Fun, absurd, different.......2000-11-16
As with most experimental fiction some of the stories really blew me away while others did absolutely nothing for me. But in this case the good outweighed the bad - and even the bad were at least original. I especially enjoyed the stories by Barth, Disch, Ionesco and Landolfi.
The best academic anthology of experimental fiction.......1998-09-14
Over the years, I have used Stevick's book as a reader in several fiction classes I have taught, and it is simply the best, most clearly organized and well thought-out anthology of experimental fiction available. I would love to see it expanded and updated, but even as is, it is thought-provoking and generates wonderful class discussions about the possibilities writers have for deviating from the Aristotelean template. Bravo!

Bitter disappointment.......2002-06-25
I have read this book and agree with most of the other reviewers. As an avid elfquest fan, I was disappointed by the the art - it doesn't possess the quality of the Elfquest legacy. The art is substandard and embarrassing for Elfquest. The story, too, is mediocre. There is too much jumping around, holes in the plot, and departures from characters. The actions of the characters just seem out of sync with the other elfquest stories - did someone other than the Pinis write it? Of course I bought this since I am a fan and stupidly bought Phoenix, which is even worse than this one! EQ fans beware.
How much more hackneyed can Elfquest get?.......2001-06-23
How the mighty have fallen. This series has become so bad, so blatantly money grubbing, so sloppy and insincere, I suggest you RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY from this dog, with reproduction so bad it looks as if it could have been printed in mud. I am a former, devoted EQ fan. "Forevergreen" makes me a fan nevermore. Despite the Pini's garish self promotion and pleas to support them while they are working on their movie which they expect to make them zillionaires, they are doing it on the dollars of fans they expect to love them enough to buy this trash. There are many graphic novels out there from other companies, by creators who not only care about their work, they care about their fans. The Pinis are not among them. Don't give them your money. This is trash.
Not even worth vomiting for..........2000-10-10
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! If I could give it less than one star, I would! This is the most abyssmal book I have ever owned and I ashamed to have it sitting on my bookshelf. In the case of a power outtage, it is the first thing I will burn! If you love elfquest, then you will hate this...that Wendy and Richard even published it destroys my faith in their integrity and makes me very skeptical of future releases. This is the most hackneyed, untalented, uninspired, unbelieveable and nauseating book I have ever read! (and I've read a lot of stinkers) If you want EQ, read the Hidden Years graphic novel or Dreamtime...don't waste your time on this.
Ungodly . . ........2000-08-08
I remember reading these in full color and they weren't all that great then, but now this story has turned into a virtual eyesore. If you can actually get past the goof ball grinning faces and the faded ink look of the book, you will find that the story is mediocre at best. There are a few good moments, but as a whole, the story suffers greatly because the artist's work does not do well in black and white. Once again, I ask, what the hell happened to EQ? Barry Blair should not have been allowed to skew EQ in this fashion because it too closely resembles his dark elf series which, for the lack of a better word, is just bad.
Be warned, reader. This is yet another sign of the slow and agonizing demise of EQ.
Good but could've been better.......2000-06-26
Good story, but the beginning parts and the illustrations could've used a little work.

And behold--Arena Cheers and Applause, please!--the new MouthSounds, featuring more than 150 useful noises to make with your mouth . . . melodious, whimsical, and rude, too. The Taxi Whistle. Great Job.......2007-03-19
Being amazed for a long time by the ability some people show of imitating sounds and voices, and after not having found any websites that offers any ideas on how to imitate sounds, voices and to produce mouth sounds, i came to know Mr. Newman's fantastic work through a pdf document in which he is interviewed, and i decided to buy the book and the truth is that i found it very helpful and full of surprises, for example i didn't know that to bark like a dog you have to inhale, and that the duck quack comes from the cheek! The book is very educating in the sense that it not only gives a nice introduction about how sounds are generated, but also gives detailed step-by-step instructions on how to produce specific sounds.
i think that with practice and fine tuning anybody can learn something interesting and fun from this book.i do recommend it for sound lovers.
A Wonderful Coffee Table Book.......2007-01-04
I ordered MouthSounds for my daughter after she got her masters in speech. It's been a blast to have around.
Whistle, I still can't whistle..........2006-08-13
This is a great book, detailed and humourous but I still can't do the hands free, loud whistle!
Mouthsounds: How to Whistle pop boing and honk.......2005-09-26
This is a fun book. Listening to the CD in the car was also fun and easier for me to make a funny sound. It makes you realize how many mouthsounds you can already do--you just need a context to make it special. The author will tell you that making various mouth sounds is like aerobics for your voice--so you don't end up with an old lady or old man voice when you get to your 70's or 80's.
Strange but delightful sounds from my 11-year-old son's room.......2005-08-14
My 11-year-old son has been threatening to run away to the Fred Newman School Audio Realism for years now. He's a big fan, plain and simple. Saturday evenings our house stops so my son can listen to APHC, and laugh with, practice with, get ideas from the Noise Master himself. This book and accompanying CD have provided my son with hours and hours of entertainment, and noise training. Who knew an 11-year-old boy could ADD to the sounds he uses to fill a home? Fred Newman knew. Great book, great CD, both genuinely teach the fine art of boinging and popping....and trust me, these sounds lead to thousands of others. Thanks Fred! Thanks Amazon!

Stunningly Well Done!.......2004-05-17
Frederick R. Newman more than earned my respect with this masterpiece. His abilities to do these incredible sounds are, in my opinion, only second to his uncanny knack for filling others in on just how to most easily do them! Way to go Freddy!
Easy to understand, overall a fun book!.......1998-12-31
I learned how to bark like a dog (my favorite) and now I scare people at school. They look around with a confused look on their faces saying "Where's the dog?!?"
Very funny, informative guide to the folk art of sound makin.......1998-10-28
A well-written, step-by-step, fun guide to the folk art of sound making. I actually learned how to taxi whistle with two fingers, bark like a dog so well my chihuahua goes crazy, do cartoon SFX, and do a perfect impression of a water drip. I've used the sounds a lot in story telling, juicing up a story at a party, and when reading to my kids. It a great party book - I used it at a deadly family reunion to break the ice. It was a hit. The book comes with tear-out record which you will have to transfer to tape to really use. That's a pain, but it is very helpful. It obviously needs updating to a CD or tape. Book also includes a great deal information about the history of sound, the human voice, and sound-making. The author, by the way, was host of Disney's Mickey Mouse club for years, and now does voices, music and sound for Nickelodeon and Disney's DOUG animated series.

Best book on Hollywood I've ever read.......2005-07-11
Did you know Coco Chanel designed costumes for three films? Do you know the difference between a first, second, and third AD? Do you know what a key light is? Can you tell the difference between a Paramount film and an MGM film? This book addresses them all beautifully and entertainingly. It is immensely readable and is based on oral histories kept in the collections of SMU -- all the Hollywood greats are quoted extensively. The book is broken down into logical chapters (actors, costumes, music, the set, etc) and you'll have trouble putting it down. Good for any film buff's collection.

Concise and thorough - a must if you're heading to Vegas.......2007-05-12
If you are going to Vegas just to have fun, play the tables and maybe win some cash you will not be disaapointed here. I read this 3 times over a weekend and on the flight to Vegas. Did I win money? Hell, no but that was my fault (read - too many drinks). What I can say is this book allowed me to play intelligently and not look like a fool - which is about all you can ask for.
Basil Nestor Knows His Subject.......2007-03-02
Basil Nestor is a fine writer who really knows his subject and this book demonstrates that. Nestor explains clearly and concisely which are the best bets, how to manage your money, and how to have the best chance to win at the game if you are not a golden touch craps dice controller.
Nestor is one of the new breed of gambling writers who has a flair for language and knows how to instruct at the same time. This is a thoroughly worthwhile book and one I highly recommend.

Smart little book.......2007-02-03
Nice pocket size--very direct to the point explanation of craps. Going to Vegas, gambling cruise or want to learn the basics of craps?-this book is for you..
BEST BOOK OUT THERE, BAR NONE.......2006-02-15
I have a degree in Mathematics. Believe it or not, for a whopping $4.95, this book is the ABSOLUTE BEST on the subject. Teaches you everything you need to know -- concisely -- and LEAVES OUT A BUNCH OF CRAP YOU DO NOT.
I am dead serious. This book is ALL you need to play craps "right." (Pun intended.)

Adapting their techniques for fostering creativity as a means to spiritual fulfillment for the workplace, the authors of The Artist's Way at Work have shown that people can thrive at their jobs when they take time to nurture their spirit and listen to their thoughts. The book features psychological guidance, anecdotes, and exercises to assist the reader in sorting out the multitude of happenings, commitments, and choices in one's life. Again, these authors of the enormously successful The Artist's Way recommend their fundamental technique of "morning pages"--a kind of free-form journaling--to unravel thoughts and feelings, focus energy, and direct action. The beautiful surprise of this deceivingly simple exercise is that it actually works! It's making the time to do morning pages that's the real battle. But, if you, like so many others, feel swept up by the tidal wave of our fast-paced, noisy culture, then the authors' slow and steady steps toward reclaiming the spiritual self are invaluable. Some of the suggestions and exercises are a bit out of touch with the complex, and often emotionally-charged, political maneuverings of corporate culture, but the aim of cultivating an individual's ingenuity and resourcefulness is effective and expertly structured. Overall, the authors' philosophy boils down to change that begins with a constantly emerging self. With this book's help, you'll not only find how that new self spawns clarity and grace, but how widely their effects can reverberate throughout the workplace. --Karen Karleski

Fair Warning, Preview the Book.......2006-03-30
Reading the book for a masters level creativity class so I started out a skeptic. While much of the reading in the class has turned out to be very interesting, this book just hasn't struck any chords for me.
Some of the poeple in the class seem to appreciate it so it gets an extra star... but I'd suggest reading some of it before picking it up. If it works for ya, go for it. Otherwise, be cautious.
working artist.......2005-07-25
This is the second Julia Cameron book I have read. It is very much like Artist's Way except it is for the artist in the work place. All of Cameron's books talk about the artist within but it is for those who are looking for self. Self is what you are going to find. It is getting rid of what is unimportant and focusing in on the important making a complete and happier person. I am not quite done with this book but have devoured it and shared it as I did with her first book.
Artists can be thriving (not starving) artists.......2005-03-21
After completing the self-study program with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way ... this work-oriented book helps artistic and creative souls find a way to breath life and express their creative fire on the job. Cameron's analogy of the dragon is a dep metaphor to the fears that stop us from being our true selves. Instead of bottling up all the intense energy ... Riding The Dragon ... draws out our intensity with constructive excercies, wisdom, and a proper channel to achieve positive results. Cameron is one of the best informal writing guides for all of us with a voice were excavating.
Motivational Psychobabble Crud.......2004-06-10

Book Description
The groundbreaking book The Artist's Way has helped more than a million people access their creativity and realize their dreams. Now, authors Mark Bryan, Julia Cameron, and Catherine Allen extend and expand the original Artist's Way tools in an all-new program specifically designed to encompass the world of the workplace.
The authors asked hundreds of businesspeople to tell them the things that concerned them, receiving such heartfelt questions as:
How do I stay creative in a hostile and competitive environment? How can I remain creative despite criticism? How can I clarify and apply my strengths to my work? How can I overcome the depression I feel at my job? How can I handle an impossible workload?
This audiobook answers these questions and many more. The Artist's Way at Work will help you thrive at the job you now have, move into the career you truly want, or launch the business of your dreams. It combines the strength of three fields, the art world, which gave rise to the original Artist's Way, the entrepreneurial world, and the corporate world.
The Artist's Way at Work will give you a more satisfying, fully creative life in which you will feet a sense of wholeness, not fragmentation, a sense of cooperation, not competition. This audiobook will help you become more authentic, more productive, and better able to see and speak your truth in all facets of your life.
