Book Description
A Miss Rosen Edition In 1998, Ellen Jong was at a party on Canal Street in New York's TriBeCa. As the bathroom line was too long, she headed to the street to take a leak. Jong squatted just behind some junked furniture on the curb of the sidewalk, and her pee trickled down like wet paint on a wall. Being a photographer, she had her Yashica T4 with her, and turned around to her suspect puddle to capture what she thought looked more like blood in a murder scene than pee. Since that fateful urination, Jong has captured her tracks through New York, Miami, Shanghai, and Mexico, the countryside, woodside, and seaside, under moonlight and opposite sunset. Since then, Jong has amassed a sizeable body of work, a collection of images that fuse documentary, landscape, and fine art photography and portraiture into a uniquely personal statement. The work, exhibited at various galleries, is all gathered in Pees on Earth: A Pissin' Mission; a collection of images that are at once challenging, provocative, intriguing, courageous, amusing, and beautiful. These images capture not only Jong's rebellious exuberance, but also offer a comment on what constitutes the personal and the political. Pees on Earth is a statement about the ownership of self, of sensuality, of humanity, and of womanhoodall expressed with beauty and a great deal of humor. There's a sigh of relief on every page of Pees on Earth. Jong's photographs assert her place on the planet and, because we all share the act, they assert ours too. It is a manifesto for our collective existence, a cry for all sentient beings: "I am! I pee!"

TO BOLDLY "GO" WHERE NO WOMAN HAS GONE BEFORE.......2007-01-02
Ellen Jong and the appropriately named Annie Sprinkle have infiltrated the male-dominated world of public urination. This book is an amazing and very transgressive work - showing a woman "marking her territory" in a variety of different settings, and breaking the taboo that only guys are supposed to pee outside and women are supposed to hold it in til they get to a proper restroom.
Disgusting waste of paper.......2006-12-10
I saw this book at B&N and I guess people WILL buy just about anything. Really gross and juvenile.

Customer Reviews:
wonderful waterfalls.......2007-06-19
This book made my insatiable quest for waterfalls very easy with great directions. Ricketts Glen State Park is one awesome hike!!
Falling Waters.......2007-05-30
This is a very unique book for both lovers of Pennsylvania's outdoor treasures, and those who love to take pictures of them. As can be seen in the subtitle, this very attractive and informative book is tailored for two crowds - hikers and photographers, though the term "hikers" is used loosely. Thanks to our state's surprisingly varied natural history, there are a plethora of small picturesque waterfalls in Pennsylvania, and as can be found in this book, a great many of them can be reached very easily by car for the weekend rambler crowd. Granted, as an active PA hiker I can think of a few excellent but less-accessible waterfalls that Scott E. Brown does not cover here. But on the other hand, the good news is that the easy accessibility of the many falls that Brown does cover will allow more people to appreciate the values of Pennsylvania's natural treasures. Only a few of the falls covered by Brown require any real hiking - notably the stupendous Ricketts Glen State Park and a couple of State Game Lands areas in Sullivan County. Otherwise, the waterfall lover is in luck because the vast majority of waterfalls described by Brown are accessible via rambles of less than two miles in length, and a few are even right next to parking lots.
Regardless of the requirements on the visitor's feet, the best aspect of this book is the photography, with dozens of lavish examples of Brown's expert compositions. These beautiful shots will hold over the PA nature lover until you can get to these falls yourself. Brown's focus on photography is definitely the key to this book's uniqueness, because he has surely written for the shutterbug. Brown includes many great tips for the pro photographer, not just for general outdoor work but also for many of the particular waterfalls themselves. One must appreciate the great amount of hard work Brown did in order to get the shots presented in this book - and the best part is that he advises other photographers on how to get even better shots. So for those interested in capturing dozens of under-appreciated PA waterfalls on film, and for those who just want an easy and rewarding ramble to unexpected natural treasures, this book is an excellent addition to both your backpack and your coffee table. Wow!!.......2005-08-22
This book is terrific! The color photos in the book are clear and beautiful. This book was easy to follow, gave easy to follow directions, and gave a lot of insight on what time of day and the time of year to take perfect pictures. This book even tells you what camera lenses to use. I've purchased many waterfall books and I have to say that this one is the best I've seen! I only hope that Scott Brown writes books (and takes photos) in his neighboring states.
Obviously a Labor of Love.......2005-06-04
This is a FANTASTIC guide book to waterfalls in the Keystone State. It is really exactly the book for what I wanted. Gorgeous color photographs of waterfalls, shot by someone who not only knows how to shoot them, but who loves nature photography and really wants to pass his expertise on to the reader. And he uses real film, which in this digital age, is a refreshing and inspiring turn.
And I should also add that not only is this a beautiful book from a photographic standpoint, but he includes copious details about the waterfalls, how to find them and how best to approach them, and plenty of geological, historical and ecological information. He even includes GPS positioning data!
Thanks, Scott, for a perfect book (with the exception that all the waterfalls lie outside of a 100 mile radius of my house!!)

Book Description
Edgar Allan Poe was driven by demons.A poet and a storyteller, he was haunted by dark moods and darker thoughts, resulting in disturbing stories of high complexity, supernatural terror and exquisite mental turmoil. But were the demons that drove him real? That possibility is explored in the 96-page VERTIGO hardcover IN THE SHADOW OF EDGAR ALLAN POE #151; written by award-winning novelist Jonathan Scott Fuqua (The Reappearance of Sam Webber) and featuring photographic art by Stephen John Phillips (VEILS, I, PAPARAZZI) Steve Parke (I, PAPARAZZI).When a lost diary purported to be written by Poe falls into the hands of Sterling Tuttle, the Poe scholar uncovers a side of the writer that few people ever suspected. In the diary, the voice of the long-dead author reaches out from beyond the grave to give a chilling account of his tortured life. Haunted by the ghosts of his tragic past and the burden of relentless alcoholism, Poe soon finds that his creativity may depend on actual demons who have an unsavory agenda of their own#133;Based on someof Poe's published works, IN THE SHADOW combines actual events in the writer's life with Fuqua and Parke's speculation on the nature of his muse, creating a mysterious drama wherein tragedy and fate intersect. With chilling photographs that invoke the fear that Poe wrestled with, Park Phillips break the traditional boundaries of framed panels and create a graphic novel that explodes with original, unforgettable visuals.

Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick and wrong.......2007-01-31
Disgusting, libelous twaddle that drags Poe's name through the mud. Useful as an emetic, perhaps.
A treat for Poe fans!.......2006-10-06
This book is a wonderful idea for a small book - A diary found that belonged to Edgar Allan Poe. The illustrations are fantastic, and lead to the character of the book. Follows the sad story of Poe. And the writing - it's a WOW - giving that Poe had his demons, (we knew that) but they were ACTUAL DEMONS)
For Poe fans especially - or those who want to see a great illustrated book for adults.
Hated it........2005-08-15
I'm surprised to see so many good reviews. Maybe I missed something. I thought the story was sensationalistic drivel -- **without** being intense or genuinely outré or mysterious or any of the other things that make Poe so much fun to read. I imagine that it all ties in cleverly with the true story of Poe's life, but I lack the patience to analyze a story that so fails to interest me.
I found the visual style overdone, with excessively fuzzy photographs intended to give a dramatic effect, and (if I recall right) some annoying typefaces. Although the props and costumes are (presumably) of the time period, the visual style as a whole is jarringly modern. Worst of all, I felt that the models for the photos didn't convey emotion effectively. Maybe something about posing for a series of still images makes it especially hard to be expressive and in character, or maybe the artists/models simply underestimated the importance of **acting.** This is a flaw in many otherwise fine comics with realistic art: instead of sketching a body and a face that have emotional impact and spontaneity, they call in a model who indicates or mimes the emotions. If the model is a good actor and the photographer or artist captures the moment well enough, it can work. In this comic, it doesn't work for me at all. It's like looking at stills from a bad movie. (The guy really looks like Poe, at least.)
I hate to be so down on this comic; it may be a sincere attempt to explore and honor Poe's psyche/life/work, and for all I know it might mean something more to Poe scholars than it does to a casual reader like me. But I just find it to be hokey and sophomoric and naïve, at best; and at worst, a crude, gossipy attempt to cash in on the guy's modern popularity.
I read the paperback version.
Unexpected great read........2005-05-15
Despite a photographic style that detracted from the raw edge of the story, reading this book was an unexpectedly vivid experience. Fuqua is an understated, but major talent. His books that are marketed for teens have great literary merit and he's right on the mark again with this creative recreation of Poe's struggle with his inner demons set against the backdrop of the details of his miserable life.
Totally hip.......2004-10-15
Okay, if you want to see the demise of intelligence in America, the sectional thinking, the special interests with their idiotic little hyper-concerns, read some of the reviews below. Just some. I mean, a few people seem to think that this is actually supposed to be a scholarly bio on Poe. Come on! They seem to think that the diary that's been found is somehow real and that the authors are doing Poe a great injustice, that they're arguing that Poe's enemy of the time probably cranked the thing out. So I have to ask, "What's going on in your heads?" This is a graphic novel boys and girls. It's a piece of fiction. Don't go writing your masters disertation and rely on this story, because you'll look foolish. And if you do, fellas, you should.
So here's my take. This is a full-throttle bit of fantasy writing combined with great, cinemagraphic art (manipulated photography that is absolutely cool) that is a miraculous little bundle of creepiness, literary deevolution, and gripping story telling, and you should buy it for no other reason than that. Don't go getting it if what you're looking for is a history text, buy it for the entertainment value. Don't go getting it and feel like it's some sideways dig at Poe and Poe's ability, because you'll look foolish. Get it cause it's good and entertaining as all get out. Don't go special-intresting this thing with your little nitch-Poe-hobby. You're missing the point. Instead, let Fuqua's perfect-pitch writing entertain, Phillips' photography work blow your mind, and Parke's magic rope it all together. Enjoy the thing in an easy chair with a lot of cushion. You'll read to the end and back again.

Customer Reviews:
Nobody should wear cha cha heels....but they should read this book.......2006-06-13
According to the author in her introduction, this book is a compendium of languid come-ons, snitty retorts, blase metaphysics, jaded declarations of love and histrionic expressions of lust from the movies.
If you like campy lines and quotes from great and horrid movies, you'll get a kick out of this book. There are a plethora of quotes from Bette Davis movies (i.e. "Mistress Throgmorton, is this your pet swine?" from the Virgin Queen), Joan Crawford, Valley of the Dolls and the list goes on. Topics include cheap women, food and drink, history and love, of course.
It's pretty funny, and a nice variety of movies are represented. It's worth the money.

Book Description
The Real Ireland is the first study of Irish documentary film, but more than that, it is a study of Ireland itself--of how the idea of Ireland evolved throughout the twentieth century and how documentary cinema both recorded and participated in the process of change. More than just a film studies work, it is a discussion of history, politics and culture, which also explores the philosophical roots of the documentary idea, and how this idea informs concepts of society, self and nation. It features rare and previously unseen illustrations and a detailed documentary filmography, the first of its kind in print anywhere.

Book Description
While Fernando Ortiz's contribution to our understanding of Cuba and Latin America more generally has been widely recognized since the 1940s, recently there has been renewed interest in this scholar and activist who made lasting contributions to a staggering array of fields. For the first time in English, this volume of essays demonstrates his impact on a staggering array of fields. Much of his most challenging and provocative thinking--which embraced simultaneity, conflict, inherent contradiction, and hybridity--has remarkable relevance for current debates about Latin America's complex and evolving societies.

To address some of the questions that the reader might have:
* This course is very easy to digest but will take about 4-5 hours of your time.
* It covers a great deal of many different subjects related to concession sales.
* Previous experience in this field is not necessary.
* The Dvd's give several good menu suggestions next to full instructions on preparing a variety of barbecue meals.
* Mr. Robertson shows a lot of experience and enthusiasm in his field.
* There is an Index of links as well as recipes towards the end of the book.
The author did an excellent job at describing ways how to get started in your own concession vending business. I have been operating a ball game concessions stand for over 8 years, next to my day job as a teacher and I have become quite experienced in this field. I know that there is a lot of money to be made with food sales. At sports events, the food and drinks are an essential part of the whole fun, no matter how pricey they are. The only drawbacks are the ever increasing concession fees to set up at the games. This is yet another reason, why owning a business as an independent operator makes a lot of sense.
After reviewing this course, I was able to learn a great deal more about concession sales. If you are thinking about starting out in this field, I can highly recommend it!
fun and informative!.......2007-02-16
I originally bought this for my husband and ended up watching the DVD's with him. They are really packed with a lot of information and with valuable tips from a real professional.
Now BBQ became our first choice of foods to sell. The recipes in the film are truly wonderful and turned out well the first time we tried them. We also will focus on Tex-Mex foods that are very popular in our area.
The book gave us lots of good ideas that we will use in our own business. The author is right: cooking for fun is one thing- cooking for money is another! It was good to watch someone else do it first. Probably saved me from making lots of mistakes!
Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and I am glad I found it!
An excellent purchase.......2006-12-13
This was by far the best purchase I made on amazon this year. I enjoyed watching the DVD's that covered far more than I expected.
I have always wanted to have my own restaurant, but never have been able to get it together. The trailer food business is more my thing, as I can leave it parked in my backyard when I don't want to sell. I had trouble finding information on the subject of mobile food vending and I wish I would have seen this course earlier. It has taught me a lot about this business. The film showed interesting background info and a lot of food being prepared for resale. The ribs looked delicious and I now always cook my ribs this way. Watching the procedure is like being there and much better than just reading about it...
The book is easy to follow and covers pretty much everything I needed to know. I am not much of a chef, but people were all impressed by the food I prepared the way it is described in the book. I fed over 300 people in one day by myself at our block party and made good money doing it. This guide was very helpful to me in my rural area. It also made me feel like I can actually put a business like this together in my spare time.

"Making Creative Mobiles" is a Winner.......2007-08-04
Clearly, this is an artist whose life is mobiles; what an immignation. This is a great book for both ideas and techniques. Inspirational!
surprising mobile.......2007-07-17
I read Tim Rose's book in an afternoon and built my first mobile with things laying about. I turned out the light to leave for the day, and when I looked back into the room, my mobile was dancing in the moonlight. What a good book.

Customer Reviews:
Great Book for Union Stewards who CARE!.......2007-05-07
This book is a good reference tool for the novice Union Steward, and I recommend it to anyone who is currently a Union Steward. Lots of insightful tips!
Great for any shop steward.......2007-03-14
This is a great resource for old and new stewards alike. Everything is broken down into easy to look up categories that give information from health and safety to conducting a meeting. I highly recommend it.
New, 2006 edition.......2006-02-14
A new, updated and expanded edition was published in 2006; the original was published in 1997. Be sure you're seeing the latest version.
Not Very Informative........2001-01-06
Has some good topics discussed. Would not recommend this book as a starter in labor law.
Great not just for stewards!.......2000-12-04
This manual (perhaps we should call it a union bible) is presented in a very easy to read and enjoyable layout.
The producers and editors of this manual did a great job. It's fun to read even the most boring things that a steward has to do!
However, I don't even belong to a union. We're in the process of organizing and this book provided great ideas. A section that deals with bringing the co-workers together is great! It's a fresh reminder that Unions are only as good as the workers and workers need to fight every bit as hard as the local/international does to protect them and fight for them.
Get this manual, well worth the price!
