More than meets the eye.......2006-11-03
I really don't enjoy weddings that much; and wedding photos are pretty low on my list of things to look at. However, a friend wanted me to take photos at his wedding so I read this book. Sensibly I declined taking photos at his wedding and he got a professional. (Just because I have a nice camera does not mean I take nice photos!) The book explains how to position the couple for staged photos and interesting things to do with the lighting. I especially enjoyed the sections in the back of the book that was kind of a "cook book" of how to set the gang up for different photos. The author also discussed the artistic photos of the bride; some work and some don't in capturing the "character" of the bride using lighting and composition. This book is also enjoyable to look at. After reading the explanations of how the shots were created I doubt that I will look at good wedding photos without an appreciation of what the photographer did to make them happen. It's another good photography book that should give the average person a jump start into taking better than average photos at a wedding. (Bonus points if your wife catches you reading it!)
Outdated, but only printed last year!.......2006-05-27
I am new to Wedding photography and picked up this book at my local library. First off if you are a "photojournalist" do not bother investing your money in this book. This book focuses more on chessy formal shots, that look like they are from the 1980's. What is more suprising was when I found out this book was made only last year. It's severely outdated style wise and not for the modern photographer.
The only thing I took from this book was the contract and business information. At least that was something that can not go out of date.
Best yet!.......2006-05-20
I have read so many books about wedding photography by now but this one is the best yet! It is well explained, very easy to understand. It covers everything thats important to know, shows great images to go along with the text and gives you great ideas! I encourage you to read this!
Great Wedding Photography Guide.......2006-05-05
I have been a photographer most of my life, and a wedding photographer for four years now. When I purchased this book, I expected to see good examples of things to shoot at weddings, receptions, etc. To my surprise, I found that Mr. Ferro walks the reader through every aspect of wedding photography in a way that makes you feel as if he's sitting and talking with you face-to-face. For anyone serious about wedding photography as a business, this book needs to be in your library!
The Wedding Photographer's Bible.......2006-02-18
Rick Ferro's latest is an update of his original text of the same title. It is easily the most comprehensive guide for any wedding photographer.
Rick's wedding images are wonderful and a great source for posing and lighting ideas. This book should be in all wedding photographer's personal collections.

The women in my family.......2001-04-24
I grew up listening to my mother & aunts complaints about the joys & frustrations of been a full time working women/mom/wife/girlfriend ect.Cathy was part of our life back them & today. My mom is not a wife anymore she is a girlfriend now & my aunts are single & Married moms trying to figure out what is best for their kids, having a working mom or PTA mom. Cathy make us laugh when we though that crying was the only thing we could do,I dated like she did,I did stupid diets like she did but I survived like she did. With class & "dignity"
Wonderful Cathy -- Past! Present! Future?.......2000-11-14
For a useful look into Cathy's past, and her gradual growth (riiiight) this book is a must. It charts from the early, basic strips upon which many of the present ones have grown from, to the current form of Cathy who is more polished and more refined in appearance, but she's still the same neurotic wreck we know and love.
We see Cathy Guisewite's "energetically primitive" style change into a more ordinary, refined drawing style (all cartoonists do this) and enjoy her hilarious comments interspersed amid them. Though all of the strips are from previous books, there are probably some you missed, and they're arranged so pleasingly that you don't care if they've been done. This book is a gem!
This book is every aspect of every woman in America today........1998-08-10
I loved this book. Cathy is gone forward, backward, and sometimes sideways in an attempt to find the man of her dreams. I found myself in the comics at times and wondered, what was I thinking? Now the only thing I'm wondering, did she marry Irvin or her dog?
Cathy lovers will enjoy this collection.......1997-05-02
If you've been following Cathy for the past twenty years or even if you haven't (and I haven't... I've only done so for the last 4 and a half), you'll enjoy this look back at some of the highlights in this long-running strip.
Punctuating this plethora of cartoon memories, starting from 1976, are short commentaries by Guisewite herself on Cathy and her place in the social order of that period of time.
So if you like Cathy, and you're interested in seeing what Cathy has looked like during the years, from Guisewite's crude earlier strips, to today's more refined Cathy, you'll want to get a copy of this collection.

funny but true.......2004-02-15
M's Banks and M's Barber show us how life can be more fun f we would only "break the rules" of dating. You remember that book, right? Let him make the first move, wait for him to call _you_, don't act too eager to see him - you know, all that stuff your mom or girlfriends told you to do that seemed so stupid at the time.
The lovely ladies suggest that "if he has a pulse, you have a date" and instructs the available females on how and where to meet these men. It's a funny book but has a lot of truth in it, especially one of my favorite passages: "...stop waiting for some nonexistent guy to come along and save you. Get over it. This is it. Get a job and buy your own stuff."
If you find yourself laughing at that quote or at the least agreeing with it, you will really enjoy this book. However, if you're still waiting for Prince Charming to show up, you probably won't like this book - you definitely need it, but you won't like it. I recommend this book highly for all those who can laugh at the dating game.
Deliciously neurotic!.......1998-08-30
You must read this book if you have read "The Rules" and have a sense of humor. The authors are hilarious; I laughed out loud while reading in public even. My favorite quote from the book pretty much sums it up: "PMS is a gift given to women, biological permission, if you will, to torture, maim and paralyze men."

Mourning Diana: Nation, Culture and the Performance of Grief
ASIN: 0851707882 |
Book Description
The death and funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, was one of the biggest television spectacles the world has ever seen. In the midst of the blanket media coverage and the astonishing scenes of grieving across the U.K., the British Film Institute asked members of the viewing public how they reacted to the television coverage of these historic events.
Drawing on unique and wide-ranging in-depth replies from people around the country, this book examines the role television played in providing up-to-the-minute news about this tragic event, its role in shaping public perceptions about the mass outpourings of grief, and assesses whether the television coverage of the Princess's funeral revitalized the connection between individual viewers and the core values of a wider society.
Interpreting Diana goes on to explore the reason why the Princess's death affected so many people who had never met her and suggests that television genres such as news and soap opera are integral to the way we think about the world around us. This is the first book to present original evidence of viewer's responses to one of the defining historical and media events of our times.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth much.......2007-05-14
I had to read this book for a school assignment. A history assignment more specifically. The writer is intelligent but the read is pretty much worthless. It might have some value to some sections of sociology but it isn't much for history. It is still to soon to analyze whether or not this funeral had or will have any impact on society.

Lind/Marchal/Wathen: Basic Statistics for Business and Economics 5e is a derivative of the best-selling STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES IN BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS, 12/e offering the essential topics of statistical tools and methods delivered in a student friendly, step-by-step format. The text presents concepts clearly and succinctly with a conversational writing style. All statistical concepts are illustrated with solved applied examples immediately upon introduction. Modern computing tools and applications are introduced, though the text maintains a focus on presenting statistics content as opposed to technology or programming methods, and the fifth edition continues as a ‘students’ text with increased emphasis on interpretation of data and results.
Customer Reviews:
Review of Basic Statistics.......2007-02-20
This is a well written and illustrated text book that describes the working of statistics. Definitions are placed in boxs within the text so the defination of a term is where you read the uses of the term. Review questions are also place within the text so the question follows the definition and explation of the statitistical information being taught. The book also uses web sites for information and examples, software programs such as Excel, to add to the learning experience. Included is a CD with power point lessons, and sample quizes.
Good Book but..........2006-10-19
Yes, put all the extra features together, namely the student CD and the Visual Statistics together, this seems like a well-put-together solution for a beginner statistics course. However, it needs some help. The book could be more thoroughly indexed. Visual Statistics software does not work properly even with updates. Sentence such as "The mean of the sampling distribution of the sample mean is obtained by summing the various sample means and dividing the sum by the number of samples" is not intuitive. This book has potential to be great, but it will take better teaching techniques than complex statistics talk.
introductory stats.......2006-07-05
The book is essentially a standard introductory probability and statistics course, with an emphasis on the statistics. The business and economics in the title is mostly reflected in the examples given in the text, which have that orientation.
There is also no emphasis on formal proving of various maths results. The typical reader is not expected to be a maths major, and probably does not need it.
A useful feature is the CD that accompanies the book. It lets the reader easily use a computer to handle the tedious data inputting and number crunching.
Book Description
Cooper and Schindler’s Business Research Methods, 8e offers students and instructors thorough coverage of business research topics backed by solid theory. The authors are successful marketing research consultants and that is evident in the rich and realistic case studies found in the text. Managerial decision making is the underlying theme, topics and applications are presented and organized in a manner that allow students to thoroughly understand business research topics and functions. Consequently, the structure of the text encourages and supports completion of an in-depth business research project during the semester.r.r.
Customer Reviews:
Moderately Dreadful.......2004-06-03
'Business Research Methods' is an expensive and unhelpful textbook. Chances are if you are reading this book it will be for a collegiate research class. Do not even think of buying this for use outside of school; there are many more useful and practical research books available at much more reasonable prices.
I used this in a graduate research methods class, and found it devoid of much practical information, instead being filled with a lot of meaningless doubletalk that has (unfortunately) come to dominate a high percentage of social science textbooks in the last twenty years. The advice on research and study design is useful for only extremely narrow types of studies, and may or may not help a student prepare for a thesis or dissertation (I am guessing it will not help more people than will find it helpful.)
To add insult to injury the book is patronizing and tends to talk down to students particularly in the insultingly stupid and simplistic faux case studies it uses. In particular, the 'MindWriter' study with "Myra Wines" reads more like a very poorly written soap opera than legitimate business case study, and insults the intelligence of students. (Particularly galling is the wholly implausible situation in which Myra finds herself solving an expended munition problem in the Army. Clearly from reading this, the authors should know more about their subject matter before creating these vignettes.) Most people who use this book could do entirely without these manufactured, extremely politically correct case studies. They in no way enhance learning.
Another major issue is the actual presentation of the text. McGraw Hill should be ashamed of the way this book looks. There are random text boxes breaking up the chapters all over the place (most often with useless information), pointless and often indecipherable flowcharts abound (an excellent example of this is the questionable flow of lines on Exhibit 3-7, 'Research Proposal Process', or the labyrinthine Exhibit 5-1, 'Ethical Issues and the Research Process', neither of which help make anything clearer), and extremely poor font and color choices. Here I refer to the dubious decision to use red ink to print inset quotations. Evidently McGraw Hill doesn't know that in many studies, red has been found to be one of the most difficult to read colors, and detracts from comprehension. Besides that, what's the point? I can read black ink just as well, it costs less, and it is already inset so I can see it is differentiated at a glance. None of that, however, is as bad as the selection of pink paper for many of the ancillary sections (normally case studies and the like) sprinkled liberally throughout the book at inconvenient places. This is dreadful. Not only is this difficult to read, but it is hard to highlight. Of course all these things make the book vastly more expensive. Textbook publishers would do well to knock off the fancy typesetting tricks and get back to basics while making their books less expensive. I don't mind paying $136.00 for a book, but I do want to get a good value. (Of course this isn't the only textbook that has fallen into this trap.)
All told I gave this book two stars. It really is a sub par book, and I did consider giving it one star, but it occasionally contains a real gem of a thought that makes it more worthwhile than a single star book would be. I believe that this book is in dire need of a good editor. It is 857 pages long, and could easily be reduced to 300 pages by sorting the wheat from the chaff. At 300 pages this would probably be a very good and practical book, at 857, it is obese. If you have a choice of book to use for a given course, I would not select this one. It is of limited utility and it requires vastly too much effort to glean required knowledge. Avoid if possible.
