A Chagall book that is not heavy!.......2000-07-13

I own the French version of this book and I must say that it is exceptional. It's like a small encyclopeadia about Chagall, but in a convenient and light format (although there are A LOT of informations in the book)! I'm currently reading it and it offers an excellent trip into the world of Chagall: not only his art, but also his life. Some of the pictures (like the ones on the first pages, showing Chagall while he is painting) are stunning. If one word could describe this book, it would be: "complete". I recommend it to those who do not want to pay millions of bucks to have a book on Chagall, but who want to have a good view of who is the best artist that existed... and who want to be able to read the book in the bus, for example!

Not as excited.......2006-12-30

I was really looking forward to getting this book, but was disappointed. As a Rev War Reenactor I was looking for some really good insights. However, I was disappointed to find that the book was originally printed in 1940 and that many of the resources were previously published books (so read pre-1940!) Current research is much more advanced than it was in 1940! (For those of you who aare like me - remember the English Bodice!)

Dates were very general and any portraits or art were undated.

If you are a generalist, than this book mught be OK, but if you are someone looking to interpret a time period accurately, I'd recommend Linda Baumgarten, Sharon Burnston or Aileen Ribiero instead.

As for me, I'm returning the book!

It's good for descriptions and definitions.......2007-05-27

I don't regret getting this book, but I have seen better. The illustrations are a good source but not an ideal one. I did notice, and maybe it's just me, that the drawings were not proportional and a little too cartoony (it's definately a personal preference). However the garments themselves are nicely drawn and will be helpful to me in the future.

a book with just illustrations and some helpful notes on the garment details. it doesn't dig deep into history and all that, but visually, it's awsome...it's essential for your studies...

A Very Good Reference Book.........2001-06-04

I just recommended this book to a friend who wanted depictions of clothes from 1650-1700. It really is a very good timeline of fashion. Also,the drawings are very colorful and full of detail. A worthwhile investment for anyone who's interested in costuming or European history.

This is an absolutely pathetic book. The illustrator/author merely copied famous works of art from the Reniassance period. Wait, I shouldn't say copied: He made weak attempts at the imitation of these masterpieces. Could he not come up with something slightly original in text and drawing? Please save your money.

This book has really nice pictures at all but after learning so much about the history of costume at university I was really unsatisfied with this book. It could have been more structure in it, too.

The greatest work from Lynn Johnston in the past!.......2000-06-22

Long before all those dramatic, tear-jerking, life-changing sequences like the deaths of the family dog and Grandma, Michael's friend coming right out of the closet, and the arrival of the preciousy, self-centered little April, our proud young mom-cartoonist very bravely and candidly spinned out much simpler but such funny, wacky domestic adventures in the endlessly chaotic household so full of sticky fingers, snotty faces, big messes, dog pawprints, spilled crumbs on the sofa cushions, puddles on the kitchen floor, all that fussing and screaming, anything that just plain drove the poor long-suffering momma straight up the wall! Here, instead of all those sentimental, long-winded speeches about each and every of her fictional character, the author simply includes a brief introduction about herself, her family, and her blooming talents as well as the very beginning of her famous strip featuring a typical Canadian family. Then we are treated to the earliest Sunday funnies in full color as well as each memorable sequences all about sibling rivalry, Connie's feverish struggles to keep two families together, going off to the summer camp, Michael's very first romance, Elizabeth's insecurities, the big trip to the farm, Michael's greatest babysitting caper, and Elly's very first perm! A very pleasant trip that will send you giggling down the memory lane!

Yes, this is a must have. Written by S&P auther, it is the definitive guide, no question should be asked. cause they are credit king.

Many details on how to measure risk, quantitative methods in detail. Ideas and industry practice all in great detail. I could imagine some quants will use it as a cook book for their project.

overall, well written for easy read. both good for a glance at credit risk and for in depth learning of industry standard.

Most Appropriate for Basel II.......2005-09-08

If you are Banker/Banking Consultant then this book is the closest you will get to understanding Credit Risk from a Basel II perspective. Its clear & lucid style helped me understand the gamut of techniques used in Credit Risk Measurement. Unfortunately the Book does not get into the details of bulinding models so if your looking for a model building cookbook, look elsewhere.
