The best Thor story I've ever read. In fact, one of the best comic book stories I've ever read. A near perfect blend of adventure, myth, fantasy and humor. Several LOL moments occur between Thor and the Warriors Three, and more than any other Thor book, Blood Oath gives you a real sense of Thor's character. By denying Thor the full use of his hammer in this story he is brought out in greater detail. A very interesting, if somewhat unexplored, connection is made between myth, science and faith that will not leave the "Christian" comic book reader cold (as many current comic books can).
The artwork is perfectly suited to the materlal and is full of character and detail. I cannot imagine any Thor or fantasy fan being disappointed with Blood Oath.

We LOVE Car Talk and were hoping for a terrific CD. However, only a few of the songs were worth listening to. Other people may find the songs great, but they weren't for us. We listen to them in the car where we can punch in the numbers of the tunes we like.

Yet More of the Boys..........2007-02-03

These guys just don't know when to shut up.

But, if you love cars, you'll like this collection.

This set is quite distinguished. Here, we actually see their musical knowledge much in evidence, perhaps even more so than their sense of humor.

I enjoyed this one more for the music itself than for the jokes. If you like the jokes more, there are other CDs in their series you'd like better.

Early in the century, a handful of American composers began creating a new musical culture in the United States. Abandoning the European musical tradition, they protested the marginalization of American-born composers and struggled to displace traditional classical music in America. This movement, known as "experimentalism," peaked during the 1950s and 1960s, when the music of composers like John Cage, Henry Cowell, and Charles Ives reached a new wide audience. This ethnographic account of experimentalism addresses the question of what social and political factors produced this avant-garde movement. Although European avant-gardism in music has been well documented, this is the first comprehensive account of the avant-garde in American music. This study chronicles the musical activities of the major figures and examines the development of a radical discourse among composers. Addressing experimentalism within the context of artistic and national politics, consideration is given to the effect of federal policies on arts support. This work will be of interest to ethnomusicologists and music historians, as well as to sociologists and anthropologists who study culture change.

Stretch your logic muscles here.......2000-11-23

He is "simply the best" is the phrase that most accurately describes the ability of Raymond Smullyan to create puzzles in logic. Written at a lower level than some of his other books, no background in formal logic is necessary to understand and solve all of the problems in this collection.
While the novice will find the problems understandable, even the veteran will experience new levels of logic consciousness as they twist their way through to the solutions. As the name implies, all of the problems in some way involve characters created by Lewis Carroll, and solutions to all are given at the end of the book.
If you wish to have your intellectual muscles worked and smile while it is done, then this book is for you.

Full of Wit and Wim, both logical and humorous.......1999-08-25

This time the reader comes along for Alice's adventures in Wonderland as a logical analysis, to asses the logical understanding and thoughtfulness of the inhabitant's minds (rendering surprising results). The puzzles go first from a young child's birthday party, then onto the mysteries of the eateries in the Queen's Kitchen. Next, Alice decides from obscure facts and hints who is mad in Wonderland (waddya go Alice!). Next tackle some clever algebric and arithmetic problems of the two queens and Griffon...just don't use algebra and arithmetic! Then help the White King decipher who the devil was the spy in his various trials. Travel through the woods to play some interesting card games with the Tweedles. Then kick back as Humpty Dumpty, with his little desire for brain cells, gives a 'true logician's' lecture on the nature of paradoxes and Godel's Incompleteness Theorm. At long last wrestle with some truly difficult puzzles in which the abscent-minded White Knight has almost completely forgotten the facts of some very interesting trials. Then asses the nature of a Looking-Glass logician. And finally analyse one of life's deepest mysteries...dreams. Did the Red King actually hit on the mark with his propositions of Type A and Type B? Or was he perhaps just a figment of Alice's imagination? But then...well, I'll let you decide. At any rate...read this book!

Use computerized "dashboards" to keep your business on the right track and out of accidents........2007-04-02

Shadan Malik aims to acquaint businesses with the concept of "dashboards" and the process of implementing them, from collecting information and assessing the audience to storyboarding and project planning. Other dashboard-related books discuss the value of these information platforms, but don't explain how to create them. One warning: The book is crammed with charts and images, which may turn off readers who don't absorb information graphically, though it will please those who do. Some screenshots are so poorly reproduced that you may think you suddenly need a new eyeglass prescription. We recommend this book to executives, department heads, managers and other businesspeople who wish to implement a dashboard and need some practical guidance.

Minimal utility--other books are better.......2006-10-24

If this is the only book on dashboards you read, you won't know that it doesn't contain much help or good "best practices". There was little I found to help me in my investigation of good dashboard design. In particular, I was annoyed that nearly all graphics are fuzzy and not crisp, and none are in color. Also, the author never mentions that dashboard meters that look like analog speedometers are space-wasting, and are NOT a best practice--like Wayne Eckerson does in his book, "Performance Dashboards". The table (not matrix--the incorrect term the author uses) provided for assessing dashboards was very superficial--not something I found useful at all. The book even contained a sentence fragment in a topic sentence--something I found unforgiveable in a hardbound book in this price range.

This is a book aimed at the experienced business intelligence developer or the C level executive. It provides a sound methodological framework for using enterprise dashboards as a fundamental performance management tool. This is a 'must read' for anyone contemplating dashboard deployment in their organization.

This is a Draft... for the next edition........2006-06-20

I guess this is the first book by Shadan Malik. It looks like a manual written for internal use by a company. It is a "methodology" to develop dashboards, with several paragraphs where the author presents rules that he uses in that activity, like the way he estimates project efforts, lists of items to check for and so on.

The book may be of help, for it contains several ideas and concepts that can be used in the process of developing dashboards. It should not be the single source of information on this subject, if you compare this book with Stephen Few's Information Dashboard Design you will find several differences of opinion and concepts that one should be aware of.

The author shall have to do some additional research on the area of visual communication. (For example reading Stephen Few or Edward Tuft books). Many examples presented in the book could be used as examples of things that should not to be done according to the experts in visual communication.

The author uses acronyms(a limited use)to present some general concepts related to dashboards. I personally don't like the use of forced acronyms, they remember me of an old way of teaching where the student memorized several facts just for the examination. It is better to present and give examples of each concept to help make the point.

I gave it three stars, thinking that this is the first book of Mr. Malik. If he would be an experienced author my rating would be between one and two stars.
