Book Description
Description: Views from Lookout Mountain is the first book to survey the films and visual art works of one of Los Angeles' most exceptional artists. It locates Pat O'Neill's masterful films in a visual arts context, where the works can be most fully appreciated as powerful projections of temporal painting, aural composition, and visual poetry. Book Description
Dave Stoecklein started photographing cowgirls for his calendars fifteen years ago, always hoping that, one day, he would be able to put together a book. That day finally arrived. In Cowgirls, you will meet some of the most genuine and confident cowgirls of today's American
West. The beautiful women in these photographs are working cowgirls; all of them ride and are devoted to their horses.
Customer Reviews:
COWGIRLS RULE.......2002-01-09
I purchased this book after looking at it in a bookstore. The authors' photpgraphy is amazing. Now I want all of his books! This book makes me want to be a cowgirl when I grow up (I'm 42). I have to say that I don't agree with one of the other reviewers' comments, in that who WOULDN'T get gussied up if they knew they were going to be photographed? I really don't think there is a way to get permission from the subjects ahead of time and have no way of tipping them off. Sure, I really don't think they all wear satin western shirts everyday out on the range to work. But why not have some fun? The book covers it all, the dirt, the glamour, the muck, the glory and the beauty of being a strong, hardworking female. Women are strong, but they can be feminine while being so. I LOVE THE BOOK. There is something in there for everyone. KUDOS to David Stoecklein, and please keep the great stuff coming!
Awesome!!.......2001-12-21
Being raised on a ranch in Nevada, and being a "cowgirl" myself, I can tell you that this book represents the TRUE cowgirl better than anything I have ever seen. Mr. Stoecklein has an eye for beauty, and he knows what true ranch life is like, and he has combined the two perfectly. These women are true blue ranch women, not models who are made to look like ranch women. I know this for a fact as I have competed against several of them and am familiar with the ranches in the book. If you want a look at beautiful women who are genuine Cowgirls, this is the book for you. Thank you Mr. Stoecklein, for showing the rest of the world the REAL cowgirls of the west. Great job!!
Disappointing.......2000-06-08
Hoping to experience cowgirls the way I'd experienced cowboys in Stoecklein's other books, I eagerly purchased this title. Unfortunately, though the photographs are excellently taken (like all of the author's works), it left much to be desired for me. Most of the women portrayed could be any random model who decided to deck out in chaps and cowboy boots, and really, how many times do we have to snap a shot of the back pockets of the cowgirl's jeans? The poses don't seem natural to me and the women are made up way too much for my tastes. Apparently photo shoot day was announced ahead of time to these girls. There are a few exceptions. One gal in Montana does indeed look like she just came in from rounding up the cattle and the action photos of a bronc rider are amazing, but these are few and far between. I was looking for a book that showed the real nitty gritty of women in ranching and rodeo. If you're looking for something like that try "Cowgirls - Women of the American West" by Teresa Jordan, or "Cowgirls - Contemporary Portraits of the American West" by Ronny Farley.
Look at this book!.......2000-04-11
I have to give this guy props on his photography. Most of the images were with 35mm slide film and the quality of photographs he took are really outstanding. The photographs are technically about perfect and the women are also gorgeous. They're a different kind of sensuous photographs that you don't see very often. Just a really awesome picture portfolio!
Go Ahead--Indulge Yourself.......2000-03-29
I'm not a big fan of coffee-table books, but Stoecklein's photographs here are simply delightful. This compilation is a fine tribute to the mythos of the cowgirl: earthy and erotic, rugged and romantic, sexy and, above all, beautiful. The stuff, as Shakespeare would say, that dreams are made of.

I met Nobby on the Big Island of Hawai'i over Thanksgiving 2004. We played Hualalai early one morning. What a cool guy. I read the book that afternoon and enjoyed it very much. If you are a golfer, this book is for you.

What Great Stuff!! This man is truly a Golf Nut!! His stories and antics will keep you laughing! I just can't believe some of the things he's done! How has his wife ever put up with him through all of this! This is a must read for any golfer!!

'Golf is a Funny Disease' is one of the funniest book's I've ever read. What makes me identify with Nobby is that I can see myself doing some of the crazy stuff he's done. Imagine, playing golf in London, New York and Los Angeles on the same day. Besides the jokes, some of the things that have actually happened to him on the golf course are absolutely hilarious!

Book Description
A generation of Australians have conquered Hollywood, and this collection showcases the wealth and diversity of talent they bring to both sides of the camera. The A-list of stars includes critically acclaimed actor Geoffrey Rush, big and small screen actress Portia di Rossi, character actor Hugo Weaving, award-winning director Phillip Noyce, and blockbuster star Nicole Kidman. In-depth interviews are provided in which the stars describe the glamour as well as the business of Hollywood, how they shot—or climbed—to the top, and how they've dealt with fame. Some, it is revealed, ambitiously pursued fame while for others Hollywood came knocking. Moving beyond personal stories, the book explores why so many of the best and brightest of Oz have risen to stardom in the States. Filled with red carpet moments and board room details, this thoughtful exposé sheds new light on a trend that shows no signs of letting up.

Inspiring look at some of today's biggest movie stars.......2006-02-23
It's incredible how many Aussies dominate our movies now. This is a great read about how they did it. The stars interviewed for this book are huge - Eric Bana, Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush, Naomi Watts, directors and many more. The interviews are quite candid and the authors don't gush over their subjects like magazine articles do. Anthony LaPaglia and Heath Ledger's stories are particularly interesting. There's good gossip for fans, great tips for aspiring actors and directors and inspiring tales for anyone else. Another great Australian export!

Book Description
High-Low-Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-or-Better For Advanced Players by Ray Zee is the third book in the "For Advanced Players" series. It is really books 3 and 4 for two reasons. First, many of the concepts are similar for both games. Second, players mastering one game can easily make the transition to the other.
Some of the ideas discussed in the seven-card stud eight-or-better section include starting hands, when an ace raises, disguising your hand on third street, play on fourth street, fifth street, sixth street, seventh street, position, bluffing, staying to the end, and scare cards. Some of the ideas discussed in the Omaha eight-or-better section include general concepts, position, low hands, high hands, your starting hand, how to play your hand, play on the flop, multiway versus short handed play, scare cards, getting counterfeited, and your playing style.
Customer Reviews:
Good stuff.......2007-08-05
There are no good books out there on how to play Omaha 8 or better. The closest to good books are this one and Todd Brunsons section in SuperSystem. This covers enough to get you rolling and gives good principles on play, as opposed to specific advice.
Definitely worth getting if you're going to play split pot games.
east to understand.......2006-05-29
this book is like no other 2+2 book~ its well edited.
having been a seven card stud h/l play for 7 years my game started to have leaks, this book plugged them.
if you are wanted to learn stud hi/lo read todd brunsons chapter in SS2 play and then pick up this book.
the omaha hi/lo section is not bad, still is missing something but one of the better book writen on the subject.
Typical 2+2 book: thought-provoking, but a little short on hard data.......2006-05-18
I originally bought this 'cause I've been playing seven-card stud and was curious about Stud/8, but reading the Omaha/8 section motivated me into learning it first.
I've read most of the relevant 2+2 Publishing poker books (and some of the irrelevant ones) and this seems fairly typical of the genre. They don't tend to give specific advice about specific hands, but describe strategy in more general terms and help players to start asking the right questions.
The Stud/8 half is more comprehensive than the Omaha/8 half, but I feel both sections give pretty decent introductions to their respective games. While they don't, for example, list specific starting hands (a common complaint) I didn't have any trouble figuring out what to play; the beginning chapter in each section goes into the this in sufficient detail. They're "for advanced players" but I didn't have any trouble understanding any of them, and I'm most definitely a fishy newbie when it comes to poker.
I really appreciate the "question and answer" sections. The questions serve as helpful reminders, which is exactly what they're supposed to be. If there's a question you don't understand, it's easy to hop back to the relevant section in the main text and read in more detail what he's talking about.
My biggest issue, and it's a common problem with most of the 2+2 books, is the lack of basic information like hand probabilities. I find this surprising because of the emphasis placed in their books (Sklansky's Theory of Poker et al) on probability math in general and issues such as pot odds. If you don't know how likely it is your hand will hold up or what the chances are of, say, hitting a flush, it's nearly impossible to determine if you're getting enough of a return to make a call/bet worthwhile.
In general I think their books could be much better, but I must admit they're currently the most rigorous introduction to poker play I've been able to find. If you're just starting out with Stud/8 or Omaha/8, or you're an intermediate player looking for ways to improve, I think Ray Zee's book will be useful. If you're hoping for a "gentle" introduction to these games you're in the wrong place--and you might want to rethink your poker career, because poker isn't and never will be all that easy to learn.
Other suggestions: Bob Ciaffone's Omaha book has a practical section on Omaha/8, and I believe the latest version goes into it in even more detail. He's an excellent writer and his books are well worth checking out.
You might also try Tenner and Krieger, but I wasn't that impressed. Cappeletti's Omaha book is a jumbled mess, it gives me a headache just to look at it. The SS/2 section isn't awful, but can be summed up as: "always draw to the nuts, play good starting hands".
Necessary Reading for all good O8 players.......2004-12-21
This is the book which has been read by all the Pros. If you do not read it you are at a major disadvantage. In fact at the higher limits its impossible to play well without reading the section on starting hands.
O8 has so many naunces and the shorthand game is completely different from the regular game. Whilst the regular game can become very mechanical with discipline being the key criteria, the shorthanded game is a game of position and anticipation, bluffing (Do you call the bet at the river with A3 does he have A2? etc.) and guts. As your opponent keeps raising can you put him on a high hand or low hand?
With two big bets an hour its twice a profitable as Holdem at the same limits. However there is such a gap between the good and bad players that bad players do not last too long. Therefore the regular O8 games become a grind with the odd "fish" preventing the blinds from eating up everyone.
One weakness of the book is that a comprehensive set of odds tables are not given. For instance if you hold 3 low cards and 2 low cards flop that do not counterfeit your hand you have about a 60% chance of making a low hand by the river. The odds are important to compare to the pot odds & implied odds.
One benefit of the book is introducing you to Hilo 7 Stud. If you like O8 low from the aspect of two way pots you will want to learn Stud 7 Hilo which is useful as you will have two opportunities for a game instead of one. It also adds to and draws from your stud 7 poker knowledge.
Overall the book continues to be the best Hilo book for both games. (...)
bleh.............2004-02-15
After reading the other books from Two Plus Two publishing by Sklansky & Malmuth, I was let down by this offering. I play both Stud 8/b and Omaha 8/b and I can't really say that this book helped me at all. Anyone who's logged any time at the tables knows the basics of live cards in Stud 8/b and drawing to the nuts in O8B. What I found especially irritating was the deceptive size of the book. Zee goes through the teaching sections and then says the EXACT same thing in the "Questions and Answers" section, giving the EXACT same answers. Considering how few good books there are on the subject of high-low poker, I thought surely an offering from Two Plus Two would be the definitive authority, but alas, buy this book and you'll be disappointed.
Book Description
A friend of mine is an excellent High/Low player. He told me, "High/Low split is less forgiving to marginal play than either straight high or Razz." That is true and that what this book is about. Rock solid play backed up by hard statistics. On page 10 and 11 are two statistical tables that changed me from a marginal player to a solid winner. This table will tell you what your percentages are to complete an eight low, a seven low, or a six low if you start with three low cards and get paired on fourth street. This table will tell you your chances of making a low if you get double paired on fifth street. This table is great information that is worth many times the modest cost of this book.
Customer Reviews:
Yes this is not greatest book but it has value.......2005-12-01
I am an 8/b enthusiast, so even though the 1 star reviewer makes valid points, this book still has value, because it emphasizes fundamentals that are essential to becoming a winner such as scooping the pot and avoiding one-way and weak hands. There are errors in the table and the book would benefit from better organization, but I have read everything I could get my hands on for 8/b and I found new and worthwhile information. However, I wouldn't recommend this without first reading other material. A better choice for the intermediate would be Todd Brunson's Chapter in Super System 2. Thanks Todd Brunson, for such a wonderful and concise explanation of the game!
Too little info; poorly organized and explained.......2002-04-04
The useful thing about this book is two pages of tables that show the odds of improving after three, four, five and six cards dealt in 7-card and 7-card high/low split. And there are some good basic points, partially explained, about the different betting rules when fighting for a split pot. However, there are a number of basic useful rules that are omitted (presumably those were covered in his "Intro" book, now out of print) AND he explains that "there are likely some errors" in his statistical tables for "I am not a trained mathematician."
The problem is that the material is poorly written and organized, partially explained and loaded with white space and off-the-topic comments. It is a small book with large, 12-point type and lots of blank space. I counted only 24 pages that actually contained poker information. Writing about "Fifth Street" when drawing on a low flush draw:
"Quite often the fifth street decision is a big one. When a great starting hand has caught some help and still has a chance to sweep, you are pressed to figure the odds and decide if you should continue. Supposed the A-3-6 of hearts has caught a black seven and a diamond queen. Should you play?
"You have counted four hearts that appeared, so there are six not accounted for. One other player has a better low porch than you have. Two fours, one two, and three fives have appeared. It is clear you now have a one-way hand since you only have about a 4% chance for a flush.
"This is one example of the pressure of fifth street. You do not have a good one-way hand, but it might make you a few dollars. You have to decide if it is worth the risk."
You also have to decide whether to buy this book--and that should be an easy decision. ...

Customer Reviews:
is this a joke?.......2004-01-06
I'm not sure if this book is a joke, but if it's not, it should be.
It's obviously written by someone who doesn't speak english. I could get by the absolutely horrible grammar, punctuation, spelling, and incomprehensible english if the advice it was offering was of any value. It's simply not. Here's a quick excerpt:
Taking a brake
as a player you can take a brake at any time remember its your money whether you want to stretch your legs . or go to the rest room or going to eat or what ever reason you just go . but remember to inform the dealer that you are coming back some times players just go and don't come back for an hour when they do come back they find there seat is taking well you must remember there are other players waiting to get in the game .
The punctuation, spelling, capitalization and spacing are exact quotes from the book. I just quickly opened to a random page and typed it in.
My family bought this for me for a Christmas present. I'll certainly be returning it and following whatever means are necessary to complain about this book being for sale on amazon.
Don't bother with this one........2002-06-06
This book is flat out terrible. If you need a book to tell you starting hand rankings that would be obvious to even a novice, go ahead and buy it. If you are looking for sound advice skip this one. The grammar was so poor I decided to see what editor would possibly allow the mistakes, surprise the author published it himself. ...
Not up to par.......2002-05-04
This may be the worst poker book ever written. The stylistic problems are legion. If that was the only problem, I could overlook it. The fact is that there is simply no useful, understandable information to be found here. You're better off with Sklanksy, Malmuth, Jones or Krieger.
Well meaning is not enough.......2002-04-20
Apparently well-intentioned but inept presentation, this is
a step backward in poker publishing. The English syntax alone
is disqualifying. Disappointing, because the world needs a
great book about low-limit high-low split.

Book Description
Resiliency - the ability to adapt to life's changes and crises - is the key to a healthy, productive life. Unfortunately, it's all too easy to get bogged down by feelings of anger and helplessness. The Resiliency Advantage helps readers banish negative, self-defeating thoughts and break free from the roles of "victim" and "good child" while improving problem-solving skills, maintaining humor and optimism during rough times, and becoming both self-reliant and socially responsible. By mastering the five stages of development - sustaining health, energy, and positive feelings; handling challenges; achieving positive self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-concept; honing the skills and attributes of highly resilient people; and developing a talent for serendipity - readers learn to stand up to adversity, overcome obstacles, and meet life head on.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome book.......2007-09-06
This book has been reviewed in detail enough. I can only add my own personal experience. Seibert wrote a simple concise book that pulls no punches and provides an effective plan to help change one's mindset from that of a depressed anxious victim to that of a person who dosen't let things control how they feel without putting up a heck of a fight first.
The Resiliency Advantage.......2007-01-12
After a challenging year in which I have dealt with injury, financial devastation, and diabolical bureaucracy, it was great to be reminded, once again, that the reason I have thrived is largely because I exhibit 100% of the personality traits of a 'survivor'! The exercises included in this book are brilliant and I have recommended the book to many people, including my rehabilitation physician - who has thoroughly enjoyed my approach to everything but is still trying to figure me out! Should be required reading for all high school students and for anyone who is serious about tapping into real human potential. Thanks Al !
Useful.......2007-01-11
This book is very useful for everyone. After all, each of us meets with many challenges everyday.
A practical book the provides valuable tools for confronting life's difficult challenges!!!.......2006-12-30
+++++
Self-rate yourself on a scale from 1 (meaning little agreement) to 5 (meaning strongly agree) on the following ten items:
(1) In a crisis or chaotic situation, I calm myself and focus on taking useful actions.
(2) I'm usually optimistic, seeing difficulties as temporary and believe things will eventually turn out well.
(3) I can tolerate high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity.
(4) I'm good at bouncing back from difficulties and quickly adapt to new developments.
(5) I'm self-confident and have a healthy concept of who I am.
(6) I prefer to work without a written job description since I'm more effective when I'm free to do what I think is best in each situation.
(7) I trust my intuition and "read" people well.
(8) I'm a good listener and have good empathy skills.
(9) I've been made stronger and better by difficult experiences.
(10) I've converted misfortune into good luck and even found benefits in bad experiences.
A low score of (under 25) means your resiliency skills are weak and you would greatly benefit from this amazing, easy-to-read, psychobabble-free book by Dr. Al Siebert, a clinical psychologist and Director of "The Resiliency Center". (`Resiliency' means (i) coping well with ongoing negative change (ii) sustaining good health and energy under constant pressure (iii) bouncing back from setbacks and adversities (iv) changing to a new way of living and working when an old way no longer works (v) and doing all this without acting in harmful ways.)
A middle score of (25 to 45) means your resiliency skills are adequate but probably can be greatly enhanced by using this book.
A high score of (over 45) means you have good resiliency skills and this book will validate many things you are doing right.
This book in a nutshell presents five resiliency "levels" or skills (level four is divided into 4 sub-levels while level 5 is divided into 3 sub-levels) so, in affect, the reader is presented with ten essential resiliency skills that Siebert has distilled from "the emerging new science of resiliency psychology." This book, besides other important things, shows you how to:
(1) Sustain strong, healthy energy in non-stop pressure and change
(2) Bounce back quickly from setbacks
(3) Gain strength from adversities
(4) Convert misfortune into good fortune
(5) Overcome tendencies to feel like a victim, and stay detached from victim reactions of others
(6) Overcome the three main resiliency barriers.
Who is this book written for? Siebert explains: "The resiliency guidelines in this book focus mainly on resiliency in the workplace, but they apply broadly to all aspects of life." (Actually, I think Siebert is being too restrictive in saying that these principles "focus mainly on resiliency in the workplace." Personally, I think these principles are essential to know so as to effectively play the game of life.)
What will this book NOT tell you? It "will not tell you what to do or how to act or think...Resilient people are those who decide that somehow, some way, they will do the very best they can to survive, cope, and make things turn out well." This book helps you develop your own unique way of being resilient by being both self-reliant and socially responsible.
As a physically disabled person, my personal favorite chapter was entitled "Mastering Extreme Resiliency Challenges." Included here are true stories from 9/11 survivors. I feel Siebert outdoes himself in this penultimate chapter.
Finally, this book has some key features. Important definitions, exercises, and other important and essential information are isolated from the main narrative as inserts so as to highlight key ideas. Each chapter is broken up into sections with anecdotes, examples, and true stories instead of having one long narrative. At the end of each chapter are insightful "Resiliency Development Activities" that help you utilize and think about the information from each chapter.
In conclusion, this is truly a helpful and unique book. Discover for yourself why this book was named the winner of the 2006 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the "Self Help" category at BookExpo America (the largest book publishing event in the United States) and why it was endorsed by the past president of the American Psychological Association!!

A Review from PMH Atwater, L.H.D., Ph.D. (Hon.).......2006-11-10
This book is all that it says it is, a veritable how-to in handling today's pressure and challenges, and doing it in a way that enhances your life while enabling you to dissolve much of the stress that tends to cripple. It is a book for the "right now" of life, specific suggestions for specific situations, lots of stories, ideas, even "resiliency development activites"at the close of each chapter. What peaked my attention, though, were the chapters from nine on, covering things like "Integrating Your Paradoxical Abilities," "Allowing Everything to Work Well - The Synergy Talent," "Strengthening Your Talent for Serendipity," "Mastering Extreme Resiliency Challenges," and "Our Transformational Breakthrough." Here Dr. Siebert is addressing, among others, those people who have had a near-death experience or a similar type of impactual transformation of consciousness. And what he has to offer is most incredible, real help for those who may need it or who can use a friendly nudge in the process of integrating such experiences.
