Hi,..I was very pleased as always with anything that I order from Amazon,..Thanks!!!

5 out of 5 stars Pleased.......2006-08-06

This book has delightful designs, on single sides of the pages, allowing paint or markers if wanted. Designs are for most ages also.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful on the windows.......2006-04-17

We got this for our 8-year old boys and loved the designs and the stained glass effect of the colored pictures on the windows. My 10-year old boy liked them too so we went through the book in just a few months and now need to order another Ruth Heller coloring book.

5 out of 5 stars Kids love these!.......2005-05-31

I used to teach 7th grade science. I made these coloring books available to the kids to work on after finishing their class work. They LOVED them! Even the boys...

4 out of 5 stars Not her best collection.......2002-11-07

I have several coloring design books that I use to help me relax and express my creativity when I feel the need but don't have the time to write alot. Most of the designs are fun to color and have enough variety to make you want to move onto the next one. However, some of the designs are rather large in terms of the space between lines and this eats up pens, pencils, or markers like crazy. I also don't think this larger pieces are as relaxing and as entertaining to color.

        Book Description

For developing countries, vocational training is a vital component of the drive to enhance productivity, stimulate economic competitiveness, and lift people out of poverty. However, training provision in many countries is underfinanced and fragmented, and traditional state-funded training programs are proving inadequate to the task.

Financing Vocational Training in Sub-Saharan Africa emphasizes the central role that financing strategies should play in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of training systems as a whole, through incentives, greater competition, and the integration of private and public provision.

This book describes the emerging consensus about best practice in the financing of training, drawing on experience in Latin America and Asia, and testing this consensus against findings from Sub-Saharan Africa. It sets out the case for financing interventions by governments and scrutinizes the role and effectiveness of national training agencies, payroll levies, and alternative transfer mechanisms for institutional funding. The discussion draws on lessons from the experience of Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

This book will be of particular interest to policymakers and practitioners of vocational training in developing countries, to development policy analysts, and to students and scholars of education and training systems worldwide.

          Book Description

In no region other than Africa is the trade-off drawn more sharply between the achievement of skills development with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and providing universal basic education. Both are important to economic growth and poverty reduction, but the fiscal and administrative capacity of the state to meet both goals is limited. The presence of HIV/AIDS and its deskilling of the labor force compounds the problem. Defining the role of the state more strategically in the provision and financing of TVET is essential to achieving Education for All and the poverty reduction goal of the Millennium Development Goals. Confronting this trade-off is the objective of Skills Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Written to inform clients, donors, and World Bank staff about TVET experience over the past decade, Skills Development in Sub-Saharan Africa builds a dialogue around this experience. The study sets out to update knowledge and explore issues and recent developments in TVET and distill lessons as a guide to future skills development in the region. The focus of the analysis is on the economics of skills development. Provision of financing of TVET are examined through the lens of economic efficiency, balanced with attention to social equity.

            Book Description

Life as Concrete is about to change forever. Former speechwriter Ron Lithgow returns as the title character of Paul Chadwick's critically acclaimed and award-winning miniseries. Trapped in an alien's rock-hard body, Lithgow is an accidental celebrity whose high profile is being courted by a front-page CEO. Though Concrete believes overpopulation to be an important issue, does he want to become the spokesperson for a controversial population control program? While Concrete mulls this generous proposition over with his biologist, Maureen, his longtime aide Larry Munro mulls over an entirely different sort of proposal. Life and violent death take center stage in this compelling new collection from an industry-renowned creative master, and the subject of overpopulation is given the trademark thoughtful exploration that Chadwick fans have come to expect.

5 out of 5 stars Story for all ages.......2007-06-09

Nothing against super heroes, but Concrete shows the depth that can be portrayed in comic book form. Chadwick has also issued stories, but the comics are complete in many other ways. There is no violence nor sex yet it is entertaining for adults as well as teenagers. Concrete is humorous, sentimental, thought provoking, and entertaining. I wish a movie had been made, even a tv show since the concept of a human trapped in an alien body has a lot of mileage.

5 out of 5 stars Have you read many thought-provoking comic-books?.......2007-05-08

Well, you can add this one to the list. Although I am an a truly avid comic-book reader, I cannot say I have read many titles that make me think after reading them. And hey, that's OK, but with Mr Chadwick's big opus Concrete you get the bonus: an entertaining, well-written story with real and likable characters PLUS a thought-provoking and feeling-filled drama. Highly recommended, as all Concrete's titles.

            3 out of 5 stars An interesting, award-winning novel.......2003-07-20

In a series of letters to an un-named friend, the narrator talks about his life: the death of his father, his quest to be a writer, his interesting and varied sex life, even bits of the novel he's working on.

In reading over the snippets of critic reviews from when the novel was first published in 1964, I can understand why, for them, it had such an impact, comparing it to "Tom Jones" and "Lady Chattereley's Lover." The narrator's exploits would have shocked society and effected the sexual revolution of the 1960's. His mother wants him to get a good job with a large company; he wants to be a writer and goes through a series bad, low-pay jobs instead. He is engaged to two women (one of whom he's lied to in order to get to bed with her). His circle of friends is populated with odd characters such as Jose who is infatuated with his cousin Rita, a nun at the local convent, and plans on marrying her. The narrator's openness about discussing sex is shocking for the time.

But, today, they have lost their shock value. We are so inundated with sexual weirdness and innuendos in the media that the narrator's exploits don't effect us in the same way. He's just a man who enjoys sex. That does not detract from the readability of the book. In fact, the novel which the narrator is writing -- concerning a man who loses his floggis and becomes invisible -- is one of the best things about this book and makes it worth reading. It is a good glimpse into sexuality and society of that time period.

            Book Description

"The difficulty for men or the impossibility for women of living up to patriarchal society's ideal order is the very stuff of melodrama," writes Robert Lang in this daring work on what the author sees as the central genre of American film. Lang contends that the true melodrama is essentially an Oedipal drama--a dramatization of the ways in which we are all formed within a matrix of familial imperatives. As he interprets them, these imperatives are often crippling reflections of patriarchy. Revealing how melodrama both submits to patriarchal ideology and confronts it, he believes that we can learn from it either how to be happier on its terms--which are the terms of life in Western society--or how to find our way out of the familial labyrinth.

Lang traces the development of melodrama in the first fifty years of the American cinema by offering detailed interpretations of Griffith's Way Down East, The Mother and the Law, and Broken Blossoms; Vidor's The Crowd, Stella Dallas, and Ruby Gentry; and Minnelli's Madame Bovary, Some Came Running, and Home from the Hill. Drawing on the insights of Irigaray, Kristeva, Deleuze and Guattari, Peter Brooks, and several contemporary film theorists, he focuses on the psychoanalytic aspects of the films to bring us new insights into the way we live our lives.

3 out of 5 stars The object of its own description........2002-10-29

Much work remains to be done to rescue from academic dismissal on the grounds that it is "melodramatic" not just a significant body of film but of literature and music as well. But the author of this book-polemic ignores the aesthetic while politicizing the theoretical. His representation of gender roles in the "world at large," moreover, is no less Manichean than the narrative worlds that are the subject of his discourse. Women suffer under "patriarchy" (mainly because Lacanian theorists and the likes of Catherine McKinnon say so), and the oppressive power relations evident in cinematic melodrama should make us want to address life's gravest problems, which can all ultimately be traced to the rule of patriarchy.

This book may prove useful to a few readers as an introduction to some major currents in 1980s French post-structuralist theory, but it falls far short in addressing the aesthetics or pleasures of the texts it examines let alone the challenging field of "music drama."

                Book Description

Erik Satie (1866-1925) came of age in the bohemian subculture of Montmartre, with its artists' cabarets and cafes-concerts. Yet apologists have all too often downplayed this background as potentially harmful to the reputation of a composer whom they regarded as the progenitor of modern French music. Whiting argues, on the contrary, that Satie's two decades in and around Montmartre decisively shaped his aesthetic priorities and compositional strategies. He gives the fullest account to date of Satie's professional activities as a popular musician, and of how he transferred the parodic techniques and musical idioms of cabaret entertainment to works for concert hall. From the esoteric Gymnopedies to the bizarre suites of the 1910s and avant-garde ballets of the 1920s (not to mention music journalism and playwriting), Satie's output may be daunting in its sheer diversity and heterodoxy; but his radical transvaluation of received artistic values makes far better sense once placed in the fascinating context of bohemian Montmartre.

I can't believe no one has already added a review of
this well-known and frequently referenced book. Perhaps
none was necessary as it is so widely known. The "Master
book" is often cited by other authors - Gardiner,
Berlekamp-Conway-Guy, etc. This book belongs in any
                      serious recreational mathematician's reference library
along with "Mathematical Recreations and Essays", "Winning
Ways", "Amusements in Mathematics". It is published by
Dover and is a high quality republication of a classic
at a very low price. Top value for money.

I have run a construction company for years and we're expanding. This is not an exhaustive text on construction management but instead an overview. I found it well written and organized. She gives insightful anecdotes in a way that illustrates the topic, but not so much that it is annoying like some books.

I was able to reinforce what I already knew and it helped me formulate a new business plan to accomodate our growth. It would be a good book for those who are interested in getting into the construction industry, but don't know at what capacity. It will give you a great idea on what career paths there are in the industry.

It is also filled with information on where to go after you read the book. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is because Sybex doesn't have any online information on the book anymore.

A must read for anyone in the design & construction industries, from student to seasoned professional.

If your a construction industry professional looking for specific information, this is not for you. The book seems more suited for a student and does not provide any technical support.

As an experienced construction manager/superintendent, I appreciate a single-source, fingertip reference book. Saves time ='s effort ='s money.

5 out of 5 stars good intro to construction.......2007-03-21

I like this book! It's a good introduction to the world of construction management. I would suggest this read for prospective students interested in a building construction, architecture, facility design, mechanical or civil engineering degree at the undergraduate or graduate degree level. A lot of the terminology in the book is what is really used in the construction industry. A scope of the industry is provided and the author covers important subjects such as estimating and scheduling - as well as project management and contract administration. She's very thorough and she doesn't pull any punches. She let's you know up front that construction management is a challenging and often difficult career to master. But the author also reminds the reader that it's a rewarding career since the buildings and stuctures created will usually be around long after people involved in it's construction live.
