Customer Reviews:
very helpful.......2003-09-04
I bought this book in 1998 and it was very helpful, it breaks the different types of adult movies down and puts them in catagories. Like man & woman, woman & woman, s&m, etc. It also gives a short summary of each movie. Also where you can find the movies reviewed in the book. I was hoping that they had updated this book in the last six years.
A Classic.......2001-10-14
I refer to this book alot as I scope out internet auctions. This book is really a sleeper -- really excellent. It's just a superb guide through the dark forest of adult videos. In fact, I can't think of a better book on the subject and I've seen quite a few. If you're really interested in the significant films of the genre, then this is the book to get. The authors are very objective and very knowledgable. They've interviewed important actors and directors. If they review a movie positively, then it's a great compliment to it and you should get it. I highly recommend this book and appreciate it alot.
Comprehensive.......2001-04-06
I first ordered this after sniffing around various adult stores and nearly always coming out disappointed. This book is quite helpful if you don't quite know what you want, making it a true guide.
The side panels and the reviews themselves are quite informative and helpful, making the selection process that much easier.

Book Description
Daniel Quinn strikes again with this full-color, illustrated novel. What's going to happen when the universe comes to the end of its string? Like a cosmic yo-yo, it's going to start traveling back UP the string, to its beginningand every life that has ever been lived will be lived again: in reverse. The strangest adventure to be found in this backward-running universe is that of Adam Taylor, whose epic quest through time cannot end until he finds his way into the womb that gave birth to us all.
Customer Reviews:
What a mental release.......2006-03-09
This is a book that really takes your mind and reprograms it in a more pleasant way. Just when you feel your starting to "get things" and the answers are of grim feelings a book like this comes along and raises your sprints and gives hope. It makes me wonder were we always this dissatisfied with life or do we loose happiness the further we get from our real life source "nature". A very interesting ride in the mind of a true imaginative genius.
Also makes you really wonder what are you doing today that may evolve into something else on a much larger scale in the right or wrong direction.....
Write your phone number in the front and pass it around........2005-09-29
Daniel Quinn has done it again. This time his ideas and philosophies are conveyed in an illustrated format. My only complaint, and this is an extremely tiny complaint, is that I am not a huge fan of the illustrations. Do not get me wrong, they illustrations are nice and do a wonderful job of telling the story, I just think they could be more serious. No matter, please do not let that comment sway you in any way.
There are a lot of important messages in this story. There are many times when you can feel a little bit of Ishmael coming through. The book is short and it only took me around an hour to read. So instead of talking about the book, I'm going to talk about the impact it had on the people around me.
I worked in a Residence Hall this past summer supervising a staff of Conference Assistants and Desk Assistants. I pulled this book out after moving again and was reading it. I gave it to a fellow that I had become friends with and told him to read it. He did. He was blown away. Then what did he do? He left it at the desk and told the person who relieved him to read it. That person did, and the next person, and countless other people who worked in the Residence Hall. Pretty soon there were people coming up to me asking who had "that book about growing young."
I also loaned this book to a guy I worked with shortly after it came out in 2001. This book is one of those that I don't mind loaning out and never getting back. As long as it keeps getting passed around. Anyway, luckily I had written my phone number in the front cover because I just got this book back about six months ago (it is now year 2005).
I have no idea how many people have read this illustrated novel nor do I care. Write your name and phone number in the front of this book and start passing it around. Eventually it will end up getting back to you someday. Reading it again will bring you just as much joy and thoughtful time as the first time.
One of the most memorable moments is when the main character says something along the lines of: "Then we stopped using guns because we felt more satisfied and rewarded hunting with our bare hands."
The Man Who _Never_ Grew Young..........2003-07-12
...
...is the name of an sf short story from 1947 by Fritz Leiber. The premise and some of the details are so close to what is in Quinn's book, that it amazes me to see no comments comparing them, especially in the "editorial" reviews. I would call it plagiarism, conscious or unconcious, but I don't know if Daniel Quinn ever read or heard of the story. It seems just as likely that he never read it, because a concious plagiarist would have changed MORE of it! Sorry to say, the Leiber version's ending and philosophy are more thought-provoking than Quinn's.
It is a great story, and not rare or hard to find. Here are some or all of the places it was published:
Night's Black Agents, Arkham, 1947, 1961,1978
The Dark Side, ed. Damon Knight, Doubleday, 1965
The Best of Fritz Leiber, Nelson Doubleday, 1974, 1997
Beyond Reality, ed. Terry Carr, Elsvier/Nelson, 1979
The Arbor House Treasury of Modern Science Fiction, ed. Robert Silverberg & Martin H. Greenberg, Arbor House, 1980
Wow, a little bizarre but pretty cool!.......2003-05-14
This is a very unusual story to come across in a comic book, though the plot itself has of course been done before, especially in a sci-fi book.
This story is all about a man who lives in the world where things go "backwards" all the way from the modern times to the untamed prehistory, yet people seem to take it as the normal way. In fact, those characters have NEVER ever heard of "death", especially since all babies go back into their mother's wombs at the "end" of their lives. (Isn't that a romantic notion?)
The man is the "odd" one out, since he doesn't have a mother anywhere to return to her womb. So he goes on a guest that lasts many thousands of years before he finally finds the "answer". And he encounters many interesting people along the way, like women "without" husbands, wise old men who pass along wisdom, and families that come and go. Very nice artwork with more than a touch of realism in it - no muscular superheroes or beautiful women, sorry.
Good Quinn Lite.......2003-02-01
This a a great quick read--a good, well-illustrated story that showcases some of Quinn's critique of modern industrial civilization along the way. Not brimming with new ideas like Story of B or Ishmael, but worth reading nonetheless.

Book Description
Move over Miss Lonelyhearts . . . Steven R. Schirripa, author of the runaway bestseller A Goomba’s Guide to Life, is back with more life lessons from the neighborhood. Recalling stories of his own colorful journey from the streets of Bensonhurst to the bright lights of Las Vegas and stardom as Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri in the HBO hit series The Sopranos, Schirripa observes the finer points of amore in all its forms—love for his mother and her Sunday sauce, his wife and kids, his friends, his goomar on the side, even for his car (and he better not catch you eating in it, if you know what’s good for you). Alternately touching, telling, and laugh-out-loud funny, The Goomba’s Book of Love proves that no one loves as fiercely (or as frequently) as a goomba.
Customer Reviews:
The best compliment I can think of........2004-04-03
I really enjoyed this book. It was a few good laughs over a few good dumps. What else can a Goomba ask from a book sittin' on the back of the cammode.
LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING?????.......2004-01-29
Well known to countless fans of television's The Sopranos as Bobby "Bacala" Baccilieri, Steven Schirripa turned to the world of books and penned "A Goomba's Guide To Life," a top seller not only for Sopranos aficionados but others who enjoy smiles mixed with neighborhood sagacity.
Now, Mr. Schirripa follows with "The Goomba's Book Of Love," read by the only voice to share this wisdom - Mr. Schirripa himself.
Love in the goomba lexicon refers not only to the attraction between male and female but his undying love for his mother and her pasta sauce, deeply felt affection for his children, and his car (he cautions that no one better be caught eating in it).
The goomba, it seems, is a veritable wellspring of love - for his neighborhood, his friends, his extended family and, of course, broads. The criteria for a real goomba broad? "She'd go to the chair for me."
For the uninitiated, the dictionary defines a goomba, also "goombah" as the senior member of a criminal gang. Also, for the uninitiated, "The Goomba's Book Of Love" is pure entertainment. If you want sex tips, consult Dr. Ruth. If you want laughter and good humor, listen to this.
- Gail Cooke
Another Guide to The Goomba World.......2003-11-30
Even better than the original, "Book of Love," digs deeper into the true passions of the goomba--from food to cars to oh, woman, of course.
What are some goomba characteristics?
It's already pre-determined that the real old-school East Coast Italian-Americans must drive Caddies, wear Fila jumpsuits and sport gold chains. But these "traditions" aren't just done for the hell of it. There are reasons why the guido does certain things...
CLOTHES: Most Italian goombas wear colorful Fila track outfits as casualwear because having an easily recognizable matching uniform is essential. Also, because most guidos are a little on the heavy side, the Filas flatter the body shape and are comfortable all year round. Of course Fila is an Italian company so that is always the best brand. Guido dress-up attire is usually a dark matching suit (with either a tropical print silk shirt underneath or a dark shirt with brightly patterned tie for real formal events). The guido likes to stand out and always lives by the credo that tasteful gaudiness is classy.
ACCESSORIES: Most Italian goombas wear tons of gold because it makes them look like they have some money, even if that's not the case. The money that the guido does carry is in a roll with a rubber band around it with the big fazool (a ten spot) on the outside. Bracelets, watches, pinkie rings, and of course, necklaces are always worn. The religious emblems (Christ on the cross, Holy Mary) are usually around the neck because most guidos are Catholic.
CARS: Most Italian goombas drive old Caddies and Lincolns because they are big, powerful and roomy. Other guidos may pick a Monte Carlo or Mustang or another flashy sportscar but traditionalists will go for the Caddie. Most Mafiosos drive Caddies because they are flashy and represent luxury to the fullest but regular guidos who can't afford brand new ones go for second-handers and spice them up with tints and sound systems. And of course, the red horn is hung from the rearview mirror and the Italian flag decal is on the back bumper. I don't know about guidos outside of my neighborhood, but Jersey guidos never drive Japanese cars, only American cars.
FOOD: Most Italian goombas eat Italian-American food, not Olive Garden garbage but food from old-fashioned local spots run by fellow guidos or better yet, from Mama or Nonna. Meatballs, macaroni, eggplant, pizza, gabagol, and other old-fashioned goodness. Why? Because it tastes the best of course, and is the most filling. The guido will eat other non-Italian foods at times (it must be satisfying) but none of this modern new wave kind of eclectic cuisine is eaten, and an Italian meatball is always chosen before an American meatloaf if the option is given.
ENTERTAINMENT: Most Italian goombas like Joe Pesci and other Italian actors because they are the most relatable. These guys come from the neighborhood and talk, act and look like the local guido. That's why every Italian guido from Jersey thinks they can be on "The Sopranos." The guido has a fascination with the Mafia because of the similarities but also adores non-gangster portrayals as well, like Rocky Balboa and the all-time King Guido: Tony Manero of "Saturday Night Fever." Music is a huge part of the guido lifestyle. Anything Italian from Sinatra to Bon Jovi to Angelo Venuto are listened to. The music is usually light and danceable, none of those deep Celine Dion ballads or country tunes.
ATTITUDE: Most Italian goombas are from the East Coast so they have that "numero uno" attitude. Guidos haggle when buying something to get the best prices, are outgoing, do everything to the extreme, and show pride in all of their interests-the main one being the Italian-American heritage. Guidos never back down from fights and always go after what they want, whether it's a job or a girl or a calzone. Guidos talk with their own slang, use hand gestures, and strut. The guido's life is a constant hustle, book smarts are not always top priority when Italian charm and quick wit can be used instead. And when all else fails, God and mama are always there. The guido loves all the guido stereotypes, plays them up and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks.
HOME LIFE: Most Italian goombas are married to a guidette who can cook and look hot doing it. Guidettes can give their men agita and turn them on at the same time. The guido-guidette relationship is always emotional, and the harder the fights are the harder the you-know-what is. The bedroom has a Crucifix above the bed, the sofa is protected with plastic and the house must have a leather recliner, a crystal chandelier, a white and red checkered tablecloth, a mini Tower of Pisa statue in the backyard, and an Italian flag on the front lawn. The kids are junior guidos and guidettes of course, and will grow up to be adult guidos and guidettes. There are always cousins and other relatives dropping by. The closeness of family and friends is always evident and the high level of drama exists because the guido is emotional and passionate about everything.

LONG LIVE CAVELL.......2000-12-14
The brilliant mind of cinema and philosophy is made new again in this book by two writers passionate (and informed) about their subject. Where else can you read of American philosophy's presence in the films of Charlie Chaplin and Frank Capra? Interdisciplinary studies at its best.

Enter the wonderful world of the Dragon Empire.......2007-05-27
There's a lot of meat to the Guide to the Galaxy. Reading through it left me wanting to jump right into a new campaign. Together with the Starfarer's Handbook a GM will have most of what they need at their fingertips.
Pay No Attention to that Man Behind the Curtain!.......2002-12-28
In any game being the GM/DM/Referee is like being the Wizard of Oz before Dorothy came to visit. The Galaxy Guide is for the Game Master running a Dragonstar campaign. Like any good storyteller you need to know the history and working knowledge of what lurks beneath surface and behind closed doors of a given setting to give it true life. Described within is the history of the setting, major players for good or for ill as well as some mechanics necessary for the genre that traditional sword and sorcery never need worry its pretty little head about. There are also toys to dole out to the players in the form of spellware (the Dragonstar equivalent of cyberwear)and new monsters to possibly spring on your unsuspecting players. Enchanted armor and equipment(including guns) are discussed here as well. It is an excellant book, but it can be a bit bewildering if you have not read its companion the Starfarer's Handbook first. If you have the basic trilogy(Player Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide and Monster Manual) from Wizards of the Coast, these two offer a bit of fine tuning as well as new option. Keep in mind that Dragonstar fully works within the framework of the Dungeons and Dragons game just that it presents the game within the fabric of a science fiction universe with slight tang of Fantasy for a bit of extra taste and flavor. If you have the money to get all three, buying this with the aforementioned Starfarer's Handbook and Imperial Supply for the same campaign setting will not only give you a lot of enjoyable reading to do but a very complete science fantasy setting that you can use to transport yourself and your players on a magical, mystical journey into uncharted territory where the only limit are the collective imaginations of your group.

Book Description
Unprecedented shifts in the age distribution and diversity of the global labour pool are underway
Within the decade, as the massive boomer generation begins to retire and fewer skilled workers are available to replace them, companies in industrialized markets will face a labour shortage and brain drain of dramatic proportions.
Ken Dychtwald, Tamara Erickson, and Robert Morison argue that companies ignore these shifts at great peril. Survival will depend on redefining retirement and transforming management and human resource practices to attract, accommodate, and retain workers of all ages and backgrounds.
Based on decades of groundbreaking research and study, the authors present innovative and actionable management techniques for leveraging the knowledge of mature workers, reengaging disillusioned mid-career workers, and attracting and retaining talented younger workers.
This timely book will help organizations sustain their competitive edge in tomorrow’s inevitably tighter labour markets.

"Where did all the good ones go?".......2006-09-27
In essence, the "workforce crisis" to which the title refers results from an insufficiency of talented, skilled, and principled people at a time when competition for them has never been more intense than it is now...and "the coming shortage" of them is certain to increase in months and years ahead. In the first two Parts of this volume, the authors explain how this "brain drain" threatens organizational performance, why a new workforce stategy is needed, why older workers (ages 55+) comprise "the biggest untapped resource" and how to optimize their services, why and how the "boomer bottleneck" disrupts productibity, how to rekindle employees' passion for work, why the best of the younger workers (ages 18-34) keep leaving, and how to connect with them. Then in Parts III and IV, they explain why flexible work arrangements are needed and how to make them work, why continuous education matters and how to make it pay off, why "variety will rule" and how to leverage it, how to evaluate the talent and skills of the current workforce and anticipate their needs, and finally, how to formulate and then implement strategies by which to avert a workforce crisis.
Readers will greatly appreciate the authors' no-nonsense approach to real-world issues. Their observations are based on extensive research and their recommendations are both practical and do-able. The provision of various case studies is a substantial value-added benefit. It is instructive to see how various organizations have either avoided or satisrfactorily resolved the "workforce crisis" each faced. There are two other books which should be read in combinbation with this one: Leigh Branham`s The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave: How to Recognize the Subtle Signs and Act Before It's Too Late and Bradford Smart's Topgrading: How Leading Companies Win by Hiring, Coaching, and Keeping the Best People (Revised and Updated Edition).
Find a Parade, Jump in Front, Declare Yourself Grand Marshall.......2006-09-12
The "research" that the authors quote is their own but their "findings" are nothing more than information that has been reported ad nauseum in journal articles and news stories over the past several years. The book could have been condensed drastically without losing any of the points. The last 25% of the book is a "discussion guide" that may be more valuable than the guts of the book.
Borrow this one from the library.
Thought provoking book........2006-08-04
Good analysis of the problem and some suggestions for solutions. Employers are going to have to use older workers or go without in the near term. Raises some real questions about the importance of "guest workers" to the continued success of our economy. The labor has to come from somewhere.
An inspirational vision for any manager looking at the long-term picture.......2006-06-20
WORKFORCE CRISIS: HOW TO BEAT THE COMING SHORTAGE OF SKILLS AND TALENT predicts a crisis in the workplace as the huge boomer generation requires and leaves less experience holding the bag in the workplace. Companies must rethink their workforce management and attract and retain works of all ages, as a result. Decades of research have culled these strategies for reorganization in WORKFORCE CRISIS, which will prove an inspirational vision for any manager looking at the long-term picture.
