Book Description
Chilean painter Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren, a major figure in the twentieth-century Surrealist movement, was one of the few Latin American artists to achieve international fame. Living an itinerant life in North and South America as well as Europe, Matta established connections with many renowned artists and writers who were his contemporaries. The essays in Matta: Making the Invisible Visible utilize Matta as a microcosmic example that challenges accepted perceptions of Latin American artists and the reception of their work.
Five distinguished scholars analyze various aspects of Roberto Matta's life and career. The essay topics include a tracing of Matta's position in the Surrealist and the Abstract Expressionist movements, an exploration of the Latin American Catholic impulse in his work, and an exposition of the connections between Matta's work and the writings of Freud. The volume also features full-color reprints of some of Matta's most brilliant works. Offering intriguing insights into Latin American art and literature, this catalogue is a rich resource on Roberto Matta and twentieth-century modern art.

Does not have the CD.......2007-05-30
This book is supposed to come with a CD for kids with great Jazz music. I ordered 3 books for gifts and not one came with the CD. The book is nothing without it.
My Baby's Favorite Book.......2006-08-02
My husband and I received Nicky the Jazz Cat as a gift from a close friend before our baby was born. Our baby is only five months old but this has been her favorite book for three months already. Her eyes light up every time she sees the cute cat on the cover. It's the right length for bedtime reading - not too short and not too long - and has wonderful pictures and interesting varied fonts to get your child interested in words and letters, as well as several musical instruments and important jazz musicians. We read Nicky the Jazz Cat, Goodnight Moon, and Hush Little Baby as our routine and our baby has been sleeping through the night very regularly.
I'd especially recommend this book for the young children (up to three years old) of anyone who is into jazz, or is a jazz musician.
Superior Treatment of Jazz for Kids.......2006-03-08
Carol Friedman blends her photographic art, her cat Nicky and her love for jazz in this easy to read treatment of this musical genre for children. Photographs of major jazz musicians (Quincy Jones, Lena Horne, Lionel Hampton, Roy Eldridge ...) alongside her cat Nicky capture the attention of youngsters. The vocabulary is hip, fun and informative. This is one of the better books about jazz for young children.
This Book is Great!.......2006-01-30

Nicky the Jazz Cat is a great book. I really like the pictures. This book made me get the jazz. This book has some rhyming. I REALLY like this book.
Nicky is a black cat. This book is funny too. There are six people who are in it--Roy, Quincy, Lena, Gerry, Abbey and Hamp-- who are famous musicians or singers.
He's one hep cat.......2004-09-06
This book and its companion CD, "Nicky's Jazz for Kids" make a perfect gift for anyone who loves jazz, loves cats, or loves cats and jazz. My 5 y.o. daughter enjoys reading the book to us and equally loves hearing the great tunes on the CD. It's a welcome change from the standard saccharine children's music. Splurge on both items--Nicky won't disappoint!

Have a Jazzy Merry Christmas.......2006-12-14
I love this latest Nicky book! The design is perfect; the photos of Nicky endearing. The fun poetry in playful multi-sized fonts of different colors, some shimmering gold, is filled with intertwined Christmas and jazz imagery. Like snowflakes, jazzy mittens, Santa, the reindeer boogie woogie, angels and of course, cool cats in a bebop wonderland. I'll read it on Christmas Eve to my three young nephews, all Nicky book and cd fans. Then we'll dance, prance, sing and strut to Nicky's Jazz Christmas companion cd as we put finishing touches on the Christmas tree.
We love it...get it under your tree!.......2006-12-05
Confessed Nicky fans that we are, my friends and I have already bought several copies of "Nicky's Jazz Christmas" for upcoming holiday gifts, but we couldn't wait until Christmas to give it to our 2 and a half year old Nicky groupie. The latest in Carol Friedman's amazing series, this book is packed with adorable Nicky photos (not to mention poetic Christmas imagery) which our daughter personally narrates to us from the next room--what he's doing, wearing or saying-- and then she'll spontaneously sing a few phrases from Louis Prima's "Music goes Round and Around" from the Nicky's Jazz for Kids CD. (She's still learning the Christmas songs on the new CD). We couldn't be happier about the influence these books and CD's have had on her, and can't recommend Nicky's new Jazzy Christmas (and all the other Nicky products) enough. And even though I'm one of those complainers about too much Christmas music, I've already got the accompanying CD going in the car. It's adorable... our favorite Christmas CD so far.
Book Description
I photographed my cat Nicky with legendary Jazz artists for nearly two decades. This collection of pictures became Nicky The Jazz Cat, and Nicky ended up being a cool little jazz ambassador for children—teaching kids about the magic of jazz, the value of friends and mentors, and the power of imagination and originality. I thought it would be fun to share a bit about Nicky's jazz genesis here. A Cool Cat's Journey tells the story of how Nicky came to meet and be photographed with his musician buddies and how he became a cool jazz cat. Fans can also sneak a peek at an exclusive Nicky portfolio of never-before-seen pictures with classical, soul, rock and rap icons—Nicky hung out with the best of them before he settled into his full time jazz groove….

The First Volume of Stray Bullets.......2006-01-31
The first volume of Stray Bullets collects issues 1-7 of the series, and I was surprised by how good this book was. The start of this volume hooks you to the story, and one learns more about the characters through an ever changing time frame in this volume. The volume starts in 1997, and the second story takes place in 1977. I certainly would recommend this series, and I am personally going to continue to the read the books.
another excellent volume.......2005-03-05
The Collected Stray Bullets, Volume 8 is another excellent book in this crime comic series by David Lapham. As always, the art and the writing are top notch. Volume 8 actually improves a bit over the past couple of volumes, as the stories had been getting a little convoluted and meandering. In this book, several of the issues and conflicts raised in previous volumes are resolved. In particular, the story of Virginia Applejack is brought full circle to where it first began in Volume 1. There are also appearances by Beth, Monster, Bobby, and Roger (the cop). If you have been reading and enjoying these books all along, you will certainly appreciate this addition to your collection.
A few caveats. This book is not the place to start! If you are new to Stray Bullets, you should go back to Volume 1 and read them in order. OK, this is not absolutely essential, because the stories do pop back and forth across time, but it will deepen your experience of this volume. Another caveat is that the book is a bit dark and gruesome. This series is not for kids. Finally, of the four stories, I'd have to say that the last installment was a bit weak. It's interesting enough, but it introduces some new characters and doesn't fit well after all of the plot resolution in the previous stories. That's a minor quibble though. Overall, this is a very good read.
Superb.......2003-03-29
"The Collected Stray Bullets" is among the finest noir I've ever seen or read, and I've seen and read quite a lot.
Flawless Noir Tales- Cool Beans........2003-02-24
I don't remember why I initially picked up my first issue of Stray Bullets, I'm just incredibly happy that I did. Except for my frantic, nervous search for every new issue that comes out, this book is a pure joy. Filled With incredibly real and fleshed out characters, who may not all be too likable, but who can all grab my attention without losing it for a second. Weaving between times and setting, between reality and fantasy this book is crafted absolutely flawlessly, and is among the greatest Crime-Noir books that have been made.

Book Description
We all have a little bit of Dick Cheney in us, and Jeremy Hutchins wants to help. In this hilariously illustrated, helpfully prescriptive guide to loving your inner Cheney, Hutchins shares his revolutionary plan.
First, he helps to diagnose the problem:
* Are you unable to identify and express feelings?
* Have you been won over by the darker forces?
* Are you addicted to secrecy and power?
Then, he offers a comprehensive plan to embrace the Cheney within:
* Instead of going out and blasting away defenseless little creatures, learn to love the animals, and pet them while you can.
* Small is Beautiful: You don't need to take over the world. Sometimes the smallest things can be most precious, like a hug or a flower.
* Instead of planting information, try planting a garden.
* Submit to the Higher Power (even if you think you are the Higher Power).
The perfect antidote to the coming tedious Election season, Loving the Cheney Within will be poking out of back pockets, purses, and hip sacks, from Williamsburg to San Francisco.
Customer Reviews:
Hillarious - will have you bucking with laughter!.......2004-07-26
Brimming with sarcasm, LOVING THE CHENEY WITHIN is a wry and twisted cartoon commentary on politics, psychology and popular culture. Hutchins really seems to have his finger on the pulse of today's disaffected voters and this book will be well-thumbed on any coffee table, bathroom reading table, or waiting room during the upcoming election season. Recommended!!!
totally offensive and distasteful!.......2004-07-26
This book is nothing but pure slander. Mr. Hutchins should be ashamed to calll the good character of our Vice President into question! I urge everyone to avoid this book!
Laugh Out Loud.......2004-07-08
Loving the Cheney Within is so hysterically funny, it is impossible for the reader to avoid laughing out loud. It may be inadvisable to read it in a public place like on a bus, or in a waiting room, unless you don't mind the stares that your involuntary chuckling may foster.
It is a rare book that gets the social commentary message across, while simultaneously amusing and engaging.

Ever since Pauline Kael wrote her controversial essay "Raising Kane" (available in print in her omnibus collection For Keeps), film fans and scholars have debated the "authorship" of Citizen Kane. Most audiences and critics agree that it is one of the greatest American movies, but Kael claimed that the genius behind Kane was not writer-director-producer-actor Orson Welles, but coscenarist Herman Mankiewicz. Others attribute the film's power to the influence and contributions of John Houseman or the incredible innovations of cinematographer Gregg Toland. In this superbly researched book, Robert Carringer proves conclusively that Kane is not the product of any individual artist, but the collective work of a brilliant team working under Welles's supervision. Without Mankiewicz, Toland, and the talented designers and technicians who worked on the film, Kane could never have become what it is. As Carringer covers each step of the film's production, from conception to final release, he leads readers through the enormously complex process of making a great movie. He also provides an introductory chapter about an unfilmed project Welles worked on before Kane, an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. In his concluding chapter on The Magnificent Ambersons, Welles's follow-up to Kane, Carringer argues that the latter film suffered precisely because its collaborators failed to achieve the artistic harmony that had made Kane so successful. --Raphael Shargel
Book Description
Citizen Kane, widely considered the greatest film ever made, continues to fascinate critics and historians as well as filmgoers. While credit for its genius has traditionally been attributed solely to its director, Orson Welles, Carringer's pioneering study documents the shared creative achievements of Welles and his principal collaborators. The Making of Citizen Kane, copiously illustrated with rare photographs and production documents, also provides an in-depth view of the operations of the Hollywood studio system. This new edition includes a revised preface and overview of criticism, an updated chronology of the film's reception history, a reconsideration of the locus of responsibility of Welles's ill-fated The Magnificent Ambersons, and new photographs.
Customer Reviews:
easily the best book about Citizen Kane!.......2003-06-24
Carringer's exhaustive tome on the making of Orson Welles' signature film covers all the bases: from its rocky road to inception (covering Welles' fascinating attempt to adapt Conrad's HEART OF DARKNESS into a movie) to every conceivable aspect of the production and post-production. This is required reading for any Welles fan and an invaluable tool for anybody who has to write an essay on CITIZEN KANE.
Carringer's writing style is engaging and eloquent without being too academic. He doesn't bombard the reader with a million esoteric film terms but instead instills his prose with an infectious passion for his subject. Reading this book will make you want to re-discover KANE all over again -- which is what a good film book should do!
This is a great companion book with the awesome two-DVD set of KANE that was release a little while ago.
who could resist this.......2000-04-02
Who could resist the behind the scenes making of the greatest movie of all time. This book is excellent it covers every thing you need or would want to know about the film. It is very well told and crafted. If you loved the movie you'll be fascinated by this book.

Not for HRMS.......2006-02-21
I purchased this book mainly for HRMS. But there is a very small section denoted for it. I think the book is ok for the other modules, but definitely not for HRMS. It also doesnt cover OTL, Self Service or OTA.
Nice consise intro - more useful for clients than consultants.......2005-08-22
The scope of this book is so huge there's just no way it could be anything other than a consise intro to the major functionality of each of the modules. For me (as an Apps Consultant) it's a decorative paperweight. I never refer to it myself however this is the book I always toss to the clients when there is no budget for any training whatsoever and some poor accountant has to switch to Oracle from another ERP - it's certainly easier to understand than the help screens ;)
Overall I liked it - I think the guys from BOSS did a nice job summarising the financial applications. Of course, it's getting a bit out of date now but for an accountant it's worthwhile.
Excellent Reference for Oracle 11i ERP implementation team.......2002-12-29
This book gives an excellent overview of the non-CRM modules in Oracle 11i suite - Financials, HRMS, Manufacturing, Projects. What is refreshing about this book is in addition to information on 11i, this book also provides thoughtful discussions on Project Management and on consulting. The authors have indeed succeeded in packaging these exhaustive material within one volume. This book is a "must have" as a reference for anyone who is involved in ERP implementation project.
Hopefully we will soon have a similar book on CRM modules that includes inter-relationship between different ERP-CRM modules.
Not for most developers.......2001-11-21
This book does not provide the level of detail that would help most Apps developers. This book is designed more for functional analysts responsible for setups, than for developers who need to understand the underlying architecture and functionalities. Most of the content of this book can easily be gathered from Oracle User Guides. This book also tries to cover too many modules, but fails to provide much detail in any areas.
Good overview of Oracle 11i.......2001-10-05
The fact that authors have attempted to even write a book about Oracle Financials-Manufacturing-Projects-HRMS deserves credit. The initial section tries to appeal to the "higher management" of any Erp Implementation covering Project Management. Then it gives an overview of module by module of the Oracle 11i suite with special emphasis on what's new on 11i. The breadth of coverage is high but the depth leaves a lot demanding. To be fair to the authors, it is almost impossible to cover depth in each module in 11i because probably 50 volumes would required and because every implementation is unique.
Most of the Erp Implementation have solution providers who know the basics of the setup and ilk but what they are looking for is examples and that is what, I did not find in the book. There is a mention of existence of interfaces and APIs but no examples are forthcoming in the text.
Apart from the 11i, the information provided on consultants is interesting. There is a need for a book in Erps - Oracle , SAP or Peoplesoft that displays numerous example of implementation from start to finish. Unlike Excel or Word which have a low barrier to entry in terms of neuron consumptions, ERP require significant investment of time and experience and creative ideas to be even be at level, where one can barely float on the ocean of erp. Learning by examples is the best route and I am sure soon there will be specific books by some who will target piece by piece (module by module) the entire erp with some examples. May be we will have books module by module with explanation, soon!
