Book Description
Description: Five Films About Christo and Jeanne-Claude chronicles a 30-year collaboration between the internationally renowned environmental artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and acclaimed documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles. The Maysles brothers, along with such frequent co-filmmakers as Charlotte Zwerin and Susan Froemke, have captured the artists' enduring romantic and artistic relationship and the grandeur of their large-scale temporary public works. This series of award-winning films stands as a permanent document of the process, the political drama, the emotional investment, and the transforming effect the finished works have on all those who come into contact with them. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's artistic undertakings are legendary. Whether they were surrounding islands off the coast of Florida in bright pink fabric, erecting a 24-mile-long, 18-foot-high fence of white cloth across two Northern California counties, or wrapping the Pont Neuf in Paris, their monumental works become narratives of hope and triumph in the face of adversity. And the act of filming becomes a project in and of itself, with the filmmakers present every step of the way, from planning and permission, to execution and display of these temporary artworks. This three-DVD set is the most complete motion picture collaboration ever released between filmmakers and artists. Five award-winning films are included: Christo's Valley Curtain (1974), Running Fence (1978), Islands (1986), Christo in Paris (1990), and Umbrellas (1995). Each film has been digitally remastered with new transfers supervised by Albert Maysles, and the whole is presented along with new interviews and an 82-page, full-color booklet featuring stills, drawings, and essays.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
The decoration of church vestments, which are the ceremonial garments worn by the clergy at the celebration of the Mass, has always been a matter of high fashion. In the first place the crafts of silk weaving and embroidery, which provide the technical means for the decoration of these garments, have held a prominent place in the changing fashions in the arts since the early Middle Ages, and since that time have been used in the service of the church as well as for secular purposes. Secondly in a narrower sense of the term, both these crafts have been at the heart of fashionable dress through the centuries. Many silks intended for this market have also been used by the vestment maker, with the result that the vestments have remained in the forefront of each successive trend. This therefore is a book about the changing aspects of art history; its aim is to show something of the origins and use of the vestments themselves, but principally to trace the development of their decoration in the context of the arts of any one period. High Fashion in the Church is richly illustrated, as its subject matter rightly demands. It also contains an index, glossary and bibliography.

Beautiful artwork, VERY comprehensive extras.......2004-07-01
This artbook is GORGEOUS! Yu Watase is such a talented artist and storyteller, it's so great to just have all the art from my favorite manga series in one book. The colors are crisp and bold, and the printing, binding, and layout are very high-quality and professional. The incredible detail of the artwork and great story make Ceres, in my opinion, better than Fushigi Yugi. I think Watase have improved a lot in the presentation of her characters, and the artwork looks much more mature and detailed.
This artbook also includes character descriptions, legend summaries, manga summaries, maps, plot descriptions, as well as an incredibly enriching interview with Watase herself. This interview is really good. She gives very insightful information about the creation and production of this great series. She talks about the messages she wanted to convey through Ayashi no Ceres, and her own thoughts and feelings about it. Reading this interview really lets you see how mature, creative, and passionate she is (how many other manga writers/artists chat with the readers DURING the book?).
So, in other words, if you like her types of drawings, GET THIS ARTBOOK. It's so worth it. Full color pages, every single published and unpublished drawing from Ayashi no Ceres by Watase. You'll marvel at how beautiful and genuine the art is. This artbook is incredible.
Just Beautiful.......2003-02-26
If you are a huge fan of Yuu Watase's artwork you won't regret purchasing this artbook! There are 120 pages, most are in colour that are filled with just breath-taking pictures of the characters from Ceres: Celestial Legend (aka Ayashi no Ceres). If you've seen pictures of Watase-san's artwork for Fushigi Yuugi you will see a major difference in her drawings specifically the eyes and hair! Highly detailed in every possible way includiing the background. Adore this artbook because it really is a piece of art for shoujo and Watase-san fans everywhere!

THE PERFECT "GRITS" GALA.......2007-01-04
EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SOUTHERN SOIREES....PRECIOUS PARTY PLANNING....JUST THE CUP OF TEA FOR A BELLE IN THE KNOW
A Delightful book!!.......2005-09-06
I thought this was a delightful and entertaining book. This book is packed with many different southern traditions and customs. Deborah Ford, writes with much passion and love for many of the southern manners, and social expectations. I really enjoyed that she packed this full of vital recipes such as how to properly make sweet tea, a must have if you live in the South. She also included many other recipes for gifts and other things you may want to have in your freezer just in case.
Puttin' on the Grits was a delightful book, with all sorts of illustrations, and tips. I thought she did a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of the South in the modern world. Deborah also gave many wonderful suggestions for learning all about Southern manners and those unwriten expections for those of us who may now live in the South. I would recommend this book to those who may want to learn more about what makes the Southern culture so unique.
Miss Grits writes another winner!.......2005-08-22
If y'all want to know how we Southerners entertain, and learn a tad more about how important family and friends are to us, you need to read this book. Miss Grits can always be counted on to entertain, and I can tell y'all, no nicer or classier lady has ever existed. "Miss Grits" is no act, she's the real deal!
Country Clubs & Libraries, Oh My!.......2005-08-12
GRITS stands for "Girls Raised in the South" namely Birmingham, Alabama. Well, I wasn't just raised here, I was born here in Tennessee. The first year of my marriage took place in Troy, Alabama, where I attended Troy State College (now University) and the art teacher wanted me to pose for his class, but wouldn't ask me himself. That's not the way they do things in the South; first, he sent a young woman teacher to 'visit' me; then, he has some female art students to approach me in the halls on my way to Bio-Scio classes. You want to know why I didn't -- I didn't have anything to wear! Now, that's funny!
We all saw Southern manners and Hospitality at its best in the Auntie Mame movie in which Lucille Ball starred. She was the best Auntie Mame and perfect as a Southern belle. Happy birthday to Bill Ross (8-11-32) wherever you are. Friends and family are the center of life in the South, or used to be -- in the old days. Now, you have to be the elite to enjoy that commodity. The poor are ever there, but they do no entertaining.
In Knoxville, it is the liquor they all go for at any event. Food can come as they have the time, but you won't catch those men and young women without a glass in their pretty hands. If you want to be 'the belle of the ball,' be sure to have plenty of 'spirits' of all kinds for your party. Elegance and wit is not what it is propounded to be; the women here are as dumb as those in the North with their noses in the air. I enjoyed the drawings in this little book and especially the pink pages.
Who but a gal from Birmingham would have been able to get away with that. In this town of my birth, purple is the color of choice, which perturbs me no end. Pink is girlish and easy on the eyes. I love to wear blue, but do get more attention in pink. Is it true that all women are 'pretty in pink' and 'all brides are beautiful,' or is that just a Southern thing?
SOUTHERN COMFORTS.......2005-04-24
Was Scarlet the first, the first Southern Belle to win us with her beauty, spunk and determination? Perhaps for many. She's been followed by the Steel Magnolias and a host of others. These gals are always witty and winning. Then along came Deborah Ford with "The Grits (Girls Raised in The South) Guide to Life," and we're reminded once again how irresistible women raised in that part of our country are.
Now, Ford reads "Puttin' On The Grits: A Guide to Southern Entertaining," an entertaining serving of everything one needs to be the perfect Southern hostess. Listeners will hear about gatherings large and small, recipes (wet and dry), and tips for making every guest feel like a king or queen.
The author shares all - offering advice on what and what not to wear, as well as appropriate table setting for backyard and banquet. (Yes, even a tailgate party deserves special accouterments.) When it comes to gracious thank you notes, well, Southern belles have written the book on that topic - not too sweet, always sincere.
Mint Juleps are a mainstay, and charm seems to be a birthright. Y'all listen and enjoy.
- Gail Cooke
Book Description
Since 1972 and the release of
Deep Throat, the business of making commercial hardcore feature films has grown dramatically. Thousands of films are produced every year. Yet for the most part the industry remains a mysterious commodity, with the people behind it still seen as unscrupulous, vaguely threatening figures.
Now the record is put straight with
The X Factory, an eye-opening trip into adult feature films courtesy of interviews, on-the-set reports and a visit to the World's Biggest Gang Bang 2.
"The best peep-show coverage of the porn-video business."-Screw
Customer Reviews:
not the best book on adult films.......2007-03-19
I have read alot of books on the subject of adult films and this was not one of the best. Its not that its a bad book its just that anyone with web access can read interviews in the same vein with all the porn stars they want. A good Hustler interviewer asks the same questions (i.e. whats your fave position etc). Its one saving grace is the interviews with directors and behind the scenes personnel. If your looking for a good book on porn check out The Other Hollywood or Skinflicks both are great histories of porn films.
Refreshing lack of sensationalism.......2005-08-16
I've actually worked in the adult industry (I work at a production company) for 10 years, and I've read a lot of books and articles about it. I think this book is the one I enjoyed the most.
It offers insights into the personal lives of some of the legends and stars of the adult industry. While it does go into some of the downfalls (drugs, social stigmas, etc), it does so in a realistic manner, rather than a sensationalistic way that modern media is SO apt to do with this subject.
(For what it's worth, I've also read The Other Hollywood, and I know a lot of the people who were interviewed in it, and a lot of them say that their stories and words were twisted around severely.)
So if you want a realistic view of a business that holds a lot of mystery, you might want to give this X Factory one a try.
Complete Rubbish.......2003-09-19
I was so happy to get this book! I am obsessed with "behind the scenes" of tawdry subjects like this, and I had high hopes.
We all know what "X" films are like. This book was supposed to explain things we don't already know about, such as how the actors got into the business, how they feel about it, how much they make, etc.
This book is merely a compilation of interviews, nothing more. The author asks the "stars" what their favorite "scenes" are to perform, and describes the physical attributes of the "stars" with great relish.
Not only is the the absolute worst "documentary" type book I have ever read, it isn't even worth anything as a "X" type read!
I was appalled. I threw this piece of crap in the garbage.
A complilation of interviews that this author didn't even bother to weave into an interesting narrative.
DO NOT waste your time. If you are also oddly fascinated by the real behind the scenes of this type of thing, check out "Brothel: The Mustang Ranch and it's Women." That was an absolutely fascinating read.
Don't bother with this one unless you want to read about the "stars" favorite "scenes" and read about how good they look and how well endowed they are. Hey, we already knew that. If that was what we wanted, we could rent the actual "X" movie. I don't need this guy to tell me!
Customer Reviews:
Best book on Hollywood I've ever read.......2005-07-11
Did you know Coco Chanel designed costumes for three films? Do you know the difference between a first, second, and third AD? Do you know what a key light is? Can you tell the difference between a Paramount film and an MGM film? This book addresses them all beautifully and entertainingly. It is immensely readable and is based on oral histories kept in the collections of SMU -- all the Hollywood greats are quoted extensively. The book is broken down into logical chapters (actors, costumes, music, the set, etc) and you'll have trouble putting it down. Good for any film buff's collection.

Book Description
This is the first collection to be inspired and informed by the new films and archival material that glasnost and perestroika have revealed, and the new methodological approaches that are developing in tandem.
The collection brings together cinema historians and film critics from Britain, France, the USA and Russia to re-examine Soviet film and reassess Cold War historiographic assumptions. As well as providing new perspectives and source material on the much mythologised figures of Kuleshov and Medvekin, the book also provides the first extended accounts in English of the careers of directors Yakov Protazanov and Boris Barnett.
Inside the Film Factory reveals the subtle interplay between cinema as an industry and as an arm of the state, as mass entertainment and as propaganda. It is essential reading for both historians of Soviet culture and film scholars.
Book Description
In The Mind behind the Musical Ear, Jeanne Bamberger focuses on the earliest stages in the development of musical cognition. Beginning with children's invention of original rhythm notations, she follows eight-year-old Jeff as he reconstructs and invents descriptions of simple melodies. In a running commentary on Jeff's discoveries and a series of dialogues between herself and two imaginary college students who take different approaches to music, Bamberger reflects on the thinking strategies that guide Jeff at various moments in his musical development.

fifa 2001 vs I.S.S pro evolution 2.......2001-04-21
Me and a few friends were board one weekend and so we decided to compare the two of them and here is what we found out. Fifa 2001 has very realistic garphics and the players look very real and they look quite like the real players unfortunately for the people at E.A Sports Productions this is the only area in wich it beats I.S.S Pro Evolution 2 and this is only because the graphics on I.S.S Pro Evolution 2 are ot up to standard and do not look very realistic. The gameplay on Fifa 2001 is slow, it reacts slow and is not able to perform through ball very well were as I.S.S Pro Evolution 2 gameplay is quicker, more responsive, it performs moves better and in our opinion is of a higher quality than Fifa 2001. The lifespan of both games is short and though both games are shortlived Fifa 2001 still will not last you as long as I.S.S Pro Evolution 2 and also the refs on Fifa 2001 are not of a very high standardas they give away free kicks and penalties for what if you look at closly on the instant replay the player gets the ball first and hardly even touches the player the refs also do not allow sufficient time to be played on after a fowl so you can score and you will only recive a free kick for your troubles. The sound quality on both games are quite good but are nothing special. VERDICT Fifa 2001 I.S.S Pro Evolution 2 Graphics 8/10 Graphics 5/10 Sound 5/10 Sound 5/10
Gameplay 4/10 Gameplay 8/10 Lifespan 2/10 Lifespan 4/10 Over all 5/10 Over all 7/10 so if you are in the market for a football sim the only choise from us would be I.S.S Pro Evolution. L. Shelmerdine and friends.
Interesting..........2000-04-08
The main problem with this book is the translation -- the names given here for weapons/armour/etc. are different than the names used in the official translation of the game. Given this, it may be quite difficult to find what you are looking for. The maps are also quite difficult to follow.
However, if you're a true fan of the game, you'll find interest in the character and story information, and for that the book is well worth the search.
The WORST.......1999-10-22
Where to start? This is the WORST guide I have ever seen. It gives no info on any secrets. It's in black and white. It makes up info on the characters. Judging from the thickness you would think it was quite detailed, but in reality it just gave statistics of monsters and listed the towns. Dreadful to read. This was a huge wart on the toe of game guides everywhere.
The worst Guide in the History of Mankind.......1999-07-13
I'm not even going to waste my time and give a reveiw, it is plain horrible.
Kinda weird.......1999-07-12
This book is pretty bizarre. It contains interesting info on characters, but leads me to wonder where they got it at. Did they just make up the fact that Shadow enjoys hardboiled eggs or that Cyan carries a pocket watch with family photo?
Book Description
A new word has been introduced into the global language bankand this stylish book is its debut. A richly nuanced collection of text and imagery, sisomo: the future on screen is a book to conquer hearts and set minds spinning with questions. For business, reaching consumers has become a challenge on the scale of climbing Mount Everest. The mass market is splitting like an Arctic ice shelf, the media is fragmentingand brands have taken a big hit. This environment presents an unavoidable conundrum for marketers and advertisers as they struggle to find new ways to work. Television, once the shining knight of emotional messaging, is suffering deeply as networks scramble to retain audiences. A radical shift is also occurring in the relationship between consumers and the media. Where consumers were once passive in the face of the mass market, they are now savvy individuals wired into the greatest information network the world has ever known. Like it or not, says Kevin Roberts, author of the hugely successful Lovemarks: the future beyond brands, "Creating emotional relationships with the Consumer is the business challenge of the century." Enter sisomosight, sound, and motion, the combination that made television the most powerful selling tool ever invented. As Kevin Roberts has always said, "There are three keys to the Consumer's heartMystery, Sensuality, and Intimacy. Well, here are three more." Global ideas company Saatchi & Saatchi, experts in the heady combination of the senses, have put sisomo to work on television for decades. Now they are unleashing it in the new world of the Screen Age: on computers, mobile phones, PDAs, in-store displays, and sports stadiums; on screens on the sides of buildings, screens that glow in the corner of our eye. This book is both entertaining and challenging, brief and profound. It is for everyone who ever thrilled over a car chase or wept over a motherless deer. Its conclusion? Content that engages with sight, sound, and motion is the only way to cut through media fragmentation and connect with today's savvy consumers.

You either get it or you don't........2007-01-05
And if you don't, you never will.
Thinking about the future means changing how you think. That's something few are capable of doing - and fewer still are willing to do. The current marketing establishment has a vested interest in the status quo - recycling the same tired techniques using the same worn-out channels. What was Sisomo 20 years ago isn't today.
It's tempting to say that if you're over 20, you'll never get it - but that's a cop out. Even a 50-year-old like me can get it - not by pretending to be 20 again, but remembering what the world looks like to someone who sees with open eyes rather than the establishment's shades du jour.
A new way of thinking.......2007-01-03
Kevin Roberts really impacted the way I view communication and the dynamic that sight, sound and motion provide. He also made me quit thinking about computers, cell phones and televisions as separate entities. The convergence of simply communication through "screens" is a powerful concept.
I don't get it.......2006-10-23
This book was suggested by amazon to me as relating to writing effective web copy and web marketing.
However, I found it difficult to understand and it did not give too many suggestions on web marketing, so I was dissappointed. I already knew the new media - web 2.0 stuff (youtube, myspace, blogs, forums, etc.) exists and is taking away from old style media (TV, radio, etc.).
This booked seemed to only state the obvious that advertising and marketing has changed dramatically. You need to learn how to market using the new media. Find a book that teaches you how to use the new stuff rather than a book that just tells you that it exists.
I can say one thing for the book. It does look cool and have cool photos. It would be nice on your coffee table and impress visitors because they will not understand it and will think that you do. I moved it from one to two stars for look and coolness.
Great Book on Advertising and Media Excellence!.......2006-09-24
I would highly recommend this book to anyone involved in the broadcast media. Great insights!
A book well worth your time.......2006-04-22
Never heard of sisomo? Well, Roberts created that word, an abbreviation for sight, sound and motion. What I really love is that he gave us the word because new ideas need new words. In a world where we're already blasted by color and noise every day, Roberts believes it's not only possible, but necessary, to use sisomo effectively to communicate with others.
That's why much of the book is about the screen and our fascination with it -- not only the TV and computer screen, but also the cell phone, the iPod, the kiosk and the in-store sales experience. The next time you see a billboard, he says, imagine a screen instead.
I got through the book not knowing how to pronounce sisomo. But a check of the web site www.sisomo.com lets you know almost immediately that it's SISS-uh-moh. So there you go.
"We need to converge on one idea: making emotional connections with people," writes Roberts, the CEO Worldwide of the New York-based Saatchi & Saatchi, Ideas Company.
To make emotional connections, you need stories. Storytelling. Sisomo makes the leap from ancient times when all history was passed down in stories to modern times when the best way to communicate is to use sisomo to tell great stories. Roberts says the storyteller will be one of a company's most important employees in the 21st century, because without great stories and great storytelling, there will be no emotional connection -- hence, no good connection at all, with audiences and individuals.
Read Roberts' book. Look at it, too, because it sparkles with visuals as well as words. It has sisomo; it's so compelling that you can hear it even without sound. It should inspire anyone interested in making communication more powerful.
With this online review I want to make a small contribution to helping Roberts launch the word sisomo in 2006. He's way ahead of most of us. It's up to the rest of us to listen, understand and respond. Today.
It's why I love Roberts' periodic lists of "Five things to do tomorrow." Such as: "Talk to young people about how they use their mobile devices. Better still, listen to them."
