Customer Reviews:
A must for anyone interested in Zen and arts.......2000-05-06
I have been waiting a long time for a book like this. My interest in Zen and its relation with art began many years ago, and since then I bought a lot of books about the theme. But this one is quite different. It has the depth that any serious investigator of japanese culture or zen art's lover is searching in a book. Two things happen to be the most fascinating to me: the quality of the illustrations (superb), and the feelings transmited by the author about this real masters (not only zen masters, but life masters as well). The work of Audrey Yoshiko Seo will be in a short time recognized as a book for reference for students of oriental art, and a book capable of bringing a touch of calm by contemplating the excellent plates showed. The text is profound and sensitive. The lives of this contemporary masters and the facts that made their inspiration flow, are descripted with clarity and passion. This book moves me at a point that makes me feel really close to the heart of these masters of life. I will be waiting for another work of the author. Congratulations.

Customer Reviews:
Shiny bit of moody fluff.......2007-05-31
The opening volume of this manga had some good points and some bad points, and I really didn't think much of it at all until I gave it a second read. First off, let's be clear on one thing: this is eye candy with brooding and explosions attached. It might have made eyes at a meaningful plot at some point in its existence, but both of them went home alone at the end of the night. If you're still with me and have adjusted your standards for entertainment accordingly, then we're ready to talk about what worked and what didn't.
The Good:
The art is beautiful and the characters are distinct. I didn't have any trouble figuring out who was doing what. Speaking of the characters, they were...interesting, for lack of a better word. I found myself wanting to know more about all of them, even the ones I really didn't like. The action scenes were also well done and served to move the story along instead of distract from it. On the presentation side, this volume has notes in the front and the back of the book for character relationships and tidbits of information on the world of Kamui. Personally, I think that is the best feature that can be included in a manga volume and I wish it popped up a lot more often. And, finally, there's a two-page preview of the second volume, which looks promising.
The Bad:
The plot is hardly original, just your standard post-apocalyptic society of superpowered teenagers and the other superpowered teenager who's On A Quest but decides to join them anyway. It's not confusing, but that's because there's not a lot to confuse at this point. There's blood, gore, sexual imagery, and vaguely silly looking uniforms running rampant through the whole thing. But, again, if that's what you're looking for in your manga... The one thing that jerked me out of the story in the whole volume was the way the kids kept referring to adults in a way that made them sound like they were stuck between "fight the power" and "that's got cooties." It feels a little like revisiting junior high to me and I'm firmly against doing anything of the sort.
Overall, I found Kamui to be good--not great, but good. Most of what I would normally call "bad" is really only a lack of excellence. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an entertaining read.
Beautiful Art.~ :3 Yet, not a solid story........2006-05-04
Kamui is definately a fantasy/ action manga with beautiful art and fan service front covers.
The plot isn't really rock solid in my opnion though. Atsuma pretty much is on a mission and ends up joining NOA because of his abilities. The story doesn't really go off track I suppose, but it does it share of turns and suprises on what happens. There is some cute humor in here though.~

Book Description
Set in feudal Japan, this classic series serves up historical fact, social commentary, ninja lore, and graphic violence, making it irresistible for fans of the popular Lone Wolf & Cub. It's the saga of Kamui, who becomes a ninja to escape the oppressed peasant class but turns outlaw when he tries to leave his ninja clan. Hunted by assassins, he finds a temporary safe haven when he's shipwrecked on a remote island.
Customer Reviews:
Renegade ninjas.......2004-06-04
Sanpei Shirato's, "Legend of Kamui" series is a highly entertaining and exciting look into the world of ninjas and feudal Japan. This first volume clocks in at 260+ pages, and although the story and visuals flow at a rapid pace readers will find great delight in the superb artwork and stunning attention to detail that is packed into every panel.
While vol. 1 is basically the tale of ex-ninjas on the run (as they are being hunted down by their former clans), Sanpei Shirato finds time to inject occassional bits of humor and melodrama which ultimately gives this action packed series warmth and emotion. Also of interest are footnotes explaining the Japanese names of various ninjitsu fighting techniques being used in the battle scenes.
Battles and emotions.......2000-04-02
The Legend of Kamui is one of the rare Mangas that deal with fighting and battles without forgetting to tell a good story. Sanpei Shirato knows how to draw and to entertain. Certainly a Manga to start with.
A sad history.......2000-03-28
A very sad history, where Kamui must fight againts his fate: that every one he loves die. What seems to be a nice dream (peaceful life and the love of a woman, something he allways wanted) turned to a nigthmare when the ninjas came to the village. At first is very relaxig, considering the previous part of the saga, but soon the tension starts to build up until the final battle. This final battle vs a ninja as skilled as him is very well done, and can make you hold your breath until it finish.
Book Description
Forty percent of the U.S. adult population is single. And the majority of those singles feel pressured to find ''the one.'' But dating as an adult is not easy, especially in a culture that targets people under the age of twenty and seemingly ignores everyone else. Drawing from their own dating experiences and from their work with prominent Christian media outlets, including ChristianSinglesToday.com, Camerin Courtney and Todd Hertz offer their thoughts and bewilderments on adult dating relationships--not just to discuss the declining ''state of the date'' but to give hope and help to adult singles. With insight on everything from meeting someone after college to the much-talked-about issue of sex, their he said/she said style pairs a little bit of vulnerability with a lot of conversation to help singles navigate the pressures, trends, and temptations of dating as an adult.
Customer Reviews:
The Best unGuide Available.......2006-04-11
Many Christian dating books start with the premise that there's something wrong with you if you're single. The plethora of how-to-get-hitched volumes say that if you follow their prescribed steps and concoct their formulas, then poof! You'll be happily ever after married.
The unGuide to Dating: A He Said/She Said on Relationships stands out in crowd of methodical, one-dimensional Christian living books.
Authors Camerin Courtney (a thirty-something Today's Christian Woman editor), and Todd Hertz (a twenty-something Campus Life editor) are both single and understand our generation's unique dating plights.
Dating is more complicated now than ever before-especially for Christians. There are fewer single men in the church, changing gender roles, Internet dating, speed dating, shows like The Bachelor, and the effects of higher divorces rates to add to the mix. Singles are waiting longer to get married and Christians seem to be experiencing a dating drought.
This book could've been a vague diatribe, pointing fingers at the ills of society and what's wrong with men and women, but it's not.
The authors get vulnerable and share their own mishaps and victories, while challenging readers to take a good look inward too. They add to the dating discussion with ChristianSinglesToday.com reader input.
Readers (especially those on the older side of 25) should relate well to stories and insights shared here. Expect practical suggestions in this dialogue on dating, not just a list of do's and don'ts.
The male and female pair's authentic approach gives a much-needed mature, fun, and candid perspective. The unGuide has no money-back guarantee, but neither does real life-or dating.
Easy, easy read........2006-04-04
The "Unguide to dating" is a viewpoint written from
two singles perspectives. One a man (Todd Hertz) one a woman.(Camerin Courtney)
They each takes a turn in every chapter (Changing Gender Roles,Internet dating, etc) based on their unique experiences.
I have been a fan of Ms. Courtney writings for years.
Both her articles in Christianitytoday.com and her recent "Table for One" book have interested me in their easy insightfulness.
I have never read anything by Hertz, but Courtney's name is enough of a recommendation.
There is not a great deal of "meat" in this book. For a
meaningful discussion on why a Christian may still be single and/or to accept that we may never marry I recommend
Ms. Lori White blunt "the Single Truth" or Ms. Courtney breezy "table for One."
"Unguide to Dating" is simply a book of two single Christians
closing on to middle age telling of their humorous, frustrating and often enjoyable experiences as Dating in Christdom. And putting it in a larger context.
They are especially interesting when putting their own
(typical) single life in contrast with the myth of TV/Movies single life.
I have said that there is not much "meat" in this book.
I did not mean that as a negative. It is as breezy and enjoyable as sitting with two friends talking about life as Christian singles and the time fly by just as fast. I finished this in one sitting. Don't be surprise if you do the same.
Commitment-phobic Camerin.......2006-04-02
Camerin is a commitment-phobe. I have seen this type of woman many times over the past 23 years I have pursued relationships with women. Women over 30 who have never been married generally are in one of 3 categories which make them unmarriageable:
1. Physically unattractive (a minority)
2. Bad character (the BIG one- I encountered many of these: wackos, flakes etc.)
3. commitment-phobic (They pass conditions 1&2 but they have no real desire for marriage)
Then there is the angry bitter divorcee with kids. I do not want these women. Besides their being emotionally scarred there are two reasons: 1. I do NOT want to deal with the ex-spouse and his kids. 2. I want my own children and older women with kids almost always do not want more even if they are still physically able.
In the book they talk about friendship. Forget it. Women at the singles groups I go to are not looking for friends. They are only looking for a date. If they don't want to date you, they give you nothing more than the time of day. EVERY time I've ever been LJBF'd (let's just be friends) by a woman, she did not want to be friends. This is her way of telling me she wanted nothing to do with me.
I also did internet dating as the authors recommended. Complete disaster. As soon as those women saw my age they instantaneously rejected me. I did manage to get three dates with 3 different women(one date each). All three never spoke to me again after the date.
Why does Todd fear being a father later in life? Many famous men throughout history have done it. If God did not want us men to have children later in life He would have given us biological clocks. If Todd still thinks he is too old to have kids he can get a vascetomy. I believe the reason we men have more years to father childern is to have time to get through the thousands of rejections from women. The average woman will have more mating opportunity in her childbearing years than the average man will have in his entire lifetime.

Customer Reviews:
A delight!.......2005-10-20
I wasn't sure when I started the book if I would like a story where the point-of-view and author changed back and forth, but this was really well done! Their writing styles are similar enough that the transitions were smooth, but different enough that I felt like I really was inside the head of two distinct people. An original plot, strong characterizations and clever dialogue make this one a keeper for me.
Disappointing.......2003-01-12
I love all of Cresswell's books with only this as an exception. I must say that it is so un-Cresswell. Maybe because it is co-written. I saw the movie He Said ,She said and it was so funny and entertaining that I thought this book would be the same.
Book Description
Chick lit meets graphic novel in this addictive collection of naive felt-tip drawings, paired with typed fragments of stolen conversation. Artist Daisy de Villeneuve has created a sensation in the fashion and pop art worlds with her dynamically sketched faces of teens, which have adorned fashion ads, shoebox tops, clothing, and now her own line of housewares. Drawing on her influences, from The Bangles to Roy Lichtenstein, de Villeneuve has created a totally unique look with a decidedly retro vibe. The characters in He Said She Said, her first book, are by turns ruefully humorous and determinedly feisty, each speaking their piece in short, insouciant bursts. Scribbled on lined paper and possessing the furtive appearance of pages torn from a diary, the colored, spiked, and adorned faces in these pages muse dispassionately on themselves and one another -- and in doing so touch on the timeless bewilderments and longings that exist between the sexes.
Customer Reviews:
Cute.......2006-05-18
This is a very charming book. The pop artwork is incredible and the snipets of conversation at the bottom of each page is entertaining and enlightening at the same time. Daisy did an excellent job compiling this book together. I read it two times the first time I bought it, and it made me curious about her second book. I think that this book would make an excellent book for anyone under the age of 14 who enjoys art and relationships.

Customer Reviews:
An excellent book -- and not really about Call of Cthulhu.......2002-06-13
Don't get me wrong. There are basic additional insanity rules, though not many. They've got a quick Asylum setting each for the 1890's, the 1920's and the 1990's. There are a couple of photocopyable handouts and scattered references to mythos beasties.
But really this is a book about the treatment of the insane from the 1890's to the present. It includes treatments, attitudes, medical gibberish from the different eras -- even cure and death rates from historical Asylums! In between dark hints for investigators, the book is packed with a tremendous amount of historical information, and it delivers with a flourish. Beautiful.
Brillant!!.......2002-01-09
This book is eggcellent! I couldn't put it down from the moment that I picked it up. I'm looking foward to more of Tice's works. This book is enTICEing!
Truly In-Depth!.......2000-04-13
Taint of Madness is an excellent source of insanity! The detailed disorders and phobias as well as their possible "treatments" are a real dark spin to the game! A perfect explanation of how low the human mind can go! AWESOME!
Book Description
Often when people feel stuck, they try to change something about themselves. Authors Ritchey and Axelrod suggest that instead they should learn to see situations in new ways and create new options for relating to others. That process begins with DiSC, an assessment tool that reveals one's style of interaction. DiSC is an acronym for the four styles -- Dominance (direct and decisive), Influence (optimistic and outgoing), Supportive (sympathetic and cooperative), and Conscientious (concerned and correct). This book teaches readers how to recognize their style and its implications, how to read the styles of others, and how to choose the most effective style (or combination of styles) for any situation.
Customer Reviews:
Not helpful .......2007-05-24
I was looking for a book to learn about the DISC tool and to be able to interpret the results of a test, something I could use to train others. This was not helpful. I also purchased the sister book about teams, and that was almost exactly the same as this one. Don't buy both. The same charts were present with VERY minor changes. I don't recommend this book.
Good for retail .......2007-03-21
I gave the tests to the managers in my store and showed how each of us had different working personalities and what we needed to do to be able to work togther better.
Great for Diagnosing.......2007-03-03
I thought this book nailed behavior patterns to a "T", and also provided insight as to how best to approach people. It was very insightful for massaging relationships, but glossed over the fact that some personality types aren't ever going to perform certain functions well no matter WHAT you do (e.g., "social butterflies" are never going to be "producers", and vice versa, no matter how persuasively you ask). You can ease the situation but you're never going to change who a person is at a fundamental level.
Wasted money, wasted time.......2006-03-02
That's what you get when you buy this book. The book simply reprints the same material you get in the DISC instrument. There is nothing, nothing, new here. There is no insight, no detail, no discussion on how to use the information. I use DISC constantly in my business and found this book a total waste. If you want to understand DISC go to www.discinsights.com and get their home study program. It's terrific, detailed, and provides lots of examples. I also recommend the book "The 4-Dimensional Manager." Still not as good as the above reference but at least it's worth the money.
A great tool for work.......2004-12-15
As an earlier reviewer noted, this book isn't the DiSC in its purest form. However, it does provide a framework for understanding relationships at work clearly and concisely. I was introduced to the DiSC during a leadership school I attended through work, and this book provided me with the tools and framework I needed to share the model with my staff. In one-on-ones, I've been told that the process was both enlightening and useful on a daily basis.
If you're looking for pure DiSC, look elsewhere. But if you want a tool to improve the way you and your staff interact, written in a way that's easy for everyone to understand, this is the book.
