Fascinating and Unique.......2003-10-21

This book provides a glimpse into one of the most esoteric, but interesting of fields--art history. Some of the greats in the field were interviewed and their work analyzed. It is fascinating reading for anyone who loves art. It also shows what a challenge it is to do this work well. It is an excellent, informative read.

A beautiful and insightful book.......2000-05-03

I couldn't put this book down once I started to read it. It reveals how art historians do their work in a highly readable and insightful format with wonderful images. The book is beautifully designed. It is the result of interviews with a number of the most prominent art historians in the world. For students of art it is essential. For anyone interested in art, it is wonderful reading. The authors have protected the anonymity of their interviewees (darn it!) but the quotes will keep anyone knowledgable in the field guessing.

great student book for beginner.......2002-09-24

Yes it has some typos, but get real, some of these reviews are ridiculous.

This is a great Book to learn UNIX, even the best I'd say.
It really starts from scratch and even gets into some Shell programming and scripts. I was impressed with the content, and being a Programmer analyst I will say it is an excellent book for those people starting out. I also like the Oreilly UNIX in a nutshell for a good reference.

IF those Unix "gurus" complaining could just shed some light on what is the best book then??? typical

I think this is a very good textbook for UNIX beginners. It is very easy to understand.

Too Many Typos.......2000-08-26

Overall a good introduction to the Unix Operating System, but the typographical errors are unforgiveable. The command line orientation of Unix is cumbersome enough without mistyped examples. Potentially frustrating for first time users, this book is in dire need of revision.

UNIX Unbounded: A Beginning Approach.......2000-03-12

Frustrating and exhausting reading. If you want to decipher the author's poor English, inconsistencies, incomplete examples and incorrect examples, then have at it. Seems like an attempted translation into English. Totally worthless for technical training. Author's good intention to provide tutorial sessions failed miserably with typos and syntax errors. If your professor is using this so-called textbook: Buy Another Unix Textbook. You'll be better off. Waste of my time and $.

A very good and useful book.......1999-06-20

This book is very useful for beginner. The whole book contents many examples which make Unix more understandable.

a fun read.......2003-10-22

I bought both of the Lone Wolf trade paper backs and am quite pleased with them. The first is good, but The Language of Chaos is more fluent, and much more enjoyable to read. I wont spoil the plot too much, but it leaves a lot of room for violence, which is good or bad, however you look at it. For me, it's very good. The art is stunning most of the time, especialy the color and depth.

I was also reffered to Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima through the forward in the Lone Wolf 2100 series. If you enjoy Lone Wolf 2100, you will enjoy Lone Wolf and Cub even more. It is a VERY long series, with 26 volumes i believe, but the story is very well written and alot of the subjects are even thought provoking.

I give Lone Wolf 2100 3 stars because the main story line is rather bland, and not thought out as well as it could be. Even in spite of that, I would suggest you buy or atleast find this to read.

inaccurate translation - but interesting.......1999-06-20

This is an interesting book filled with proverbs that reverberate of a lost time when the Jewish community was in small villages throughout Poland and elsewhere.. The difficulty with this book is that some of the translations are inaccurate and if one know Yiddish, this is disappointing. The Author should use literal translation rather than trying to translate to some ill conceived "idiom" of language.. The Yiddish stands up on its own in translation..

What a Ride!.......1998-04-01

As a Yiddish enthusiast of the highest rank, I am truly moved to tears by the quiet, nay, noble countenance of this humble book. Answers to all of life's questions are contained in this Yiddish tome. Had Napoleon acknowledged his Yiddish forebears, he might have won Waterloo!! This book puts the 'Id' back in Yiddish.

Comprehensive yet lacks the spirit of the person.......1997-06-23

Garry Jenkins has written a thorough book on the life of a man who is, arguably,one of the greatest thespian talents in modern times; however, it is obviously without input from its subject, Daniel Day-Lewis. This book does give interesting detail of the romance of Day-Lewis' parents, (his father was Poet Laureate Cecil Day Lewis; his mother, a member of the Balcon family theater dynasty), as well as the story of the actor's odd aristocratic upbringing. The rest is merely information that a fan could have gleaned from various media resources, especially entertainment magazines. In Jenkins' defense, Daniel Day-Lewis, just turned forty, is very much a developing subject. The author, currently writing a sequel, is fortunate in that respect

The DS9 Core Book.......2000-01-13

This is an excellent book for the RPG world of Star Trek which has just so recently come out. A must have for all "Trekkies" and RPG buffs. A great sourcebook to add to your others. Excellent for MUSHes and the like. It deserves five stars.

This is a must have if you want to run a campaign in the DS9 portion of the terrific game by Unicorn. It contains a gamemaster screen with tables for weapons, movement, maneuvers and more. It also contains a book which helps to develop a good story line with excellant background info on Bajorians, Cardies, and Ferengi. If you don't have it...get it. I love mine.

I purchased this book to supplement my course materials for my mba class. It was the perfect compliment to my research and explained the material nicely, foregoing the often complicated and alienating academic language for common wording and explanations. Truly easy to read and informative!

Clarity from an invisible fog..........2007-01-08

The invisible fog is trying to solve a problem that can't be solved. It is a fog because the solutions don't work, and it is invisible because focusing on solutions prevents seeing that there isn't a problem to be solved. There is no magic bullet here, and Johnson acknowledges that. What is here are tools for coping with (managing) dualities or polarities inherent in many troublesome situations. Johnson provides the clarity to get above the fog and find a way to address (manage) the situation.

The concepts and underlying explanation are a solid 5-star.
Four stars because I found just a bit too much padding/repetition for a 5 star book.

Helpful, practical insights into organizational dynamics........2006-03-22

This book really shows how we become stuck in dilemmas and static thinking, and how we can instead move at one with change. I am finding it tremendously helpful in analyzing entrenched organizational dysfunction that persists in spite of the efforts of well-meaning managers.

Seminars.......2003-11-25

I have not read his book yet. Our company has utilized his seminars and what a difference! We are using the Polarity map in meetings, conferences, and now in my personal life. This is a great tool for any organization or individual that is either in a struggle or is successful - you walk away with more than a tool but a way of looking at your professional and personal life.

Most enlightening.......2000-03-13

Polarity Management is one of my favorite "business" books of all time. Johnson's theory, which explains the dynamics of polarized issues, is so simple yet so comprehensive. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand why major issues can be so divisive and how we can move forward when we seem to be at a standstill.
