Customer Reviews:
comprehensive bliss.......2001-09-01
This book is the result of extremely thorough research by the best authors and scholars in the business. It contains masses of detailed information not previouly brought to light, and helps both serious researchers and the general reader alike due to its easy-reading style and interesting coverage. There is an excellent timeline, with superb illustrations and revelations of all those designers whose names and works had not yet been recorded. A must for all teachers of any of the areas of design in the book, such as Interior Design, Jewellery, Ceramics, Film, Textiles, Fashion, or Furniture. A superlative addition to the Design History world. I just wish I could see the accompanying exhibition.
Wow!.......2001-02-03
That about says it. If you love design, and if you love learning about women's history, as I do, you will love this book.

Pretty good for early elementary.......2003-09-23
I bought this for my son who is in grade 2. He has learned the mountain fold and the valley fold and the pleat. The results are simple, but acheivable for him. The fold lines are all indicated with colour which really helps a child figure it out for themselves.
Good introduction to origami.......2000-12-28
Same review as Pokemon Origami 1, only the characters are different.
This book has pokemon characters printed on, usually two, with a slightly different look usually with the eyes. You tear out the paper, cut and fold it. The paper is not quite square the the picture is not exact. A lot adjusting to fit the colours is required. There is a lot of cutting involved but the folding is very simple. The final shape is very simple too and not easily recognisable if there is no picture of the pokemon on it. The picture can be just a face or full and need mounting on a flat surface for it to look good since generally it cannot stand. Recommended as an introduction to origami for children who likes pokemons.
Note that generally it cannot stand as a 3D origami despite the Amazon's book description.
Pokemon Origami 2 is better than the first one!.......2000-06-22
I bought this for a friend of mine, and let me tell you, that if you love origami and pokemon, then this is the book for you... Since this book is made for younger children, almost anybody can use it! Trust me if you buy this book, you'll enjoy hours of the high quality japanese paper folding!

Customer Reviews:
Aside from Confusing Road Analogies...Great Book!.......2006-02-03
This is a great book for anyone that wants to learn the structure of writing for animated shows. It reveals the formula for creating successful stories, characters, and scripts.
The only drawback was the overuse of the road sign analogies. Don't get me wrong, they work fine to illustrate the points, but I just felt there were too many of them.
In any case, an excellent book if you're starting out your career in animation...like me:)!
Complete cartoon-writing reference guide - Amazing!.......2005-04-15
I knew that scriptwriting was formulaic, with lots of rules about what should happen at what page and all of the structural details. But this book plots out exactly what a cartoon should do! From the general outline to the set-in-stone types of humor. Who knew that anyone had codified all this stuff! It's all here, from the Flintstones to South Park. This is how it's done.
Far from being confining, I'm finding that reading and re-reading this tome (easy to read tome!) is inspiring beyond belilef. I'm cranking up my DVD player and finding that every detail of every chapter is true down to the last nut and bolt. Professionals have been following these guidelines for decades!
This book must be the textbook for lots of classes about this subject somewhere.
I'm a 3d animator, and it's my goal to make animated shorts a lot more "arty" than Pepper Ann and Rugrats. But this book is such an eye-opener! I've never realized that even the cartoons that I've loved for years - Simpsons, South Park, Ren & Stimpy - all of them! They all follow the same rules.
One funny thing about this book: For a writing manual, it has a phenomenal number of typos. What a hoot. The book is incredibly easy to find your way around. The author is simply a master at her craft, and the insights are invaluable for anyone not employed in Callifornia. Yet you can find 1 or 2 typos or grammatical errors per page. I guess they skimped on the editing.
If you're concerned about developing content for your own animations, or aiming at a job scripting for cartoons, or just want to round out your knowledge about scriptwriting in general, this is an awesome book.
A Unique Achievment: constructing an Animation script.......2001-11-07
Is a shame that a great book like this only have one review until now ( and a wrong one ) hence I'll try to correct this.
NOTE: Be aware that this review is for the GARDNER'S GUIDE TO ANIMATION SCRIPTWRITING ( this review is wrongly appearing TOO in the "Gardner's guide to Multimedia & animation Studios", some kind of problem in Amazon.com I Think, :-( SORRY Chaz )
I bought this book in August 2001, if you are looking for books about scripts there are many ones, some very good, but any is writed exclusively thinking in animation and cartoons. For the animator this is an invaluable reference, here is the summary:
1.- Animation - An Overview
2.- Cartoon Genres
3.- The Moral
4.- Central Idea
5.- Dead End Ahead - The Central question
6.- The Characters and the Character Arc
7.- Introduction to Plot
8.- The Twenty-Two minute Structure
9.- The Eleven Minute Structure
10.- The Seven Minute Structure
11.- Make 'Em Laugh - Levels of Humor
12.- Prose
13.- Dialogue
14.- The Scene
15.- Broadcast Guidelines
16.- The Rewrite
17.- The Writing Process of Animation
Glossary, Cartoonography, Filmography, Road Map Forms, Apendix
The book itself have a good easyreading design, with plenty of quotations and references to well known movies or series, here you have the basics of writing but you can find more profound books about this, the special of the book is that is writed for cartoons specially, have 3 chapters studying the structures of the cartoonscript of 7, 11 and 22 minutes, of course you can apply all the information for an animation of any length, movies or shorts.
Including checklists for Structure, Characters, Scenes, Dialogue, Humor, Prose, 3 Structure guides, 75 Excercises, 37 Rules and an Animated 7 minutes Teleplay in the appendix: You have here a book that will go to occupy an important place near you.
I'm not an acclaimed screenwriter in fact I'm a novice in this area but I'm working with a firm producing some animations and I can asure you that this book can prevent you some rocky mistakes in this special field and even If you are a Pro you'll find some good points here.

Customer Reviews:
Please!!! Save Your Money!!! Marilyn Webber is TV Writing's Biggest Cookie-Cutter!!!.......2006-09-01
How many books can she write that are the same information, only with a genre-specific twist? First she writes a general TV book and then she writes a book on sitcom writing - BOTH using this utterly stupid "roadmap" model. I've even been dumb enough to plunk money down on her live seminar in which she essentially reads from her own book. She latched on to this "roadmap" notion like a pitbull a LONG time ago and she STILL can't let go.
THEN she has the utter gall to write yet another book, this time applying the same hackneyed techniques to the field of animation writing.
When I was in college, using the same paper for three different classes would have been considered plagarizing oneself. It's amazing that her publisher hasn't caught on...
Save your money. Or buy Jefferey Scott's book.
A bit formulaic... but appropriate for the status quo.......2003-10-18
While there was some good information to be gleaned from this book, I found the methods presented rather formulaic... but given the current crop of formulaic, predictable and commercially tied-in animated movies in the past few years, I guess it's appropriate. I also found the driver/city block metaphor rather irritating after a while. But still, some useful ideas in here, hopefully one can learn "The Rules" to be able to break them and try to go outside the status quo and create something that isn't geared towards selling more toys to kids. Not surprising that the entire genre of adult animation was ignored (i.e., Anime, Bakshi, "Heavy Metal") since it's not commercially viable.
Tips on honing a uniform technique.......2002-12-09
Because animation writing is so closely tied to the creation of animation itself, Gardner's Guide To Feature Animation Writing: The Writer's Road Map is reviewed here rather than in our art resource section. Chapters cover the basics of how to link animation to story lines, discussing differences between different animation genres and how scripting differs between animation and live action scenes. Especially invaluable are the tips on honing a uniform technique and presentation to appeal to buyers and enhance sales of animation scripts.
a very good book.......2002-07-31
this book is really helpful for those who want to write animation movies. it helps you create a marketable script with a good story, fascinating characters, etc. it even tells you how to use humour in your script, and that is really useful! i recommand this book to anybody that has a great idea for a full-length animation feature and wants to write a great script for it. this book contains valuable information as well as exercices and a lot of examples. FIVE STARS!!!

A refresher for even the more experienced writer.......2001-02-04
Gardner's Guide To Screenwriting: The Writer's Road Map is designed specifically for those who have great script ideas for Hollywood films or television producers, but don't know how to set them down in appropriate formats. Marilyn Webber is an award winning author who writes professionally for both film and television. She shows how to develop marketable stories, create interesting characters, construct strong script structure, pen sharp dialogue, weave interesting themes, and write original scenarios. Gardner's Guide To Screenwriting: The Writer's Road Map is ideal for the novice and aspiring scriptwriter and holds much of value as a refresher for even the more experienced writer.
An excellent, writer-friendly "how-to" guide........2000-08-04
In Gardner's Guide To Screenwriting: The Writer's Road Map, Marilyn Webber draws upon her many years of professional experience and success writing screenplay scripts to show the novice scriptwriter how to translate a great script idea into a marketable story with interesting characters, strong script structure, engaging dialogue, interesting themes, and original scenes. This compendium of advice, techniques, strategies, samples and "how to" instruction is highly recommended for anyone seeking to write a commercially viable script for stage, screen, or television.
Distillation of Major Screenwriting Texts.......2000-07-23
Marilyn Webber has provided yet another screenwriting book to accompany the many other "how to write a script" books out there. However, she does an good job of distilling those numerous tomes into a simple guideline for drafting your first script. It's a nice, clear and concise manual for first-time screenwriters. More seasoned veterans won't learn anything new here; it's the same principles we've heard since Aristotle. However, kudos to Webber for providing the truths of screenwriting in a succinct manner.
For those who need a little hand-holding in your screenwriting, or a "road map" as Webber describes it, this book's recommended.

Thank you Ed Greenwood, AGAIN!!!.......2004-07-10
Dwarves Deep has to be one of the BEST Forgotten Realms accessories ever made together with Old Empires, Moonsea and Dreams of Red Wizards! It sheds light on the DWARVES of the Forgotten Realms, their exotic lands and their proud heritage. Their distinct culture, history, and civilization will win you over for sure!
Ranging from background history, to city and social descriptions, to important people and characters, to the respective gods and pantheons, to dwarven spells and magical items, to details of the dwarven language and kingdoms, to new monsters and half-dwarves (!!!), to adventure hooks and maps, this accessory has it all.
For other FR references/adventures, I recommend: the Old Empires accessory on Chessenta, Mulhorand, and Unther, the Dreams of Red Wizards accessory on Thay, the Pirates of the Fallen Stars, Moonsea, and Draconimicon accessories, as well as the Ruins of Myth Drannor Box Set Adventure, and the Ruins of Zhentil Keep Box Set Adventure (they are Second Edition AD&D, out of print and it will take a bit of searching, but it's well worth it).
For a more complete picture on Dwarves, I STRONGLY recommend the Complete book of Dwarves which provides additional information relating to the hardy stone-loving people, thus supplementing the existing material.
For an updated edition of events on Faerun's Dwarves see the Third Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, which even though is quite expensive, it is still very useful to all FR fans!
In conclusion, if you have a soft spot for the little stout short-tempered dwarvenfolk, try and get your hands on a copy of the Dwarves Deep accessory. You will not regret it! Trust me...
Fantastic Assessory!!.......2001-05-20
I was lucky enough to purchase this book when it came out and have never seen it for sale since. Combine this book with the Complete book of Dwarves and you have everything you need for a Dwarven campaign setting. This is extremly useful even if you aren't playing dwarves but they are being used as NPC's in a campaign setting. Everything you ever wanted to know about Dwarves but were afraid to ask. A must have!!
Classic look at the culture and the world of Dwarves.......2000-05-02
Welcome to the Netherworld! In this, one of the most fascinating sourcebooks in the vaunted FR series, Ed Greenwood takes you into the caverns far below the Forgotten Realms... where the Dwarves, a proud and dying race, do battle with the never-ending legions of humanoids, and spill their royal blood in their vicious battles against the Dragons who have stolen their ancient treasures. A grim, dark, and wonderful book, which will give you enough depth and drama for an entire Dwarven campaign! Highly recommended, for anyone who plays Dwarves, or enjoys Underdark epics.
Book Description
If you are concerned about estate planning you may be surprised that, even with a will, the probate system can eat up as much as 10 percent of an inheritance and delay the process two years. In The Living Trust, noted living trust authority Henry Abts presents a simple, inexpensive legal alternative that eliminates the costs and delays of probate and ensures that your loved ones will receive their inheritance promptly and exactly as you intended. This new edition has been completely updated to reflect the federal tax codes and up-to-the-minute developments in the legal system.
Customer Reviews:
Disorganized, repetitive and much too long. .......2007-08-23
This book contains quite a bit of good information but only after you wade through about 90 pages of sales pitch for living trusts. When you finally get to the part of the book containing actual information about trusts it is disorganized and repetitive to the extreme. Much of the book appears to be excerpts from trust seminars given by the author which are strung end to end to bulk out the book. A good rewrite and editing would make this a more readable, concise and useful book.
The Living Trust.......2007-05-15
This was a gift for my grown daughter. She says it is very useful.
The Living Trust: The failproof way to pass along your estate to heirs.......2006-11-10
It is an excellent guide book IF you have a Living Trust. There are a couple other books that Mr. Abts wrote that precede this one which are all very good and information everyone should know about, if you do not want to go through the expense of lawyers and probate. I am very glad that we had our's drawn up back in 1992. My husband passed in 2001, and this has been a great help to me, along with the help and support of an excellent Trust and Financial Advisor. The Living Trust is valid in every state in the Union.
A popular estate planning alternative in easy to understand book.......2006-08-19
As principal of a financial planning and wealth management firm, an important part of my service is to help clients coordinate their estate plan with other aspects of their financial picture, such as investments, retirement planning, insurance and tax issues.
The key to making the right decision is information about the potential advantages and disadvantages of each option for their particular situation. I highly recommend this book to my clients, which provides a clear and concise overview of the living trust and other wealth preservation vehicles.
In The Living Trust, Abts does a good job of exposing the drawbacks of probate, including complexity, cost, lack of privacy and delay. He explains why the living trust is an alternative for many people and for many reasons, including greater organization, greater assurance of complete probate avoidance and lower total cost than probate.
If you are interested in the fundamentals of trusts, estate taxes, and the administration of an estate, this book will answer many of your questions.
If you are interested in setting up a trust, this book will make you an educated client before meeting with a professional advisor and/or local attorney to set up your trust.
The BEST BOOK on this subject - Period! .......2004-07-24
Henry Abts is the foremost authority on the workings of a Living Trust in the nation. After researching more I learned that Henry was basically the pioneer of hte living trust industry and has collected the best legal minds to help him in his handling of this important subject.
This book is the best and most easily understood reference in print today. Henry has a special and unique talent of taking a complex and difficult subject and then break it down so that it is both understandable and interesting.
After reading this book twice, I did a lot more research and everything else I learned was already addressed by Henry. He also has another book on settling the Living Trust that helped me greatly. This is my way of saying thanks to a great author and educator. You will not be disappointed in this book.
