Book Description
Through a range of case- studies, including studies from the UK, North America and Australia, this book moves away from the idea that museums are always "conservative" to suggest they have a long history of engaging with popular culture and addressing a variety of audiences. Andrea Whitcomb argues that museums are key mediators between high and popular culture and between government, media practitioners, cultural policy-makers and museums professionals. The book also analyses links between museums and the media, looks at the role of museums in cities and discusses the effects on museums of cultural policies.

Outstanding introduction to Photoshop.......2006-11-15
I have learned sailing, chess, computor languages, photography, tennis, and other skills out of a book. Personally Photoshop is a very user unfriendly software package but also the most capable one as well. After getting this book 1-2 years ago, it has been used extensively. The directions are excellent and the clarity is remarkable. Without question, I would recommend this book to any begginer using Photoshop. There really is no better book. I still refer to it often.
Good information in a Great Format.......2005-12-11
Before I use a book, I give it a feel test. I'm looking for a useful feel; is it inviting, does it compel me to open it, are the pages easy to read, is it easy to navigate, does the index work? Julie King's Everyday Photoshop for Photographers, passes all my preliminary feel tests with high marks.
The pages are laid out so the chapter headings flip across the top in an easy to read fashion. They are large and descriptive, so when I searched for masking, I flipped quickly to Chapter 6, Selective Editing: Masking in Photoshop. The right hand page lists the Part section in vertical type. I really appreciate a book that flips well.
The information presented utilizes brief concise paragraphs with lots of bulleting and bold headers. Snippets of important information are specifically color coded to content, Remember(Blue), Watch Out!(Red), and Time Saver(Green). These are strategically placed with excellent information.
However, when working with a subject such as Photoshop, it is extremely important to visualize the techniques discussed with images reflecting sometimes subtle differences. There's just nothing worse than portraying Photoshop results with lousy pictures. King has an excellent collection of high quality images that faithfully reproduce the techniques discussed. They are bright, clear and visualize even the most subtle Photoshop effects. The qualities of the images are crucial to the text and often self-explaining.
Included are excellent screen shots of Photoshop's tools and palettes. They are easy on the eyes in the context of the text. Tables list speed keys for tools and commands. King also added Tool Tricks, more blocked snippets of ready to use information such as:
Press a number key to adjust the opacity of the next stroke you paint with the Brush tool or Clone tool. Press 0 for full opacity, 9 for 90 percent opacity, 8 for 80 percent opacity, and so on. To adjust opacity in increments smaller than ten, type the specific value: 85, 23 or whatever.
King provides a basic background on the use of Photoshop, how to move around within it, providing basic element descriptions using common, everyday language that a novice user can understand and relate easily. She discusses manipulating photographs via cropping and color controls, masking techniques, levels filter use to control exposure and color variances, remixing and replacing colors, fixing defects with the cloning tool and healing brush. Her text will be useful to the novice or the expert.

Strongly recommend for beginners.......2005-04-21
This is the second book about Photoshop that I bought. I started with How to Wow Photoshop for Photography... when I found you already need quite a bit of foundations to work with this book (I will let you know how it works when I get there). So the following week I went to the bookstore and go through all the beginners Photoshop books I could find.
This one caught my atention and I have to say that it has totally opened my eyes to PS. I haven't finished reading it yet (four chapters to go) but I am already able to adjust exposures and colors with levels and curves, adjustment layers, crop without altering the quality of the image... Awesome, all that in two weeks! Every single effect explained in the text has worked for me. The flow of the book, although a little boring at the beginning (two chapters making selections), works very well (I had to go back to those two chapters many times).
Also appreciated the lack of technical language and the moderate sense of humor that keeps you up without feeling you are being fooled with stupidities.
Overall, I am amazed of the profusion of details, for both PS 7 and CS, Windows and Mac operating systems, tricks to speed and improve your work, pictures ilustrating the before and after of the technique and almost every step in between!.
If you have been scared of Photoshop as I was, this is your book. It will help you go through the basic operations you need to improve your photographies and prepare them to print or share on the internet.

An Endless Dance in Three-Four Time.......2007-07-23
Adapted from the movie sequel to the Gundam Wing TV series, TOKYOPOP's now-defunct manga version of Endless Waltz was written and illustrated by Koichi Tokita. For those that don't know, or don't remember, the year is After Colony 196: after almost a year of bloody war, the Gundam pilots-five young but highly-trained soldiers-have brought forth peace between planet Earth and her many space colonies. And assuming that they're no longer needed, the powerful Gundam mobile suits are sent to the sun to be destroyed. But trouble brews in the new X-18999 colony. Relena Darlian, vice foreign minister of the new Earth government, is kidnapped by a new army-led by a little girl-that plots to revolt against the Earth. And if that's not enough, a Gundam pilot joins the club and brings his mobile suit with him. Now the remaining pilots must recover their weapons and fight to prevent the great tragedies of the past.
Those unfamiliar with Gundam Wing won't be able to make heads or tails out of the story; in that case, you should read the original manga first. Those up to speed won't find much of a difference between this and the Endless Waltz movie. Some new scenes are added, some are taken out, and some are switched around at the cost of the story's momentum. That and the dialogue's a little muddy. Aside from a few twists, you won't find anything particularly new in the manga, and you can probably finish it in 1 or 2 sit-downs. But for the most devoted Gundam fans, it's time well spent.
This comic is rated Y for Youth: Violence.

Fighting for Peace.......2003-09-22
Gundam Wing ---- Endless Waltz is one of the Gundam series, which written by two famous Japanese science fiction writer, Hajime Yadate and Yoshiyuki Tomino. They have written a lots of the Gundam series. All the Gundam series are show a grandiose history of the war in human.
The five Gundam pilots are the main character in this story. From the beginning the five youths searched for peace in themselves way. Four of them send Gundams to the sun in order to keep peace. They thought if they destroyed all weapons, the war would never happen again.
Oppositely, Wufei did not send his Gundam to the sun, because he thought peace was never became of the world. When the war broke out, Wufei joined the Mariemeia Army; he wanted to find the right just. When he did everything he asked himself ¡°Am I doing the right thing?¡± While Wufei battled with Heero, he asked Heero ¡°Are you right? Is your cause just? I am asking you if you are doing the right thing!¡± At the end, Wufei came out from the mind lost, he asked people who were eager for peace to battle with the Mariemeia Army. Finally Wufei found out his peace and joined Prevent as a Preventer, waiting for fighting for peace¡¡
For other Gundam pilots, Trowa pretended to join the Mariemeia Army, for stopping the colony from dropping on Earth; Duo went to save Relena and fought with the Mariemeia Army; Quatre tried his best to get the lost Gundams from their way to the sun, for this he almost got near to the hell ---- dead in the space.
Heero is the main character of the five Gundam pilots. It may show from the title ---- Gundam Wing, because the Gundam of Heero named Wing Zero. Heero was always silence, usually he did not say anything, but when he said something that meant he would do it in his own way, until he got the goal. While Heero battled with Wufei, he just said one sentence ¡°Wufei, self-detonation!¡± and then did move at all, because he believe Wufei would stop. While they battled the next time on Earth, he asked Wufei how many people did they have killed? And how many people they would still kill for the peace! He then dropped himself to the bottom of the ocean in order to let Wufei woke up to find the real peace! At the end, Heero confirmed that the shield was unable to destroy. After three blasts from Wing Zero, he was able to destroy the shield, but Wing Zero was also destroyed. Heero was a soldier like this, a soldier fought for peace at all costs! I give my best respect to him!
The story named Gundam Wing----Endless Waltz. It means the war likes endless waltz, human battle for any reason from human history, from the beginning but no end. Peace likes wing, sometimes near to us but sometimes far away from us. How can we do? To keep the wing holding on palm of your hand, or always waiting for the coming wind and stopping the wind blow away the wing? I will choice the last way to protect the only wing for us all.
Everyone considers that war is the ugliest cruelest thing in the word, in our deep heart. Everyone is eager for peace, they hate war hate battle. But from this science fiction book, it tells us, peace is something you have to fight for. The book really shows that the meaning of the true peace!

Fabulous from start to finish!.......2005-12-19
After reading just the introduction, I had a list of 6 people that are going to need this book for Christmas or their Birthday. You will laugh as you read and if you are like me, people you know will come to mind as you go through the examples, which makes it that much funnier. I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone--and hey, you just might pick up a new tip or two to make you that much better a liar yourself.
Hits Close to Home.......2005-12-15
Funny and insightful - but also possesses the sting of a knife dipped in the acrid poison of your own self talk. If you want to be entertained, a superstar liar or able to id one - put it in your own stocking. Or get it for all those dear slanderous, distorting, etc. friends and lovers who really could use this book to master the craft. Better that than insult you with half formed, feeble, and fallacious stories!
Loved when to tell the truth: Baby, it's not you. It's me breaking up with you.
Book Description
As a serious filmmaker, you need to ensure that the color and lighting in each frame of your movie looks consistent and achieves the mood you want to convey. If you're using Avid Xpress DV 3.5 to edit your footage, but you've yet to master the software's color correction features, you need
Color Correction for Avid Xpress DV 3.5.
Based on the one-day course taught by Avid's own Authorized Education Centers, this official step-by-step guide shows you how to color correct video frames in Avid Xpress DV 3.5 by taking you through the three stages of color correction: restoring the original look of each shot, achieving shot-to-shot consistency, and creating a final look. In the process, you'll learn how to use video scopes—which graphically display color information about individual frames in a sequence—to achieve brightness and color levels that are within safe limits for broadcast, attain a good level of contrast, correct color casts, and match brightness and color in consecutive shots in a program. By the end of this short course, you'll be able to analyze an image for color correction problems using scopes, color correct segments in a program, adjust color for an entire program, and check that levels are within broadcast limits. A companion CD-ROM (Windows XP and Mac OS X compatible) includes the project and media files used in the book so you can get started using your new skills immediately.

Basic information only.......2005-08-23
Extremely basic and rudimentary information on color correction.
It only covers the basics, such as setting white and black levels and white balance.
If you're interested in this book just go to the bookstore and skim through it. There is not that much information in this book; it'll take you around 30 minutes to skim through it.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!!.......2004-12-05
This item has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Pink Floyd. It is a (thin) book of Piano Chords - none of which are in any way related to Pink Floyd songs.
The picture of the cover of the book you see on amazon.com is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from the picture on the cover of the book you get.
AMAZON - get this off your website - or you should be charged with providing totally inaccurate and false information.
VERY BAD SHOW AMAZON!!
Dazed and disappointed.......2004-08-25
This listing has been corrected (for the most part) since I originally wrote my review that follows.
This is an incorrect representation of this book. It has absolutely nothing to do with Pink Floyd or guitar music at all. It is a beginner's piano solo book. It happened to look like something that will be useful to someone else in my family, so for the price I will just keep it. It is not worth the trouble to return. The picture on Amazon representing the book as a Pink Floyd Anthology is INCORRECT. It is nothing of the kind. The vast majority of people looking at this book will have no use what-so-ever for what they actually get in the mail if they purchase it.

Find the names of 13 animals in a grid: you can search horizontally and vertically, backwards and forwards, but not diagonally. And no: there's not a word list to make the hunt easier. Complete a crossword by substituting letters for numbers. And do you know the unusual connection between these 3 words: flask, flash, flags? When you come up with the answer, try to think of other 4-letter words that display the same characteristics. Plus: What Comes Next?; Missing Figures; Double Magic; and more.

Okay.......2004-07-18
This is one of the many "okay" books out there these days on creative thinking. There are so many books being published these days about creative thinking, one has to seriously wonder about the credentials of the many authors. This author is not exactly an expert.
As my creative doctor says...........2003-09-10
Say Aha.....
This book, for me, is a solid 3.5... it's light on when it comes to techniques but full of good ol' fashioned homestyle advice in other ways. Want to be more creative: read more and read more broadly. Keep a journal. Make your creative "space" pleasant and interesting.
Problem is, it sometimes feels that that's all you get. If you're looking for models to follow then this isn't your book. If you're looking to make a start on a more "creative" life - career, long planned novel - then this book hits the spot just right.
Stinker!.......2003-06-20
This book is one of the most trival "works" on the subject known. I think the author has hitched his wagon the the "creative spirit" train trying to take his knowledge to another level. Too bad the book is ripe with thoughts and ideas taken from more credible sources. Pass on this one if you are serious about idea building in business. I've heard the author lecture and that's just as bad. Better books are from the author, John C. Maxwell.
Broader Applications.......2000-02-08
I discovered this book while researching the topic of parents helping nurture creativity in their children. Since my first premise is that we are all creative and that parents need to conncet with their own creativity, the book gave direct help on understanding how to spark adult creativity. Also --enormously helpful was its simple, logical organization--that guided me as I organized my own thoughts for my speech. Super bibliography. Good reference book to have around--not just for the topic, but also for its direct and utilitarian style.
