Book Description
The art scene in Cuba is thriving as never before. Young, politically active artists are stretching the limits of creative freedom and, as tourism to Cuba continues to increase, making their mark in the international art world. Coming at a time when Americans' interest in the country and its art is at a peak, this is the first major survey to show the wide range of art coming out of Cuba today.
Overflowing with illustrationsincluding 100 colorplatesArt Cuba presents exciting new works, most produced in the past five years, by more than 60 artists. The mediums extend from oil on canvas, pen and ink, watercolor, lithography, and mosaic to photography, sculpture, embroidery, and performance art. The essays examine the changes in Cuban art in the decades since the Revolution and the new directions it is taking today. This comprehensive look at Cuban art today is an important addition to the literature on contemporary art.

Untitled
Macromedia Flash MX ActionScripting: Advanced Training From the Source teaches readers ActionScript using a hands-on, project-based approach. This book will be different in several ways. Instead of just explaining how scripting works, explains scripting by translating real-life activities into scripts, so that users can begin to see the association of how programming and scripting is something they instinctively already know how to do. Readers will be shown many methodologies and techniques for building nearly thirty real-life Flash ActionScript projects, including sample games, wireless applications, Web sites, and more, enabling them to work faster and more efficiently. The companion CD-ROM contains all project files and images necessary for each project in the book.

While Mike and Kim get serious, B.D. goes back to Vietnam and runs into an old friend--or was that enemy? Duke helps Donald Trump with some real estate problems, and in Washington it's time for Clinton versus Dole. Life as usual on Planet Doonesbury. Trudeau has never allowed himself to be left behind by events, and this volume, which tackles everything from Bob Dole's desperate desire for victory to Donald Trump's desperate desire for more money, shows that he remains in tip-top satirical condition as "Doonesbury" prepares to enter its fourth decade. Once again, political commentary is expertly blended with the ongoing story of Mike, Mark, Zonker, and friends as they struggle with encroaching middle age, sexual orientation, and the generation gap.
After Trudeau created the sequence about Donald Trump's aggressive attempts to grab property around his Atlantic City casino, "The Donald" said that "Trudeau is a jerk. A total loser. A pathetic moron. A third-rate talent." We'd guess that Mr. Trump is in a pretty small minority. --Simon Leake
Customer Reviews:
old, irrelevant, not creative, third-rate talent.......2003-09-02
Doonesbury is at least 20 years past its prime now, not a bit creative now and trys to get attention with shock-value, but even that isn't working anymore. Trudeau has run out of ideas, barely focuses on the characters, and no longer seems to remember what the strip is about. Trudeau has an easy enough job now, he watches Leno or Letterman, he steals one of their jokes, he weaves it into his strip 2 days later and is unable to make the joke work. The graphics are terrible and he goes for low-blows now of people just for shock-value. Peanuts, Blondie, Dilbert, even Family Circus are all most creative than Doonesbury. Peanuts will be around forever, Doonesbury has about a 48-hours shelf life, the second Trudeau dies, nobody will even remember Doonesbury.
I May be in the Minority, but I Really Dislike "Doonesbury".......2000-12-05
I find "Doonesbury" irritating. I have never been able to like the strip, although I do respect the fact that is politically relevant and topical. The characters are annoying.
Alex is the freshest brat to land a regular part in a comic strip in years. A ruthless little barracuda, she appears to have a rather sadistic, sociopathic personality. I also dislike the stupid things she calls her dad, such as "dadster, popster, popmeister, poppadoodle" and the like. That is very irritating. Alex is very irritating.
I don't like Kim, the tough as nails little sneaky flirt one iota. She's a major irritant. Good old Doonesbury himself lets nasty Alex and sneaky Kim make a monkey out of him. Some comic crusader!
Duke and his equally slimy, smarmy son are the male versions of that nasty Alex. Airhead Boopsie, B.D., Zonker and the rest of the bunch are for the birds as well.
I was a history major and I don't like the way "Doonesbury" lampoons real events with this cast of unappealing characters. I am a democrat and I intensely dislike "Doonesbury." One good thing about not being famous is you don't have to worry about being ridiculed in a "Doonesbury" strip, which has turned put downs into state of the art. I just don't like it.
A good comic, but not for the uninitiated.......1998-05-12
Planet Doonesbury, continues the intricately woven narrative of the Trudeau universe. It remains surprisingly inventive and quirky even in the face of less-than-stirring current events. Fans of the Dukester will be a bit dissappointed by his sporadic appearance, but equal time is given to each of the other main characters. Read Virtual Doonesbury first, it'll make things more enjoyable.
ground-breaking.......1998-05-08
Hi, I have recently re-read some old collections of Doonesbury, and I just finished reading Planet Doonesbury, the latest collection. I am a writer myself, and yet words almost fail me. From the innovative cover of the latest collection to the timelessness of the classic seventies strips, the richness never fades. What struck me now was the amazing complexity the strip has developed. Not the least in the (sunday) strips about Alex and her Dad-o-rama Popmeister. The warmth and the humor alone and seperately would be a triumph for any other strip. Add to that an innovative narrative and graphic interface, and, well. What to say? I am born in Denmark in 1963, and I still live here. Yet Doonesbury enriches my life. I shudder to think what it would mean to me had I been an American university graduate born in 1946. Thank you Garry.

A Ripping Good Read, What?.......2004-12-08
The diehard Wodehouse reader, having savoured of the Master's best, may justly wonder what possible good can come of yet another reviewer shoving in his oar. Suddenly noticing how warm it is, I run a finger around my collar, and fumble out, in a manner reminiscent of one Bertie Wooster, the only possible answer: "Er...I rather thought I would."
Strengthened by a beaker and overcoming my diffidence, I warm to my theme: that there aren't many books from 1903, that is to say, over 100 years ago, that one still feels like reading. And it's rather ripping, really, that this book is really three books: The Pothunters, A Prefect's Uncle, and Tales of St. Austin's. I mean more for your money, what? And the last tome is really a lot of short stories, with a longish one rivaling anything Plum ever wrote.
Adding that most of them were scrawled out for a boys' rag called The Captain, and that they're all about the good ol' school and cricket and footer and all that, and given all the bilge being shoved out these days on the reading public, odds on twenty-five to one that my readers would give them a miss, not knowing that they're red-hot stuff. As someone said--I think it was the poet Burns. Jeeves would know. No wait--it was Colin McInnes: "Behind this seemingly effortless performance there is infinite skill, and a splendid, kindly wisdom; and in these early books, we can observe the young Wodehouse learning to enchant us with these two rare and beautiful gifts." Or maybe it was the poet Burns. Anyway, it's a ripping good read.

Book Description
This important anthology addresses established notions about Third Cinema theory, and the cinema practice of developing and postcolonial nations. The "Third Cinema" movement called for a politicized film-making practice in Africa, Asia and Latin America, one which would take on board issues of race, class, religion, and national integrity. The films which resulted from the movement, from directors such as Ousmane Sembene, Satyajit Ray and Nelson Pereira dos Santos, are among the most culturally significant, politically sophisticated and frequently studied films of the 1960s and 1970s. However, despite the contemporary popularity and critical attention enjoyed by films from Asia and Latin America in particular, Third Cinema and Third Cinema theory appears to have lost its momentum.

Savvy in the City: San Francisco: A "See Jane Go" Guide to City Living
ASIN: 0967489881 |
Book Description
Café culture has long played an integral role in San Francisco's history and cosmopolitan lifestyle. This delightful guidebook leads travelers and residents alike on a deliciously caffeinated tour of over 340 cafés in the city and East Bay. Each listing includes an address, phone number, and short write-up, giving readers a taste of each spot's unique ambience. Nearly all entries are pictured in full-color photos that capture the feel and atmosphere of a café. Some entries come with a story - the Caffe Proust, for example, is paired with an account of Marcel Proust's café experiences. There are also recipes, menus, vignettes, and profiles of local artists, café owners, and, of course, coffee-lovers, including Francis Ford Coppola, comedian Will Durst, and former mayor Willie Brown. Organized by neighborhood, the book offers a lovely walking tour of San Francisco's unique charms.
Customer Reviews:
San Francisco coffee scenes.......2004-05-27
What a great, interesting book! I came across this guide at the counter of a local cafe that is actually featured in the book. The book organizes coffee houses and cafes according to neighborhoods of San Francisco. In each of the neighborhoods are featured cafes, their stories, menus, and even some of the recipes. I know some great cafes must have been missed and omitted since coffee houses in San Francisco come and go and there are a plethora of them (not counting Starbucks, of course) that accentuate neighborhood identity. It would be a strenuous project to keep up-to-date of all the newcomers in the industry (so I'll expect, maybe, a yearly edition?). A great headstart and a perfect coffee-table book for barista connoisseur and just the daily dosers!
Where has this book been all my life?.......2003-09-23
Well, damn. I mean, I LIVE here, and why haven't I seen this book before? There are unique cafes everywhere in San Francisco's cosmopolitan Bay Area, and what can be more cosmopolitan than discovering a new one, sitting at streetside between the fog rolling out and rolling back in, sipping a latte, and indulging in a little People Watching? I love it. There are more than 300 wonderful color photos, a directory to the more than 340 cafes profiles, lots of vignettes, tidbits, gossip items, and even some recipes.
What's not to love?

An amazing book to the Game of the Century.......2006-03-27
I just purchased the book and I fell in love instantly. The reason i have bought this book and love the music is because I heard the music before ever even playing the game so as a pianist and music lover it is my duty to tell you people search E-Bay its respecatble and its there ^_^
A Wonderful Score for a Wonderful Game.......2005-06-14
Final Fantasy VII is an amazing game with amazing music by Nobuo Uematsu. Whether you're a hardcore fan or a Final Fantasy beginner, and whether you're a piano expert or a piano novice, this book will serve you well! A must buy!
A lover of Music . . ........2004-09-12
First off, I do not own this book, but it's not for want of trying. I know the music from this particualr game is great and wonderful, and so too, should be the book that allows you to play it yourself. If anyone has a copy they are willing to sell to me, be sure to go to http://www.wereden.com and e-mail me. Thanks!
Nobuo Uematsu.......2002-06-05
Well... Whats there to say other than one of his best piano collections ever. The music is arranged nicely although it dosen't sound as good as in the game. Because it can only be really complete if played on the piano. I wished the would've writteen it a little eaiser so you could transfer it to other instruments.
All in all wow a great book. If you enjoy anything final fantasy (other than the movie ) i would make this a definitive to your collection.
One of the Greatest Piano Books You Can Find.......2002-04-15
This piano book is great. It is a little difficult to read at first but if you truly love the music it won't matter. Doremi did an excellent job with the notes. They did it to the exact way it was played in Final Fantasy VII. Also, all the songs from the game are in there from the Prelude to Staff Roll. If you loved the game and the music and you play the piano, you should buy this book.

This is the greatest piano book I have ever had. This is Nobuo Uematsu's greatest soundtrack and the piano book is exactly note to note just like the soundtrack. Excellent Piano Music from Final Fantasy VI.......2001-03-09
Released in America as Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy VI is probably one of the most memorable RPG games released for the Super NES. The sheet music, containing every single musical selection from the game, is well-written, expressive, and easily recognized by Squaresoft fans. The music is written for the intermediate to advanced piano player, with a variety of keys and styles being incorporated. All the music is titled in english, which helps to navigate through the nearly 200-page book. As a fan of Squaresoft's excellent role-playing games as well as a veteran piano player, this is one of the best piano books I have ever found. I have learned a great deal on how to sight-read with it, and there isn't a piece in the book I don't like to play. I think that even those who are not familiar with Squaresoft games would still find the music enjoyable.

Involved in History in the making.......2003-08-08
Listening to these dramatic short samples of BBC recordings is a real privilege. Some segments are only a few sentences and others up to a few minutes in length. Most of these are eye-witness descriptions that are both engaging and gripping for their "you are there" sense. It includes some of the most famous sound-bites from Churchill and Roosevelt, but also a reporter's moving description of school children being evacuated from London, with all its pathos. I recommend it to anyone who values history, and seeks to know distant events in a more close-up experience.

Best Guide Ever.......2002-12-12
This is the absolute best guide i have ever read. It gives detailed facts on all the mechs including the ones from the lousy patch-in-a-box mech paks. Some even have Cyberlore employee custom designs. That is the best part Cyberlore helped them bring this book to its creation.
They include a complete weapons chart broken into three parts for ease of use. Some single player strategies for the missions and Solaris VII along with multiplayer strategies. It gives you the starting equipment and c-bills of each company along with the advantage of that specific company. There is also a list of lancemates for hire. All mission requirements are given along with when they are available and when they will become closed permenately.
This is the guide to buy for all your Mech 4: Mercs needs.

Solid, good #2 book.......2007-02-03
This is the third "how to get a job in pharma sales" book that I'm reading. Both "Insight into a Career in Pharmaceutical Sales" and "Ïnsiders Guide to the World of Pharmaceutical Sales" provide more comprehensive treatments of the actual tactics for getting a job in the industry. However, Mr. Melfa provides tactical information for actually succeeding as a pharma rep once you've landed a position, and this information is not included in either of the either two texts. This book is an excellent companion to pair with either of those two. I give Mr. Melfa credit, though, for actually responding to my email. Thanks, Frank!
Absolut Read.......2006-03-02
Wonderful book! I too have read many books on how to break into the pharmaceutical industry. If you have plenty of time read them all. However, if you are looking for a book that cuts through the fluff and tells you exactly what to expect, buy pharmaceutical landing.
Good, Practical Read on Pharma Sales Jobs.......2006-02-21
I am looking for a career change and I have read with great enjoyment your book Pharmaceutical Landing.
It offered some of the most practical advice regarding getting a pharmaceutical job...and I have read 5 books on the topic.
I do not have pharma experience and have done what you have suggested ... do your homework. I have spoken with many doctors (10), current reps (12) and pharmacists (2). One physician, in fact, is getting me clearance to attend a dinner program in which he is speaking. I have developed my presentation skills focusing on a specific therapeutic area with copies of reprints, package inserts, etc. I also have put together a brag book.
I am moving now through the interview stages with several companies and am confident that I will be getting an offer shortly.
Thanks again for the good read and the very practical and helpful information.
Heard It Before.......2005-12-23
Unfortunately this is another book contains the same information as all the past written books on pharmaceutical sales. It seems mr. Melfa spends most of the time "tooting his horn" then focusing on the subject at hand...selling pharmaceuticals. I would save your money.
Direct and to the point by a current district manager.......2005-12-01
I found this book to be very helpful. I like the way the author gets right to the point about what it takes to land and succeed in pharma sales. Plus, he is in the business right now-not 5 years ago like many other authors. He conducts interviews himself so he can tell you exactly what the drug co's are looking for. No doubt other books go into more detail, but this is the perfect book to begin researching with. You will know if pharma sales are for you and what to do next after reading this book.
