A Real Glimpse of War.......2000-05-20

I first became a Howard Brodie fan after seeing several of his WW II drawings along the walls of the Pentagon. I then started research on him and found several issues of Yank with his work. Finding this book was the ultimate. It is a "must" for anyone who wants to get a true feel of the troops on the ground in war.

This book is marginal in content, has few new or exciting ideas, and is smaller than the books American photographers are used to seeing from Amherst and some of the other publishers.

This was going to be the first book I ever returned to Amazon but before I could send it back I misplaced it somewhere...and its no loss.

Not very good, a few nice hands.......2006-07-11

There are a few interesting hands (hand 1).
But there are many hands where the bidding is left out, or the card play is not clearly listed and its hard to follow and count.

Some of the hands are just lucky or unlucky and not really worth studying.

The book spends a fair amount of time on many of the top Indian players. This is probably of interest to Indian readers, but was not interesting to me. (I also don't care to read that much about players from my country, I want to read about Bridge).

Its an advanced book because there are quite a few squeeze plays involved.

All in all, I found the card play difficult to follow, many of the hands not worth including, and too much time wasted on non card playing subjects.
There are so many better books out there than this one.

This is a great book! Lloyd Baird and John Henderson has drawn from their years of research in-sights in dealing with practical and real life issues in knowledge space. Concepts and anecdotes are interwoven in a meaningful way that I as a reader found easy to read and comprehend.
