I wish I would have read the reviews before buying this book. At least I got it used. This book is almost devoid of actual tutorials and hands-on learning. The first few chapters have some instruction, but the majority of the book reads like a compilation of resumes with stunning imagery. There are lots of pictures and in-depth biographies of industry professionals with very little tips on how to create the images included. If you are a new user looking to expand your skills this is not the book for you. If you are an industry professional looking to hire a skilled artist, this may be what you're looking for. I regret buying this book.

I flipped through the book and saw some nice imagry and thought it might have some good tutorials on the CD-ROM. Was I wrong, this book teaches nothing...it informs the reader of how cool it is to combine Photoshop and Maya and stops right there. I don't know how this book was published with maya on the title.

I am used to buy a lot of good books from Amazon, but this time I had bought this book without waiting for other opinion about, so I think I have to inform that this book is really useless if you are looking for ideas or tutorial regarding integration between the two programs. Really a basic level targeted book, with nothing useful for intermediate/advanced users.

Not happy.......2004-07-29

I really thought this book would show techniques in using both programs. There is pretty much only two tutorials (Chapter 2 and 3) throughout the book. The rest of the 8 chapters shows case studies and gives long bios of the people that created the work. If you are looking to really learn hands on techniques this is not the book. The CD is horrible, there are only two chapter folders that have scene files. The CD also contains a corny little quicktime movie of Alanis Morisette's video. Get the book used if you must have it.

Donald Duck's at it again........2002-07-10

This was an okay comic album with two donald duck stories in it. In the first story Donald gets pierced by the thorn from an old Voodoo doll and is followed by a zombie from Africa. After getting new information from his Uncle Scrooge, Donald and his three nephews travel to Africa so they may be able to find the chief of a remote village and reverse Donald's curse so he doesn't shrink. In the second story Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge and their nephews search for treasure in a recently purchased castle in Scotland.

I always enjoy Books as these they are fun for cook-Outs&things where you can ask questions&things on different Musical Artists.it covers a Wide Range.it truly has a Family Affari Vibe at how it covers so many different time periods but yet combines&brings them as one.

This book is the BOMB!.......2002-06-15

I heard these guys on the radio and saw them on TV talking about this book and they seemed real interesting and knowledgeable about music. The book proves it. It's full of tons of trivia questions about hiphop and r&b, but the best part is the funny and informative lists they have, like Top 5 Posse Records and Top 5 Blue-Eyed Soul records. I don't agree with their choice for the best Duet ("The Closer I Get To You" by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack). I would have picked Donny and Roberta's "I Who Have Nothing". But anyway they got some good choices all over the book. You'll enjoy this book if you love music and you love trivia. It's like a hiphop version of "Jeopardy."

This book is an awesome example of fun and education working in tangient. I would highly recommend What's Your Hi-Fi Q ? for summer outings as well as a tool for black music education. Scott and Smokey has done a phenomenal job in using their expertise of black music to create an outstanding product. It's definitely a book I would want to have if I were even remotely interested in black music history.

Intelligent and fun!.......2002-05-29

I love trivia books, especially whent he authors actually know more than I do about the subject area. Scott and Smokey are journalists and music lovers. I used the book at a BBQ I had and everyone from my niece to my mother-in-law got into the action. People were singing hooks to remember answers and recalling where they were when a specific song was playing. I think I have found a great Christmas gift too! I can't wait until the second edition comes out. Where's the boardgame?

Max Lenderman does a good job of illustating the sea change that is taking in the advertising world. His knowledge of the principles of The Experience Economy are sound and he uses them effectively to make his case.

Some good points, too repetitive.......2006-02-22

Overall, this is a decent book that makes some great points. The book, however, is extremely repetitive and can become tedious at times as the author cites the same examples and ideas over and over (how many Tivo owners skip the commercials?).

To put it another way, this book would be perfect if it were about 100 pages shorter. Another book that covers much of the same material without the repetition is Brand Hijack. I recommend reading that one instead.

Not Your Average Marketing Book! Great stuff. .......2006-01-12

I bought this book after seeing author Max Lenderman on TV talking about selling toilet paper to hipster rock fans and I'm glad I did... I got so many good ideas from this book and I have been using it to help think of new strategies for my own business. I went to see Max speak at a bookstore recently and he is actually a very nice, down to earth young guy with a great future... there are so many bad marketing books out there, but this one was right on the money and fun to read.
