Learn to patent your art and entertainment yourself........2006-10-28
This book has got everything and anything a nascent patent seeker needs to go it alone, and even the tools if one needs more than one's own help. It is full of example after example of those who've gone before and succeeded where naysayers so often have said "it can't be done." Art and entertainment are supposed to be too elusive to define and patent; yet, this book brings to light the fact that it's possible to pin those definitions down after all - then patent them.
You can't go wrong with all the possibilities shown in this book. Gregory Aharonian and Richard Stim have you covered on so many fronts within the art and entertainment venues, you can only succeed. Even better, you've got nothing to lose. Even if you're denied a patent by the USPTO - and they're blunt about that possibility here - you won't always regret not having tried, or even wonder, "What if I had tried"?
Patenting is part art unto itself. Add to that the eclectic theories and arguments pro and con of this still-growing discipline, and you have a very unique niche of law of which to be part.

Good Book for People with Good Ideas.......2004-11-18
I picked this book up thinking that applying patent and related law to art and entertainment was a rather narrow focus but found the book to be both interesting and comprehensive. Changes in the area of intellectual property protection in recent years, particularly regarding the practices of the US Patent and Trademark Office, have blurred the lines of protection in some areas of the law. The art and entertainment areas are good examples where the changes have had the most effect and practitioners in those fields are well advised to become familiar with them. The book clearly describes some of the most ambiguous areas and does an excellent job of describing why and when some forms of intellectual property protection may be more suitable than others. It also deals concretely with the issue of costs and - egads - when someone might actually want to retain an attorney. My quibbles with the book are minor. Patent infringement cases do not necessarily cost $500,000 to prosecute and many cases involving inventions with modest commercial success are resolved at much less cost. Also, in terms of the efficacy of protection, nothing beats a timely registered copyright in terms of recovery for time and cost expended. But these are my opinions and others may (and probably do) disagree. In any case, the candid and practical guidance in this book will be of interest to anyone working in the creative fields irrespective of whether they have invented new ways to create art, designed bigger and better inflatable dolls, or developed new designs for clothing and accessories.

Top 100 Simplified Tips and Tricks is a nice, user-friendly adjunct to one's digital camera's user manual. It gives simplified explanations with full color pages and LOTS of pictures to supplement the often compex instructions and explanations found in the user manual. The pictures REALLY help, and the explanations are easy to understand, so you don't have to be a rocket-scientist to take markedly better pictures. A definite must-have!

I just received the new edition of this book. I hestitated to buy it because I owned the previous edition and didn't know if this one would be worth the extra investment. I was not disappointed. This has been totally redesigned and is packed with lots of new techniques and killer photos. Very inspirational and easy to use. Hey...I guess I'm hooked.
Quick & Easy - A Super Guide!.......2004-07-12
I just bought this book last night, and am half way through reading it already. It's an excellent book for the amateur to advanced photographer who hates to read lengthy dialog, but wants to learn some quick tips and tricks on how to improve their photography. Even applies to more advanced photographers - especially those who are coming off of "film" and going "digital".
It has tips and tricks for every aspect of digital photography -- from setting up your equipment, to taking better pics, to storing and printing them.
It assumes the reader has access to Photoshop Elements (as opposed to a complete version of Photoshop), which is nice. It has clear and high-quality photos to support each lesson. Most lessons are 2 pages (a couple are 4 pages), so it's a very quick and easy read. Love it!
Good Tips.......2004-05-17
The only thing I didn't like about this book was that the first page of the photoshop section says "This section requires familiarity with basic Photoshop Elements commands; to learn these commands see "Teach Yourself VISUALLY Restoration and Retouching with Photoshop Elements" If you haven't read that book, this section might not make a lot of sense. It is full of great tips, ideas that are very helpful. It doesn't go into great depth on subject matter but is good for a beginner.

This beginners book on PhotoShop Elemements is clearly written with many useful examples. Unlike other books on this subject, the writer is a professional photographer concerned with preparing photographs for publication - and less about the casual amateur photographer.

It's beginning to read a lot like Christmas. The publishers spew out the Yuletide titles, and we read them. And sometimes we weep. In the case of Richard Ross' latest, we laughed. Often. This collection of patent applications --- think Santa Claus detectors, singing elves, inflatable snow people and collapsible, pine-scented fake evergreens, smoke alarms in the shape of haloed angels --- proves what happens when the creativity, curiosity, capitalism of idle wanna inventors collide ... perhaps sparked by a generous helping of spiked eggnog. The configuration space of a manifold provides the appropriate setting for problems not only in topology but also in other areas such as nonlinear analysis and algebra. With applications in mind, the aim of this monograph is to provide a coherent and thorough treatment of the configuration spaces of Euclidean spaces and spheres which makes the subject accessible to researchers and graduate students with a minimal background in classical homotopy theory and algebraic topology. The treatment regards the homotopy relations of Yang-Baxter type as being fundamental. It also includes a novel and geometric presentation of the classical pure braid group; the cellular structure of these configuration spaces which leads to a cellular model for the associated based and free loop spaces; the homology and cohomology of based and free loop spaces; and an illustration of how to apply the latter to the study of Hamiltonian systems of k-body type.

This book talks about various aspects of fractals, biomorphs and many other very, very interesting aspects of maths. A book for beginners, intermediate and advanced readers. Algorithms and much more for computer programming. A MUST HAVE for everybody interested on fractals and computer science.

If you are a practitioner you will not find this book very helpful. It has a number of interesting ideas, but they randomly presented. If you are looking for a more systematic or strategic approach, I'd recommend Beitler's Strategic Organizational Change or Kotter's Leading Change.

Good Book. It presents the reader with seveal different theories and I learned alot about how change takes takes place in the work place. Overall a good book to read for any leader.

I'm not sure it made that much sense. I was looking for a more practical book on how to do it - how to design an organization based on the needs.

This book would be useful if you do not practice as a manager. It provides an elementary overview. If you are a practitioner, I'd recommend Kotter, Beitler, or Bridges.

This is one of the most useful, accessible and instantly applicable books on change management out there!
It collates quite a few well-published theorems and methodologies in one place, demonstrates the pros and cons of each without going into too much detail, but leaves it to the reader to decide which is appropriate in a given situation and, as a whole, the authors provides you with an unsurpassed collection of tools and models to apply in any given change scenario.
You will find yourself referring back to this again and again.
