The art projects in this book are excerpted from the national best-seller Preschool Art, but all redone and illustrated in a smaller version at a nice low price. Collage is just about kids' favorite thing to do from an early age... just glue and glue and paste and tape things, like scrap paper, feathers, buttons, stickers, glitter, things collected from nature like shells and pinecones, and so on. I especially like collage because kids can work so independently, which truly gives them an opportunity to explore the process of art, without as much focus on the product. And more often than not, they will love their "products" too. Have you discovered colored masking tape yet? Orange, green, blue, etc. LOVE IT. ...is the place to find it. Easier than glue anyday. Thanks for looking at this information about my book, and don't limit its use to just preschoolers. The ideas in the book will work all the way through middle school. Great for birthday party activities too!

Bite-sized info for parents.......2001-06-27

I was happy to see these new selections from Gryphon House because they take MaryAnn Kohl's books and break them down into bite-sized pieces. While some projects may be familiar to teachers, it is wonderful to have someone like MaryAnn Kohl put them all together, add a little twist, add her own innovations, and give them to us in book form. You may think that it's easy to think up 100's of project ideas until you give it a try... but then you'll want this book so you won't have to! I've seen MaryAnn teach in workshops and she is wonderful. This comes across in her projects. She truly loves kids and wants them to be creative!

Suited for experienced film photographers only........2005-03-09

I'm looking forward to the other Arthur Morris books (ie. I've got his Shorebirds book which I think is AWESOME). This book, however offers very little value if you are a digital photographer. It's poorly printed, has little useful information for a budding bird photographer, and isn't (to my simple ways) very useful. That said, I think there are other things out there by Mr. Morris that are useful. Compare this book to Bird Photography by Steve Young - that's a book that inspires, coaches, and educates - which I believe Mr. Morris does a great job of in his own classes.

In short, avoid this book unless you're a film buff, but do buy other Arthur Morris books.

A Little Gem Of A Book........2002-09-06

This book is small enough to carry in your camera/gadget bag and is full of essential information which can be referred to in a hurry.

This, together with Arthur Morris' newly available "pocket guide to evaluative metering", are worth their weight in gold. Both are light and convenient enough to carry around with you, until the information stored in these items becomes second nature to you.

What Arthur Morris doesn't know about bird photography and exposure can be written on the back of a postage stamp.

Excellent lightweight field-guide.......1999-06-25

An amazing amount of useful information packed into a booklet not much bigger than the average camera manual.

This is one book that is to be found permanently stashed in my camera bag while out in the African bushveld.

Particularly noteworthy are the chapters dealing with lenses, exposure, film types and composition. When in the field, I find myself often referring to the chapter on exposure, which is one of the clearest most concise expositions I have ever seen on the subject.

The jokes are fast, furious, and really funny. The price of the book is worth it just for one particular comic strip... it's been years since I first read it, but I still get a hearty laugh every time I read the "St. Francis" gag.

Clearly the best book until now in this new series.......2006-11-18

After a 15-year-break from chess, IM Rizzitano has finally returned to tournament play. Within a short period of time he has now written even more books than other authors do during their whole lifes through, but thishas not taken bad influence on the quality of the books. On the contrary: in my eyes, his books become better and better.

His current book on the Taimanov-sicilian has to compete with some strong
prodecessors such as Taimanov's own book, a nice book by Graham Burgess
and a recent book by grandmaster Alexander Delchev who is a known expert
on the Taimanov. I think Rizzitano has no reason at all to hide behind those famous names. As Rizzitano's game against Shabalov shows, he has had
some very interesting novelties prepared before returning to tournament play.

I am delightened to see his great explanations, showing the connection between opening and middlegame in an almost perfect manner. He uses 25
modelgames to show the currently very popular lines as the english attack
as well as Taimanov's original handling with ...Nge7 and lesser known
sidelines.

As far as I am concerned, this clearly is the best book of this new series
and I am looking forward for further books written by Rizzitano. Just great!

The Best Book on the Taimanov Sicilian.......2006-11-12

The Taimanov Sicilian is currently the fastest-growing Sicilian Defense Variation among strong players - if you play this opening as Black or need to know how to meet it as White, this book is an essential part of your opening preparation. A fantastic book!

My book was missing pages from 33 to like 65. They were not torn out the printer made some sort of mistake. So buyer beware.

im not sure what he was thinking with this book, cause it looks like plaskett probalby spent some time writing/compiling this, but ultimately he produced nothing special at all.

you can probably read this book and not be any better at playing the taimanov than before...

A Flop.......2001-06-01

Compared to other Sicilians, the Taimanov is relatively slow-developing, giving White few immediate targets. At the same time, it is a flexible system, and depending on the move order can readily transpose to the Scheveningen or Sveshnikov Sicilians. I had hoped for some detailed discussions of the concepts behind the opening, as well as explanation of move orders and transpositions. On both fronts I was disappointed. This book is skimpy in verbal explanations, and even the annotations and analysis are pretty bare-bones. There isn't a master index of variations. A major disappointment overall. If you're interested in the Taimanov, a better bet would be Graham Burgess' recent book. It's not that great on verbal explanations either, but gets top marks on the technical side.

The Sicilian Taimanov.......2000-05-31

I must say that I was quite disappointed after buying the book. The book was written by GM Plaskett of England. He covers most of the important variations of the Taimanov with some games from top level grandmaster play in the 90s. There are 10 chapters followed by a summary of variations. There is a decent amount of verbal commentary in each of the games however one of my pet peeves was the dearth of analysis of any of the games. I think this is a good book if you are at least expert strength and are a regular Taimanov player. However, i think this book must be supplemented by another opening text. I am not sure if there is that much more material here that is useful than can already be found in MCO or NCO.

Buy the updated version!!.......2001-05-12

It is a well written book, but this edition is plagued with print errors, and mistakes in at least one chart. Don't make the same mistake I did; buy the last edition (I bought mine on the store with very little time ...) Anyway, I guess the last version is corrected and updated. I like the fact that mixes personal experience with academic and corporate studies about the market!

Good Content / Great Value.......1999-07-02

For the price this is a great book to learn and help understand the specifics that make up all the basics in trading commodity-futures. After reading this book, I felt as if I had taken a formal college course on the subject of Futures and understood it much better from various angles now. There's no "hype" in the book, no agendas, no further products or services to buy being pitched to you, just plain vanilla (ok, french vanilla) basics being laid out for you in textbook fashion for you to digest in your own terms. I like that - it's refreshing in a way. It is probably like this because it was really written 20+ years ago (don't worry, it's been revised many times to be modernized - 5th edition, 1993). The book was originally written and printed in "Commodities" magazine as a popular mini-course series (before the magazine changed it's name to the modern "Futures" magazine we know it as today). Even though I knew much of the content from personal experience (the most costly way) or from other readings, my CTA, etc, I did not always understand the "why" behind the rules I was following & how the markets work the way they do from both a technical and fundmental perspective (dynamics). Of the some 28 chapters, I really took interest in almost every one. I can't say that about most of the other trading books I've read. Put it this way... if I could keep only 5 trading books, this would be one of them. You'll likely dump more than that on the commissions for 1 trade - or, worse yet, even more than that on 1 bad trade. ** Beginners, I recommend the following: If your goal is to have deeper pockets from trading - then you must first go deeper in your understanding of futures markets & trading them (i.e. Read the book).
