Inspiration from the unconscious of a world-class Artist.......2004-08-27

An initial browse through the picture plates of this book will send chills up and down your spine. If you are at all familiar with analytical psychology and the themes encountered while doing psychoanalysis, then you will feel "right at home" soaking up the symbolic meaning of Mr. Birkhäuser's images.

The book provides an introduction to the painter Peter Birkhäuser, the plates and commentaries, and a lecture by Peter Birkhäuser on `Analytical Psychology and the Problems of Art.' The text is in both English and German.

The individual plates each have a commentary by Marie-Louise von Franz, one of Carl Jung's "inner circle" of friends and analysts. The commentaries do not represent the conscious thoughts of the artist, but instead try to achieve a subsequent understanding of the paintings and thus hint at possible interpretations. Even so, her intuitive grasp of dreams, symbols and fairy tales makes it a rich source of commentary and connection to the `real material' being portrayed in the images.

You won't want to loan this book once you find one, so better get two copies so that you have a loaner!

I should know since the old Questprobe days not to buy comics (or graphic novels) based on video games. Except that I didn't really cop to the fact that this title was tied to a video game. Or maybe I'm kidding myself; maybe all comics are tied in to video games.

Some bald scientist-type named Roekel flies his spaceship to Earth to field-test his new weapon--a weird serum that, when injected into life forms, turns them into killing machines. He tests it on prisoners Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, The Thing, Elektra, and the Human Torch.

I don't understand why the story jumps ahead two thousand years near the start (this is a longterm experiment...isn't a two thousand year trial-and-error experiment more officially a failure?) I also don't get why (a) He picks superheroes to experiment on, who fight spectacularly without enhancement, and most of whom have been able to work themselves into a fury where necessary anyway, and (b) why he then places them all in a room to kill each other; aren't they of any value to him? And I can't even see what effect the serum has on them because they don't seem any different to me.

Suddenly all the heroes throw off the effects of the serum in succession (I would say that it is NOW time to abandon this hopeless experiment, Roekel), and even more laughably, once they go back to their regular lives a lot of them wish they had it back in their system. This seems completely ridiculous to me--do you fight off the effects of some formula making you perfect, and then decide you want it back? Or are you gonna reject it again?

By the time other heroes like Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic are involved, Roekel has reassessed what kind of test subjects he wants, and selects life's unfortunates. I thought the whole point of his capturing them was to give them the serum, but he has to give them all superpowers first...and now I'm wondering what the point of the serum is at all! We all end up in the Brazilian rainforest because some green, armored aliens who are sworn enemies of Roekel are there, trying to acquire some weird crystal (although, a minute ago, I thought they were on Earth to attack Roekel). I don't recall the crystal having any relevance to what happens next. I DO recall the green meanies fighting Roekel's new batch of "Imperfects", but this is where a comment on the art comes in...

The art is fuzzy and dark. It's hard to make out details in any panel. Sometimes I can't tell who's arm or leg I'm looking at during a melee. The Imperfects--with uninspired names like Solara, Brigade, and The Wink--don't look very impressive in design, and I couldn't even see what some of their powers are. Panels of art don't flow naturally together to tell the story (what exactly happened when the Imperfects got clobbered), and by the time the big-name heroes were back in the fray, I had given up on this one.

Yikes.

Almost as good as the video game!.......2007-03-10

This story is awesome! It tells what happened before the video game started! (which is called Marvel Nemesis Rise of the Imperfects!) It says stuff that usually apears in a Blockbuster movie. My only problem is that you think it's the book based on the video game. But that's ok because it's cool! Just don't buy it for your kids if they aren't aloud to hear swear words because it does that alot! Any way it's an awesome book, you should totally buy it, and you'll like it if you like violence or comedy (which I forgot it does appear in the book some times.) It's the best book I ever read! It's awesome!

The Perfect Gift for Parents of Small Children!.......1997-12-17

I was given this book shortly after my second child was born. I have now given this book to my friends as their second child has appeared, but this is in no way limited to second child families.

Anyone with experience with small children will enjoy these comic strips. They are hilariously true and I constantly interrupted my husband to show him the particularly apt ones.

Everyone can use a good laugh!

Interesting that a book advertised to help you navigate the internet and avoid rip offs is the biggest rip off itself. All of the links are to search engines or are outdated and the authors email is no longer valid. All the other info you can find yourself. Save your money and dont buy this book!!

This book is absolutely amazing. Bill Bartmann went from welfare to being the 25th wealthiest person in America, which is a great achievement. Imagine having 4000 employees and taking them and their spouses on vacation with you. Bill took his employees to Disney World, on ocean cruises and Las Vegas to name a few. Bill was a giver and now he does it again by giving us 9 steps to help us achieve great success. Get this book for your library and read it over and over again.

Yes, the reviews below are true; CFS imploded crazily, Bill was like a tyrant, and he called his employees dumbbastard SOBs.

But, so what?

Listen, I've read this book and it makes complete sense regarding how our brain works and how it has worked to preserve the species. Now, in modern society, Bill tells us how our brain's evolved mechanisms influences our behavior in a negative way.

In a nutshell:

1) Our brain gathers ALL information
2) Our brain places priority over information with EMOTIONS or REPETITION
3) Because our society teaches us to be MODEST, we subconsciously downplay our successes, and overplay our failures
4) The subconscious draws information from these priority information and guess what, it thinks we aren't very capable because we have more NEGATIVE information than POSITIVE.
5) Our self-image is tied to our self preservation, which prevents us from being harmed (embarrassed) etc.
6) Consequently, our brain forces us to rationalize, self-sabotage, etc. basically anything that prevents us from reaching our goals.

Do yourself a favor, READ this book. It has all the details that you need. Bill also tells you how to practically utilize our brain's such defense mechanism to do the OPPOSITE of self-sabotage.

I also recommend "Conquer Fear" by Lisa Jimenez, as a good complementary book.

A MUST READ.......2007-08-22

Billionaire Secrets to Success was one of the most informative and enlightening books I've read. To read the inspirational examples set forth left me with one primary thought - if he can do it anyone can! To read how Bill walked again after being laid up in the hospital paralyzed, made my struggles seem insignificant. Read this book and learn much more than acquiring wealth - learn how to live!

Changing Your Inner World.......2007-08-21

In this book, Bartmann gives you an understanding of the process necessary to achieve whatever you want in life. First off, he explains how the mind works in an easy to understand fashion. Following this, he explains how you can use this knowledge to achieve what you want. The book is written in a language that is easy to understand. It should be made clear that by simply reading the book your life will not change. You will have to practice and follow the steps Bartmann recommends. I read this book about five months ago and have followed it religiously. By following his advice religously, a magnificent transformation has occurred within me and I am attracting what I desire into my life. In a nutshell, Bartmann gives you the tools necessary to change your inner world. The inner world is the state of your inner being. By changing your inner world you are equipped to attract towards you anything you want. He give you nine steps to do this as well as other practical tools. If you use Bartmann's tools and steps religiously, you too can make great changes in your life. Bartmann will show you how to change your inner world. Practice what he teaches...great things will result. Your self esteem will soar and allow you to jump over hurdles that were once in your way. I strongly recommend you read and PRACTICE the steps outlined in this book. May a great change occur in your life too!
