5 out of 5 stars A great resource for Renaissance French dance.......2000-04-27

A book to have if you're interested in Renaissance dance and which is especially useful for beginning dance reconstruction as it's quite accessible. It contains a translation of the whole text by Thoinot Arbeau (published in 1589) translated into English, plus notes and a set of modern notation for the dances. The text is structured as a dialogue between an old dancing master and his young student and contains descriptions of steps, various dance trivia and some social context info, and usually the music, coreography and possible variations (though not all of these for every dance). Many of these dances will be known to dancers of early music yet you could be surprised to learn that many so-called Arbeau dances do not follow his text much. Additionally there's quite a scope for improvisation along the guidelines given. The dances include many branles, a couple of pavanes and basse dances, tourdion and galliard variations, etc.

2 out of 5 stars In All but Blood.......2003-07-18

Elfquest used to be fun. No, really. It was hokey at times, but it took itself seriously which gave the hokiness an endearing quality, it had lovely art, and it sometimes actually had something genuine to say.

Over the past years, ever more Elfquest books have come out, and while some of them have been OK, more have been increasingly bad, until this is the worst of all.

Yes, it's nice to see Pini-like art back (though in a careless and occasionally mutant-looking form), but the stories here are beyond saccharine. They're like eating a bag of sugar. The dialogue is unspeakably awful-- poor Strongbow is made to say "Scramble and ramble!" at one especially low point. It's as if the whole thing were a Highlander II -esque self-parody.

                      Gag. Avoid it.

First, this might sound bias because Elfquest is my favorite book series. I consider Wendy and Richard Pini to be one of the greatest story tellers of our time. I would say the first eight books are the best, and I've been reading Elfquest way back when the first graphic novels were released. "In All But Blood" is a great book, where the stories fall between or right after the first 8 books. If you're a fan of Elfquest, I would highly recommened this book. If you havn't read Elfquest, I suggest you do yourself a huge favor and order book 1, Fire and Flight. You won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars The beauty of friendship revealed..........2002-06-26

The relationship between Cutter and Skywise, two male elves who are "brothers in all but blood," is explored in-depth in these marvelously written stories. The illustrations, though not by Wendy Pini herself, are at least decent, unlike some of the other recent ElfQuest books. I could not give higher praise to such a celebration of an aspect of relationships too rarely seen in modern culture.

5 out of 5 stars A delightful addition to the EQ series........2002-05-15

From the exquisite cover art to the outstanding stories contained in the graphic novel, this is one of the best EQ collections I've ever seen. The art is uniformly stunning -- EQ has finally found artists worthy of Wendy Pini's example. And the stories are well-written.

The collection covers the relationship between Cutter and Skywise, two male elves who consider themselves "brothers in all but blood". Different aspects of their relationship are revealed, including their "sort of Recognition", and Skywise's fear and loathing of the idea of Recognizing a mate. The tone of the stories varies from serious to playful (I think the image of a troll beauty shimmying out of her dress has permanently scarred my retinas). The stories are all black and white art, but one doesn't miss the colors with art and storytelling this lush.

I loved this book! It reminds us that being single is not a disease we should avoid at all costs! But sometimes it should be cherished, and that the behavior is normal afterall.

                      5 out of 5 stars I'm wondering if she's still "SINGLE"?.......2001-08-06

Kim Coles and her adventures in dating had a lot of highlights and actually had me wondering if these guys existed. From the time that she sneaked to see a guy, to her high-school mishaps and college meltdowns, from her marriage and divorce to dating Mr. Right and Mr. Right Now, Kim is very frank about her experiences and is not trying to scare people, but get them to look past the rose-colored glasses people tend to look thru in order to see what they want to see. As for the men, she left behind some pearls of wisdom that would help us to locate and relate to the woman of our dreams, instead of just feeding on the fantasy. Sure, she's not an expert on the subject of dating, but she had enough to say to put it on paper, and she said it very well. Funny and thought provoking, a fine piece of work.

I have enjoyed this book. It is full of fun loving material. As usually Kim find humor in things that are not normally taken "humorously" If you want a good laugh on your way to work or from school, get this book a de-stresser.

                      3 out of 5 stars Hmm..........1999-07-17

This book had it's funny moments, but it was not nearly as funny as I had hoped. A lot of these jokes/senarios, we have all heard before. A worthwhile read if you really like Kim Coles in general. Not so worthwhile if your looking for a really hilarious book with fresh new humor.

This supplement is great! The powers that affect modern technology can really add a powerful edge to any adventure. And as for the magic players that can't figure out how to make psionics work the way they want it to, just put all of your points into kinetics. When your character can snap the necks of any of your adventure's villans with an unskilled push, you don't really need to be creative.

                          2 out of 5 stars Dissappointment.......2000-02-19

I owned this book. I got very excited. I was very disappointed. THe Pisonics were so much weaker than magic. THe balance was not there for the two systems. They were also very differnt. That made for stumbling in the game. Loss of fluidity. Hopefully they will revamp it.

4 out of 5 stars A nice book on estate planning that made me feel like I was reading an online blog........2007-09-26

This book was better than most I've read on estate planning. Its objective was to familiarize the reader with the estate planning process. I'm not sure it really covered "the process." But I think it educates the reader well enough to be an educated consumer when consulting an estate planning attorney for help in estate tax planning matters.

As I read I got the feeling the authors were anti-probate and pro- living trusts. And there were certain things included in the book that made it sound like a promotional piece for the authors' own law practices and organizations. I would have liked it better if the book had not come across as a promotional piece.

The authors say to treat this book as a survey of what estate planning can be. When reading this book (7 years after it was written) I got the feeling the content could have been a bunch of blog entries the authors have posted online that they conveniently strung together to make a book. There are 42 chapters and 4 "entries" in the appendix. And the book is only 330 pages long.

I was looking for a Glossary of Terms, but failed to find one. The book would have been better with one. And I would have liked the book better if Appendix D about the history of estate planning had been moved to the front.

Chapter 1: What is estate planning? I felt this chapter was lousy. It was wordy and vague and not really accurate. Estate planning is really "estate tax planning." It is not financial planning or "wealth strategies planning" as the authors suggest. Nor is estate planning to be confused with "disability planning." As a result, I'm not sure why Chapter 4 was included.

Chapter 8: Probate. I enjoyed reading about estate administration in this chapter. But I think the authors did the reader a disservice by equating the probate process to estate administration. Other problems I had with this chapter include the statement made that executors work for the probate court or probate judge. This simply is not true! Executors work for the estate (a separate legal entity). And the statement that probate is complicated is not accurate as stated. In some cases it can be. But in most it is NOT.

Chapter 9: The federal estate tax. Here the authors repeatedly referred to the estate tax as a death tax. The estate tax has nothing to do with death. It only has to do with wealth transfers. If a poor person dies, then no estate tax is due. If the estate tax were really a death tax, then a tax would be due when a poor person dies.

Chapter 10: The unified system. I had a problem with the material the authors chose to talk about here. Why was it necessary to discuss the way things used to be? As far as I am concerned the book would have been much better if the authors had stuck to the present and explained how things are now. The presentation of the material would have been much more straighforward and easy to understand. 4 stars!

5 out of 5 stars Protect Your Estate - by Esperti, et al.......2001-08-09

I bought the previous edition of this book several years ago and learned so much from its straight forward, well-organized and clear presentation (I am neither an accountant nor a tax person) that co-workers and family members began quizzing me on matters of estate planning. This book allowed me to answer many questions and also enabled me to have a very intelligent conversation with a professional estate planner. I consider the book such a valuable resource that I just purchased the updated edition.

                            5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff!.......2001-07-16

I am an estate planning attorney, not affiliated with any of the author's companies, and I think this book is a "must read" for anyone who is serious about planning his/her estate.

By the way, estate planning is for everone, not merely the "wealthy." The cost (in time and fees) to have a customed designed and implemented estate plan will probably be the best investment you will ever make to protect and preserve your wealth for your loved ones.

5 out of 5 stars Detailed overview in layman's terms.......2001-02-02

Outstanding book to educate yourself on estate planning. This book will prepare you for the planning process so you can understand what your estate planning attorney is talking about and what he or she is trying to accomplish for you. It also very clearly outlines the fallacies inherent in trying to conduct estate planning without competent legal counsel. The authors tell you know how to find competent advice and how to arrange conduct free consultation interviews with any prospective estate planning specialists.
