Customer Reviews:
Anecdotes from a discrete dealer.......2007-08-03
This memoir is really a collection of anecdotes, which taken together give a vivid impression of a hardworking networking merchant with very good taste.
His energy and determination would have made him a fearsome competitor in what is always a fiercely competitive business. His taste made him memorable.
Interesting from a historical perspective, but essentially a lightweight book.
Great Insight.......2003-06-15
As an actual "Master Graphics" art dealer, dealing Picasso, Miro', Chagall etc. I found the book to be a great insight. Managing artist-dealer realtionships is the hardest aspect of being a great dealer, and is what made Vollard so huge!
The previous reader, read this book for the wrong reasons. It's not a handbook, nor intended to be one, on establishing you own business as an artist. You will not find any 'hidden secrets'. If you are an art dealer and want to have an insight as to the mastery of Vollard's ability to manage both the artist and the client, this is your book. If your a 'wannabe' great artist, then this 'capatilistic' point of view will not serve you at all.
A great disappointment.......2003-04-09
This is the greatest art dealer of all time - who reprented Manet, Cezanne, Degas, Renoir, and Gauguin !! But the book, after the first 150 pages, all I can say is big disappointment.
I don't even have the motivation to read on.
The book is full of stuff unrelated to art or artists. All the time the writer talked about uninteresting anectidocts that few would care, such as how he went to a threater and what he did there with a unknown art buyer, etc.
The translation is a disgrace too. Fresh from the 1930s, British English, which makes it truly miserable to read. A great match for the writing style though.
The writer, obviously, knew nothing about how to write an interesting book. It makes me wonder how in the world can such a man become an art dealer for so many greatest artists on earth.
the worest thing: It has nothing about how to become an art dealer and how an art dealer works and what makes them succeed.
As an "up-coming" digital painting artist myself, I strongly recommend readers who are interested in art to read the books by SISTER WENDY and "Art of the 20th Century" by JEAN-LOUIS FERRIER which are great art books.

Book Description
No one knows more about comedy than Steve Allen. For decades as a writer, performer, and keen observer of the social scene, he has looked into every aspect of who's funny, what's funny, and why. Now he shares his discoveries in a book designed to help every reader develop his or her special talent for funniness. For anyone who wants to be a more amusing conversationalist, a more effective public speaker, or just more fun to be around, HOW TO BE FUNNY is as foolproof as a Steve Allen punch line.
Customer Reviews:
A pretty average book..........2005-10-16
The book is better than Jon Macks' book of the same name, yes. But still, the content looks dated, and covers more theoretical aspects than real world techniques. But still, the techniques are useful to some extent. You may try the more practical/simple book which is Stanley Lyndon's How to be funny (...). But considering everything, all 3 books are good and cover the various points on being the everyday funny person. My advice is that you buy all three as they don't cost that much together.
Have fun!
Rogers.
Won't help you be funnier.......2002-04-16
I found this book to be very disappointing. It is very poorly written and organized. Though the book claims to be written in 1998, it was clearly written in the early 1980s, so all of the references are extremely dated. For example, it still talks about how Joan Rivers as a hot young comedienne. There are pages and pages of transcripts from old Steve Allen bits that aren't funny at all in writing, and are so dated that they contain many references and words I didn't understand.
As the title implies, I expected it to help me develop a better sense of humor by providing analysis on why things are funny and instructing how to apply those techniques. It does very little of this. It mainly focusses on the improvisational wordplay techniques that Steve Allen developed and used in his career, which if I used I think people around me would find very annoying. Very little of the information in the book can be applied to everyday life. For example, I had no use for the sections on writing comedic television scripts, being a talk show host, doing stand up comedy, or how to sell jokes to established comedians.
This Book Ruined A Vacation.......2002-01-28
Thank God Steve Allen is dead, to save me the trouble of beating his skull in with this useless pile of puffery. Did you know that Steve Allen invented every comedy technique known to man? Talk about about a bitter has-been. Seems that the guy rambled into a tape recorder and some jack-ass typed it up. My problem is that I must finish a book once I start it. Steve Allen, you owe me.
A definite "Must Have" for anybody who needs something!.......2000-11-02
HOW TO BE FUNNY is a book unlike any other. How else would we tell them apart?
Steve Allen's contribution to students of comedy and wit is a wonderful one indeed. Allen and his co-author have a book-long conversation about what is funny, what isn't, and more importantly *why* some things are funnier than others. Whether you want to write funny, talk, walk, or think funny, Steve Allen includes page after page of examples from his radio and television career. My copy is well-worn --albeit slightly small and tight around the waist -- with passages highlighted and underlined.
If you aren't funny (or funnier) after reading this book, well, then try eating it. That will definitely make you feel funny for a little while.
Good book for comic writers, not for conversations........2000-09-07
Originally I bought this book to become funnier in my conversations with others. The title seemed to imply that this would happen, but after reading the book, I found it to be a beginer's book for the comic writer and stand-up comedian. Very little was mentioned about how to develop a funny personality. A total of 10 pages out of 290 were devoted to formulas of why things are funny and this list of reasons was lacking in comprehensiveness. Although I do not doubt Steve Allen's ability to write funny material, I feel he lacks when it comes to writing analytical material. This book should have been titled "How to be a Comic Writer."

You Will be funnier After reading this book !!.......1997-07-18
I purchased a lot of books to develop my stand-up act. I thought I was losing my natural sense of humor that I developed much earlier in my life. Steve Allen's book had me throwing out one liners three hours into it. Following his examples, I found it easy to reverse thoughts, change meanings and come up with new ideas.
Although Steve's book starts out slow with a long definition of what is funny, once you get past Steve's ramblings, the book picks up momentum and puts your brain on receptive.
I reccommend this book highly for anyone who wants a beginning book to help develop their sense of humor.

Book Description
For most of the last 20 years, North Carolina has ranked third in the nation, behind California and New York, in U.S. film production. North Carolina also boasts more production studios and sound stages than any state except California.
The 160-plus entries in this travel guide are arranged geographically and include information about what movies and television series were filmed at each site. The guide also provides information about how to find the locations. The reader will especially enjoy the "Star Tracks" sections, which provide gossipy tidbits about where stars ate and stayed while making their films.
Whether it's Annie Savoy's (Susan Sarandon's) house in Bull Durham, the apartment building where Blue Lady Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) lived in Blue Velvet, or the outflow dam where Dr. Richard Kimball (Harrison Ford) escaped from United States marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) in The Fugitive, this combination travel guide and film history can provide all the details needed to satisfy the most discerning film buff's lust for trivia.

How many times have your out-of-town visitors whined: "Take us to the waterfall in The Last of the Mohicans (1997), or the train wreck in The Fugitive (1993)? Why doesn't somebody come out with a North Carolina travel guide that spotlights our Hollywood connections?
Cue the applause meter-Film Junkie's Guide to North Carolina has finally arrived. The 430-page glove-compartment-sized winner is comprehensive (160 mountain-to-sea locations!), masterfully written (a perfect mix of scholarly insight and insider gossip), and beautifully laid out in a simple reader-friendly format, full of photos, maps, sidebars, and enough movie trivia to make you want to read the book from cover to cover even if you're a stay-at-home couch potato. And bargain-priced at $16.95, even film students can afford it.
Guide is divided into three geographic areas: The Coast, Piedmont, and The Mountains. "Locations" in each area list the places where films and TV shows were shot, including great maps on how to get there. "Star Tracks" list the restaurants, stores, hotels and other places where celebrities used to hang out, or they still do.
Keep a copy of the book in the glove compartment of your car for spontaneous tourist adventures.

The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance
ASIN: 0740742019 |
Book Description
In her latest book, author and intuitive consultant Lynn A. Robinson lights the path to prosperity by showing her readers how to access their true dreams and passions and how to tap into their personal wells of abundance. Refreshingly down to earth and rich with humor, compassion, and compelling tales of success, Real Prosperity points you to financial and spiritual prosperity with sage advice, true stories, inspirational quotes, and quick, practical exercises that add a valuable "how to" factor not often found in this genre. At a time when Americans are sinking into a quagmire of debt and the deeper meaning of life seems to elude even the well off, this wonderful new book offers relief and promises to help you chart a course to a richer, more abundant life. This is not a get-rich-quick or pray-your-way-to-wealth book. Nor is it a book about financial planning and debt reduction. It is, instead, an inspiring and uplifting guide that delivers hope, not hype; workable lessons, not foolish philosophy. In other words, it's a book that can work magic in your life. Read it and you'll agree.
Customer Reviews:
The heart and soul of tapping into abundance.......2007-03-17
Abundance is not just money but vast resources available. A practical read with overtones of spiritual wisdom. The prosperity prayer is one of the best pieces of this book. Lynn Robinson shares some of her and her clients experiences and practices to tapp into sources for a more abundant life. Not woo-woo, not magic, metaphysical but within the realm of using your sixth sense and common sense. Great for small business owners.
POWERFUL & PRICELESS!.......2005-07-10
I discovered REAL PROSPERITY during a time in my life when I was asking GOD some serious questions and researching books on total life prosperity for the highest good of all. Many are weary of get rich schemes and others are weary of giving to the church for fear they will be taken to the bank. What this leaves many humans with is the experience of not having enough money constantly flowing into our lives because we aren't giving out, as well as a feeling of distrust, fear, worry and anxiety about money flowing into our lives because we think there isn't enough available for us. I was so enthusastic when I began reading REAL PROSPERITY and taking notes in my journal. I was most impressed with the flow and ease of REAL PROSPERITY as Lynn Robinson wrote with clarity, wisdom, honesty and compassion. I truly benefited from this empowering, timely and awesome book and I believe you will, too.
Fused with prayers, prose and real life examples, REAL PROSPERITY is a book that will challenge you to live the highest best vision of your life possible while taking full comfort in KNOWING that what you need and when you need it will be provided by the Father (and we are speaking of more than just money). All we have to do is take a look at nature to see GOD's goodness, abundance and love at work.
You'll turn to REAL PROSPERITY again and again as a source of encouragement inspiration and life application that truly works!
Happy Reading!
[...]
It's really true -- you have the power to prosper.......2005-01-01
Lynn effectively connects with the reader in Real Prosperity. By citing real issues that stop many from seeking prosperity, you feel like she's talking with you, 1 on 1. Lynn's heart-felt compassion and understanding shine throughout.
Snipets from her own life experiences and intuitive work with her clients make the concepts more real. Quotes and success stories inspire: some even add some comic relief. The techniques, questions to ask yourself and suggested steps all combine to make this a readable and actionable resource on your path to abundance. Devour it cover to cover, highlight and earmark the parts that speak to you, because you will refer back often. If you're serious about attracting prosperity in your life, this book will show you how to use your intuition to make it happen. Read it, believe prosperity is possible for you, and take action to create it. Further, if someone has helped you achieve prosperity, this book makes a great thank you gift of gratitude.
As someone who also owns Divine Intuition and the Intuitive Life audio tapes, thanks Lynn, for creating another great resource: I'm grateful for your advice and inspiration in achieving prosperity in my life!
Discover the Secrets to Living a Rich Life.......2004-12-09
Why is it that some people enjoy lives of luxury, abundance and success, while others struggle to make ends meet? Intuitive consultant Lynn Robinson answers this question as she illuminates the keys to real prosperity, and how to enjoy a life overflowing with more than enough of what you need and want. Robinson shares tips that have helped her thousands of clients realize their dreams over the years, and describes people who are successful, happy and prosperous as, "It's as if prosperity and success seek them out. They magnetize what they want to create through the power of their mind and emotion."
REAL PROSPERITY helps you listen to your prosperity intuition to discover a personalized roadmap to achieving your goals. REAL PROSPERITY is full of excercises, quotations, and stories that describe a spiritual path to abundance. One of my favorite parts of the book is where Robinson points out that often it's often the bleakest times in our lives that turn out to be launch pads for new opportunities and success. This pattern becomes obvious when successful people look back at their lives... and see how they made the biggest turnarounds in the midst of major life changes.
REAL PROSPERITY is written in the very energy of prosperity it describes, so the very act of reading it immediately boosts one's prosperity consciousness. I give this book my highest recommendation!
Hits the Target with Fresh (and some Familiar) Perspectives.......2004-12-08
The first thing I opened to when I placed this book in my hands was the billfold blessing, written by that well known thinker, Anonymous.
It goes like this:
"Bless this billfold,
Lord I pray
Replenish it from Day to Day.
May the bills flow in and out
Blessing people all about.
Help me earn and wisely spend.
Show me what to buy and lend.
Thank you, Lord, for bills to pay
For the things I need today.
When `tis empty,
Fill it more
From thy vast abundant store".
I appreciated those words - the use of the word "billfold", heard so rarely, brought me in touch with my friend, Tom. The flowing nature of the blessing reminded me of what I already know - some of the standard laws of prosperity... giving and receiving, keeping the flow moving through giving, appreciation of the bills we pay - continual replenishment.... It seems fitting that the first words I read would be some that would resonate so strongly with me given author Lynn Robinson's focus on Intuition.
This book is filled liberally with familiar and unfamiliar quotes... familiar and unfamiliar methods and formulas of becoming prosperous. What was the most magnificent was the unfamiliar - Robinson's unique take on prosperity.
I was disappointed when I saw the familiar, "Decide what you don't want, decide what you do want" but my heart heated up when it saw, "Pump up the positive emotion" followed by "Pay attention to intuition" and gave specific examples and ideas.
I also appreciated Robinson's take on Gratitude "Financial Miracle Gro."
Other new nuggets include listening to Your (Highly Intuitive and Divinely Guided, naturally) Inner Millionaire and my personal favorite of the entire book, "Writing Help Wanted Ads to God." Hey, I am all for creative manifestation.
There are also practical (albeit brief) chapters concerning the path to a debt free life and having a divine investment plan.
Finally, Robinson writes this book as if she was talking to a friend. Her enthusiasm and joy for life floats upon the page quite deliciously. I know I will recommend this one to many, many, many people.
