I am telling you if u have never read any of gary larson's books or comics, you have to start right now. The things are just pure genius i tell you. I mean some you wont get until you got and read them over but that is the beauty of these things. Haiya if u dont have any buy one today and see what i'm talking about. This is one the best buys u could have.
Best Far Side book ever!.......1999-04-30
Each page outdoes the next. I read this late at night, and nearly exploded trying not to laugh out loud so as not to wake up my mother. The strangest, the funniest, the best of the Far Side books.

This is probably the only book of it's kind that gets into the many details of what happens in the daily activity of moving the nations goods from the manufacturer or producer to the distributer or final destination. There are many routines and special skills that must be developed to be a successful truck driver, whether he or she is going to be local or long haul. This book identifies many of these in detail so that the reader may understand that even though common sense plays a large part in trucking, there are many little things that make the difference between mediocrity and a job well done: success or failure.

Not very good.......2006-07-08
In this book only one view, that of driving a reefer, is highlighted. Almost no mention of flatbeds, car carriers, etc.
Urban myths are used as facts such as getting shot by gangs when flashing headlights at them and techniques are mixed up. Gordon recommends using the stab technique when going down mountains. The correct technique is snubbing the brakes, totally different from stabbing them.
The worst part is encouraging trainers to use students as a team to make more money for the trainer. This is a terrible way to teach. The trainer should never be in the sleeper when the student is operating the truck. The student gets a small salary for the week and the trainer gets paid for all the miles the truck runs. Very greedy IMO.
There is some good advice in the book but the bad out weighs the good.
Very informative and useful trucking information.......2001-07-30
I'm thrilled I bought this book! As a newly retired military member I'm interested in becoming a truck driver. This book taught me that I would actually make more money as a driver trainer-something I never thought about before. The author has written an incredibly comprehensive and informative book that really explains what life as a truck driver/ driver trainer is like. It has helped me gain insight into trucking that I never would've realized before reading this book. I highly recommend this to anyone considering a trucking career! It has been most helpful to me in my decision.

Great satifying read.......2004-09-25
It's hard to review "Usagi Yojimbo" books, which is why I've never done one before, even though I've read nearly all of the series. It's just because Stan Sakai produces some of the most consistently entertaining and satisfying reads in the comic book marketplace. So you can rave about one book, and in essence, rave about all.
Which isn't to say that no one book stands out. They do, for different reasons. But there is such a deceptively simple and straightforward quality to this series, that at some point, a reader just takes for granted that you're getting something good, because you always do.
For those unfamiliar, Myamoto Usagi is a masterless samurai, a ronin, who travels feudal Japan seeking adventure. And he's an anthropomorphic rabbit. Indeed, every character is a "funny" animal. But don't let that put you off. The funny animals are just a means of making the series more distinct. Sakai's stories are still very basic and recognizable stories of human beings living, and dying, in a precarious and decadent time and place.
The stories found in volume 7 are perfect examples of Sakai's gift. The centerpiece is "Gen", in which Sakai finally reveals the tragic origins of Usagi's fellow ronin and (mostly) friend, Gen (a rhino). Gen has been (and continues to be) a skilled fighter, who never let's anything stand between him and his pay-off. But when the two samurai have a chance encounter with a dishonored lady bent on revenge, we finally learn how Gen came to be such a great fighter and why he's taken such a cynical view of the world. The story proves touching and tragic, and makes Gen more sympathetic in the reader's eyes.
Other stories include "Kitsune", introducing a young (cat)woman who's street peformances aid her primary source of income: theft. Kitsune has appeared in subsequent volumes, sharing and amusing and frustrating relationship with Usagi. In her second story, "The Return of Kistune", Kistune inadvertently uses her fast fingers to obtain a letter incriminating the local magistrate. Naturally, the chase in on, and Usagi comes to her rescue.
There is a touch of the supernatural involved in these stories as well, as Usagi encounters vengeful ghosts in his childhood, battles a cannibal demon eating samurai on the run, and helps a ghost to his final rest.
This book provides a pretty good sample of your average Usgai volume. While you don't need to read them in order to appreciate them (I didn't) it does underline the bigger picture that Sakai is painting to do so. They're all back in print, so go get them.

The breakup of Yugoslavia triggered a truly international filmmaking project. Underground, Ulysses' Gaze, Before the Rain, Pretty Village, Pretty Flame and Welcome to Sarajevo were among a host of films created as the conflicts in the region unraveled. These conflicts restored the Balkans as a centrepiece of western imagery, and the media (especially cinema) assumed a leading but ambiguous role in defining the region for global consumption through a narrow range of selectively defined images. Simultaneously, much of the high-quality cinematic and television work made in the area (much of it discussed in this book) remains relatively unknown.
Cinema of Flames attempts to go deeper than the imagery and address some of the general concerns of the cross-cultural representation and self-representation of the Balkans. Narrative strategies within the context of Balkan exclusion from the European cultural sphere, the cosmopolitan image of Sarajevo, diaspora, and the representations of villains, victims, women, and ethnic minorities are all considered in the general context of Balkan cinema.

The current state of the real estate market and looming foreclosures promises the foreclosure market will be booming in the near future. Now is a great time to start learning about this investment opportunity, and Dallow's book is a good place to begin. Dallow discusses the foreclosure process and provides in-depth info on these important subjects, among others:
Figuring out where to find properties for sale.
Assessing closing costs.
The need for a lawyer.
Calculating a good bid.
Estimating repair costs.
This is a good read. For more information on achieving financial success, you may want to read "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.
Confusing but studded with gems here and there..........2004-12-04
The review stating this book is confusing in places is right on the money. I'm a second year medical student and still had to draw out diagrams and read some pages several times. The author is in Real Estate, not writing. That being said, there is a good deal to be learned here. I've read several "High Energy" Real Estate books that gloss over the potential difficulties to investing, but this book HIGHLIGHTS them and steers you clear. The recommendations about "Deed In Lieu of Foreclosure" and REOs are terrific. I would recommend this book simply on the merit of a realistic outlook to Real Estate investing.
One caveat, I own no Real Estate myself and still am in the education phase of investing, so I cannot comment on real world applicability. If you are interested in other books that have more conservative view of Real Estate, try Investing In Real Estate, 4th Edition and How to Succeed and Make Money with Your First Rental House by Douglas A. Keipper. These are very good and provide many details.
Much better than more popular books.......2004-10-02
I don't know what the negative reviewers have read to call this book vague or undetailed. It is the MOST step-by-step, complete guide to understanding the foreclosure process and buying foreclosures available. And it doesn't rely on shady, unethical methods that attempt to hoodwink distressed homeowners and fool banks in "subject to" agreements which can put the unsuspecting investing novice into very hot water. The methods in this book are straightforward, legal, and even ethical. If you are looking at buying foreclosures to buy a home to own, to get a great deal and move up in the world, or to invest, BUY THIS BOOK!!
How to Buy Foreclosed Real Estate by Darrow.......2004-08-23
The author explains classic reasons for foreclosures.
i.e. marital discord He indicates that deeding a property
to the new owner can be simpler than going through the many
details of the foreclosure process. Tax sales provide a
perspective owner with the right to acquire a property when the
1-2 year statutory period for redemption has tolled. HUD homes
can be purchased for the title cost and recording the deed.
The author cautions us to inspect the property thoroughly and
do a title search. In addition, it is critical to isolate
critical repairs which can add significant value to a property.
The book is worth the price charged if you are patient and
willing to implement the techniques explained by the author.
Not Very Detailed.......2004-01-31
This is very average book. It will help you a little bit but it doesn't give you all the info you need to make such a risky decision. It skims through, not giving much detail on process, nor explaining how to make a profit. The set up of the book is pretty confusing. Doesn't seem to flow, it jus jumps around & will make you confused. The one good thing about the book is that it does do a very good job on giving you the pit-falls of investing in a foreclosed property. That's the biggest asset of this book, I think!
