Nice Pictures.......2005-10-08
This book tells very little about making armor. It is a collection of shots of a harness as it is made. The pictures are of little use without some explanations. It is like seeing pictures of someone driving a car, looks good but really doesn't tell you how to do it. There are much better books out there, such as Price's Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction; buy that instead.
The art of making armour a craftman's guide to creating authentic armour reproductions.......2005-08-06
Great book, The photo's were very informative. The writing was simple to understand. If you want to make better armour then this is the book for you.
disapointment, disapointment, disapointment.............2004-08-26
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!! BY ALEX PRICE'S BOOK IT HAS SO MUCH MORE IN IT!!!!!!! this book (or overpriced pamphlet) had absolutley no usefull information in it. You would be much better served bying Alex Price's book Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction.
Thin as a spiders web, but not as sticky.......2004-06-18
Well, I bought it, and got it and was very disapointed.
I expected more from such a great armourer as R. Valentine. Instead I found great amusement in Brian R. Price's; Techniques of midieval armour reproduction, the 14th. century.
If you want a book to show you how to make your own armour, or how it was done, buy the biggest book.
B. R. Price - 485 pages + sources !!!!
R. Valentine - 90 pages (mainly pictures)
Norwegian Armourer.
Not an instructional book.......2004-03-30
A book that cannot be used as a reference book. While the basic steps for making armour are touched on, it is more a collection of pictures taken during the manufacturing of a harness of armour.
Book Description
With talented young Japanese players signing to the American Majors, interest in Japanese baseball is at an all-time high. Sayonara Home Run! introduces curious fans to Japan's national pastime through the lens of the country's playfully beautiful baseball cards. A fascinating text traces the roots and cross-cultural history of the Japanese game, while hundreds of illustrations showcase gorgeous vintage cards. Woven throughout are profiles of key Japanese players, features on important U.S. team tours of Japan (with Japanese cards of players such as Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio), and insights into the social history of the cards. Including primers on Japanese player nicknames and baseball terms, and the fine points of the Japanese game, Sayonara Home Run! is a must-have for anyone interested in baseball, Japan, or this unique chapter in popular design.

This could've been featured in our collector's section or even our sports section, but is presented here for its powerful artistic survey of Japanese sports through its lovely baseball card art. SAYONARA HOME RUN! THE ART OF THE JAPANESE BASEBALL CARD features player history, card art, and loved and hated baseball teams alike. It will attract any with an interest in world baseball or in collectible ballgame cards - and many a browser with an interest in neither!

A Beautiful and Informative Book.......2006-04-20
Vinatge Japanese baseball cards are among the most beautiful baseball collectibles in the world. I discovered these treasures over ten years ago during a trip to Japan and became an avid collector. My passion for the cards eventually led to a on-line card business and a career as a baseball writer. John Gall and Gary Engel's new book Sayanara Homerun! depicts hundreds, if not thousands, of theese beautiful cards. The book's presentation is wonderful. Cards are gracefully portrayed as art but the accompanying text will statisfy both baseball card collectors and fans of Japanese baseball.
If you are an American baseball cards collector, come see what you are missing. If you a fan of Japanese baseball, come see great pictures of your favorite stars.
I spend hours paging through this book and expect that you will enjoy it as much as I have.

Book Description
The Government Manual for New Wizards is a hilarious, mock-official handbook for wannabe witches and warlocks who need advice on recognizing the onset of wizardolescence, understanding the laws of magic (and the magic of laws), choosing (or being chosen by) the right magical items and enchanted artifacts, dealing with the dead (grateful and otherwise), successfully hosting magical exhibitions, and the proper care and feeding of magical creatures.
Wands, charms, cloaks of invisibility, shoes of stealth (or "sneakers"), and other otherworldly accoutrements-it's all here, discussed tongue-in-cheek but with the utmost Governmental authority.
This entertaining guide offers such sage advice as:
" A demon is just as afraid of you as you are of it-provided, of course, that you are eight feet tall, composed of living fire, and capable of destroying a small village with a single angry thought. Otherwise, it doesn't find you frightening at all.
" When selecting educational programs, do not be tempted by solicitations from wizardry parchment mills. A so-called degree from such a place is not worth the scroll on which it appears to be inscribed. The ink will disappear not long after the school itself does.
The Government Manual for New Wizards is a sidesplitting spoof of all things wizard-y.

Hi I'm Troy McClure..........2007-05-15
Hi I'm Troy McClure, you might rememeber me from such reviews as the Government Manual for New Superheroes. Okay, well that's what reading these books always makes me think of. If you liked the GMfNS then you are going to like the GMfNW. Very amusing throughout but I just liked the GMfNS better. You get things like wizardolesence, where to go to school, summoning demons, useful magical items for the new wizard, tips for gaining your animal companion, and how to deal with the dead. Artwork is minimal but that's alright. There was still room for more stuff and different material could have been used to make this book better such as spells gone awry. None-the-less, still a funny book. I enjoyed the "magic is real and 'this science' can be easily explained away by using magic".
Overall, very light reading and you will laugh multiple times, I think the Government Manual for New Superheroes is better and am looking forward to the GMfNew Pirates. Hopefully this series will continue with something along the lines of GMfNew Aliens on Earth or Space Marine, you catch the drift.
More hilarity from Brozik and Weinstein .......2006-09-29
I admit it. I know Matthew Brozik. He is a very funny man. Funny, and a little nervous. Kinda jumpy. That's OK, though. I think it explains his very quick wit. I don't know Jacob Weinstein, although he must be pretty funny too, if he's also responsible for this very funny little book.
Harry Potter fans, reformed role playing gamers, and smart people in general will really enjoy this book. It's one of the best "fake information" books I've read. Full of specious facts and guidelines for magicians, the Govt. Manual pokes fun at popular fantasy texts and conventions with occasional (and forgivable) puns, non-sequitors, and hyperboles that remind me of Mel Brooks movies and Woody Allen short stories rolled into one. These guys should be writing for the New Yorker. Discover them now.
When In Doubt, Curse Them Again.......2006-09-27
I laughed, I cried, I got in trouble with the Inquisition again. Worth a read. Worth stealing from your mates coffee table or better yet, purchase your own. An excellent follow up from the New Superheros Guide.
I was also surprised at the inclusion of the last three draft chapters from the upcoming Book 7 of Harry Potter...
Genius.......2006-09-17
The authors of this book have done it again...TGMFN Superheroes and Wizards are both very entertaining books, well written. I recommend BOTH books to any person interested in these topics. Especially those Harry Potter fans out there...if you like any topic related to Wizards you'll enjoy this book. The authors are obviously very creative and talented people.
Did he cast a spell?.......2006-09-14
Or is this book really that good? I'll never know, and frankly, I don't care. Fun, and informational read.

The Riddle of Cantinflas: Essays on Hispanic Popular Culture
ASIN: 0842027718 |
Book Description
Cantinflas and the Chaos of Mexican Modernity is a revealing probe into the life and times of Mario Moreno, Latin America's most famous film star from the 1940s to the 1970s. This book helps to illuminate the social and cultural history of twentieth-century Mexico. Cantinflas (Moreno's film persona) was the most popular movie star in Mexican history. A fast-talking, nonsensical character, he helped Mexicans embrace their rich mestizo identity and cope with the difficulties of modernization. For thirty years he served as a weapon of the weak, satirizing corrupt officials and pompous elites who victimized Mexico's urban poor. This is a valuable text for courses on Mexican history and Latin American film.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for understanding modern mexico.......2006-12-28
Mario Moreno better known as his character Cantinflas was a Mexican star that worked his way into the United States. He represented the struggles of society with Cantinflas representing the poor and Moreno representing the rich in Mexico. The book is very well written and shows the class struggle by tracking the development of Moreno and his character. Cantinflas unique style made him a star in Mexico and a national hero who was involved in politics. Pilcher does an excellent job for those looking to understand culture and class struggle in modern Mexico.

Awesome book.......2004-03-28
This book is awesome, I am a huge conspiracy nut and this book showed me just some of the stuff that our government might be hiding from us. Even if you are not a fan of roleplaying games, I sincerely recommend this book if you are a fan of conspiracies, or are just too damned paranoid for your own good.
More Than Just a Game Product.......2000-03-30
Do you believe? Whether you are a fringe researcher or you subscribe to Conspiracies Monthly, this book is for you! It is chock full of conspiracies and artifacts from history. More than a simple game product, the book is also a fantastic read.
Packed with gaming information in the GURPS style, Warehouse 23 is also full of behind-the-scenes conspiracy information. S. John Ross is obviously a man-in-black and knows far too much for his own good. From the legendary Ark of the Covenant to clones of world leaders, the warehouse has it all.
Conspiracy Theorists Beware!.......1999-10-05
You only thought you knew conspiracies. But in this book, it all comes to light! WAREHOUSE 13 is a light-hearted look at the paranoid that lurks inside all of us. The premise is that somewhere, hidden away in a secluded mountainside, is a darkened storage facility that contains a myriad of things that THEY don't want you to know exist!
And what a collection!
Clones of current and past presidents, androids, mind-control devices, the Ark of the Covenant, the Spear of Logenes, even up-to-date files on YOU! It's all in here! If you have ever imagined that our beloved and benign government might be hiding something from us, this book will put you onto cloud nine!
A wonderfully delightful addition to any conspiracy-based game, or just a rollicking good read!
Good background and sauce material.......1998-09-09
There's some great stuff for your campaign in here. I've already used it in mine (a government conspiracy / Bigfoot sort of thing). Some of the artifacts could have had a better basis in history (but then again, maybe they do :-)

Customer Reviews:
Not what I was looking for..........2007-08-05
I read this book looking for ideas to help supplement by regular income by doing something from home. This was NOT the book for me. Most of the suggestions were totally useless for me and required a lot of skills/education that I don't have and would have to obtain before I started. For example, two of the suggestions are Accountant and Lawyer (!). This would better have been titled as "Careers That Allow You To Work At Home If You Want To." Also, as a side note, the projected earnings about Medical Transcriptionist was WAY overinflated...I am doing that currently, and my mother owns her own business and makes really good money, but not the $40-$60 an hour stated in the book. That's outrageous!
200 Best Home Businesses My Review.......2007-02-06
I loved this book, granted you could really think of many of these ideas yourself, but truly not everyone is savvy on the internet to research. Finding a home based business is a tough task, you may want to read and re-read many of the ideas that spark an interest with you! If you do not like dogs, don't be a pet sitter. Take notes at every opportunity.
Home Business Review.......2007-01-19
I enjoyed looking at the various options, however some "home Business'" were really not logical. However even, this book does stimulate the mind, and gets you thinking about what talents you have that you could put to use as a home business.
200 Best Home Businesses by Jones.......2006-08-18
The author mentions many different alternatives for supplementing
income. These alternatives include review of utility bills for
large entities. The rendering of expert advice is another potential
business. The author mentions concert promotion, consulting
engineering, eBook Publishing, freelance writing, graphic design,
rare book dealerships and seminar services. This acquisition would
help anyone seeking to supplement their current income. It could
be useful for retirees and others on a fixed income.
A very refreshing book.......2006-07-07
I picked up this book not knowing what to expect and I was very surprised to find a new type of approach.
The author has done a wonderful at holding my attention and I highly recommend it.
I'd also like to recommend that you read Untapped Wealth Discovered. This too is a very smart and refreshing book and the authors have packed lots of vital info into their book.
Both of these books are well priced, very affordable and great motivators for both the interested and serious reader.
