Artists of the Spirit presents 16 biographies of wise people.......1999-04-18
When faced with life-changing events, sixteen artists and seers (whose stories I tell in ARTISTS OF THE SPIRIT, New Prophets in Art and Mysticism) reacted creatively and also altruistically to put their new insights at the service of others. They are models of highly aware persons who act as scouts for the rest of us. Their stories suggest that in the contemporary phase of human evolution, it is our creative imagination that continues to expand, leading us upward toward what Teilhard de Chardin called "the Omega point," where spirit will illuminate mind.

Book Description
It isn't enough to be able to design. It isn't even enough to be able to debug. To be a real fault finder, you must be able to get a feel for what is going on in the circuit you are examining. In this book Robin Pain explains the basic techniques needed to be fault finder.
Simple circuit examples are used to illustrate principles and concepts fundamental to the process of fault finding. This is not a book of theory. It is a book of practical tips, hints, and rules of thumb, all of which will equip the reader to tackle any job, whether it is fixing a TV, improving the sound from a hi-fi, or locating the fault in a piece of process equipment. You may be an engineer or technician in search of information and guidance, a college student, a hobbyist building a project from a magazine, or simply a keen self-taught amateur who is interested in electronic fault finding but finds books on the subject too mathematical or specialised. But you have one thing lacking, no fault-finding strategy. Seasoned
professional designers have that peculiar knowledge of their own work and specialised knowledge of its components to allow them to analyse and remove faults quickly on the spot (design errors take a little longer!). Fault finders can never have this depth of specialisation;
commercial pressures demand a minimum-knowledge-to-do-the-job approach. Practical Electronic Fault Finding and Troubleshooting describes the fundamental principles of analog and digital fault finding (although of course there is no such thing as a `digital fault' - all faults are by nature analog). This book is written entirely for a fault finder using only the basic fault-finding equipment: a digital multimeter and an oscilloscope. The treatment is non-mathematical (apart from Ohm's Law) and all jargon is strictly avoided. Robin Pain was originally trained to service colour TV, and has worked as an industrial fault finder for manufacturers of mobile radio, audio equipment, microcomputers and medical equipment. He has lectured at home and abroad on microcomputer fault finding.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting but...........2006-11-28
I have read and re-read this book and find it interesting but it lacks proper outlines and steps to follow. Shows some unique insights but doesn't give enough examples and step by step procedures to follow when troubleshooting. Overall it is a good book to have but I don't think it is worth the list price of $47.00 or even half that. I put the value around $14.00.
Book Description
With clear, step-by-step instructions, young artists will learn to draw a variety of fun and friendly cartoon monsters.
Starting with the basic shapes, the easily-followed lessons lead to full-color final drawings. And in addition to traditional favorites such as Frankenstein, Count Dracula, the Mummy and vampires, Steve Barr includes a number of originals.
1-2-3 Draw Cartoon Monsters includes plenty of humor and encouragement, including a reproducible cartoonist's apprentice certificate.
Customer Reviews:
Loads of Fun!.......2004-12-12
Not only was this book easy to use and understand, it was fun to experiment with. Each monster starts out with a set of shapes that really don't look like they'd form much of anything, but as each step progresses, you start seeing a character come alive before your very eyes, and before you know it, you've drawn something that looks like it could go into a comic strip!

Book Description
Computers are those unfathomable contraptions everyone everywhere loves to hate. We can't live with them, but we can't live without them. Contempt for our byte-based existence has developed universal appeal crossing boundaries of culture, economics, religion, and language. Everyone you know has a "those stupid computers" story. If you think you have heard it all, STOP.
The digital revolution began in 1951. Computer Factoids chronicles behind-the-scenes digital weirdness from Day One. Kirk Kirksey covers the landscape of computer history, cyber legend, digital mythology, and Internet lore. Put away your pocket protector because you won't find any techno-babble on these pages. Each of these 39 high-tech yarns is an easy-read with a serious dose of attitude. Whether it is a computer powered by rotting potatoes or a symphony performed by obsolete dot-matrix printers or a computerized bra equipped with a modem, these tales of the digital surreal will make you stand up and shout, "Honey, you're not going to believe this."
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2005-07-28
Kirk's book is great! Chock full of neat facts with delightful originality. A must read for the thinking professional. I am looking forward Kirk's next book!
I never knew..........2005-06-25
Very unusual. A must if computers ever get you down (they really are stupid machines). Brainy and well written.
I liked it so much - I bought the book!.......2005-05-24
Mr. Kirksey has definitely captured the essence of what makes computing entertaining! I'm sure everyone has heard a few of these computer myths and legends -- but Kirk Kirksey tells the "rest of the story." A must read. I borrowed the book and read it on a cross-country airline trip -- liked it so much, I had to buy it!
I couldn't put it down.......2005-05-15
Wow, what a great book. Light reading for a Sunday morning - so good I couldn't put it down. From an explanation of how the Microsoft Windows start-up tune was invented to Dominos Pizza doing marketing research by collecting tons of crumbs from computer keyboards. This is a fascinating book. I really couldn't put it down once I got started. I fully expect to see the author on David Letterman someday. And we'll certainly be hearing some of these stories copied in speeches and articles for some time to come. Highly recommended.
Book Description
A captivating mix of history, biography, and entertainment, this is a behind-the-scenes account from the writer and producer of the acclaimed CBS miniseries about Sally Hemings, the slave mistress of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States. Taking 16 years to write and produce, this book chronicles the extensive research conducted, including the shocking DNA discovery that Jefferson fathered a child with Hemings, as well as the responsibilities involved with producing this controversial tale. Also included is the full screenplay for the miniseries.

Another View.......2003-05-13
I think that this book should not have been rated on the basis of grammatical errors. It seems condescending and arrogant. It seems especially irrelevant when very good writers, including Jefferson, would occasionally mispell a few words.
I read the book and saw the movie, and I thought the first part of it, particulary the part relating to the alleged time spent in France, was excellent. I think she did a good job in completing what must have seemed an impossible task which could not have been easy from start to finish.
My only complaint, however, is that in relasing the movie within the desired time frame, there seemed to have been more of an allowance for the misrepresentation or elaboration of many of the facts.
While I do believe that Jefferson fathered these children, I think, the part of the movie depicting the alleged events upon the return to America was entertaining, but should have been researched more for accuracy with regard to the actual depiction of time, dates, and events.
Tina Andrews, in her book gives many reasons for her elaboration in dealing with various matters. But in depicting the life of such an important man as Thomas Jefferson, and especially in how he will be consequently viewed by young and impressionable minds from having watched the movie, I think respectfully, more time should have been devoted for a more accurate depiction.
Was There a (Manuscript) Doctor in the House?.......2002-12-01
Interesting, but poorly edited: too many misspellings and grammatical errors detract from admirable account of author's travails in getting the movie made; her clear dislike of the film's director amounts to "telling tales out of school."
The film was successful; she would have been better off forgiving the director's derelictions and hiring a decent manuscript editor.
Fascinating.......2001-06-01
I vaugely remembered Tina Andrews from her acting days. How she goes from being a contract performer on a soap opera to a movie writer and producer is a fascianting story. I'd buy the book for this alone. The struggle to make the Sally Hemmings mini-series is another remarkable tale. Although I think the actress playing Sally was miscast,(I collect books on Sally Hemmings and the actress looks nothing like the description given by both whites and former slaves of Sally) and the addition of the beating scene was unnecessary I enjoyed the mini-series. Ms. Andrews overcame huge odds to bring this story to the public. If you are interested in Sally Hemmings or if you are interested in how movies get made or if you want a glimpse of what it's really like to be black in Hollywood then check this book out.

Yippie, Another Trade Show.......2007-05-14
Marketing professioals rarely cheer at the thought of doing trade shows, but they are a necessary part of their job. This book does a great job of providing a step by step thought process for achieving better success.
While you may already be doing many of the things suggested in the book, the book makes you see the big picture of getting more done and tracking the results.
Good Book.......2007-01-09
You'll learn some valuable lessons from this book. I think you should buy several books on the subject in order to get more information. Each book will teach you something different, which will broaden your understanding of the field.
An absolute must for the tradeshow exhibitor.......2006-06-21
I can't think of any other book investment I made that has paid off as much as this book. This book has much information to turn the clueless into a master tradeshow exhibitor. It has clear instructions that are easy to follow with planning timelines, checklists, etc. As costs are climbing and competition increasing, it's very important to squeeze out as much juice from the tradeshow as possible. This book will definitely give you an edge.
MADE ME THINK AND SAVED US $$.......2006-03-01
I have been to so many trade shows (as an attendee) and I thought I knew what it took to have a successful booth; nevertheless I ordered this book for my husband since he is setting up his first trade show booth this month. It's a good thing I skimmed it and that he's reading it from cover to cover because it made us realize our whole strategy (since his product is rather specialized) was wrong. Ironically we will even save $ by using the author's more simplistic approach as well as properly training his staff members in advance with the marketing/sales advice given by this author. I'm very impressed with the author and grateful that others gave this a great review, which motivated me to buy this book first!
The best trade show book I have read.......2005-11-20
This book is concise and clear. It provides real advice for companies of any size- advice on how to generate more leads, in less time, from higher-quality trade show prospects.
If you are looking for a book that tells you how to design your trade show booth, this is not the right book for you. But if you are looking for a book that will help you and your sales team maximize your results, give Mr. Miller's book a shot.
We have been exhibiting at a particular industrly trade show for three years prior, but this year we followed much of the advice in this book. We had a GREAT show. I had ordered another trade show book on-line that was over four hundred pages long. That was four hundred pages too long - the other book was terrible!
This book is easy to read and the advice is practical. Measure your team's performance, watch your time with each booth visitor, qualify your leads ASAP, and remember- every trade show visitor is in a BUYING attitude! Have a great show.
