Arabic Geometrical Patterns are not so easy to find, not to mention understand their knowhows, this book clearly displays a very wide array of examples with simple step by step instructions displayed on the same platform, i was searching for a book like that, this book is quite enough, it is not for novice beginners though, you need to have some background in such subject as the text and discription for each chapter is very limited, and the book is totally black and white, so you have to figureout what color combinations are suitable. But the layout of the book makes reprouducing the wounderful examples easy.

Geometry made easy.......2001-05-21

This book has an extensive variety of geometric patterns that can be use by a Math teacher as well as an Art teacher. The designs are easy to reproduce. The display of the designs are big enough for students to try out and experiment. I greatly recommend it.

Geometrical Designs in Black and White.......2000-05-04

This book is full of different patterns for use by craftsmen. Unfortunately, it has no color illustrations, and no information about sources for these designs. It is more like a coloring book than a resource for designs. However, it does have guidelines within each design to show how the design was created, and I find that useful.

Great Stuff! Plympton is a living legend!.......2000-02-09

I normally am not big on his style of humor but found myself laughing out loud at the abstract, sometimes gross and sometimes perverse comic strips included. The overall concepts of most of these prove Plympton as pure genius. A great person, too. He has visited my school on occasion and made some very great contributions to the world of animation. I was graced with his honorable presence.

Humor is a hard thing to find. You're either born with the talent to make people laugh or you're not. Bill Plympton was born with it! He puts the characters in his work through excruciating torture in a humorous way. I suggest that anyone who enjoys Gary Larsen's The Far Side to give Bill Plympton a try. You may even find Bill surpasses Larsen in some ways! Give it a try!

A book I highly recommend..........2007-03-16

This book was a real page turner for me. To read the openness that Anne Heche used in the telling of this book. She put herself out there to be judged (as you can see by these reviews), but yet she still chose to tell her story. She uses the writing as a way to excorcise her demons and to let people know how she got to where she is. Coming from religious upbringing and abuse is like pulling you in two different directions. I believe she adapted the second personality to deal with the abuse and denial that she was facing at home. It's a well documented fact that people are all the time creating different people in their minds to help them make it out alive. I give her kudos for making it out in one piece. She has had to make peace with her past and I believe this book helped her. I very highly recommend it. It is very insightful into how Christianity can be taken and manipulated to suit the individual whims of many.

They say there is a thin line between insanity and genius. That line, I say, is brilliance. The words leap off the page in a dance of brilliance as Heche courageously seeks, finds, and shares the truth of her existence. It's an interesting read, a well written albeit agonizing journey that had me turning the pages fast, to see what happens next, and then slowly, to savor the crafting of each sentence. The book is controversial in that it throws light into the darkest corners of our lives, and our culture. It is painful in that it is so true. It is exhilirating in the way one human being finds her way through the darkness, facing her demons, to conquer any residual shame and humiliation. The shame is not hers. It belongs to people who can hear a child cry in the night, laugh, and look the other way. Heche's mother is concerned with what everybody else thinks, and how she, as a mother, appears in the face of Anne's herstory. It's no wonder Anne has had to work so hard to take care of herself.

Took Guts to Write this Odd Memoir .......2006-04-06

Strangely unsatisfying tell-all. I distinctly felt that the book was more the writer's attempt to heal than a piece of literary work.

Heche shares much of her oddball therapy work, self-spun theories of her case, and dredged-up memories of abuse in her utterly messed-up childhood, but strangely enough reveals little of her SELF. I felt I was pushed into the psychiatrist's own chair, not allowed to be merely a reader or (in the best case of autobiography) a kind of temporary confidante and friend.

I gotta hand it to her, it took some guts to own up to some of this (psychotic episode under influence of Ecstasy, for one), and I am sorry for her suffering as a child. But perhaps SHE should have paid ME to read her unsavory chunk of insanity.

An in-depth look into Ms. Heche's life. I've been begging for this book for years. Ask my mum. Anne's honesty is refreshing and her choices are brave and simulataneously courageous. I hope that everyone who has spoken to God like Anne and I have, gets a chance to read this book before Ms. Heche's star dims in Hollywood. Not likely! Thank you Anne for not being afraid to be courageous and simultaneously brave. Not all of us have that talent, but you didn't let that stop you, did you?

If you're looking for well formed writing, no this book is not for you. If you're looking for Anne Heche to present herself as some amazing woman without problems, then stay away BUT if you want a very entertaining read about one of Hollywood's least celebrated, interesting people then BUY it!

I absolutely adore this book. Some say it is far fetched and couldn't be true but I love that Anne Heche really opened herself up to this project of writing a memoir. There is nothing worse than reading a "guarded" autobiography and this is as far from that as you can get.

From incest, to LSD therapy to being one of the first openly gay ladies of Hollywood...and then changing her mind this book never has a dull moment.

The fictional Dr. Strabismus sets out to write a new comprehensive theory of music. But music's tendency to deconstruct itself combined with the complexities of postmodernism doom him to failure. This is the parable that frames The Sense of Music, a novel treatment of music theory that reinterprets the modern history of Western music in the terms of semiotics.

Based on the assumption that music cannot be described without reference to its meaning, Raymond Monelle proposes that works of the Western classical tradition be analyzed in terms of temporality, subjectivity, and topic theory. Critical of the abstract analysis of musical scores, Monelle argues that the score does not reveal music's sense. That sense--what a piece of music says and signifies--can be understood only with reference to history, culture, and the other arts. Thus, music is meaningful in that it signifies cultural temporalities and themes, from the traditional manly heroism of the hunt to military power to postmodern "polyvocality."

This theoretical innovation allows Monelle to describe how the Classical style of the eighteenth century--which he reads as a balance of lyric and progressive time--gave way to the Romantic need for emotional realism. He argues that irony and ambiguity subsequently eroded the domination of personal emotion in Western music as well as literature, killing the composer's subjectivity with that of the author. This leaves Dr. Strabismus suffering from the postmodern condition, and Raymond Monelle with an exciting, controversial new approach to understanding music and its history.

Semiotics of Musical Time investigates the link between musical time and the world of signs and symbols. It examines the extent to which musical time is a product of signs, sign systems, and sign-oriented behavior. Sound is discussed as a potential sign of time and of musical time. Brain Gym for Business includes a series of exercises meant to reduce work related stress and increase productivity, creativity, and production. Unlike most exercises created for stress relief purposes, the workouts included in this book are not aerobic and don't require stretching.

The programs in this book work on the basic concepts of behavioural kinesiology. Behavioral Kinesiology looks at the connection of energy flow (chi) through the body and health (both physical and mental). Simply put, when energy is blocked within the body system, an individual experiences fatigue, pain, poor concentration, and lack of creativity.

In this way, many of the Brain Gym activities are simply postures or the conscious bending, lifting, or straighten of particular meridian lines. Workouts for various jobs are outlined in this book, complete with how each posture will increase energy, vitality, creativity, and motivation. For those occupations not listed in these pages, the reader can simply create his or her own program by picking and choosing postures according to skills required in his or her daily work.

This book is quick to use, simple and easy to understand. It is a handbook of simple Brain gyms (movements)that a person can use anywhere to enhance their physiology and mental functioning. The book lists in the beginning all different jobs that one might encounter on the job; example computer work, then it breaks it down into sitting in the chair, being comfortable etc. You turn to the appropriate page for instructions with accompanying picture on how to experience the movement. Notice the change.
