Reads like a high school book report.......2003-10-10
The author is a high school teacher and the book reads as if it were aimed at that audience. The tone of the book is casual and the contents are merely a general overview of the topic. I would have liked to see more in-depth treatment of the articles of clothing discussed, particularly the cut and construction. Most of the book discusses women's clothing; menswear and childrens clothing are mentioned only briefly. There are a few black-and-white photos and line drawings, but they do not clearly show how the clothing is assembled or put on. The book includes a few pages describing fabrics of the era, and a few pages of quotes from pioneer journals.
I would only recommend this book to young readers as an introduction to clothing and lifestyle of the pioneers, there is a bibliography at the end that invites further reading. This is not, however, a title for the serious costumer, and even a re-enactor would be hard pressed to find anything practically useful concerning the wearing of reproduction clothing.

Bio Booster Armor Guyver Dark Masters.......2000-03-24
Bio Booster Armor Guyver Dark Masters contains a gripping storyline and awesome graphics. One of the best books by Yoshiki Takaya I know. It coincides with the rest of the Graphic Novels. Namely the first two before it, Bio Booster Armor Guyver and Bio Booster Armor Guyver Revenge of Chronos. Which are both incredible as well. If anyone wants to see a classic Japanesse Graphic Novel with a great story and art. I would suggest Bio Booster Armor Guyver to everyone.
Amazon.com
The live-action film version of Guyver that starred Mark Hamill wasn't nearly as entertaining as this Vizgraphic novel. The Guyver is an alien life form that adopts the body of a high school student, thereby giving him a "wicked awesome bio-boostin' armor look!" Read this comic and find out why people have so much fun reading Japanese comics, especially when the book's six chapters are titled "Awesome!," "Mysterious!," "Risky!," "Volatile!," "Tragic!," and "Destructive!"
Customer Reviews:
Guyver, up to volume 22 now in Japan.......2005-02-23
Everyone I know who read Guyver got hooked. In Japan, the Guyver mange series has been going for 20 years and is up to volume 22. It's ashamed that Viz only published up to volume 7. No wonder people are selling Guyver synopsis in English on ebay.
The Guyver is THE best manga/anime series ever.......1999-05-09
Ever since the first issue of the Viz translation came out, I've been hooked on this series. The art and story are both amazing. The plot is surprising and dramatic. Anybody who's a fan of this series should also check out the anime series, which is pretty close to the manga plot, except it introduces characters a bit faster, and it doesn't run as long (I think). Also, the Guyver series is still going on in Japan. I think that it's on issue 80 or something now, and it shows no signs of stopping. Please Viz, bring us the rest of this story!
virtually breathing (and panting) story........1999-03-19
So the introduction has been said by others. All I want to say is that Guyver with all the characters has its own life. The personalities and their struggle for survival make it breath. The emotional part of the boy was most apparent when he killed his own dad and afterwards failed to transform because he felt guilty. But then, he was only defending himself and the creature Enzyme II (his dad) was under complete control of a commander. His brain was not malfunctioning and the guyver suit simply took control and defended him without regard to human emotion. The whole story got me really stuck into it. It's just that the pusblisher tend to print it once in 3 to 4 months here(Malaysia). My manga collection is only up to when guyver I and guyver III were inside the living spaceship and trying to evacuate the people who were against Chronos( they were professionals forced to work for Chronos). The underground center was collapsing and everything was burning to pieces. I simply can't wait for the next episode. You will too when you got started.
The start to a story that's bigger than life.......1998-10-12
I didn't read the first "Bio-Booster Armour Guyver" graphic novel expecting to get hooked. Actually, the first time I laid eyes on the series of books, I merely flipped through a few pages in the last volume ("Armageddon"), found that I couldn't make sense out of the dialogue, and then thought little more about it. Until, that is, I came across the very first book, and started reading it in the store. I didn't buy it, I just read it. But I bought the next volume, figuring that I'd just continue along. I didn't need the first book, if I had already read it, right? Well, I found that the second book just didn't seem right without the first one, so I bought the first one. Now, I have six out of the 7 published graphic novels, and I'm looking for the last one.
In the storyline, we are introduced to Sho, a high school student who accidentally activates a top-secret bio-boosting device called the G-Unit. This unit used to be in the hands of a ultra-secret organization called Chronos, and they want the unit back because it is the only thing that stand in the way of world domination. By activating it, Sho becomes bonded with the unit, which is actually the Guyver suit. Chronos quickly pursues Sho and his friends Tetsuro and Mizuki. If you buy this book, let me warn you..you might find yourself heading back to the bookstore for more!
Unfortunately, the publisher hasn't printed all of the volumes of the Guyver Comic books because of a lack of interest. But, if more people could see what this storyline is all about, I think that the demand would be far greater!
Absoloutely awsome! Super-Heros don't get better than this!.......1998-07-13
The Guyver is the best super-hero I've ever seen! Evil doesn't stand a chance as long as the Guyver's around!
Customer Reviews:
The Hyper-Zoanoids can whoop some serious ass!!.......1998-07-15
This is the fight of the century!!! If the Guyver can take this much punishment and walk away, he is THE super-hero! If you liked "Akira" you'll love this!!

There should be a law against publishers.......1999-10-28
To force them to publish a full serie only ! I've been waiting for a LONG LONG time for the remaining volumes but they don't seem to ever come out or even be announced on the VIZ web-site.
THE GUYVER IS BETTER THAN SUPERMAN OR BATMAN.......1999-08-06
I HAVE THE GUYVER SERIES 1 TO 11. I THINK THAT IT'S THE BEST SHOW IN THE WORLD AND I HOPE TO GET MORE OF THE SERIES. KEEP THE GOOD WORK GUYS. IT'S AN ON YOUR TOES ACTION TO THE END; AND THERE RIGHT HIS BATTLE IS FAR FROM OVER.
GUYVER ROCKS.......1999-04-01
THE GUYVER IS MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The graphic novel is great, one of the best in the series........1999-03-15
This is a fantastic episode of the Guyver series. A series which still has many episodes to come which should be printed in this country. BRING GUYVER BACK THE BATTLE'S NOT FINISHED. By Jake Shone
A Worthy Finale.......1999-01-26
The Guyver series is always exciting, and this one is no exception. With great artwork, a great story, and enough double crosses and violence to fill an entire episode of the X-Files, this is a worthy finale to the Guyver series. And, yes, it is the final volume. The ending will blow you away.

Book Description
Born and raised in Brooklyn with a street fighter’s instinct and sharp Jewish wit, Mickey Knox leaves the army for the bright lights of Hollywood. But when the rise of McCarthyism puts an abrupt end to his hopes of working in American films, Knox debarks to France and Italy to work in European cinema. It turns out to be the best move of his life. This book—where every major film actor and writer of the last century appears—is a wonderful, gossipy history of European cinema as seen through the observant eye of Knox. From arguing with John Wayne, teaching Anna Magnani to articulate English, to fending off Zsa Zsa Gabor’s advances and getting lost in Italy with a hungry Orson Welles, Knox was in the midst of it all, watching with a dry smile and a witty comeback. Of the colorful cast of characters who have passed through his life—Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, Anthony Quinn, Henry Fonda, Burt Reynolds, Sam Fuller, Elvis Presley, Gore Vidal—one lasting friendship runs throughout the text. That friend—Norman Mailer—writes a preface to “a rare warrior of that rarely heroic world of stage and screen.” Black-and-white photographs are included.
Customer Reviews:
fun read of roaring sixties italy.......2005-08-04
I got this book from my local library while looking for material on spaghetti westerns, after listening to NPR's interview with Christopher Frayling, and accidentally stumbled on this title. Having lived in italy for 17 years, in the same city where the author lived, and having shared time and space with other expats, I was particularly interested in his stories that occurred in Rome, Italy (I didn't go to the Cassia area often or the Overseas School of Rome, so I probably never played with the author's daughters, but did some dubbing at FonoRoma, so who knows, we might have crossed paths).
I enjoyed the terse pace ("she moved out with the children. Divorce number three"). This memoir could have been three times bigger, but maybe it is better this way. It got straight to the point. Typical Brooklyn jewish style. That's good.
As for the spaghetti westerns, I really enjoyed the description of the back-and-forth, push-and-pull, not-this-but-this events of daily life in the production of a film.
His description of his forays into film production italian-style reminds me of american musicians getting gigs in italy in the 70's, maybe getting paid or maybe not. In some ways, this book is the cinema version of what was going on in the music world.
A nice style in his writing is the back-flashbacks or the references to the future (30 years forward), all seeded in a thick webbing of the story.
A page turner, stayed awake into the night to finish it, and done with the last page, all I had in mind is: a good life, packed enough to talk about.
Delightful and "insidery".......2005-01-04
I don't usually write reviews unless I am "blown away", or if I feel that the book is being unfairly ignored. In this case the latter is true...I found the book delightful, yes, a bit gossipy, but in a good way, there is no slander here. The anecdotes are charming ;this is a series of tales , of snapshots of an off-beat Hollywood life well lived.Unlike many other high profile memoirists of late, the narrator, although not lacking in self-esteem by any means- seems to have a realistic view of his own importance in the scheme of things.I appreciate that.I also found some of the glimpses of interactions with well known celebrities very insightful and telling -more sincere than I expected, sometimes it's better when the tales are told my someone in a less intimate position, the stories are told with less varnish.
Simply, I enjoyed the book ; anyone with an interest in movie making , Italy filmaking or 20th century Hollywood should
find something to appreciate in Mickey Knox's stories.

Book Description
Charles Burney (1726-1814) was one of the foremost music historians of the Enlightenment, a friend of David Garrick, correspondent of Diderot and Rousseau, a champion of Haydn, and a member of the Royal Society. The frequency with which he is still quoted by musicologists and historians attests to the continuing relevance and importance of his work.
After completing his monumental General History of Music (1776-89), Burney began to write a projected twelve-volume autobiography, a taska he abandoned in 1805. When he died nearly a decade later, his daughter, the novelist Fanny Burney, edited the manuscript but destroyed much of it before publishing her own bowdlerized Memoirs of Dr. Burney in 1832. Not until the 1950s did fragments of the original memoirs, long believed lost, come to light. This edition reconstructs the fragments from Burney's first volume, free of Fanny Burney's interpolations and alterations. The resulting text is here published for the first time.
The restored and uncensored Memoirs of Dr. Charles Burney covers his life from 1726 to 1769, illuminating his early career and the musical and theatrical life of London and the provinces in the mid-eighteenth century. The editors have skillfully bridged the fragments with material from other sources, including Burney's later letters. Their annotations, drawn in part from the articles on music that Burney wrote while he was working on his memoirs, reveal many new details about his world.
Customer Reviews:
Saturday mornings of pleasure.......2000-10-07
The first nottice I had about Burney's book was in a radio program in a spanish station exclusively devoted to classical music. This program was emited on saturday's morning about ten years ago and, during several weeks, all the text as well as music of that time was its content. I remember that in those days I was working in a photographic project and it was a true delight to be developing my pictures listening those wondering memories and music. Now, many years after, I,ve found the book again and I'll try to retake all those sensations.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent info, but lacks some details.......2004-07-18
Make Money With Fixer-Uppers and Renovations is a creative book. It criticizes the flipping books Buy It! Fix It! Sell It! Profit! and Flipping Properties by saying they limit your thinking by telling you that the only type of properties you can get are run-down, traditional junker properties. Eldred challenges that notion by saying that the right house can be a house that feels only like a house, and not a home. He differentiates between a house and a home by saying that a house can shelter you, but doesn't excite you or move you in any way. A home is just like it sounds: a place you call home. By fixing up properties so that they feel like a home, you stand to make more money than by just fixing it up.
The book contains some very good stories and information on fixing up properties, and the information Eldred gives is well worth the price. But the information lacks real meat on how to do any of the things he's suggesting. It's like any other $19.95 book on real estate investing: you get what you pay for, and sometimes his suggestions lack detail, or feel like "top of the waves" type of techniques. If there were an upsell, you might get some kind of procedure on exactly how to invoke your local ordinances, add to neighborhood convenience, or convince a reporter to play up the neighborhood's potential for turnaround.
He also winds up providing a formula for profit in the rehab business that walks and talks a lot like the Buy It! Fix It! Sell It! Profit! formula (a book he criticizes). Apparently the formula is sound, but he believes the buying price will rarely be 60 cents on the dollar. A fair belief, but you may be able to buy it at that price; I leave it up to the investor to make that choice. (In other words, read both books and make your own decision :) ).
Despite these limitations, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. I recommend it to real estate investors who would like to expand their thinking on potential fixer-uppers.
Fantastic idea generator.......2003-10-13
As a veteran rehabber, I do not expect much that's new from most "fixer" books. But this one pleasantly surprised me. It opened my eyes to the fact that I had not come close to maxing out profits from my properties. The chapter on marketing also weighs in as solid gold. I can see why my FSBO efforts have not paid off like I thought they would. Now I know how to really sell faster and at a higher price--without paying a commission! My guess is that whether your a newbie or pro, this book will definitely guide you to make more money( or collect more rents if you choose to hold--which I do not).
