This book features several characters from his "Peculia" tales—stories which revolve around a mysterious waif-like girl, her very strange acquaintances, and her tendency, through no fault of her own, to find herself facing a variety of awful creatures and ghastly goings-on.

For years, Sala has promised his readers a full-length "Peculia" novel that would shed some light on the background of the intrepid young wanderer, and they won't be disappointed. No previous exposure to any of Sala's stories is necessary, however. Don't get too attached to Noelle, Honor and Wren. They are young, cute, affable babysitters. Unfortunately, they have entered Peculia's world, and Peculia's world is one of semi-comic horror.

As the title of this book suggests, there are vampires afoot. Tired, perhaps, of seeking their prey in the wild or in alleys on the seamy side of town, industrious vamp Nicola takes the novel approach of hiring babysitters -- four of them, to be exact -- when she and her family feel peckish. But when only three members of the local babysitters' club show up for duty, they quickly draft the services of Peculia, who just happens to be passing by en route to buy cereal. George, a young boy with a big crush on Noelle, comes along for what promises to be a quiet evening.

Only it's not. Besides Nicola, who chooses one babysitter for herself, there are three more bloodsuckers in the house: Frekerika, a young, sharp-featured girl; Agenetta, a gargoyle-faced baby; and Grandmama, an ancient, billowing crone. And, while the sitters all seem conscientious enough about their jobs, that may not be enough to save them from thirsty fangs. But Peculia is a bit cleverer than the rest, and besides, George is still on the loose. And George might just have met an important, if unkempt, friend in a camp of Germanic gypsies on the outskirts of town earlier that day.

"Peculia & the Groon Grove Vampires" is a sexy black-and-white graphic novel in which the humor is subtle, and the violence is real but not grotesque. The monsters look like monsters, while the babysitters look like the sort of appealing young girls who never fare well in teen slasher movies. Peculia herself is quick and resourceful.

This book is a wonderful collection of quotes from children that have been overheard by grandma and grandpa. It is thoughtful, touching and just down right hilarious. I recommend this book to ANYONE: parents, grandparents, teachers, children, pastors etc. because there is something in it that we all can relate to. It maker a wonderful present and really lets your childs, or your, grandma and grandpo know you care no matter where they live.

The concept of intertextuality has proven of inestimable value in recent attempts to understand the nature of literature and its relation to other systems of cultural meaning. In The Memory of Tiresias, Mikhail Iamposlki presents the first sustained attempt to develop a theory of cinematic intertextuality.
Building on the insights of semiotics and contemporary film theory, Iampolski defines cinema as a chain of transparent, mimetic fragments intermixed with quotations he calls "textual anomalies." These challenge the normalization of meaning and seek to open reading out onto the unlimited field of cultural history, which is understood in texts as a semiotically active extract, already inscribed.
Quotations obstruct mimesis and are consequently transformed in the process of semiosis, an operation that Iampolski defines as reading in an aura of enigma. I found Eitington's The Winning Trainer the best of the category. If you were to have only one training book for limited space available for your suitcase, I recommend this. Actually, when I leave my office for an overseas assignment, The Winning Trainer is always my companion. It is comprehensive and practical. Yes, it is the reference for active trainers.

No one in the training field or doing anything even close (teachers take note!) should be without this book. I started workshops for high school students and have done exhaustive research, and spent a great deal of money. This book is by far one of the most outstanding resources anyone could have. I have covered mine to keep it from tattering, since I use it constantly in planning. It is so comprehensive...you can start with just a subject/topic...and find dozens of ways to present it. You can be a novice, or an experienced professional and benefit from this book. I simply don't have the words to express how valuable it has been to me. It is a gold mine of information about the teaching and learning processes.

Excellent! The Bible of Training - Old and New Testament!.......1998-09-22

For a new trainer, this tome has proven to be an invaluable source of ideas, inspiration, examples, watch-outs, suggestions, and additional resources. Without this book, my first training sessions would have been lackluster meanderings into unfamiliar (and dangerous) territory. Mr Eitington's suggestions, guidelines and examples served to help me structure and flesh-out my seminar to be a strong success. The book is clearly organized with both a Table of Contents and an Index, and every chapter is broken down into relevant, digestible chunks. This guide focuses only a little on actually setting up and starting a training, in favor of creating a great deal of detail on training techniques, scenarios, and tools. The copiable sheets (for everything from pre-work to team games to feedback) 1included at the end of the book also provide much creative fodder, as well as saving a great deal of time. Of the five training guides I have, this is the one I use more than 80% of the time.
