Book Description
The Military Pin-Up Kit by Gil Elvgren Artist Gil Elvgren (1914-1980) was lesser known than George Petty and Alberto Varga of Esquire magazine pin-up fame, though he was the most widely published pin-up calendar artist during World War II. Known for his depictions of wholesome girls-next-door, he was also a master at placing girls in precarious situations that always managed to lift their skirts.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

really comprehensive dictionary for fashion history buffs.......2000-03-22
Sprinkled with b/w illustrations, this dictionary has got definitions for all kinds of fashion terms. If you are a fashion buff or professional designer, this will make a great addition to the home library to fill in the gaps left by all the other great volumes, especially those that sacrifice some text to maximize the photos. Influential couteriers, footwear, textile types, armor, sleeve shapes, outerwear, gloves, jewelry, dye origins, military accessories, fashion pioneers, ethnic garments, special occasion accessories, mourning attire, hats and gloves, geographical sources for new weaves, evolution of the crinoline, and collar shapes of the ages are all covered. No pronunciations, but each definition does indicate the country/region of origin, masuline/feminine gender and the era in which it became common. Sadly, the compiler died after completing the text but before inserting all the illustrations she had intended to include. Had she lived to round out her project, it would have rivaled Boucher for completeness. This is not a light read, even so. A few explanations of origin are the only quasi-conversational items. The bulk of the book is pure information, with abbreviated sentences and just enough adjectives. A 2-page list of related readings and a helpful 3-page internation listing of museums with costume collections append the definitions. Not the first book to purchase for your fashion history library shelf, but a very good supplement to the photographical records.

Funny Funny.......2006-05-29
This is a short book and it is a small book in size. But the laughs you will recieve from this book makes it worth the money. If you collect attorney jokes or if you are a lawyer with a sense of humor this book is for you. It does not just have 'insult the lawyer' type jokes but many jokes all involving attorneys. Enjoy.
Funny, But Short.......2002-09-20
I received this book as a gag gift before I started law school. It was a neat coffee table type book for any aspiring or current lawyer. Most of the jokes aren't new. In fact, you probably already would know the setup if all it gave you were the punchlines. But its nice to have a compendium of jokes and anecdotes all in one place.
What can I say? I liked it.
We also love lawyers in Brazil!.......1997-03-12
First time I read it was during a 2-hour long evening bus trip between NYC and Wilmington, DE. I'm positive about two things: first, it was too short, I'd need at least half an hour more of laughing, and second, nobody in that bus will ever forget about that trip

Book Description
As much a testament to the art of the book as the art of animation, The Art and Making of Monster House is presented in lavish four-color throughout, with highlights of some of the film’s most astonishing features including 3-D art, gatefolds and die-cut overlays of the five stages of computer generated “motion capture” technology. It also includes envelopes, cards, and a movie poster.
Monster House is the first film from director Gil Kenan, who is living every young director’s dream, hand-picked by the film’s executive producer, Steven Spielberg, to create this groundbreaking film. This latest release from Sony Pictures Imageworks and ImageMovers, features the innovative, cutting-edge technology of " performance capture” animation, first introduced in The Polar Express.
Monster House tells the story of a trio of friends who discover the secret that a scary, creepy house in their neighborhood is actually a living, breathing monster and it’s up to the kids to stop the evil house before it’s too late. Standouts in the cast include animation veterans Steve Buscemi, Kathleen Turner, Catherine O’Hara and Jason Lee, as well as Fred Willard, Kevin James, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jon Heder.

An amazing book!.......2007-05-20
This is how "art of" books really should be made. Lots of inserts, post-it notes and fun details. It looks almost like a scrapbook and is filled to the rim with drawings, renders, concept art and fun stuff. Very inspirational. It is just as great as the "Open Season" book which is also a must-have for all fans of animation.

Love the book. A Priceless addition to an animation lovers dream book collection.
Concept Art Galor!.......2007-01-30
I thought this book was very suprizing in giving the reader plenty of images from the development the movie. Actually, almost to good.. there's so many scrapbook style pages that it can be overwelming at times. Regardless, this book is a must have for the Art of collector. If you liked this book and concept art check out [...]
Not only a new approach for movies, but for making-of books........2006-11-07
This book is just fun to look at. The artwork is sprawling (I can't believe how much artwork is created for movies; how fast are these artists working?), and the descriptions of how the movies was made are informative. This has quickly become one of my favorite movies, and this book makes it fun to see the evolution of its creation.
Fabulous.......2006-11-05
An enormous fantastic book.
Filled with all kinds of gizmos and folding stuff.
Beautifully illustrated story of the movie with sketches, paintings...
The emphasis is really on the drawings and not so much on the 3D renderings.

waste of time and money.......2007-01-17
Picking up and opening this book is a clolossal waste of time. Buying it is a colossal waste of money. If I had been able to rate this with a zero instead of one star, I would have. This book is nothing more than an advertisement for a movie. I do not know how anyone could possibly be interested in "artwork" from a computer-generated movie. Sad and pathetic.
Fantastic!.......2007-01-10
This book is amazing. Even though if the story isn't that great to you, just looking at the pictures is fantastic.
Beautiful Book & Movie.......2005-11-23
I disagree with the other reviewer, because I thought this book was very worthwhile and mine was in fine shape. The pictures are breathtaking and it gives you a nice insight into how they made the movie. It's meant to be a coffee table book and one that you look at from time to time. It certainly will put you in the Christmas spirit.
I sent this book back to Amazon for a refund.......2005-11-13
Although the content of the book is breathtaking, the book itself is very poorly constructed. When I received my copy, the glue keeping the spine together was clearly visible and beginning to separate. The continuity necessary when a single picture took both the left and right pages was completely destroyed by this pernicious affect. In the book I received from Amazon I could see the threads that held the pages to the binding. This is not an isolated incident. The copies sold at Barnes and Noble exhibited the same level of cheap construction.
What is wrong with the publisher of this book? Are they completely insane? This is a great story with beautiful Christmas imagery that is more deserving than the debasement it suffered at the hands of an administrator trying to save a buck. Shame on you!!!

Robert Zemeckis-Best Director vs. Norman Kagan-Worst Book.......2004-05-30
The cinema of Robert Zemeckis is simply AMAZING! People may knock him for making films that are both technically astute and successfully commercial but that is a subjective point of view. One thing no one can knock is that Robert Zemeckis can tell a great story!
As for the book by Norman Kagan, it is TERRBILE! I suspect Norman Kagan used the name Robert Zemeckis to sell more copies of the book. For when you actually read the book, like I did, Kagan spends more time telling us why Kagan thinks Zemeckis is a hack director and his films shallow. It just baffles the mind that someone would write a book only to try to discredit any talent the director might possess. Any insight we get into the technical aspects of Zemeckis's films are very superficial and actually have been taken from other sources. Kagan is more interested in Zemeckis's personal life and actually tries to psychoanalyze why Kagan thinks Zemeckis made the decision he did regarding each film. If this is serious research and critcal film studies, than it surely proves that some (not all) critics like Kagan, are fat, acne-ridden child-men who envy the seemingly easy success of others while they are condemned to write about it rather than make films themselves.
If you truly study Zemeckis you will realize that he had many commercial failures early in his career but more importantly he never gave up. Before Romancing the Stone, Zemeckis couldn't get arrested in Hollywood, afterwards, he was able to make Back to The Future. A film that you may say is dated, but is great example of the perfectly crafted script. The rest, as they say is history.
Seriously, if you want the best source of information on any Zemeckis film, watch the DVDs with Robert Zemeckis Director's Commentary ON. Zemeckis and his colleagues tell you exactly how they accomplished not only the technical aspects of his films, but how Zemeckis finds the truth to every story. You will discover the motivation behind his decisions and then see the result, right there in the film. I would even go so far as to say it's better than going to film school.
The Publishers Weekly Review is Dead On!.......2003-10-01
Clearly the author of this book has contempt for the films of Robert Zemeckis. Then why the hell did he write the book! I am sure there are many others who would have at least written an an unbiased look at Zemeckis's films. Also there is alot inaccurate information and quotes from the particular films. It seems like the author was incorrectly remembering the films after seeing them many years before. He feels that because Bob is such a genius at the tech. of film making, then his films must be shallow and have no real meaning. I don't agree with this all. The signatures of Bob's films are that they are full of real heart and overflowing with ideas that make you think. If you are a fan of Robert Zemeckis or would like a fair look at his work, don't waste your money on this.
Part biography, part film study.......2003-06-13
The Cinema Of Robert Zemeckis by Hollywood cinema historian and expert Norman Kagan, is an informed and informative survey and analysis of award-winning filmmaker Roger Zemeckis' life and his dazzling, memorable, and often pioneering works of cinematic excellence, including "Back to the Future", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", "Forrest Gump", and more. Part biography, part film study, The Cinema Of Robert Zemeckis is a truly fascinating work and especially recommended for fans of Zemeckis' cinema who want to learn more about the ideas and the man that crafted such enduring silver screen favorites.
A High Recommendation for Kagan's book on Zemeckis.......2003-05-05
Norman Kagan has written another highly readable yet scholarly work -- this time on Robert Zemeckis. An excellent mix of background, content and criticism -- this book is thorough, well-organized and entertaining.
Book Description
This fall, Academy Award -winning and groundbreaking director Robert Zemeckis offers a vision of the ancient epic poem "Beowulf" that has never been seen before. Actors Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, John Malkevich, and Robin Wright Penn bring to life this macabre dark ages tale. Fans of the intense, action-packed film will relish this extraordinary hardcover packed with lavish concept art from production designer Doug Chiang's revered studio (responsible for the design of Robota, Star Wars, Episode I, and War of the Worlds).
