Book Description
The Essentials Series.
In the architectural wilderness of the modern age, 71-year-old Frank O. Gehry stands out for his incredibly inventive buildings-from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles to the recent Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. This portrait of one of the hottest cultural icons of our day examines Gehry's life and work-and his continuing search for new forms and new means of architectural expression.
Customer Reviews:
Great photos and interesting writing.......2002-10-25
I found this book at the Indianapolis Institute of Arts. The author does a fine job of surveying Gehry's career and accomplishments. The reader is also offered some additional GENERAL information on various influencing architects, and architectual syles and/or movements. While the text is concise, it is truly unpretentious. The photographs are splendid, especially those showing his masterpiece, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. While this is not a full treatise on the works and influence of Gehry's career, it is exactly as the title suggests: it offers the essentials of Gehry's artistry and mastery.

Book Description
Once upon a time in England, 1962. By day, Terry Sharp is a successful director of horror films, consumer of cocktails, and chaser of skirts. By night, the horror is real as he battles tirelessly against a Satanic conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of government. Sharp's willing to go to hell... so you won't have to.
Customer Reviews:
Sharp Design, A Cutting Tale!.......2006-07-17
The Faceless (the first Terry Sharp tale in a long line I hope) is one of the rarest of all birds these days. A graphic novel that manages to create a solid air of mystery around both the characters and what could happen next. Taking an obvious love of horror films to a new level in comics storytelling, not only is it LIKE the classic Hammer films, it creates something new from that stylized mythos. A character obviously crafted with care, Terry is exactly the kind of guy you would expect to find in the middle of a bizarre conspiracy...but cooler! Blended with just the right sprinkles of cool and confusion-The Faceless leaves the reader wanting more. And you get it with the bonus interview and a short "film" that is worthy of it's heritage with each panel. And the art... Adrian Salmon mixes total stylistic coolness with the rare ability (and attention to) actual SEQUENTIAL STORYTELLING that is lost so often in the "hep" world of graphic (design) novels. Excellent character design that doesn't forget expressiveness in both motion and in simple telling details such as facial expressions, it flows well and compliments the story instead of overpowering it. The coloring is simply peerless as well-instead of candy coloring everything and making it look like everything else on the market these days, the mood is set by the colors and the story flows through the art. Neil Vokes provides the startlingly cinematic backup art, complimented well by the coloring of lead artist Salmon.
Overall, a chance to get something that many comics don't bear out of late-pure graphic satisfaction.
So much to say about this book. Let's get this party started. . ........2006-07-14
"You were drafted into a war, Terry. A war against an enemy who is nameless. Faceless. They lay low for years, spinning their webs. Makes one paranoid in time - wondering if you've dreamt it all. And then tonight happens. And you realize it isn't all a dream."
I love that. For me, that passage sums up the mood of THE FACELESS perfectly. Subtle. Secretive. It takes its time to weave its magic spell, much like Bava took his time to work his sorcery with some of his films (KILL BABY KILL being the best example of his slow-burn approach to horror). Terry is a enigma. A womanizer. A creative. Arrogant and full of bluster, it's no surprise he has at least one failed marriage behind him. But you like the guy. He's tough. He doesn't mess around and he doesn't suffer fools. And he's larger-than-life, but if twice-as-ugly, at least the ladies don't care. ("Will you be breaking my heart too, Terry?" "Most likely." "Splendid. . .")
Unanswered questions tantalize us. Who are The Faceless, and what, exactly, were the tragedies that Terry was unfortunate enough to witness which pulled him into this nightmare requiring magical protection to survive? We want to know. Peppered with Hammer Films in jokes, and a very pleasing THE DEVIL'S BRIDE vibe running thru it, I am already thrilling at how the circles of protection in basement rooms and freshly conjured marauding demons would translate to the big screen. Perhaps Terry could even meet the Duc De Richleau? Will the J&B flow freely in YELLOW? *CLINK*
Wanted: More Terry Sharp!.......2006-07-08
Robert Tinnell is indeed one of us...the lurking faceless hordes of "monster kids" who love classic horror films. That he has parlayed that love into the creation of such an engaging and original character - horror film director by day, occult adventurer by night - is a boon for anyone who loves spooky noir-ish atmosphere, historical background (in this case, Midwich Films as a stand-in for the famous Hammer studios) and hints of mind-numbing horrors just beyond the everyday facade of British civility. These hints are what make one salivate for the next Sharp adventure...that, plus the fact that the character is so much fun! Adrian Salmon's artwork is just fantastic...some of the most imaginative use of color and shadings I've seen.
Gets the GROOVY AGE OF HORROR Seal of Approval!!.......2006-01-12
I write a blog all about horror from the '60s-'70s, and I'm here to tell you that FACELESS hits the groovy nail on the head. The story is an absolute treat for Hammer fans. The look is spectacularly reminiscent of the colored-gel lighting techniques of Italian horror masters Mario Bava and Dario Argento. If, like me, you have an overlapping love of Hammer and eurotrash, you'll really be in heaven!
Tinnell knows his Hammer. He doesn't just make references or winks; he creates a whole alternate world where "Midwich Studios" cranks out schlocky cult classics like Baron Frankenstein, Return of Frankenstein, Blood of Frankenstein, and Cult of Dracula. We get stars like "Peter Lingham" selecting eyeballs from glass jars in gruesome close-up. I got so caught up in it, I started to wish there really had been a Midwich Studios, and then I had to remind myself--oh yeah, there was! Satanic cults were probably the top horror staple all through the period, so Tinnell's use of them here just ratchets up the groovy factor that much more.
Art-wise, this is Adrian Salmon's American breakout effort, and he clearly understands the stakes, because he goes for broke. I've already remarked on the eye-popping colors, which are the first thing you'll notice on a casual flip-through. Salmon's drawing is just as arrestingly stylized and non-realistic, and it suits the story to a T.
Then we get a mock retrospective article on Midwich by Mark Clark and Bryan Senn, and a mock interview with one of the actresses by Tom Weaver. The backup feature--scenes from Return of Frankenstein drawn by Neil Vokes--alone is worth the price of admission.
I just can't recommend this highly enough!
a great read.......2006-01-04
i picked up the faceless at my local comic shop and couldn't put it down. terry sharp is a old school swashbuckling type hero who you can tottaly enjoy and the story has teh right mixture of british cinema and the supernatural.i can't wait for the next one...no one will regret buying this book.

Customer Reviews:
Challenging Mazes!.......2007-07-11
Originally, I had bought Sit & Solve Mazes for my 8 year old son. He had mastered traditional mazes geared towards kids, so I thought this collection would be a challenge for him.
Well, it turns out that it's TOO challenging for him! In fact, I'm having trouble with some of them, especially the Celtic Knot-type labyrinths!
If you love mazes and would like a portable book for doing them on the fly, you'll no doubt love Sit & Solve Mazes. There are 50 challenging mazes, and the answers are provided in the back. (Half the book is mazes, the other half is the answers).
It's small enough to fit into most purses, as well as briefcases and backpacks. So if you're waiting for the bus, waiting in line, or needing to pass the time, Sit & Solve Mazes makes the time fly by.

Star Wars Collictibles in a Nut Shell.......2004-08-25
A very nice pocket size book with lots of basic information about a lot of different Star Wars collectibles (you name it, and it's probably in there). There are even lots of pictures (at least for its size). However, the prices for the action figures and trading cards (that's mostly what I collect) are often far too high. I don't remember buying or selling for such high prices either before or after this book was written. Finally, I don't think you need both this book and the larger 1999 edition by the same author. If you want small, go for this pocket edition. If you want more detail, go for the other larger edition (it actually describes every single trading card... and there are about 1000 of them). But you can't carry the larger edition around in your pocket!!!
For the Star Wars fan on the go!.......2002-04-04
Stuart Wells is an expert on this stuff. He not only writes about it, but he collects it as well. This book even offers up a chapter on the 2001 Star Wars fast food toys that were given away at Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut. Designed for the fan who attends conventions and checks off stuff as he (she) buys it.
At Last a price guide that fits in your pocket!.......2001-12-11
For those of us that actually do spend all of or weekends searching for that "Holly Grail" for our collection, this type of price guide is a fabulous idea. While it obviously isn't complete, it's slim design is perfect for bringing to that collectibles show you are going to this weekend. Plus, Wells is such an authority that he really nails it as to what is important and what can be left out (he did a much larger Star Wars guide a couple of years back--but who wants to lug that book to a show?) Having written on everything from comic books to trading cards to toys, Wells sure knows what he is doing, and how to put one of these guides together.
Handy Guide for Convention Shopping.......2001-03-19
If you are a Star Wars fan and love to collect related material, then you'll find this pocket guide very handy. It culls listings from Wells' omnibus "The Galaxy's Greatest Star Wars Collectibles Price Guide" (1999), while adding new items and categories (There is an entire section of fast food toys that is pulled from contributor Robert J. Sodaro's book "Kiddie Meal Collectibles"--to which Wells was also a contributor). The book's slim design make it ideal for slipping in your pocket while on the prowl at conventions.
Wells and Sodaro are also contributors to "Comics Values Annual 2001" (Alex Malloy).
The Star Wars Collector's Best Friend !!.......2000-09-23
This brand new, year 2000, 320 page softbound, handy 4" x 8 1/2" guide book is ideal for Stars Wars colllectibles hunting. There are more than 4,000 items in this book, with over 600 black and white, and 200 full color great pictures. The book provides a nice introduction to the collectible, and adequate information about each major heading. Topics range from Action Figures, Books, Ceramics, Clothing and Coins, to Model Kits, Paper Collectibles, Recordings, Vehicles and Wall Art. A very complete index is included to make item location easy. The item descriptions are quite complete, and the values appear to be very current and reasonable. A must for Star Wars collector's. You'll use it often.
Amazon.com
From Australian frozen treats filled with "Jedi Jelly" to AT-AT facial tissue, Star Wars completely revolutionized the way in which movies got licensed and merchandised. Some of the most unusual examples show up in this tiny book--thanks to über-collector Stephen Sansweet. Close-up photos and Sansweet's own commentary tell the story behind $2,500 Jawas and Darth Vader-Dog Chow tie-ins. An irresistible addition to any fan's desk or back pocket, this guide is guaranteed to produce more than a few gasps of "You've got to see this!" --Paul Hughes
Customer Reviews:
Okay-Okay.......2000-04-30
I found this book okay-okay. The pictures were great and the descriptions were good but the choice is not so good. I expected a little bit more from this book. Like 20 more toys wouldn't hurt.

Book Description
Taking the old adage "you are what you eat" to new perspectives, the Epicurean Tarot Recipe Cards are chock full of recipes to nourish not only your body, but also your mind and spirit. Cards may also be used for traditional tarot readings! This oversized deck is packaged in a deluxe display box.
Customer Reviews:
A Gustatory Tarot Offering.......2005-10-04
"Most cooks try to avoid reading reversed cards. With every card in an upright position, ingredients can be assembled in the order they will be used and instructions can be clearly understood." - Corrine Kenner
The Epicurean Tarot Recipe Cards is an unusual offering by Corrine Kenner, author of Tall Dark Stranger and Tarot Journaling (1/06). These cards-designed to nourish your body, mind and spirit-come in a sturdy, attractive box that stands vertically on a base.
Measuring approximately 6 ½ X 4 ½ inches, each glossy card features a Universal Waite Tarot card (approximately 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches), corresponding recipe, and amusing notation about the card as it relates to the recipe.
The 35-paged booklet that accompanies the Epicurean Tarot Recipe Cards offers several ways to use the "deck", including:
* Active meditation
* Learning the Tarot
* Preparing a magical meal
* Hosting a Tarot pot luck dinner
* Assessing lifestyle and spiritual nourishment
* Brainstorming for creating additional recipes
The companion booklet also provides traditional meanings for each of the 78 cards.
For the Major Arcana, Ms. Kenner has selected recipes inspired by the card imagery-almost as if the characters had chosen favorite recipes to share with the world. The Minor Arcana recipes reflect the essence of the four suits: Wands recipes (Fire) are spicy and hot, Cups recipes (Water) call for seafood or fresh fruit, Pentacles (Earth) recipes feature homegrown vegetables and hearty meats, while Swords (Air) recipes call for chopping, cutting, slicing, dicing, and spearing.
Some of the tempting recipes featured in the Epicurean Tarot include:
* The Fool's Caramelized Nuts
* 9 of Cups Beer-Cheese Soup
* 4 of Cups Crab Cakes
* Queen of Pentacles' Welsh Rabbit
* The Charioteer's Jerky
* The Tower's Banana Flambé
* The Moon's Lobster Bisque
* 7 of Swords Midnight Snack Dip
* King of Wands' Jabanero Salsa
* 10 of Pentacles Chicken and Dumplings
* Ace of Swordfish Baked in Parchment
Most of the recipes serve four-six people (depending on portion size), with readily available ingredients.
Epicurean Tarot Recipe Cards would likely appeal to gourmands and Tarot enthusiasts alike. Many of the recipes don't appeal to me, but there's no accounting for taste. It's evident that Ms. Kenner has put a lot of effort and thought to the gustatory correlations of Tarot imagery, meaning, and elements.
What would have made this offering even better is if it would have featured original, whimsical Tarot cards (think Housewives Tarot) rather than the Universal Tarot. For example, the cover of the box shows the Magician wielding a wooden spoon and a wire whisk; carrying this type of motif throughout the cards would have made for quite a unique experience! Still, the Epicurean Tarot reflects originality and enthusiasm-and there's nothing on the market (that I know of) that's like it.
(Note: I found two mistakes in the companion booklet. The 2 of Swords was referred to as the 2 of Cups and the King of Cups was referred to as the King of Wands.)
(To see 2 card images from the Epicurean Tarot, visit the Reviews--Decks section at JanetBoyer.com)
Tasty Tarot...........2003-07-05
The perfect gift for any Kitchen Witch! This is a fully functioning tarot deck with recipes that somehow relate to the card being represented. The deck is oversized so the cards are rather large.
I only rated this deck three stars for what one of the other reviewers touched on......the recipes. (Not the most creative or scrumptious dishes to come across your palate!) The size was also important to me....I tend to dislike oversized cards as I find them difficult to divine with, but they are the perfect size for recipes......I guess you can't have it all!
Overall, still a great gift and I recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Needs Updating.......2007-05-12
Contains some decent tips but disappointing overall. Lacks treatment of the issue of restricted funds, essential to non-profit budgeting. Does not provide insight into effective use of spreadsheet programs like Excel which are essential to budget building. Does not show modern methods for calculating overheads like the FTE system. Contains a plethora of forms that can be used in various stages of the budget building process.
To the point.......2007-03-25
The book gives you straight forward step-by-step directions for developing a budgeting process that allows you to move the key budgeting tasks down into the organization to those who will do the tasks being budgeted. You are given informative examples of the key steps in budgeting and lots of forms to adapt and use in your organization. One of the best books on budgeting I have read.
Excellent Purchase.......2007-01-04
Being a new treasurer in a newly formed non-profit organization, this book is extremely helpful in planning and executing asset management. It was recommended by the national organization's board and it is well worth the purchase purchase price.
Excellent Resource.......2006-11-07
This book has been very helpful to our fiscal staff and me. I have used it to assist our department directors prepare their budgets for the first time. It has saved me hours of work.
Budget Management .......2006-04-23
When I purchased this book I thought it might be outdated for my organization. I was wrong - this is an excellent budget WORKBOOK. The author did an excellent job in bringing the complex and problematic issues of budgeting for Nonprofit organizations and takes you step by step into the process. The book covers everything from the start of the budget to financial reporting of the budget. This book also provides numerous samples of budgets. If your a budget manager or director - this book should give a fresh new way to look at the budgeting process.
