Book Description
This anthology provides comprehensive coverage of the major contributions of analytic philosophy to aesthetics and the philosophy of art, from the earliest beginnings in the 1950s to the present time. The volume presents the classics of this tradition, and in so doing displays the very foundations of modern debates. Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art also features a selection of key papers from subsequent contributors that illustrate how the debates developed and how issues arose as analytic philosophers increasingly turned their attention to this area. The volume is a comprehensive guide for students and researchers in aesthetics and philosophy of art, conveniently making available all those papers most often cited. The papers are grouped into sections, ordered chronologically, and covering theoretical topics - identifying art, ontology, aesthetic properties, intention and interpretation, values of art, fictionality - as well as particular art forms, including pictorial art, literature, music, and the popular arts. A final section looks at the aesthetics of nature.

Book Description
With a pregnant girlfriend, a demanding mistress, and an institutionalized mother to care for, 19-year-old Parker Robbins can barely make ends meet. So when the small time crook finds mystical apparel that grants him strange powers, he decides to forgo organized crime for the more prestigious and financially rewarding world of costumed villainy.
Customer Reviews:
Should be a series.......2006-07-07
I thought this was well drawn, had a great story, great writing, and overall everything came together realy well on this book. I could see Vaughan bringing even more depth to these characters if it was a longer series. Garth Ennis made Hitman a great (sometimes just good) series, and there's no reason why Vaughan couldn't do it here. If I had to make a choice though, I'd rather he keep putting out Deus Ex Machina over this.
Not your ordinary superhero comic, or maybe super villain in this case........2006-01-03
Vaughan and Hotz have done a great job here bringing us yet another great MAX title. This is a more realistic comic, without all the superhero speeches, and all of that, this isn't even about a superhero.
The story: A young highschool drop-out and small time crook by the name of Parker is struggling to put food on the table for his pregnant girlfriend, and to pay for his mother's medical bills. So when he finds a robe that can make him invisible as long as he holds his breath, and boots that lets him fly, he pursues the life he always wanted, costumed villainy. His first big job was stealling diamonds that are being sneaked into the U.S., from there things get a little complicated. A very well written story, probably more realistic than most of the other comics out there today, I mean Parker Robbins is really just a common man, we can all relate to him. But I can't help but feel there should be a sequel to this book, there are so many things that are left unanswered, oh well.
The kind of art by Kyle Hotz is not usually what I like, it's kind of cartoony and just doesn't really work to me. But for this storyline, I think it works really well, which really surprised me.
This is a great comic, different from many mainstream comics out there, a great alternative. A must have if you really enjoy the MAX line of comics like Alias, Punisher, or Supreme Power.
Common man living in the Marvel Universe.......2005-04-25
There may have never been a more realistically amusing attempt at writing the common man living in the Marvel Universe. Nor has this comic company ever succeeded more in an attempt at attracting an adult audience. I'm not typically a fan of this universe, but the Hood is a character that has changed my mind over Marvel's lack of ability to write an intriguing tale without rehashing the same-ole, same-ole.
"With great power...comes great opportunity".......2004-03-17
The Hood: Blood from Stones collects the six issue mini-series by Brian K. Vaughn (Y: The Last Man) and artist Kyle Hotz (Incredible Hulk). The Hood tells the story of Parker Robbins; a low life street thug who cheats on his pregnant girlfriend, lies to his institutionalized mother, and struggles to make any cash whatsoever. One night, Parker comes across a mysterious red cloak and a pair of boots which allow him to turn invisible when he holds his breath and walk on the air. Instead of using these newfound superpowers for the greater good, he turns to the life of a costumed super villian, and is soon wanted by the police and a ruthless crimelord who has employed three lower tier villians in Constrictor, Jack 'O Lantern, and Shocker to terminate The Hood. Vaughn's imaginitive writing keeps what could have been an otherwise dismal story pumping with action and quirky dialogue, while Hotz' art greatly carries the story along. I love Marvel's line of MAX comics, but there is something about The Hood that gives me the feeling that Vaughn was a bit restricted with his storytelling. Maybe it's just me, but as good as The Hood is, it just feels like there is something missing. That aside though, The Hood is one of the best MAX titles, and is definitely worth picking up.
Different, but Good........2003-12-23
There is no hero here. Just a low life punk who suddenly gains superpowers. There is humor, drama, nice art, and an entertaning story. Not for kids.

Book Description
Fifteen years ago, Robert Fulghum published a simple credo—a credo that became the phenomenal #1 New York Times bestseller All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. Now, seven million copies later, Fulghum returns to the book that was embraced around the world. He has written a new preface and twenty-five essays, which add even more potency to a common, though no less relevant, piece of wisdom: that the most basic aspects of life bear its most important opportunities.
Here Fulghum engages us with musings on life, death, love, pain, joy, sorrow, and the best chicken-fried steak in the continental U.S.A. The little seed in the Styrofoam cup offers a reminder about our own mortality and the delicate nature of life . . . a spider who catches (and loses) a full-grown woman in its web one fine morning teaches us about surviving catastrophe . . . the love story of Jean-Francois Pilatre and his hot air balloon reminds us to be brave and unafraid to “fly” . . . life lessons hidden in the laundry pile . . . magical qualities found in a box of crayons . . . hide-and-seek vs. sardines—and how these games relate to the nature of God. All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten is brimming with the very stuff of life and the significance found in the smallest details.
In the years that have passed since the first publication of this book that touched so many with its simple, profound wisdom, Robert Fulghum has had some time to ponder, to reevaluate, and to reconsider. And here are those fresh thoughts on classic topics, right alongside the wonderful new essays.
Perhaps in today’s chaotic, more challenging world, these essays on life will resonate even deeper—as readers discover how universal insights can be found in ordinary events.

Customer Reviews:
simple truths.......2007-08-26
Fulghum is an honest and simple portrayer of the human condition. As a teacher, his insights are really useful. A new book, Tales of the Dolly Llama, gives an account of teaching that is just as funny and touching, but with greater analysis of the school system that so dictates our lives. I heartily recommend both.
The title says it all.......2007-08-20
This is a wonderful little easy-to-read book that covers the basic philosophy of day-to-day life from a simple, everyman inner-child standpoint. The author muses freely about making time to play, how to keep one's sense of wonder, how to share with others, cleaning up after oneself, how to take responsibility for all the little things in life, how to earn and give trust, how to be a good friend, etc. It's a very emotionally refreshing book, and I'm long overdue for a re-read ... especially having lost both of my parents in recent years.
One of life's big hurdles is maintaining one's sense of fun & wonder, despite the inevitable ravages of time, and the jaundiced hindsight of experience. Books like this offer a precious opportunity to rejuvenate one's spirit, and sense of fun and adventure.
Such opportunities become more and more precious, as time goes by, so always remember to lean out wide and try to seize them whenever they present themselves ... as you ride the great carousel of life.
a book of true inspiration.......2007-07-08
This had to be my favorite book for so many years. i had to convince myself to put it down or the pages would wear thin.
All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.......2007-05-12
Great book! I enjoyed reading it very much! Would reccomend this book for all!
A masterpiece.......2007-03-14
Wonderfully funny, honest look at the world. I read this book years ago but still still return to the books simple wisdom, especially as I grow older. If I could only own one Robert Fulghum book THIS would be it.

One of my all-time favorite books..........2004-07-08
ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN
by Robert Fulghum is a collection of essays that reflect the author's thoughts on life, death and a whole lot of other subjects in-between.
So when I saw the 15th Anniversary Edition I naturally had to get hold of and then devour it . . . and am glad I did . . . it's GREAT!
It is also quite different . . . or as the subtitle indicates, it is "reconsidered, revised, and expanded with 25 new essays."
I liked all the new entries, but also got a kick out of revisiting the old ones . . . it was like being with friends I haven't seen before.
Fulghum is that kind of author . . . once you read him, you'll
want to get everything else he has written: IT WAS ON FIRE
WHEN I LAY DOWN ON IT, UH-OH and MAYBE (MAYBE
NOT) . . . you won't be disappointed in any of these, nor with
his latest work either.
There were several memorable passages in the 15th Edition that
I had not come across before; among them:
* "And so then what happened?"
An urgent question out of the bedtime darkness, asked by my children, when they and I were young. Just when I thought I had slam-dunked a story-ending-just when I was certain the children were safely in the arms of the sandman--a small, sleepy voice would plead, "So, then what happened?" And no matter what I replied, the plea went on, "Please, please, Daddy--tell the rest of the story."
In cranky desperation, I would resort to apocalypse: "Suddenly a
comet hit the earth and blew everything to pieces."
Silence. "What happened to the pieces?"
"It doesn't matter. Everybody died a horrible death, especially
all the little children who were not asleep." I also tried, "The father sold all the children who would not go to sleep to a passing gypsy who ground them into sausage meat. The first children to be ground up were those who would not stop asking questions."
Go ahead, shame me. But it worked. Most of the time. On reflection, I suspect such gory endings were what they really liked most. Perhaps it was a scheme to see just how far I would go--to see how crazed their father really was.
Now I am dealing with grandchildren who have the same restless
minds. I am wilier now than I used to be. To the inevitable request for more, I reply, "Only your father knows the rest of the story. Ask him to finish it when you get home."
* Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret
weapon. A happiness weapon. A Beauty Bomb. And every time a
crisis developed, we would launch one first--before we tried
anything else. It would explode high in the air--explode softly--and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth--boxes of Crayolas. And we shouldn't go cheap either--not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the word with imagination instead
of death. A child who touched one wouldn't have his hand blown off.
* I recall an old Sufi story of a good man who was granted one
wish by God. The man said he would like to go about doing good
without knowing about it. God granted his wish. And then God
decided that it was such a good idea, he would grant that wish to
all human beings.
And so it has been to this day.

Ideal expansion for any horror campaign.......2000-05-02
The best sourcebook every written for lycanthropes. Van Richten's Guide to Werebeasts makes these creature truly spring into horrific life, with exclusive details on new shapeshifting forms, their desires, their disease, tracking, hunting, madness, and at last, the one true cure that can eradicate lycanthropy forever... a classic of the Hallow World. :)
Useful.......1999-06-25
Werebeasts seem to be one of the most common creatures in Ravenloft, no matter who the DM is. Oh well. This will give a bit of a different edge to werebeasts in Ravenloft. Much more useful and dynamic than Van Richten's Guide to the Lich.

Schaum's Outline of Macroeconomics
ASIN: 0073137839 |
Book Description
Brad Schiller's text, The Macroeconomy Today, 10/e, is noted for three great strengths: readability, policy orientation, and pedagogy. His accessible writing style engages students and brings some of the excitement of domestic and global economic news into the classroom. Schiller emphasizes how policymakers must choose between government intervention and market reliance to resolve the core issues of what, how, and for whom to produce. This strategic choice is highlighted throughout the full range of micro, macro, and international issues. Every chapter ends with a policy issue that emphasizes the markets vs. government dilemma. And Schiller packs his chapters with the facts of economic life—real stories and applications, not fables. This is a book that teaches economics in a relevant context with careful pedagogy. It is also the only principles text that presents all macro theory in the single consistent context of the AS/AD framework. Schiller 10e is for students motivated by real-world policy issues who want to become economically literate. This is a book students actually READ. Schiller is also known for its cutting-edge and current coverage of today’s issues.
Customer Reviews:
Terrible Quality.......2007-03-06
I've just started to try and read this book as part of my MBA, however the book is of terrible production quality. The pages are all out of order, and some are falling out as I turn over the pages. If you have this book mandated as part of a course as I did, you'll just have to live with it, otherwise choose another book that you don't have to hop around in just to get the pages in order.
Great place to order books online!.......2007-02-28
I received my book very quickly and it was in great condition.
Not much glue.......2006-07-22
Although the concepts are presented in a fairly understandable way, they are not tied together well for someone new to macroeconomics. Particularly annoying are the missing variable definitions for formulas. With Barron's as a supplement, it makes more sense.
Macroeconomy Today.......2000-04-14
This textbook is quite a comprehensive of introductory macroeconomics. Great graphs, well-explained, carefully thought out. The one downside is that it is quite idealistic, as one would expect of a neo-classical economist. The author does not recognize flaws in the theories nor does he acknowledge that the real world is not so cut-and-dry and ordered as we would be led to believe. However, as stated before, this is a wonderful introductory text for anyone who wants to understand the economy today.
