This book is a treasure when searching for innovative color combinations. Just when I thought I had run out of ideas, I found this book. It helps you use color in ways that you would not have thought of using them. The listing of the CMYK color is useful for print and can be transposed with the use of any graphics program into the RGB color. It is a great reference for web as well as print designers.

Not a bible.......2004-04-28

This book is not a bible on any topic related to digital TV. It's more of a synopsis that briefly discusses what's involved in encoding, transmitted, receiving, and decoding digital signals, with an emphasis on the standards being used in Europe.

I recommend this book for engineers new to the field of digital TV; but once you have an overall idea of how a digital system works, I recommend getting something more specific to your area. This book does not have any formulas or walk-through examples.

To quote the author from the preface, "This book does not aim to make the reader an expert in digital television... The main goal is to enable readers to understand the principles of this new technology, to have a relatively global perspective on it, and...to investigate further any particular aspect by reading more specialized and more detailed books."

Excellent overview for beginners, useful tables for experts........2000-02-14

Comprehensive, contains all the important diagrammes and thumb rules. I recommend this book to the novice as well as to experts. Readers who are familiar with signal processing and digital communication issues will find this book very interesting and a good source of knowledge; and those who are already DVB professionals will regard it as an excellent conclusion with all the important and useful numbers, tables, and diagrams.

Easy to read, with all the necessary diagrammes and illustrations, this book is a formidable source of information for everyone - from a novice (like me) to a to-be-professional. Without hiding the complexity of digital television, the author makes a systematic review of the situation. No stupid remarks, no empty words. Just facts and real advice. Excellent!

An Excellent introduction to the european DVB system.......1999-04-08

This book is an excellent overview of the system perspective of a DVB system (satellite, cable. or terestrial). It includes a good discussion on MPEG-2 and transport and program streams.

It is just brilliant although it isn't very long you just have keep reading you cannot put it down it is just brilliant!

A good read, but not up to par with the play or movie.......2001-04-03

Curiously, this version of Billy Elliot (a novelization written by Melvin Burgess) was obviously written to appeal to young adult readers of about jr. high/high school age, who, strangely enough, would not likely be old enough to go see or even really interested in a film such as Billy Elliot in the first place. This novelization unfortunately washes away the directness and vividness so apparent in the written screenplay. The descriptions interspersed within the dialogue take much of the original starkness of the play and movie away, leaving Billy to seem rather flat emotionally. The strife and hardship of Billy's struggle to attain his goals in light of his difficult family situation is largely defused. Lee Hall's excellent screenplay is FAR superior!! Pick that up and by-pass Melvin Burgess's attempt.

"It flows, like electricity...aye...that's it..electricity!".......2001-04-03

When Billy is explaining what it feels like to dance, he basically summarizes the whole of this screenplay: "...starts out sort of stiff..." but then, he adds, the dance (and story) unfolds and becomes "a fire....electricity." Since I decided that Billy Elliot ranked as one of my favorite movies of 2000, I felt that the book would offer some insight and help to follow the whole of the story (boy those accents are hard to decipher at times in the movie!) This book, in screenplay form, offers all those one liners and dialogue parts you just missed while watching the movie. Pictures from the movie placed throughout the book are a nice added touch. A very satisfying screenplay of a very satisifying movie! It is simply a wonderful tale of getting out of the hard places and truly soaring towards your goals.

When his photo appeared in a bodybuilding magazine, the young man caught the attention of a family in Texas who began praying for his soul. Soon, Wayne found religion at a revival meeting, then mortified his parents as he left home to bend steel, rip phone books in half, and preach the Gospel on the back roads of America.

Because of his natural athleticism, Wayne held a series of jobs -- from bouncer to boxer, from repo man to football player. However, it was under the training of the "Mentor of Mayhem," Stu Hart, that the wrestler was revealed. Then the fading headliner Dr. Jerry Graham bleached Wayne's hair blond and transformed him into an in-ring "brother." Still reverent of men of faith, Coleman became "Billy Graham," after the preacher. Graham completed the package with his golden tan and enormous "pythons," a succession of color-coordinated outfits and jive-talking -- a persona imitated by countless wrestlers, including Hulk Hogan and Jesse "The Body" Ventura.

The Superstar's greatest wrestling achievement came in 1977, when he took the World Wide Wrestling Federation Championship from Bruno Sammartino. He held the prize for nearly a year -- the first wrestling villain to do so. But after he lost the title to wholesome Bob Backlund, Graham fell into a deep depression. He disappeared from the business, squandering his money and losing himself in a haze of drugs.

In Tangled Ropes -- co-written with Keith Elliot Greenberg -- Superstar Billy Graham tells a story that transcends his life in the wrestling profession, offering candor, nostalgia, inspiration, and humor. Wow! I loved this guy and this IS A GREAT BOOK!.......2007-07-22

It's a cliche', but what a page turner. First let me say, I was a HUGE Billy Graham "mark" when I was a kid. He was the first guy that drew me in. He had such charisma. So cool. Anyway, this book is just him 100% totally pouring out his soul. He holds back nothing. Tells you absolutely everything about everyone and mostly - himself.

The stories are more heartbreaking with each page. Everything from him hearing he may only have 30 days to live when he was waiting for his kidney transplant to embarassing moments like when he ditched a cab outside of the Georgia wrestling TV studio because he didn't have the money - only for the guy to come in looking for him and then Dusty Rhodes flips out a $50 bill in front of others to Billy telling him to "pay the taxi".

What's most amazing is that he tells much of his story without heavy bitterness or anger except during his attacks on the WWF and Vince during the steroid trial - which he admits he only did to try to get some hush money from Vince since he really had NO money. It was that he really should have done more and that drugs really did wreck his life.

Wow - I could go on and on and still not give up everything in this book. It really is great. God bless the man of the hour, the man with the power - too sweet to be sour!

A refreshingly honest and insightful biography. Superstar's life has had plenty of ups and downs, and you go through the entire ride. Lots of great stuff on the inside world of pro wrestling as well.

Truly a Superstar.......2007-01-19

This was an amazing story of a man that I began watching over 30 years ago. There was so much I wanted to learn about him, and this book filled in all the blanks for me. I was surprised to learn about his closeness to Arnold Schwarzenegger. There are some great photographs as well and amazing road stories. I had only heard about some of stuff that Dr. Jerry Graham used to pull in his drunken hazes. It was only the tip of the iceberg as Wayne described them in detail, ugh. A definite must for any old school fan. Wayne Coleman is an incredible man and his creation Superstar Billy Graham was an tremondous wrestler.

Written by the guy who helped Purpose Driven Life sell millions of copies--I would call him credible. And I was not disappointed by what I read. He gave me great tips and tools to help me reach my audience.

Not the best marketing book...but VERY useful.......2007-04-18

First off....what's with all the complaints about the "fire" analogies given in this book. I personally think it puts you in a proper "frame of mind" as far as equating to real world marketing. This is what makes the book relevant as an example would be to find "the driest tinder" ....makes sense as what should be where your marketing dollars should be directed.

I own many marketing books and this definately stands among the better ones.

The only problem i have is the fact that if the author is an expert in marketing books (his occupation) Why has this book not "caught fire" in the marketplace?

Everything relavant to marketing can be learned in the left inside flap of the jacket, unless of course you are looking for a book on the science of building a fire. The author has no experience, he only uses 2 real world examples that he knows very little about, and nothing in this book is relavant to marketing. I want my money back.

A Fresh Approach That Can Jump Start Your Thinking.......2007-02-26

When I picked up "PyroMarketing" I expected to find another forced metaphor presentation of basic marketing principles.

The book has a bit of that.. but I quickly found the power of Stielstra approach. The 4 steps are presented in contrast to more standard reviews and were easy to follow in a fresh approach to marketing thought.

It's familiar territory, but Stielstra's passion for modern branding and promotion done right, and the examples of the powerful campaigns he reviews have stuck in my mind and ignited a bonfire of ideas for my own projects.

If you want to see a product or new idea catch fire and grow exponentially, "PyroMarketing" is a great place to start.

I picked up this book out of the blue and thought it could help me in a new marketing position I was starting. I was right. I learned so much while reading this book that I could hardly put it down. I am now using the principles in this book in my new position with success.
