Book Description
Several dozen Asian women -- well-educated, independent, liberated, experimentally-minded, and familiar with the stereotype of the submissive Asian female -- volunteered to participate in this highly- stylized fine art. In these photographic images by a non-Asian male, they appear elegantly nude and often intricately bound, often not just participating consensually but actually controlling the scenario, and thus the imagery, while ostensibly surrendering all power to another. These images are * a collaborative form of body art * exemplify the traditional values of classic creative studio photography -- formal exploration, spatial drama, nuanced lighting, concern with chiaroscuro, attention to textural detail These unusual partnerships succeed, the photos a microcosm in which they move through and past stereotypes into a zone of unexpected freedom and mutual empowerment. With an introduction by A.D. Coleman.

Fine art at it's best.......2005-10-24
I like that the book is about the art rather than just the rope or the bondage
pictures only, not what i expected.......2005-08-23
I wasnt expecting just photographs when purchasing this book, that is the trouble with amazon books there is no explanation of what the book is about.
Hey! That's my wife!.......2005-04-04
My wife posed for Steven right after she graduated from college. Unfortunately for you she has totally gotten hotter than she was when Steven shot her. In other words, you are totally whacking off to outdated beauty. Sucks for you. Rocks for me.
Hands Down a definate must have!.......2003-07-12
As usual, Goliath has put out another stunning coffee table book for (not quite) the masses. This one is full of Asian (as the title anounces) Beauties bound in beautiful Shibari rope work. I do not think that there is one bad photo in this book.
A new fashinating world.......2003-04-23
Steven Speliotis is a master introducing students to a new fashinating world. The white rope he is using is a seductive path drown on the skin of fashinating models. Where the path leads to is up to the reader.
Book Description
A series of controversies over the existence and meaning of slavery shaped American colonialism and nationalist resistance in the Philippines. While American officials claimed colonialism would free Filipinos from various forms of slavery and American anti-imperialists countered that colonialism itself would constitute new kinds of bondage, the first generation of Filipino nationalists had already appropriated anti-slavery rhetoric in their struggles with Spanish colonialism in the late nineteenth century. From these contentions about slavery as a political metaphor, new disputes erupted when American officials "discovered" the practice of slavery among minority groups, such as the Moro (Muslim) societies of the southern Philippines and animist groups in upland northern Luzon. Michael Salman reconstructs these controversies and charts the successive emergence of slavery as an embarrassment for American colonial officials, Filipino nationalists, and American anti-imperialists.
The Embarrassment of Slavery examines, for the first time, the salience of slavery and abolition in the history of American colonialism and Philippine nationalism. In doing so, it makes major contributions to the global and comparative study of slavery, abolition, colonialism, and nationalism. This book also expands our understanding of slavery and abolition by explaining the link between the globalization of nationalism and the spread of antislavery as a hegemonic ideology in the modern world.

different experiences.......2004-10-05
Klein gives a collection of papers with a very readable account of slavery, from a global perspective. It can broaden the context of slavery for American readers, who often know of it through the lens of their own history. Yet there have been other variants, practised throughout the world.
One compelling note about the book is how relatively recent its events are. From the 19th century to the 20th. Quite a varied group of societies are covered. The Ottoman Empire in its last years. This is contrasted with the mixture of slavery and low caste in colonial India, where there was often a continuum of condition between these two states. Also considered is Indonesia, at that time under Dutch rule.
Perhaps the most interesting observation is that the rise of a strong national rule and identity tended to reduce the incidence of slavery within a country. In Indonesia and indeed across all south east Asia. The book should perhaps have discussed this in more detail.

Enchanting story for ages 3-4.......2002-06-10
VERY simple story about a salamandar who seeks magic that can conquer his fear of the dark -- but eventually finds the magic was within him.
This book is mostly pictures, very little text. Easy to read to little people. Those who are very fearful will find a champion to admire in Pip. Helps children learn that the world is much more than a big scary place... there's magic, too.

Book Description
Salamander Dream is a young girl's journey within a magical forest. As the year's pass, she finds herself changing, which in turn, changes her friendship with Salamander.
Customer Reviews:
astonishing.......2006-05-13
Not only was this story a touching one, it was a simple design that brought out the feeling behind ever word, every picture. Hope Larson lives up to her name (Hope) and she inspires the reader to greater heights with each read.
Deceptively simple, deeply moving.......2006-04-12
This lovely little graphic novel is a wonderful coming-of-age story, one which acknowledges the unavoidable changes & complexities of growing up, while reminding us that it's still possible to hold onto more of that childhood magic than we might have imagined. The duotone art has an emotional richness that belies its apparent simplicity -- Hope Larson already knows that less is more, and that one line can convey as much (if not more) than overly detailed work. And I just love the tiny captions for the various flora & fauna in the background! Everything about this slim volume, right down to the choice of paper & ink, is just right. It's an all-ages work in the best sense of the phrase: children will certainly enjoy it & respond to its charm, and adults will recognize truths that only time & experience can bring. Highly recommended!
Beautiful in may ways.......2005-10-23
This is not only a wonderful story, but every page is a work of art that could stand on its own. The book is a treat to look at, and even the paper stock ads to the feeling. Hope Larson is one of the best illustrators out there, and she is emerging as a good storyteller, also. This book is good enough to make me write an Amazon review for the first time in forever (and with this name I don't really remember coming up with). I love "Salamander Dream."
Beautiful Journey Through Story, Magic, and Nature.......2005-10-17
A wonderful and visually attractive story that treats the living creatures of the forest as fully alive and full of magic, and a girl who holds on to that perspective as she grows older.

Book Description
It was the year that changed my life. One day, there I was, a happy pup with a handsome house out in the backyard, a pack of trusted friends, and more toys than I could possibly put in my mouth at the same time.
Then I began to lose interest in eating -- even expensive moist food. The magic vanished from simple activities that once brought me joy, like knocking over the kitchen trash can. My tail stopped wagging for the cute cocker spaniel next door.
I was in the grip of a powerful depression.
That's when my vet suggested Prozac -- and now, poring over my diary from that turbulent year, it's hard to believe everything that happened as I struggled to get in touch with my Inner Puppy. But in the end, a little pill wrapped in bologna taught me truths about happiness we can all share: how to pick yourself up when you feel down in the snout; how to love the sound of your own bark.
What it truly means to a good dog.
Customer Reviews:
The best book for dog lover's!.......1999-12-14
I have enjoyed this book every time I have read it, and it is many times. I have given this book to most of my dog loving friends, and many will get it this year for Christmas! What a great look into how dogs think and behave. Thank you buck!
Side-bustingly funny canine perspective of life........1999-08-13
An enjoyable read for pet owners or others, "Barking at Prozac" is a hilarious first-"paw" narrative of Buck the beagle. McNichol succeeds at funny and descriptive accounts of everyday life from the four-legged perspective. Readers (or their pets) needn't be on puppy uppers to appreciate the humor of "Barking." It will tickle their funny bone.

Re-imagining vocal education.......2005-12-09
Karen Sell's book outlines a 21st century approach to voice pedagogy that incorporates the latest in psychology, medical science, ethics as well as a practical understanding of traditional voice training. Her background in Alexander Technique is evident as she emphasizes a healthy approach to tone production. I also found that her summaries of historical vocal pedagogy as well as modern approaches to such things as resonance, voice classification and applied anatomy were quite clear and interesting. Her ideas ring true not only for the education of singers, but for all musicians.

I think if you play this for more than 1 hour you eventually find out all the moves. Just go online for any secrets.
Thisone is the second best but..........1999-07-15
Compared tot he other one I'd rather have it then thisone but this one is by far excellent in getting you threw bonus rounds. The other is no where near but the other one tells you the strengths and weaknesses of each chacter so I like it better. I know all there is to know about theis game. And geuss what? I even know more then there is to know...
How it helped me get Luigi and Ness.......1999-06-27
When I first tried to get Jigglypuff, it was a sinch. Captain Falcon was a piece of cake. Getting Luigi and Ness was a different story. Ness was tough. But the guide gave me hints on how to beat the other characters in the 1-player mode to get him. Luigi was tougher. I had to beat all the characters' bonus level 1. Yoshi was the toughest but the guide helped me through the tough spots. If I were you, I'd get the guide.....now!

According to marketing maven and Purple Cow author Seth Godin, the "Television Industrial Complex"--and its nasty habit of interrupting people with advertisements for things they don't want--is dead. Innovation is cheaper than advertising, advises Godin who defines the "free prize" with diverse examples including swatch watches, frequent flyer miles, dog bakeries, Tupperware parties and portable shredding trucks. He explains "Design matters, style matters, extras matter."
The largest portion of the book is devoted to how to sell an idea to your organization. His specific tactics range from irreverent, (let them pee on your ideas) to practical (how to build a prototype). One standout chapter explains how brainstorming can become boring. His alternative, "edgecraft," involves divergent thinking to add something remarkable to your product. His long grocery list of edges (safety, equality, invisibility, and hours of operation) suggest a genuine marketing manifesto. The ideas are bold and insightful, but can suffer from being presented in less than logical order. The book is also diminished by Godin's self-marketing, from using terminology in his previous books to naming key ideas after himself. These advertisements are unnecessary. This nervy little volume is bound to mother many inventions. --Barbara Mackoff
Book Description
Purple Cow was the #1 bestselling marketing book on Amazon in 2003. Now in Free Prize Inside, Seth Godin is back with practical advice on how to put Purple Cow thinking to work inside your organization (big or small, profit or non) to MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN. The next big marketing idea is a proven strategy for making your products or services so remarkable that they practically sell themselves.
Purple Cow taught marketers the value of standing out from the herd, which is how companies like Krispy Kreme and JetBlue made it big. But it left readers hungry for more: How do you actually think up new Purple Cows? And how do you get them adopted by risk-averse Brown Cow companies?
Free Prize Inside delivers those answers and much more. It's a fun guide to doing innovative marketing that really works when the traditional approaches have all stopped working. Thirty years ago, the best way to sell something was to advertise it on television. But today's consumers are cynical, and your product or service had better be more than just hype and clever advertising. Even better, it ought to come with a market-changing innovationa free prize inside.
You don't have to spend a fortune to create something cool that virtually sells itself. Think of simple but powerful innovations like the Tupperware party, Flintstones vitamins, G.I. Joe (a doll just for boys), Lucille Roberts (a gym just for women), and frequent flier miles. Free Prize Inside will teach you how to create those kinds of blockbusters at your own company without a bunch of MBA-brainwashed marketers. You don't have to be a geniusyou just need curiosity, initiative, and a strategy for overcoming resistance when you champion your idea.
We're all marketers now, no matter what our job titles. With Godin's help, we can find the free prize that will transform our companies.
Customer Reviews:
Don't let the cover fool you. It's great.......2007-08-14
This is a brilliant book for those who wish to be change agents and creative marketers. The concepts in this book are simply amazing and helped me thrive my business, so it went from regional to international (although the other writings from Seth Godin should be credited for this too).
The downside is that I feel this book (the title and cover) has the feeling it's a joke. Too big of a promise, too vague of a title. It's not a joke.
If you have that idea too, I'd hereby want to convince you to ignore the cover and the (sub)title and just buy the book. (Well, that is if you want to apply change in (your) company and want to have your marketingskills grow exponentially...)
Entertaning.......2007-07-14
Entertaining as always with Seth Godin, just not sure how "new" anything is in here.
Easy Read.......2007-07-06
Seth Godin writes innovative, thought provoking and fun to read marketing books. This book is all of those things. After all, any book that had the first 100,000 copies available inside a cereal box (get it, the Free Prize Inside?) must be innovative, thought provoking and fun.! This is written as a marketing book and so if you are an entrepreneur, have a marketing interest or responsibility, I believe it is a must read.
But I recommend it for everyone else too - because about half of the book is about the most important part of the idea -selling it. So if you are trying to influence change in your organization, sell your ideas to others, propose an acquisition, suggest a new product line or influence others in your organization in any way, then I recommend you read this book.
(Hint - that last paragraph should be all of us, even if we could care less about "marketing" in our company) Read it because it is innovative. Read it because it is fun. Read it because it has practical information to help you sell others on your ideas.
Another classic from Seth Godin.......2007-07-02
Every one of his books, blog posts, articles, speeches, etc, are top notch. This book is no exception.
Good Godin!!!.......2007-05-30
I had some time to sit and read this "mini monster" book while in the terminal at Kentucky Bluegrass Airport and almost missed my flight. The title is apt and the solid details make for continuous thought provocation.
As usual, this author takes his time to simplify and lay out each idea which allows the reader to almost fit oneself into the picture and want to leap into the moment and "become".
Great publication and compliments to the Author.
I did get my "free" prize...at the register!!
Its worth every penny.
