GOOD GRIEF!
Life isn’t always easy for Charlie Brown. Between that pesky kite-eating tree, a complete lack of valentines in the mailbox, and his troubles on the pitcher’s mound it can be downright disheartening! Fortunately he has Snoopy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, and the Peanuts gang to make the big world seem a lot friendlier. Now, for the first time in book form and in full-color, It’s a Big World, Charlie Brown presents a brand-new collection of your old favorites. It’s just like peanuts–nobody can read just one!

Good Grief!.......2002-03-26
All of Sparky's strip from 1997 in full color! Plus 2 from 1996 as an added bonus.
Included are strips where: Rerun gets suspended from kindergarden *twice!, the Literary Ace geting help from Lucy, a look at Valley Forge and WWI, Olaf and Andy's quest for Spike, Charlie Brown getting a love leter...
Let's face it: Charles 'Sparky' Schulz was great. This book belongs in any fan's collection.
Another gem from Sparky.......2001-10-29
One the best books with Charlie Brown's failures, Rerun's attempts at getting away from school, Snoopy's encounters with General Washington at Valley Forge. Its a good collectible. One of the best peanuts books. Although its like Peanuts 2000, only 2 or 3 strips are the same.
Book Description
A humorous and inspiring collection that celebrates little-known people who led remarkable lives.
You won't find them in history books. They're people you've probably never heard of, but they made the world a more interesting place while they were in it. Here is just a sampling of the colorful obituaries you'll find in Cool Dead People:
Insurance agent and Montana conservationist Art Aylesworth, best known as the "Bluebird Man" for his work with the mountain and western bluebirds, who built and gave away more than 35,000 bluebird nest boxes. His efforts saved these two birds from extinction.
Mel Fisher, who spent years diving for sunken treasure, only to hit paydirt at the age of 62: Off Key West he uncovered a $400 million cache of silver bars, gold, emerald, diamonds, and pearls which had been lost on a Spanish ship in 1622.
The literary agent, Connie Clausen, who began her career as an elephant rider in the circus.
From the doctor who healed a town to a typewriter repairman to the stars ... from the countess who traded her title for a waitress tray, to the cleaning lady who left $150,000 to a local college, this whimsical and moving collection has the last word on over 100 people who could be, well, any one of us.

IF YOU'RE NOT AN OBIT BUFF--.......2007-05-21
If you're not an obit fancier, this book might be of some interest. Very short and simply written, it could make useful browsing in a doctor's or dentist's waiting room, or on the nightstand in your guest room. It might also be a small gift for certain middle school readers, who may well have been the intended audience, judging from this line in the introduction: "The next time you meet an elderly lady or gentleman. . . look in their eyes for the cool person who is still very much alive."
(Who assumes we aren't, by the way?)
If you ARE an obituary buff (and there seem to be a great host of us now), this book is probably not for you. First of all, it's not a collection of original obituaries at all, but brief thumbnail sketches rewritten, one would assume, from previously published obituaries. (The book contains no attributions or dates of publication, no newspaper sources, etc.) These are very general summaries, whereas what most readers relish are the specific details of a well-written obit, the telling particulars that illuminate, perhaps in the flash of a single phrase, the life being celebrated.
Speaking of illumination, the author, Jane O'Boyle, unintentionally reveals an interesting personal quirk of her own. In at least four different obits, she calls our attention to the short height of her subject, though in no case is this fact relevant:
We are told, for example, that Stuey Ungar, a poker champ, is "only five foot five."
That "Abramowicz, who was only five feet tall, was the head librarian. . . . "
Informed that " 'I didn't like to stay home,' said Mrs. B. . . , who was only four feet ten inches tall."
Assured that "although only four feet tall, del Rey was a giant among New York City book publishers. . . . "
Some might make a case here of "heightism," especially since the shortness in each case has nothing to do with the achievement. Others would see patronizing condescension. The rest of us would most likely just consider it, oh, uncool.
For true obituaries that make delightful reading (surely some of the more upbeat reading available today), here are a few suggestions:(1) The Daily Telegraph's Book of Obituaries: A Celebration of Eccentric Lives, edited by Hugh Massingberd; (2)The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries, by Marilyn Johnson;(3)If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name: Notes from Small-Town Alaska, by Heather Lende. And for a truly outstanding book, not a collection of obits but a rich memoir by a poet who happens to be an undertaker, read The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade, by Thomas Lynch.
Fun, short book.......2005-09-26
This book is simple fun. It's a quick read, but it's full of people who have led full, interesting lives. Many of the obituaries are examples of people overcoming circumstance or just doing amazing things. Some were sad, some sweet, but all are intriguing and made me wonder what I will have accomplished at the end of my life.
More than cool--simply wonderful!!.......2001-05-07
This book is at times touching, funny, creepy, and all the time just plain wonderful. It's so nice to read about real people who lead extraordinary lives that few of us ever know about. I've read this author's other books--and liked them a lot!!--but this one is a nice change of pace. It really renewed my faith in the fact that each one of us really does make a difference--Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed in "It's A Wonderful Life" has been transformed into something all of us can appreciate and recognize. Thank you so very much for this gem!!!

Drugs in Pregnancy reference.......2006-12-15
Big, bountiful, beautiful book. Heavy, hard to get around, huge for transport reference guide. Quite expensive and not very portable... palm pilot version would be nice or quick, pocket reference....
my single most valuable reference book.......1999-01-20
I do locum tenens (temporary) doctoring and when I go on an assignment this is the first book to go in my suitcase. I take it to the office with me in the morning and take it home at night in case I get a question that I need it for. It is clear, concise, comprehensive and as authoritative as any text can be. If you care for or prescribe meds to pregnant or lactating women, this is a "must have".

Customer Reviews:
Feel a little ripped off.......2007-08-05
I was encouraged to read this since I've been on Fred Gleek's mailing list for a while now, but the book was like a running ad for his products and his pals' products with a little bit of wisdom thrown in. For me, it was a waste of time. I much prefer Speak and Grow Rich by Dottie and Lilly Walters.
Learn How to Produce High Revenue Events.......2007-06-06
Fred Gleeck is paid a boatload of money to present a portion of this material at seminars, and he has a mentoring program in the $20K neighborhood. In deciding to buy this book, my thought was this: an $11.00 investment to tap into a prime knowledgebase would be money well-spent. And of course, I wanted to experience other approaches to the seminar and public speaking business, and after doing a lot of research, Fred Gleeck and Robert Jolles were the names that kept coming up again and again, with rave reviews.
Our company has been running successful seminars and symposiums for almost 20 years, and I will happily confess that I learned a ton from this book; I learned a new way of looking at seminars, profitability, and how to market seminars. I wasn't sure at first how I felt about his heavy-handed revenue-driven approach to seminars; I feel that educating is also an important component in the seminar equation. I got over my first impression, opened my mind, and when I did, I began to see ways to modify Gleeck's methods to allow them to work within our seminar structure, and within my comfort zone. I'd considered adding shorter informational seminars to our program, and again, this book gave me a sense of the structure, timing, and incidentals for several types of seminar/speaking events that we are planning to implement into our program. Other reviews of this book make this point again and again. Just having a solid knowledge of your seminar material, doesn't insure your success. Having a strong seminar structure, and a tight marketing plan that has been successful for others, certainly enhances your likelihood for success.
This book explains the why, when, how-to, and where-to of producing profitable, successful seminars, speaking events, and co-hosted seminar events. There is also information on public speaking in general. Mr Gleeck is very much a bottomline guy, and a successful one, so if you want to conduct profitable, successful seminars/events/public-speaking engagements, then I recommend you read this book and integrate the material that makes sense to you. There's a lot of incredibly valuable information in this book.
The industry expert.......2006-07-08
This is just one of Mr. Gleecks tools to help you in your speaking career. He has audio programs and more books on broader and noarrower topics. Grab a few and get some good, first hand knowledge about the nuts and bolts of running a successful information-based business. Aura Mae, author of Get Some Hairapy - a hairdresser's prescrition or happiness.
Well Worth It's Weight In Gold! Definitely a Must-Have!.......2006-05-25
This is an awesome book! I got a lot out of it and, since I have so much experience in the direct response and speaking industries, it's very difficult for me to find books and other information that I don't already know.
This book offers so many things that I could immediately use to increase my bottom line, not just for my speaking business but my business in general.
If you are an aspiring speaker and can afford only one book, get this one. If you are an entrepreneur and have an entire reference library (like I do), it cannot possibly be complete without this book.
Please don't buy this book!!!!.......2006-05-17
Although the book was quite informative, the author was less that stellar in his follow up or even on making good on the "generous offer' he makes in his book (on the bottom of every page of the entire book). As a matter of fact, I sent the email requesting the "half hour teleconference", that he offers on page viii, he writes that this is was worth a minimum of $350. And I am sad to say that this was his reply:
Thanks for the feedback.
I suggest you unsubscribe. That way you will no longer get the emails.
Thanks,
Fred
