Book Description
introduction by Jeff Wall
The internationally renowned artist Dan Graham is widely acknowledged as one of the leading members of the 1960s conceptual art movement. However, his subsequent work in photography, performance, film, video, and the fusion of art and architecture, though well known in Europe and Japan, is less well known in English-speaking countries.
In Rock My Religion (MIT Press, 1993), Graham explored mainly the work of other artists. In this collection, he articulates the rationale behind his own art. The broadly accessible essays, which include his most canonical texts, are organized both thematically and chronologically. They chart his career from conceptual art for magazine pages of the 1960s, to work integrating video, television, architecture, film, and performance of the 1970s, to his pavilion sculptures of the 1980s and 1990s. The book also features an essay by Jeff Wall and interviews with Graham that address the art historical references and theoretical principles underlying his work.
Published in association with the Marian Goodman Gallery, New York.

Book Description
A woman bard? That’s unheard of in Ancient Gaul. So, when the mothers in Asterix’s town want to replace Cacofonix with Bravura, the men are horrified. But, Bravura hits the right notes musically, and she proves very valuable when Julius Caesar sends in his secret weapon: a group of female legionnaries. Caesar thinks the Gauls will be too noble to fight the women...but Bravura has no such scruples! And, even Cacofonix succeeds in coming into his own.

Hasn't aged well........2007-05-12
Albert Uderzo, Asterix and the Secret Weapon (Dargaud, 1991)
Asterix and Obelix take on their most formidable enemy yet: feminism! Bravura, a new bard, comes to the village, causing Cacofonix to leave in a huff. She soon has the women of the town standing up for themselves, which causes the men to go off and set up camp in the forest. Meanwhile, Claphamomnibus, Roman agent, is on his way to the village with a secret weapon he guarantees will defeat the Gauls. (We've heard that one before.) Asterix and Obelix to-- well, no. Bravura to the rescue! The problem with this one is that it's kind of tired. Uderzo recycled a lot of old material here, and the resolution to the problem may cause some alarm bells to go off in the heads of those sensitive to stereotypes. Not one of the series' better entries. ** ½
Ladies Learning.......2007-01-29
There's a new bard coming to the village. There's a secret weapon coming to Gaul. They have a lot in common, they'll both stir up Gaulish tradition, and one has a crush on Asterix...
"Asterix and the Secret Weapon" is Asterix #29, first published in 1991. I really liked it, though I never used to as a kid. Great dialogue, pretty pictures. It's funny seeing all the characters react to the secret weapon, to the bard Bravura and to themeselves. Worth a look for fans.
The Plot, the punch lines, and the gags all read a bit stale.......2003-01-27
An Asterix, old or new, is a must read. But, this one is a tad disappointing. The jokes and punchlines are not as funny, the plot is a bit strained... Which is disappointing indeed. You have to have read some of the older Asterix comics - Mansion of the Gods for example - to understand what I mean. If you are a die hard Asterix fan then go ahead and read/buy this one. Else go for some of the older ones.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A very silly battle of the sexes episode. Impedimenta and others get sick of the men being in charge, and a Cacofonix lesson really sets them off, and they decide to get a female bard in from Lutetia.
Most of the men end up leaving town and joining Cacofonix in the forest, amidst some really bad puns. The Romans have a plan to take advantage of 'Gaulish gallantry', by attacking with a female legion. Their problem, however, is that the town now only has women living there.

Uderzo was no Goscinny.......2005-02-15
No Asterix book is worth ONE star (sorry Elizabeth). However, this isn't anywhere near the classic Asterix standard (6 stars, at least!) , possibly some of the finest and most subtle (yes, there's loads of subtle stuff along with the obvious jokes) humour around.
Unfortunately, this book shares the problems of all the books after Rene died...Goscinny is a great illustrator...hence the two stars (and Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge are superb translators), but the jokes and the plot...ah Rene, how we all wish you were alive.
Asterix deals with a new problem.......2002-08-05
First published in French in 1991 as La Rose et Le Glaive and in English the same year.
The cohesion of the village we know so well is thrown into disarray, when a radical feminist Bard moves into the village to replace Cacofonix. This results in the men of the village moving out!
Meanwhile Julius Caesar. Has come up with his latest plan to defeat the village, a garrison of beautiful female legionnaires arrives in the local Roman camp. The Gauls cannot hit them, covered as they are by the code of Gaullish gallantry. Bravura, luckily, together with Asterix, with whom she has been at loggerheads come up with a plan to save the day.
This one deals head on with the gender debate, in a charming and fun way. Even if a lot of the humour has been recycled from previous Asterix books.
The magic is gone........2000-08-17
Let me begin by clarifying, I love Asterix books. I read them as a child, and then as an adult who could finally understand all the brilliant puns. I played with Asterix toys. The words "Ferpectly Right!" have been known to escape my lips during a night of debauchery. And I never thought I would be compelled to give one star to an Asterix book.
But this is not a good book. The premise of it excited me...feminism strikes the male-dominated world of Asterix! Certainly, as a young female reader of Asterix, the limitations with which female characters were depicted grew tiresome. A woman was either a nagging wife, or a tempting sex-pot. Enter the female bard in hot pants! I had such high expectations for this book.
But this is not a good book. Perhaps too much time has passed between this Asterix installment and its brilliant predecessors. Perhaps I can love the slapstick, cartoonish violence that charm all Asterix books, but I cannot forgive Asterix for striking a female merely because she angers him.
Beyond my feminist ideals, the jokes fell flat, the story felt contrived. It's so below par from the rest of the wonderful books. Skip this one, and remember, there comes a time when all series really should have been cancelled.
the Indominitable Gauls fight the oldest battle of all.........1999-04-11
The battle of the sexes comes to the village of our hero Asterix. When a new female bard shows up in the village, the chaos begins...Soon the men and women of the village are divided, Asterix is banished, and to top things off, Rome has cooked up a new plot to bring the village to heel(but that would be telling...). This is a classical romp of how stupid both genders can be, but can pull together when the need arises. Watch the Roman who cooks up the "Secret Weapon" get the pasting he so richly deserves in true slapstick style...

And even today, I still play many songs of both the books. The arranges are easy, but don't loose in rhythm or character of the songs, and are excellent to develop new skills in a jazzy way.

Archie? Wolf? Dragons?.......2004-12-04
Murder in Cormyr remains one of my favorite Forgotten Realms novels. For those unfamiliar with the brand, the Forgotten Realms novels take place in a world familiar to D&D gamers the world over. The novels range in quality from enjoyably good to excruciatingly bad. MURDER IN CORMYR is one of the former.
MURDER IN CORMYR is told from the first person perspective. A young man tries to steal from a "retired" War Wizard. Once caught, the youth becomes the Wizard's Boy Friday. Wizard and assistant become embroiled in an investigation which weaves fantasy and detective elements together in a pleasant way.
The authors have clearly patterned Wizard and Assistant upon Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin, the Detective Odd Couple made famous in Rex Stout's novels. While the writing does not rise to the level of great literature, it is enjoyable. The novel was either nominated for or won an Edgar award. If you're looking for an enjoyable read, this is a fun book.
Poor Mystery, Terrible Fantasy, and A Great Let Down!.......2004-06-03
Unfortunately, both Murder in Cormyr as well as Murder in Halruaa are a major disappointment indeed! Badly written, by what seems to be inexperienced people who not only to have had no previous work or any serious contact with Fantasy (not even to mention the specifics of the Forgotten Realms Campaign World), but writing books-ANY books- in general! Myself, a mystery enthusiast of Arthur Conan Doyle's and Agatha Christie's work and a Fantasy/Dungeons and Dragons "Fanatic" have no alternative, but to write this negative review in an effort to warn the potential reader of what they are in for. Both these authors should at least have read a Forgotten Realms novel before attempting to write one, and what?s more if they did not want to or did not have the ability to write this type of book, they should not even have attempt it. However, since they did, how and why were these books allowed to hit the printing press and then the stores? They discredit themselves (the authors), they discredit TSR, but most importantly they discredit the readers/fans of the Forgotten Realms, especially those who thought that combining Fantasy and Mystery would be a great idea, like myself. From the weak plot, to the bad writing, to the ridiculous choice of names for the characters, to the jokes that fall flat, to the great lack of knowledge regarding Toril, the books fail miserably!
It is very unfortunate that the Murder Series came to an end before the writing of Murder in Ravens Bluff and WotC should reconsider their decision now that years have gone by and maybe resurrect the project, but considering the poor work included in these books I can at least understand why they did so back then. In conclusion, it is with great sadness that I only give two stars to these books since almost all the Forgotten Realms novels that have been written have been more than wonderful-what with RA Salvatore, Elaine Cunningham, Ed Greenwood etc. The books could have been fantastic if the right people or the necessary care had been given during the writing of the stories. A shame really! My advice, read them only after you're done reading all the other Forgotten Realms books and you are still in need of more Toril related material; at least you'll get a slight hint/taste of Faerun.
Who Commited the "Murder in Cormyr".......2003-09-25
This is a book that combines mystery and fantasy to form a tale that will keep you glued to the book until the very last page. Jasper, slop boy and main character, gets chased by evil spirits, meets hydras, and even the vengeful ghost of a legendary bandit. Jasper becomes indebted to a wizard, and helps him figure out who beheaded the blacksmith's assistant and the king's envoy. This isn't all the book has in store though, but I shall tell you no more on this topic. I gave this book 5 stars because it was a mystery, a personal favorite of mine. Also even after all is said and done, there's still an extra surprise. I recommend this book to anyone above age twelve because this book is a bit too challenging for younger kids. Can you figure out who did it when you read the Murder in Cormyr
Aimed too high and missed.......2002-09-02
Setting up a murder mystery in a fantasy setting is asking for trouble - it could be done, but it is very difficult and Chet Williamson just didn't make the grade in "Murder in Cormyr".
The main problem with a murder mystery in a magic rich world like the Forgotten Realms is that magic opens up too many possibilities. A temporary clone spell could create the perfect alibi for any criminal. Victims can be resurrected. Culprits can teleport from practically anywhere and to practically anywhere.
Of course, the presence of magic, or technology, does not on its own exclude a murder mystery. Isaac Asimov did it in his one of his Spacer novel "The Robots of Dawn". The Realms Anthologies have some good short stories which could be termed as murder mysteries.
As Agatha Christie's Poirot once commented, a study in crime is a study of characters. An entertaining murder mystery is not marred by technology or magic making the impossible possible, but by interaction of characters.
Chet Williamson appeared to be aware of this formula. However, he fumbled rather badly in his delivery.
The narrator was one Jasper of Ghars, a slop-boy of halfling-human ancestry, apprenticed to retired Cormyrean war-wizard Benelaius after a failed attempt to raid the latter's home.
The scene was Ghars, a hardly noticable village on the Cormyrean side of the border with Sembia, soon to host the annual meeting of Grand Council of Cormyr's Merchants' Guild.
Somewhere in the story was a legendary headless ghost of a brigand leader who was supposed to guard his hidden loot in inhospitable marshlands.
It began with the discovery of the murder of an impersonator of the ghost. Then Grodoveth, King Azoun's envoy-at-large within the kingdom, was found dead.
Chet Williamson painted a colourful picture of a normally idyllic village beset by misfortunes on the eve of trying to make a name for itself hosting a merchants' conference. The characters involved were diverse from money-grubbing barkeepers to lovely daughter of the local tycoon.
Jasper found himself assisting his portly master in the investigation. Theirs was a contrast of methods, Jasper trying to emulate a fictional detective who employed deductive reasoning and logic to solve his crimes, and Benelaius apparently just sitting back and unhurriedly gathering his information mostly through others. Mystery fans should recognise the caricature of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, or rather more aptly, Arthur Hastings and Hercule Poirot.
Unfortunately, though Chet Williamson gave a lot of attention on character interaction, he failed to negate the possibilities played by magic. There were clues around to be sure, but they were not significantly crucial enough, and were open to alternative explanations.
Fortunately for Chet, his endings did tied up these loose ends, though leaving mystery fans not quite satisfied.
Murder of Cormyr.......2000-08-29
Great for the pre-teen reader. A lot too predictable. Spoon feeding of clues and plot. Read it if you have nothing better to do.

Be A Sales Superstar is fresh and new. It is not the same as Tracy's 457 page Advanced Selling Strategies. How could it be? This book is less than half that size.
This book discloses the top 21 habits of super successful salespeople. Whether n ew or experienced this book canhelp you be all that you want to be in your selling career.
A Big Little Book.......2005-12-11
This book may not be a swelling 400 pages like Tracy's Advanced Selling Strategies. At 154 pages, Be A Sales Superstar is smaller than your average book but packed with useful information like presenting, overcoming objections, educating the customer, the AIDA model and more.
This book makes a great companion to Advanced Selling Strategies and The Psychology of Selling.
Highly recommended.
