The Yukon River is one of the most beautiful rivers in North America, especially the 650-mile portion from the headwater lakes in British Columbia down to Dawson City. lots of culture but lacking real practical advice.......2000-04-05

Having lived in Munich a friend showed me this booklet some days ago after he had bought it for an upcoming trip. This little booklet provides basic information on the city, the sights one has to visit and also has some useful maps. However, their recommendations for hotels, restaurants and whatnot maybe suitable for some visitors but they are far from being real good tips locals would provide you with.

This book is a humorous, fact-filled summary of knights, spies, and pirates. It includes cartoon illustrations of many of the facts and anecdotes described in the text. Many of the same facts and anecdotes, however, describe gory or grisly events (as an example, see the description of warfare and sieges during the Crusades) which makes it wholly inappropriate for junior teens. Older teens and adults should find it fun reading, as long as they're not too squeamish!

Great for Children of all ages.......2005-12-15

A wonderful book written with a Jr. High aged kid in mind. However, it is still a delight to read as an adult (I think I had more fun than a teenager would) It is written with a wit and humor that anyone can enjoy. This book gives historical information in a fun, "forget I'm learning" sort of way. I reccomend it for anyone and everyone.

Funny and yet highly informative.......2003-07-16

This fun little book is an unvarnished look at medieval knights for the young reader. (Yeah, that's not a contradiction.) Using hilarious illustrations, and irreverent text, the book explains who knights were, how they operated and what they did. It was written for the young reader, but information is not skimped in this book, which really tells the reader a lot! Overall, I found this to be a funny and yet highly informative book. I highly recommend it!

Written especially for the novice, this book shows how molecular dynamics simulations work and how to perform them.

Great introduction.......2005-04-27

If you're just getting started in molecular dynamics, especially if it's not really where you wanted to be in the first place, this may be the book for you.

The pace is brisk. Readers unsure of their calculus or Newtonian physics may struggle. The brief first chapter addresses the basics: what are the questions, which ones can computation address, and with what result. Chapters two to five develop successively more refined models up through Lennard-Jones soft-sphere models. That puts the reader about half-way through the book, to the point where it becomes less about physics and more about real chemistry. The next two chapters deal with the basics of thermodynamics and a bit on evaluating stability of the computed results.

The last third of the book is mostly appendices. The first three are decidedly of interest to the chemistry beginner, but the next dozen or so could have been dropped with no harm to the book's main content. "A Random-Number Generator" and "Conventions for Naming Variables in Fortran" are redundant and irrelevant (respectively) in most contemporary computing environments. If someone needs computing advice at that level, they're probably not ready for the load this book presents.

What's good is very good, though. The introduction material is sensible and adequately rigorous, with many and varied references at the end of each chapter. My interest in computational chemistry is mostly in the computation, not in the chemistry. Given that computational chemistry is a huge field, Haile has done a good job of keeping a sharp focus on one range of techniques and on a specific level of reader.

A great book for begginers........1999-05-17

As it's name implies this book covers only elementary methods, and this makes it extremely useful for beginners. Particularly higher undergraduate and graduate students with no previous knowledge of computer simulation methods. It is very kind with the reader, being very explicit on many topics other books take for granted. The sections on hard sphere simulation are particularly long compared with other books on the subject. The code included is very well organized and helpful, every book should have it documented this way!. If you program in fortran it's very useful, but if you program in C I recommend Rapaport's book instead, altough it's a little more difficult. I particularly liked the introduction about simulation and some phylosophical aspects of it.

Part 3 of a masterpiece.......2007-06-09

I love this story. I think it was worth the trouble to try to read these in French because there are subtle differences from the English that change the meaning. There were a lot of old-fashioned French words that I didn't know the meaning of. When I asked my French friends about them I learned a lot about French history.
