Book Description

Embedded Image Processing on the TMS320C6000™ DSP: Examples in Code Composer Studio™ and MATLAB focuses on efficient implementations of advanced image processing algorithms for resource-constrained embedded DSP systems. Featuring the popular Texas Instruments TMS320C6000TM line of Digital Signal Processors, it utilizes a proven methodology of beginning with a high-level algorithmic point-of-view, proceeding to develop prototype code in MATLAB and Visual Studio, and concluding with an efficient implementation suitable for deployment on an embedded DSP system.

Aside from image processing, the author also explains the uses and rationale behind a plethora of technologies, most notably several industry-standard and essential TI developer technologies, including the Code Composer Studio™ IDE. Highlights include numerous debugged MATLAB and C/C++ Visual Studio prototype applications and efficient C implementations of real-world algorithms tested on both the C6416 DSK and C6701 EVM development platforms.

Packaged with the book is a CD-ROM which includes the source code, tested and debugged using the latest versions of developer tools, as well as sample image data. The CD-ROM contains a number of projects, spanning a diverse range of image processing applications such as, spatial processing techniques, image filtering, edge detection and segmentation schemes, and wavelet-based algorithms, among others.

Embedded Image Processing on the TMS320C6000™ DSP: Examples in Code Composer Studio™ and MATLAB is an essential book for professional signal & image processing engineers working with TI DSPs where real-time constraints are present and performance is at a premium. Imaging software developers and DSP users will also find this book applicable, as it covers a variety of image and signal processing building blocks that appear in a diverse set of real-world applications, including medical imaging, satellite imaging, digital photography, and pattern recognition, to name a few. It may also serve as a reference work for advanced image processing, computer vision, and DSP students working in labs that use TI development kits or MATLAB.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Images and more..........2005-10-28

There are many great examples of basic image processing techniques in this book. Topics like Image Filtering, Edge Detection and also some Wavelets. There is both theory and detailed examples which really helps when trying to get the DSP in a symbiotic relationship with Matlab, CodeComposer Studio and MS Visual Studio.

There is a logical flow in how information is presented. First a basic description of the algorithm. Second some Matlab or pseudo-code. Then third he describes exactly how to implement it on the c6x dsp. Not only are there implementation details but also interfacing explanation for both Matlab and Visual Studio.

Overall this is an excellent book for getting a project up and running in a timely fashion.

5 out of 5 stars A well laid out introduction to embedded image processing.......2005-08-13

This is an extremely well laid out and understandable text. The coding examples are easy to understand and can be easily demonstrated on the TI DSK's. As a current TI employee with little experience with the C6x line of DSP's, Qureshi's book allowed me to learn a large amount of image processing background in a short time while becoming familiar with the workings of Code Composer Studio and the DSP. The book starts very simply and has clear instructions on how to obtain the tools to run all of the code samples on real DSPs.

Starting with an overview of the tools involved and the C6x architecture, Qureshi moves into simple image processing concepts, such as contrast stretching and window/level processing. After clearly explaining the concept and the implementation, the reader is led through the process of optimizing the code for the DSP environment. Later topics, such as edge detection and wavelets leave the reader with a clear understanding of the fundamentals of image processing, as well as code examples that make implementation a breeze.

Overall, an excellently written book and a must for anyone interested in image processing, whether on TI DSPs or not.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners and experts alike........2007-08-20

I picked this book up when I was first starting into digital photography hoping to gain a few tidbits of knowledge to help enhance my photos. What I found instead was a treasure trove of step-by-step, easy to follow procedures for doing everyday tasks, like color balance adjustments, to more indepth tasks, like filling in a receeding hairline and photo restoration. Jack Davis approaches the subject with years of experience from teaching workshops and presents each chapter in layman's terms, foregoing technical jargon so many of us find ourselves mired in. Included with the book is a CD of presets for things such as texturing and frames. The presets alone make this book worth the price of admission but people of all skill groups will find the information collected useful and extremely easy to follow.

5 out of 5 stars one of the very best books for a beginner or intermediate.......2007-05-11

If you really read the book carefully, you'll find that there are at least a dozen techniques that you will want to refer to in future projects. I set tabs on sections of the book (via post-it notes) on about 15 technigues/effects/etc.
Well organized and with easy-to-follow instructions, it certainly is one of the very best books you'll find on Photoshop.

4 out of 5 stars Decent book, but not a must have.......2007-04-25

This book is too easy for an intermediate user, but a bit too advanced for a beginner. For a digital photographer with no Photoshop experience, Scott Kelby's The Photogrshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographer would be an alternative choice.

I've used about six Photoshop book. It's a decent book, but not a must have book. As an intermediate Photoshop user, I didn't pick up any new technique from this book. Therefore, I have exchanged this book for Linnea Dayton's Photoshop CS/CS2 Wow

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for Photoshop lovers.......2007-02-19

This book by Jack Davis is perfect for those PhotoShop lovers that want to follow along with different tools. Many more advanced tools are used in this book.

          5 out of 5 stars photographer.......2007-02-18

Excellent photoshop how too's. Easy to understand. Steps are in easy format to understand. Excellent CD with book to download Actions. A must for the next step after novice to help with photoshop skills.

I once read that, in addition to his unfortunate condition of porphyria, the mental effects of which became the basis for this screenplay, King George also had an anal fistula. Perhaps this explains his dyspeptic attitude toward the American colonies, since we were such a pain in the a__, and he already, as a result of the fistula, had plenty of them.

I also learned once that the French King, Louis XIV, used to hold court with his advisors and other notables while receiving his daily enema, thereby making him sort of a public "enema of the people." No wonder the French monarchy had so many problems.

It's amazing how much of history seems to relate to the proctological vagaries of its rulers. In George III's case, because of his unfortunate anal fistula, one could say it perhaps ultimately came down to a problem with the bottom of the man at the top.

                          Book Description

Introduction by Monty Python member Terry Jones In a format of alternating text and cartoons, author Michael K. Smith (Portraits of Empire) and cartoonist Matt Wuerker deliver a comprehensive overview of the insane world of George W. Bush, and a close up of the -inmates at the White House Asylum-who run your country. You'll meet Duct Tape Tom, whose vision for Homeland Security would scare even J. Edgar Hoover. And then there is the economy. If you aren't rich, it -isn't for you. Smith and Wuerker reveal that wealth is poverty, explaining why the rich need more tax cuts. But there's something for everyone after all-we're entrusting your grandma's pension to the NASDAQ! The foreign policy section contains three parts: It's a Snap! Americanizing The Middle East in Three Easy Step, Evildoers For Dummies The Anti-Missile Shield-Transcending the Fear of Initiating Nuclear War In a wry defense of HMOs, Smith and Wuerker show that sick people are the medical profession's greatest threat. Special feature: "Heroes of Our Time: The Committee to Re-Select The President," with political profiles of: Richard Perle Paul Wolfowitz Dick Cheney Condoleezza Rice Colin Powell Donald Rumsfeld Karl Rove With incredible drawings by Matt Wuerker, this makes an ideal holiday gift from those who just can't put into words how they feel about George.

                                          Book Description

From the "angry young man" who wrote Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf in 1962, determined to expose the emptiness of American experience to Tiny Alice which reveals his indebtedness to Samuel Beckett and Eugene Ionesco's Theatre of the Absurd, Edward Albee's varied work makes it difficult to label him precisely. Bruce Mann and his contributors approach Albee as an innovator in theatrical form, filling a critical gap in theatrical scholarship.

Not all self working, not all magic. Unlike Karl Fulves other books, this one is terrible.

1 out of 5 stars Karl Fulves must have had a bad day when he wrote this plop........2003-03-27

If you think asking someone if they know where a certain word appears on a dollar bill is a magic trick, then this book is for you. Saying "where does an anagram of White Snow appear on a dollar" and then when they give up you point it out - is NOT MAGIC. It's not even a trick. Its just a rather sad puzzle or riddle.

Most of the tricks in this book are that bad. A lot of them don't take more than 2 lines to explain in the book.

There are a few good coin tricks, but they aren't 'self working' and involve palming. Some of the tricks aren't even coin tricks, they use bills. So its really money stunts.

If this book had been called "80 stunts that are rather cack and a couple of tricks that need some practise" it might have been more honest - but then it wouldn't have sold.

Fulves self working card trick books are awesome, but when it comes to coin magic he seems fairly clueless.

I really enjoyed the book very much and use some of the tricks for close up work.

If you see a book written by Karl Fulves on magic that has the words Self-Working in the title then buy it. There is a wealth of knowledge in each of these books. -Diamond Jim Tyler

His vision changed our world. But in this monumental work Bill Gates argues that the capabilities of computers, software, and networks are only beginning to be harnessedand that your company must start building a modern, digital nervous system now in order to compete quickly and intuitively in the new millennium. Here, one of the worlds most successful, strategically-thinking CEOs explains how to turn your hardware and software into a powerful, evolving network of information by looking at the digital systems in place at Microsoft and other leading corporations.

In fifteen months we will reach Bill Gates' proposed milestone (10 years) of an era where information velocity, and our ability to deal with it at 'The speed of thought' will make or break any business. The tech-bubble crash has certainly dampened the progress, but the book is nonetheless undeniably relevant - arguably even more so in today's fast-paced world. Companies such as Wal-Mart, Mark & Spencer, FedEx and many others are prime examples of lessons well learned. Don't be left in the dust, build your own digital nervous system before it is too late.

A great business book that was ahead of its time when it was written, and is still that way for the majority of organizations in the world. I'd just love to read what he'd have to say about business now, not 10 years ago as we all know how rapidly technology is innovating.

5 out of 5 stars The Bible: by Bill Gates........2007-04-12

I have been a software engineer for over 10 years now and have been a paperless office evangelist from the get go. Bill Gates takes you not only into the inner workings of his passion, the "Digital Nervous System" but also some of the inner workings of Microsoft® and the business model of Dell® computers.

I love Microsoft® and their technologies and I have read everyhting that I can possibly get my hands on from Bill Gates and by far this is the best. It doesn't matter if you're pro Gates or not, this book is not technology specific. It's about having the ability to make good and bad news travel quickly into the decision makers hands in an effort to become pro-active rather than re-active. I have been preaching this for years.

I keep a copy with me at work and talk about it to anyone who will listen and if you're a technology evangelist as well this is a MUST have for your library.

Now, if I can only get Bill to sign it...

Gates tells how organizations should use their I.T. departments. More importantly, Gates tells how Microsoft uses I.T. If you want your organization to succeed, read this book.

This was a great improvement over Gates' earlier book, The Road Ahead.
