The Photographer's Business Bible.......2007-03-12
If Your the type of photographer who just wants to shoot nice photos this book may not be for you. But if your trying to start a business as a photographer you may want to strap yourself in. I find that ASMP Professional Business Practices in photography: Sixth Edition is the perfect book to get photographers started in addition to lerning how to run a photo Business in the real world. Some of the contents reenforced what I already knew while other contents helped me with some of my weak points. ASMP Professional Business Practices in photography covers a large specturem of different types of photography and I will no doubt refer to the book in the future.
Sometimes young adults will tell me that they want to become photographers and I just tell them to major in business and minor photography, But if you missed that boat this book is the next best thing.
A must read.......2007-01-03
This book is filled with important information that will help prepare any photographer looking to run their own business. It is a must read since it familiarizes you with the standard forms, and ways of conducting relationships with your clients.
Photographers!!!.......2006-03-22
Every photographer wanting to become pro should get this book! :) For a photography book....it lacks nice pretty pictures. It's mainly just plain text, but good info.
A Camel.......2005-07-16
Amongst professional photographers it's almost an axiom that they knew little about the business end of photography when they started taking pictures for a living. This book aims at remedying that condition. It has chapters on assignment and stock photography; pricing and estimating; negotiating fees and agreements; rights and value; formalizing agreements; copyright; electronic technology, business and marketing strategies; book publishing; and professional services. Unfortunately, like a camel, which is a horse built by a committee, this book varies widely in its usefulness for the business of photography. Among other reasons, this is because the chapters, and sometimes parts of chapters, are written by different authors, so that the work is not integrated and some important business areas are omitted.
The first two chapters which deal generally with the nature of stock photography versus assignment photography are quite good and will be helpful to anyone making the transition from one type to another.
Some chapters are first rate. The chapter on pricing and estimating takes an economic approach rather then asking, "what are my competitors charging?" It asks the question what price does the photographer need to establish in order to support himself and his business. Unfortunately, the book is not blunt enough to say that, if you don't expect to get the resulting price, you shouldn't be in the market.
At the other end of the scale is the chapter on marketing. Apparently six different authors each contributed their own uncoordinated efforts. There's some good advice here, but my litmus test was whether the book contained some discussion of how a fine arts photographer finds and approaches galleries. There wasn't much help here.
One area that many photographers encounter trouble with is keeping the books and paying income taxes. Unfortunately there were no references to these subjects. Even if all the book did were refer to a basic text or software, like Quicken or Quick Books and Turbo Tax, which were readily available at the time of publication, it would have been helpful.
This book is a useful guide for the professional photographer to keep on his shelf for a quick answer to many questions he may encounter in business. But for detailed answers, professional photographers will require more help in running their business.
Great Stuff!.......2002-04-19
For anyone in the business or especially getting into it, this is a must have book. Very valuable!

I learned to read these comics when I was a kid. Maybe not these episodes, but later ones. I am grateful that these collections were made. I hope to share them one day with my grandkids.

Yes, they had sex in the 50's.......2007-06-07
Super cute cartoon book about married life in the 50's! There is some text, but mostly it's single panel cartoons, like in the New Yorker. Covers married life and family, including sex. A classic cartoonist. Highly recommended.

RODNEY RULES!.......2000-09-25
I always figured that Dr. Pearson knew his sex. I have read all of his COBOL and Java handouts, but they were nothing compared to this book. Maybe he needs to add a Section 69 to his COBOL manual for class!
Pearson is da man!.......1999-03-05
I'm not surprised to see such a powerful book written by Dr. Pearson. I've read his COBOL and Advanced Language course packets, and they were terrific, so I am not shocked.
The book really help me to undrestand my husbands needs........1999-02-17
I learned to listen to what he was saying, rather than responding too fast, and not really hearing what he said. Miscummunication, can damage any relationship. So if your trying to build a better relationship, I know this book's for you. 20 1/2 Ways To Please Your Lover is for any relationship.
This book makes love easy!.......1999-01-13
I highly recommend 20 1/2 Ways to Please Your Lover. This is one of the best relationship books I have ever read! Dr. Rodney Pearson is so careful to deal with the things that really count in building a healthy relationship. Single people or married people can benefit from reading this one. It is well written and gives step by step instruction on how to develope yourself and your relationships. Bravo to Dr. Pearson! I am so proud to hear a man that is so romantic and positive about relationships. The dedication at the front of the book to his wife by itself will bring tears to your eyes. This book makes love so easy! It deal with things like conflict management and forgiveness. The chapter on having good sex is so simple but I loved it! This is an easy read but it has deep meaning. I really liked the fact that I could read it with my husband. We both got a lot out of it when we read it together and talked about it. The checker at the book store could't belive that I bought 5 of them. I gave them away to friends for Christmas! Now that Valentine's Day is coming around I'm going to buy through Amazon.com so I can get a discount. Thanks to Dr. Pearson for such a good book. Everyone should buy it!

Book Description
The recent international success of films such as Central Station and City of God has stimulated widespread interest in Brazilian film. This study provides insight into the Brazilian films that have most captured the imagination of domestic audiences over the years. This book focuses on individual films in their socio-historical context, drawing on extensive fieldwork in Brazil and Latin America. It argues that Brazilian cinema has almost always been grounded in intrinsically home-grown cultural forms dating back to the nineteenth century, including the Brazilian music hall, the traveling circus, radio shows, carnival, and, later, comedy television. Combining a chronological structure with new research and a lively approach, Popular cinema in Brazil is the ideal introduction to Brazilian cinema.

Expert advice on playing these popular games.
Customer Reviews:
caribbean stud & let it ride.......2001-02-18
gives and overview of the rules of the games in excrutiating detail. Nothing to do with strategy. The book is a waste of time for anyone who knows the basics of poker. Only one small reference to actual gaming odds of various poker hands. SUMMARY: If you have a pair of tens or better in Let it Ride you should stay. If you get a pair or ace-king in certian situations in Caribbean Stud you should stay.
Must buy.......2000-04-14
This is a must read. It is very informative and useful for novices and expert alike. It includes easy to read charts and strategies that actually work.
Excellent!.......2000-02-12
Beyond a doubt, this is the best book available on these two games. It is tightly written, packed with info on everthing from odds and vigorish to playing strategy and winning methods. I've read a few other books on these games before, and I've been playing them for a few years now, but this book has more info than any I've read, and the strategies are the best I've seen. I've already won more money than I ever have before! Thank you Mr. Vogel!
An excellent book!.......2000-01-07
If you think you know everything that there is to know about Caribbean Stud or Let it Ride, then guess again. It always seemed like such an easy game, but I continued to lose anyway. Now I not only know what I was doing wrong, but I know what hands I have to play, when to fold, and exactly when to let my bets ride. I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone, even if you think you know how to play! He examines the rules, proper strategies, odds and probabilities, betting techniques, and everthing else you need to know.
If you are serious about finally winning at these games, BUY THIS BOOK!

Top Harvard professors offer a revealing, research-based look at the true nature of professional success
Just Enough introduces a revolutionary new definition of success. Written by two veteran authors from Harvard Business School, and based on extensive research that includes interviews with hundreds of professionals, Just Enough explores why true satisfaction seems more elusive all the time. The authors show where exceptionally successful people focus their energy and why-helping readers to not only understand success, but to achieve it.
Laura Nash (Cambridge, MA) is Senior Research Fellow at Harvard University Business School. She is the author of Good Intentions Aside and Church on Sunday, Work on Monday.
Howard Stevenson (Cambridge, MA) is Sarofim-Rock Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate for External Relations at Harvard University Business School.
Customer Reviews:
When is "just enough" enough?.......2005-12-27
Everyone wants to succeed. But in a world where corporate CEOs carve out multimillion dollar contracts and Britney Spears is front-page news, society's view of success is entirely skewed. Authors and Harvard faculty members Laura Nash and Howard Stevenson take a hard look at idealized celebrity success and adopt a view that is the opposite of the popular attitude that promotes going for the maximum. Instead, they advocate learning how to be satisfied with "just enough." Through careful self-examination and structured fulfillment exercises, the authors explain how to obtain success in four main areas of your personal and professional life: happiness, achievement, satisfaction and legacy. Ironically, for a book titled `Just Enough,' it supplies way too much verbiage and analysis. But we find the topic timely and well researched. Those who are striving for balance and just the right amount of success will find this self-help book extremely useful, although those who deeply want it all may be tougher to dissuade.
I've had enough.......2005-08-29
I don't know. I want to like this book. But it is just so long-winded! The brief stories about how others have found balance are inspiring, but are few and far between. Their concept is good, compelling, even motivating, yet it is overwhelmed by gads of unnecessary and distracting jabs at people who base their success on the "wrong" things (aren't these folks their audience?), as well as at the media for touting these people as successes. Skim it at the bookstore -- you'll get the overall (good) idea without wading through hours of self-grandizing text.
Wonderful message for the modern business people.......2005-06-11
Nash and Stevenson suggest us a nice wisdom that all of us can apply in our lives. Especially, this book reminds us how to balance our lives between materialistic value and eternal legacies. As a current MBA student, I recommend this book to all other MBA students who want to balance their lives.
A realistic metaphor for enduring success.......2005-04-26
Even as we are constantly being pulled in several directions due to competing responsibilities, we all struggle to achieve balance in our lives. Some people seek quiet time to keep things in perspective- they read spiritual books, some meditate while others engage in an enduring hobby- there is a sense that we need to do something more than just our daily jobs in the best possible way or earning the highest possible bonus!
This book acknowledges the challenges of everyday life- about conventional notions of success in terms of achievement and money and seeks to suggest a way- a lens to help us navigate through our struggles at different stages of our lives. The kaleidescope is a very realistic metaphor to look at different responsibilities we have at different times not as competing but in some way complementing each other to add to the richness of our experience. The authors contend that enduring success is all about keeping four levers in balance- happiness, achievement, significance and legacy. Too often, we concentrate only on the first two and find our success having a 'hollow' ring to it!
After a long time, I have come across a book that is not overtly 'preachy' but addresses the challenges of everyday life in a pragmatic manner. Good work!
"Just Enough" is more than enough............2004-07-14
"Just Enough" is more than enough: A turgid, pretentious, strident, and wholly unoriginal piece of work. Its framework neither breaks any new ground in the study of the sociology of business or organization behavior, nor is it a particularly useful addition to the realm of self-help pop-business literature. At best, this might have been a reasonable ten page article in the Harvard Business Review, but surely not enough material for 280 pages! Better to read "Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow : Discovering Your Right Livelihood," by MARSHA SINETAR, and call it a day.
