Plenty of content.......2007-04-24
This is much better book than the second In Style book. There are detailed tips on how to look for the best fit and what shapes flatter which body style. I was hoping to see more pictures of actual clothes so that's the reason for four stars.

Great Reference Book! .......2007-03-21
I have purchased other style books in the past, but this is one of the most useful because it breaks down body types and what looks best. My goal was the dress sexier and more feminine and this books has taught me what types of tops and bottoms to achieve that look. Now that I stick to the rules of thumb they provided, I am more comfortable with wearing whatever I pull out of my closet because I know it will fit great and be stylish.

This is the best book on clothing and style I've ever read. It's a must have! This book will save money for anyone following the advise given.
Not really a "style" book.......2006-09-30
This book is good for explaining which shapes of clothes look good on which figures, how clothes should fit, and how to tie a scarf. While that is helpful, I was expecting to learn some "secrets of style" as the title claims. Some tips on finding a style that corresponds with your personality or lifestyle, how to make it your own, shop for it, and keep it updated...that's what I thought I was buying. Too bad.

Now this is what I read comics for!
The sixties Atom run has long been a cult-favorite of sorts. The series started out great, but petered out as the sixties revival matured and lost it's initial growth spurt. The Kane-Anderson art has always been this book's selling point, but don't discount the stories of Gardner Fox. These tales are actually a bit different than most of Fox's other writing because he's clearly working his scripts to take advantage of Gil Kane's amazing ability to show the world from the Atom's six-inch perspective. Thus, we get things like the Atom trapped inside a light bulb or the Atom strapped to a hand grenade. Things like that are great fun! Of course, all this shows the blatant hand of silver-age genius/guru Julie Schwartz, especially on the covers.
On the subject of Kane and Anderson, it must be noted that they draw a very attractive Jean Loring as well. Why can't I ever meet a girl like that? In later stories, Murphy Anderson leaves the book and is replaced by the capable Sid Greene. Though a legendary inker in his own right, the magic was not quite the same as before. I think that if Kane and Anderson had stayed together on the Atom, the book would have remained a top seller.
For me, the highlight of this second Atom Archives volume was issue # 7, which featured a guest-appearance by Hawkman. It seemed like an odd pairing, but when you think about it, why not? The new Atom and new Hawkman both debuted around the same time, and DC had already successfully made pals of the new Green Lantern and new Flash. It made sense to see if lightning could strike again. The two had enough chemistry that their books were later "merged" into one title, when sales of each solo book began to wane. The Atom-Hawkman friendship started in that story remains strong even today.

Great coverage of the huge variety of poker games available.......2005-02-15
I got this book hoping to add a little spice into our home game. Many of the people I play with (and me) stick to Texas Hold 'em for the most part, but fondly remember the days when "Chase the Queen" and "Iron Cross" built huge pots and made a home game really different from what you get in the Casino. I was really impressed with the coverage this book provides. Pretty much every aspect of the home game is there, and there are more varieties of poker outlined here than we'll ever get to in our game - there's just not enough time!
The first sections of "Poker Night" discuss many of the things that need to be considered before hosting a game. What kind of atmosphere are you going for? What sort of house rules should you establish? How do you handle the player who wins a huge hand and then wants to leave right away? "Poker Night" helps you prepare a sound set of house rules to make sure the game runs smoothly.
The real meat of the book covers every variation of poker I've ever heard of and many more. The publisher's outline above will give you an idea of what's there, and each is covered very well. Essentially the rules of each type of poker are covered in brief, and then they give a thorough breakdown of how each variety of them work. So, in the Stud section they cover the classic "Chase the Queen", and in the Community section they cover my favorite, "Iron Cross", but if you've wanted to know how to play "Baseball", "H-Bomb", or too many others to mention, chances are they're in here.
The section on Hold'em provides a good overview of the game, and provides some good information about the value of the various starting hands, and the strategy included would be very helpful for people just getting into the game or who are interested in taking control of their current home game. The final section includes some interesting notes about how casino poker games like Let It Ride and Caribbean Stud can be adjusted for home game play.
Overall, a really good overview of the wide variety of poker games played in living rooms around the world. "Poker Night" will definitely add something to anyone's game that's gotten a little too predictable.

Roadmap to a Deal.......2007-08-20
Al Auger has written an excellent guide to putting together profitable commercial real estate transactions. I've put together commercial projects for fifteen+ years and still greatly benefited from the books ideas and the step by step approach. He includes a "Preliminary Pro-Forma" that is an excellent tool. I would highly recommend this book to anyone putting together or thinking about putting together Commercial Real Estate deals.
Good overview of commercial real estate.......2007-03-31
I was skeptical at first about the book but after having read it, the book does provide a good overview of commerical real estate. The content of the book covers just enough detail that you get a general idea. That being said, it provides a foundation for exploring each section in more detail with other books that are more dedicated. The finance section is a bit light but there are many other books on real estate finance.
Great guide when changing careers.......2003-04-17
Pure Profits by Al Auger has been a great tool for me to use as I change careers. For some one who was not involved in real estate proior to this career change it provided me with a clear and logical guide to getting started. I found the exercises to be a very valuable. They forced me to practice what I had just read in the chapter. As they say the best way to learn something is by doing it, and that is exactly what the exercises accomplished with me.
Much of the information is really common sense. Pure Profits helped bring back to me many of the skills I had learned in my 30 year sales & marketing career. I keep the book with me all the time and constantly refer back to it as I begin to make moves in real estate.
In a way I hope more people don't find out about it so I can maintain an edge on those I deal with. The first real estate agent I dealt with went out and bought the book as soon as I mentioned it. Now he knows where I am coming from as we discuss deals. So you can see, the book isn't only for beginners like me but experienced agents can benefit as well.

Thorough and to the point.......2003-04-10
"Pure Profits" is a complete course in commercial real estate investing. The book is filled with tips and information garnered from the author's many years of experience as a real estate investor. Just as important, he describes various pitfalls that are easy to fall into if you don't know about them. The various areas discussed include creating a relationship with a broker (or becoming a broker yourself), obtaining relevant information, locating the right property, making your investment plan, negotiating, important contract clauses, and creating a proposal that appeals to investors. There is not a lot of fluff in this book. It is concise, to the point, and contains multiple illustrations and examples to help you learn the finer points of investing in commercial real estate. If you want to get started in commercial real estate investing or want to make your efforts more efficient and consistently profitable then this is a book you will not want to miss. It is a recommended purchase for anyone wishing to become involved in or wishing to better their success rate in commercial real estate investing.
Information, Information, Information!.......2003-03-13
The idea of a career in commercial real estate intrigued me for years. This book helped me make the leap to finally do it. Al Auger explained the commercial real estate investment process in detail -- both the good and the bad -- and gave me all the information I needed to succeed. In addition to all the technical details, his book also shows how to better yourself by improving you communication skills, raising your confidence, and a lot more. Auger says all these elements will contribute to your success in commercial real estate.
Pure Profits certainly helped me gain a better understanding of commercial real estate. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the business!
