Fly tying:Adventures in Fur, Feathers and Fun.......2006-01-16
This book is more than I hoped for. It explains the art of fly tying in a way that I can comprehend.
Wonderfully illustrated, complete "how to" presentation........2000-09-07
In Fly Tying: Adventures In Fur, Feathers And Fun, experienced angler John McKim presents a complete "how to" a one-volume workshop covering every aspect of creating flys including tools and materials and fly tying techniques. This "fisherman friendly" compendium of advice and instruction is wonderfully illustrated by McKim's line drawings. Very highly recommended for the serious fly fisherman, the informative and practical text is enhanced for the aspiring angler with a glossary of fly tying terms, sources, and an appendix of fly diagram plates.
My whole family learned from this book.......2000-04-11
I bought this book with plans to begin tying flies. After watching me tie McKim's "Just a Bug" pattern, my partner had to try it too. Within a few days she, I, our two youngest children (ages 8 and 11), and her father had all tied flies. In addition, with the author's directions, I made two of the tools I now use for tying. The book has loads of information beginners like my family and I need regarding tying techniques, tools, materials, and fishing techniques for new patterns. After tying my first 100 flies (15 patterns) based on the instructions in this book and one other, I was able to examine the fly that gave me an hour of non-stop fishing action last summer and figure out how to tie it. Now I'm ready to return to the stream with a dozen of my favorite pattern fresh off my own vise.

Product Description
When you see dinosaurs, you almost certainly see them through the eyes of Charles R. Knight. And youre not alone: Generations have relied on his vision for guidance as well as inspiration. Stephen Jay Gould said, I cannot think of a stronger influence ever wielded by a single man in such a broad domain of paleontology. Knight wasnt a paleontologist, though. He was an artist, and now, for the first time, you can read about his life and work in his own words. This previously unpublished autobiography will introduce you to his early years, his travels and accomplishments, the amazing people who influenced him, and his insights on the creatures he brought to life and who have thrilled generations. The book opens with a foreword by author Ray Bradbury and special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen and a biographical essay on Knight by William Stout (The New Dinosaurs). The autobiography itself features illustrations by Mark Schultz (Xenozoic Tales, Prince Valiant). To round out the volume youll find memories from his granddaughter Rhoda Knight Kalt and appreciations from prominent names in anthropology and paleontology. Dont miss this rare treasure. Though Knight once said about himself No one interests me less, find out why artists such as Frank Frazetta would tell you that no artist should interest you more!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent for young readers........2007-05-28
My fourth-grade son used this book for research for a report on Charles Knight. He enjoyed the book tremendously and found it very useful. He's a strong reader, so the prose might be a little advanced for young children. The story of Charles Knight, however, is inspirational and fascinating to anyone who loves dinosaurs and/or movie making.

In a Magnolia Minute: Secrets of a Late Bloomer
ASIN: 192855623X |
Book Description
Turn South at the Next Magnolia is a collection of commentaries on Southern life and phenomena. Author, Nan Graham has been a bi-weekly commentator on Wilmington, NC's local public radio station since 1994.
Customer Reviews:
A perfect delight........2005-08-12
This book is a wonderful compilation of small essay's written by a commentator concerning life and living in the South. It's small, each essay takes only a minute or two to read, and its a joy to read. Take a little bit of Southern Comfort from this book as it will warm your heart and lighten your heart. Highly recommended.
The right book for anytime. Read with joy and delight!.......2001-08-31
What a treat to be able to pick up a book and read with a laugh in your heart. It is a book that can be read under the hairdryer, while waiting in the doctor's office, waiting for your tennis lesson, before you fall asleep and all the while wishing someone was reading it with you so you could laugh and smile together. The stories are short and if you are from the South characters, places, traits, superstitions, and family hit that familiar nerve with unabashed humor. If you are not from the South, "looking in on the Southerner" is like sneeking a look into a secret society and giving you a jolt of joy. This book is recommended for everyone. If you are a Garrison Keillor fan, you will find the portraits in Livingston, Al as real as those in Lake Wobegon. I am sorry the stories ended. Maybe there will be another soon.

Turn South at the Next Magnolia.......2000-11-08
Southerner Nan Graham catches the essence of the South in her delightful book. While we "yankee's" chuckle, the book is truly enlightning about the South and it's culture. The demistification of the southern "way's" are humerously recanted while enjoying an insight on her "Southern" husband but more importantly her "Southern" West Highland terrier and of course a cat named Sumter. (Don't read the book until you know what Sumter is.)
Loved it!.......2000-11-05
Nan Graham reads like a fresher, funnier Bailey White. Hilarious insight and observations from a new Southern voice. Passages detailing the eccentricities of her hard-headed husband and his curious family made me laugh out loud. Not too shabby for a first book. Two thumbs up from this jaded cynic. I will send a copy to all my Southern friends and to some sympathetic Yankees who I also count as friends.

Star Wars Who's Who: A Pocket Guide to the Characters of the Star Wars Trilogy (Star Wars)

Don't Waste Ya Money.......2003-05-13
Read the Official Star Wars site instead of buying the small book. It contains small photos and extremely average descriptions.
The perfect quick reference........1999-05-29
"STAR WARS Episode I Who's Who" is perfect as a quick guide to the characters in "The Phantom Menace" but doesn't give a lot of in-depth information on most the Key characters like, Qui-Gon Jinn or Queen Amidala. The book mostly repeats what we already can figure out by watching the movie. At least it has good clear pictures of the characters we hardly get to see like, Yaddle (the same species as Yoda).

Book Description
This book is about the life, times, and adventures of Robert T. “Bob” Uda primarily during the first 20 years, or the first third, of his life. It is about growing up as a Hawaiian Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer. The many shenanigans and escapades experienced while growing up in Keolu Hills and Kailua, Hawaii, inject down-to-earth warmth to this barefooted boy’s life story.
Customer Reviews:
Homemade Book.......2007-01-03
This appears to be a self-published book by an engineer who is quite full of himself. Some of the tales of growing up in suburban Honolulu are amusing, but it is mostly about keeping in touch with various high school classmates and the e-mail correspondence and rambling remembrances they have of each other. Not professional literature, and not even good story telling. And really no kolohe stories at all. Nothing kolohe about dis buggah. He was the high school nerd.
If you are a member of the `ohana, then you probably have a copy already. If you are not, please do not waste your money.
Book Description
As senior managers at AchieveGlobal, one of the world's leading sales organizations, the authors know what it takes for companies to position themselves for growth.
Today's complex selling environment has altered the definition of what it takes to be truly successful. Companies need to do more, more, more: grow more revenue, add more customers, and utilize more marketing channels.
Sales performance consultants Mark Marone and Seleste Lunsford, and the team at AchieveGlobal, identified 17 business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) organizations from various industries that have successfully and aggressively pursued and implemented cutting-edge global solutions to these issues. They then conducted in-depth phone and face-to-face research with 150 individuals from the high-performing sales organizations, including Marriott International, HP, Office Depot, Sprint PCS, Yellow Book USA, Ingersol Rand, Fuji-Xerox, and TD Waterhouse.
Strategies That Win Sales goes beyond the nuts and bolts of sales process books by identifying higher-level challenges, including how to:
* Segment customers.
* Align a sales force with today's more sophisticated and knowledgeable customers.
* Extend multichannel strategies, including distributors, e-commerce, teleselling, and face-to- face selling.
* Implement e-commerce, customer relationship management, and sales force automation.
* Train salespeople to be competitive and grow revenue in this new business environment.
The book's narrative format contains examples, cutting-edge solutions, case studies, and quotations from participating companies, as well as trends and predictions for the future.
Customer Reviews:
The B2B Business Sales Stories are worth the price alone!.......2005-10-21
This book leaves the Sales Training and Selling Tips to sales training companies like Performance Insights, LLC.
It is a book about the Complex Sale. This is about strategy and not how to to break the ice when cold calling.
Not for those new to sales looking for the how to book.
The use of large companies selling in the B2B world was of particular interest.
ASales Book That Has No Hype!.......2005-06-27
Today's selling environment is more complex than ever. This complexity presents problems and opportunities. How to best overcome the problems and take advantage of the opportunities is the message of Strategies That Win Sales.
This book is based on a survey of 150 individuals from 17 top companies. It's an inside look at what customers want and what high-performance sales organizations are doing.
Strategies That Win Sales consists of ten chapters and three appendices. Appendix A, "Five Roles for Successful Sales" is a worthwhile read on its own. The introduction explains the methodology of the survey, and how it relates to the content of the book. The first chapter details the challenges facing today's sales force. These include excessive price pressure, more competition (we're global, now), more sales channels (often competing with each other), and even better-informed customers who make more demands.
The result of the research behind Strategies That Win Sales was the identification of seven strategic areas that leading sales organizations use to win sales. One of the most interesting of these areas is consultative selling (Chapter Five). That kind of selling is not a "one size fits all" solution. If you can identify the customers with whom that approach works, your sales can benefit. But applying it to the wrong customers can hurt sales.
Strategies That Win Sales doesn't provide any "magic bullets" or neat gimmicks an incompetent salesperson can apply to become an overnight success. Nor does it provide any five-step solutions for sales managers needing to turn an underperforming sales team into superstars. This book is low on hyperbole, and heavy on real information. (Actually, it has no hyperbole).
One thing today's successful sales practitioner has in common with the sales champ of yesteryear is hard work. Another is the ability to listen to the customer. That much hasn't changed, and probably never will. But, the devil is in the details, and this book goes over them thoroughly.
On the downside, Strategies That Win Sales is following a recent trend of insufficient editing. The many grammar gaffes in Strategies That Win Sales occasionally hide the meaning the authors had intended. In some cases, I was unable to determine the meaning at all. This book contains valuable information, and a second printing would be good for all concerned--but not until the authors (or publisher) retain a copyeditor to make the text conform to Standard Written English (SWE).
Strategies That Win Sales also contained an odd language convention--I have no idea why. The authors used the word "impact" in odd places, turning some sentences into farsical gibberish. Impact means "to force tightly together." This is why we say teeth are "impacted" and why a doctor prescribes laxatives if your diagnosis is that you are "impacted." I fail to see the value of planning to "impact customers," though the authors talk about this repeatedly. I can't imagine any sales person going around and "impacting customers" without getting arrested rather quickly. Sales has changed, but not THAT much!
