Book Description
Focusing on cities and towns in South America the book investigates the different ways in which artists, map-makers , surveyors and military engineers represented a city in all its complexity. The author maintains that cities are both built structures and human communities and as a result their representations are rarely straightforward. Indeed one needs to regard these images in light of their particular purpose: administrative views contained topological accuracy; portrait views emphasized the relationship between a certain individual to the city in which she lived; other views drew attention to the human qualities believed to render an individual community unique. Kagan examines the interaction of European and native cartographic traditions as depicted in images of New and Old World cities and towns.

Art history made interesting and accessible........1998-10-23
This is an art history textbook written by an artist and an art teacher that will appeal to art teachers, students, and anyone interested in learning more about art history and its importance and context in our lives. Barry Nemett's style is accessible; you can feel him cajoling you into wanting to learn about art. He breaks down complicated anaylsis into easy to understand and enjoy 'stories' about art. This text reads like a suspenseful novel that uncovers the mysteries of works of art and their importance. The book is also helpful for general reference purposes. Mr. Nemett's book is both intellectual and fun. It will appeal to all ages and levels of sophistication. I have used it as a resource in art history and in studio classes for teens and adults, art students and lay people. Look for his latest book - a novel!

This book contains a wealth of information. I am new to Photography. I want to make good money and this book shows you the road. I pre ordered the 2008 edition. If you want to make money in photography, get this book!!
necessary.......2007-04-09
necessary for any serious photographer - provides plenty of ideas of where and what to submit
Provides a list, but it's not enough.......2007-03-14
This book provides a very thorough list of photo buyers and surely photographers can try and contact them by sending portfolios or cold-calling, but in my opinion, you get a lot more exposure on online stock photo agencies like shutterpoint and such. Get the buyers to come to you instead of trying to push your work to them.
The book is a useful resource for serious beginning photographers, but there are more effective ways to start your photo business and get returns on your photos right away.

Book Description
Concise, incisive and very funny! These professional-level satirical dialogs are an actor's delight. The characters are exaggerated, talking cartoons. Each short skit gets big laughs because the dialog bites, stabs and tackles with wit and insight. Simple staging and costumes. Excellent for drama competitions. Choose from fifty comedy duets. Arranged for two men, two women, one man and one woman or optional men or women. More of the best from a top comedy writer.
Customer Reviews:
Not that great.......2000-05-17
I was rather disapointed in this book. First, every single one of these "duets" contains an "announcer" character in addition to two actors. Some of the scenes require yet another person in addition to the two actors and the announcer. I didn't think the scenes were very funny--many of them consisted of two characters reviewing books, movies, or television. They provide very little challenge for actors.

A Bit Soupy, But Fun.......1998-07-03
Some of these jokes are as stale as last week's bread, but they are still pretty darn funny. This book, overall, is quite funny -- a fitting collection of some of Sales' better bits. It is charming, and not in the least vulgar, which makes most of these old bits timeless. (Admittedly, I've swiped a number of these jokes for my own personal catalogue.)

Book Description
This volume of essays constitutes a comprehensive and interdisciplinary engagement with Jean-Luc Godard's current film and video work. Its key focus is the eight-part magnum opus Histoire(s) du cinéma (1988-1998), an extraordinary experiment in film history that attempts to tell 'all the stories of cinema' whilst remaining true to the specificity of what 'the cinema alone' contributed to twentieth-century culture.
The Cinema Alone features contributors from France, Britain and America who discuss Godard's recent work both in the context of his earlier corpus and in relation to subjects such as literature, art history, philosophy, silent cinema, European culture, film theory, video and digital technology. The collection will make an important contribution to critical debates on the past, present and future of Film and Media Studies as cinema enters its second century.

Book Description
David Bird’s bestselling 52 Great Bridge Tips was based on the proven principle that knowledge is easiest to digest when it comes in bite-size morsels. Now he’s back with another feast of wisdom for players of all levels. A noted writer of fiction as well as a leading bridge authority, Bird uses his wit and narrative skill along with an encyclopedic knowledge of the game to explain such winning concepts as: “Hold on to the ace of trumps,” “Lead a low card on the first round,” and “Block the defenders’ suit.” Each of the tips is illustrated with a cleverly designed hand.
Customer Reviews:
Yet, another winner from David Bird.......2007-01-28
This is the third of a series of bridge tips from David Bird. Each of these books contain 52 "tips." Unlike many tips books, each tip has an expanded explanation and several examples. The tips are very practical and useful. Most tips are unique. I have not encountered them elsewhere. David Bird is a prolific and fabulous writer of bidge books. I recommend all of his books on bridge technique.
Book Description
When should you open light? How can you decide whether to bid six no trump or six of a suit? How can you prevent the defense from promoting an extra trump trick? How can you survive a bad trump break? What sort of false card is most likely to mislead a defender? You'll find all the answers here, from David Bird, one of the world's leading bridge writers. In his usual clear and entertaining style, he explains how to tackle dozens of situations often mishandled by the average player.
Customer Reviews:

There’s also a host of surefire feints and bluffs, and creative ways to use elimination play to force defenders to open a new suit. Branded Customer Service breaks new ground with an assertion that brand equity is built not just through advertising and public relations, but also through the human exchange of customer service. Customer relations experts Janelle Barlow and Paul Stewart have a passion for branding and explain in practical terms how to take a defined, recognizable brand position and then make it live through delivery of service. Challenges to consistency are discussed, as well as the internal promotion of brands, the reinforcement of brands through staff and customer interactions, and how to link brands to selling styles and messages.
Customer Reviews:
The authors got it right.......2007-05-16
Janelle Barlow and Paul Stewart got it right. Having spent my entire 30 year professional career in the services industry it was clear the book was based not only on comprehensive research but also on practical experience. Their theories and advice can and should be applied in organizations of all sizes.
The book is entertaining and convincing. The reader will be able to relate to the real life examples the authors describe. They explain in easy to understand detail how to brand your organization from the inside out, effectively defining your organizational DNA. In addition, I have seen their advice work in numerous organizations. Implementing their processes is the equivalent of a Super Bowl ad.
Branded Customer Service is not only the best brand development book I have read, it is also the best business book I have read.
A "must-read" especially for business executives.......2007-01-06
Written by chief executives Janelle Barlow and Paul Stewart, Branded Customer Service: The New Competitive Edge is a no-nonsense guide filled with strategies, exercises, and real-world examples to teach the reader how to harness the power of branded customer service. Unbranded customer service can potentially harm one's business, even when it is of good quality; branded customer service helps foster repeat business and word-of-mouth referral, among its many other advantages. Chapters discuss how to link the world of branding to one's customer service, how to embed on-brand service into the DNA of one's organization, tips, tricks, and techniques for supporting one's brand from within, and much more. Accessible to readers of all backgrounds, Branded Customer Service is a "must-read" especially for business executives, marketers, and even small business owners with the power and need to foster lasting improvements in this dimension of their chosen enterprise.
Clear and useful!.......2006-02-07
The authors are really clear on the differences between "generic customer service" and "branded customer service". You still get the impression that it would be difficult to apply in certain areas / industries, but it is important to take a look at what should everyone do in order to continuously support your brand promise. Worth a read!
Four Words: Go Buy This Book!.......2005-03-16
I have been working on a branded customer service project for a few years now, and was looking for some research or reference material when I came across this book - it was like I found my "tribe"!
The authors do a brilliant job defining the concept of branded service, and offer great tools and ideas that you can use to start getting your organization "on-brand." It's easy and fun to read with real-life examples of what it's like to experience on-brand and off-brand service.
If you believe that branding only belongs in the advertising or marking department - think again. It's the job of the entire organization to not only represent your brand, but to also make it come alive!
Once you read this book you will never be able to look at an organization or service experience again without thinking... hmmm...was that off/on brand or what!
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is working in this field, or thinking about how to gain a real competitive advantage for their organization.
The missing link.......2005-03-08
Branding has been inside the marketing thinking pattern for so long that this refreshing look, coming from an innovative perspective, gives the reader an insight on the true meaning of a brand. Like every other dimension of your company, it's your people who will make it or breake it. Barlow and Stewart guide us through new models for (re)thinking and developing a brand. Having employees with "on-brand" behavior should be the main concern of every company. Read this book to learn how you can achieve it.
