Many thanks.......2005-03-18
Being the author of this book, I should give it five stars. NOT?
I truely love the sport of sturgeon angling and wanted to share my knowledge. Most of all I had a need to share my hard earned knowledge of safety in boating and anchoring safely.
Retreiving the anchor being my main focus.

A good book for sturgeon fishermen.......2005-01-27
I bought this book for my husband who is an avid sturgeon fisherman, not expecting there to be any new information in it that he didn't know about. He loved it! He said that there are many things in the book that have since helped him to catch a big one. The part he liked most was the military explanation of anchoring and the tides description. Go buy this one if you want to bring home a sturgeon.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY THATS FOR SURE!.......2003-12-23
Got the book, read it! Surely not worth its price! I own a lot of fish and fishing books so I would have to say, this book isnt worth its cost! Most of the information wasn't as detail and I found better information from just searching websites on the net.

If your heart beats to a rock-and-roll tempo, Rock & Roll Traveler USA is the ultimate road-trip reference for worshipping at the shrines of the great. See the venue where Bruce Springsteen launched his Born in the U.S.A. tour, the house where Chuck Berry was born, the theater where Jimi Hendrix won Amateur Night in the sixties, and the spot where Janis Joplin hit Jim Morrison over the head with a Southern Comfort bottle. Also included are record stores across the U.S., funky cafés, details on momentous gigs, and rock landmarks from New York to Los Angeles and from Robert Johnson's Mississippi Delta to Kurt Cobain's Seattle.
Book Description
America Through the Eyes of a Rock and Roll Traveler
America Through the Eyes of a Rock and Roll Traveler
When you think of New York City, do you imagine a great view from the Empire State Building -- or late nights at CBGBs?
In L.A., do you want to tour the Queen Mary -- or visit the landmark where Janis Joplin hit Jim Morrison over the head with a bottle of Southern Comfort?
Would you rather go to New Orleans to see Jackson Square -- or catch B.B. King during Jazz Fest?
Get Ready for the Ultimate Road Trip!
Rock & Roll Traveler USA is the ultimate road-trip reference. Riveting, entertaining, and packed with never-before-seen photographs, this guide covers the nation's famous (and not-so-famous) rock landmarks, plus all the hot spots in U.S. music today. From New York to L.A., from Robert Johnson's Mississippi Delta to Kurt Cobain's Seattle, discover an American landscape you'll find nowhere else.
Momentous Gigs The Beatles invade America, Elvis goes Vegas, the Band has a last waltz, the Sex Pistols storm the South.
Pop Shrines The Chelsea Hotel, Whisky A Go Go, Threadgill's, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Motown, and -- the mother ship -- Graceland.
Unruly Rockers Where Led Zeppelin, Jim Morrison, the Who, and other big stars of bad behavior lived fast, died young, and let it all hang out.
Sound Suppliers Record Stores (new, used, and vinyl), recording studios, and the best local clubs for catching a pop revolution in progress.
Funky Kitchens Athens' Weaver D's (where soul food is "automatic for the people"), Tupelo's Elvis-inspired McDonald's, Barney's Beanery in L.A., and other eats with ambience.
Great Photos One-of-a-kind pictures shot by local photographers: the first ever Foo Fighters gig (at Portland's Satyricon), the Beastie Boys playing b-ball with the Knicks, Fugazi jamming at the Washington Monument, and more.

A great guide, from Presley to punk to Pavement.......2000-08-19
For rock-and-roll fans, this book is long overdue. Whether you're planning a road trip to Graceland or just want to know where to find a hole-in-the-wall record store on your next vacation, this book is for you. Most travel guides focus on families and seniors, but this book is definitely written with a younger, hipper sensibility. Region by region and state by state, you'll find most everything you'd want to know about a city's rock-n-roll shrines and out-of-the-way spots that most guides (including Fodor's) usually leave out.

Book Description
There have always been networks in the context of educational research as well as particular technologies. Yet recent developments in ICT have put their mark on contemporary education and on educational research and more in general on knowledge and understanding. Does the ‘network society’ and its supporting technologies constitute a thoroughly radical innovation in social practice? Does information technology poison the minds of the younger generation? Do educational institutions have to be transformed in order to effectively serve the needs of the twenty-first century? And what are the implications of these changes for educational research and for researchers themselves?
In this book distinguished philosophers and historians of education focus on the way ‘networks’ and ‘technologies’ characterize education and educational research nowadays. Attention is paid for instance to online networks as ‘spaces’ and ‘places’ that are changing research practices and relations, to the involvement of the researcher in the moral debate, but also to particular educational technologies such as the use of experts’ advice concerning Internet use, the American True Love Waits movement and the practice of punishment in schools.
"This groundbreaking book records the intellectual struggles of a diverse and distinguished group of scholars as they come to grips with the changes in knowledge production, and modes of research communication, engendered by contemporary information and communications technology. The book performs a major service in placing the phenomenon of networks - their potentialities and also their dangers - squarely on our intellectual agenda."
D.C. Phillips, Professor Emeritus of Education and Philosophy, Stanford University
"In this book, a rich array of international scholars in the philosophy and history of education address a pressing concern in contemporary educational research and educational practice: the impact of information technology and networks. The authors are strikingly successful, both in explicating the effects of these changes on both domains and in subverting these effects by pointing out the ironies and continuities lodged beneath technology's veneer of utility and novelty."
David F. Labaree, Professor of Education, Stanford University
This publication is realized by the Research Community (FWO-Vlaanderen / Research Foundation Flanders, Belgium) Philosophy and History of the Discipline of Education: Evaluation and Evolution of the Criteria for Educational Research. Also realized by the Research Community is Educational Research: Why "What Works" Doesn’t Work, which appeared in 2006.

This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Second Language Writing, published by Elsevier in . The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This article reports on how Quebec Francophone high school students, enrolled in a program which featured an environment rich in information and communication technologies (ICTs), appropriated the writing process over a four-year period (Grades 7-10) in the context of their ESL language arts courses. Data for the study were obtained using qualitative research methods, including in-class observation (field notes), videotaping, interviews, and collection of documents. Discussion of the issue of appropriation is framed in relation to sociocultural theory, in particular Engestrom's [Engestrom, Y. (1991). Non scolae sed vitae discimus: Toward overcoming the encapsulation of school learning. Learning and Instruction, 1, 243-259] version of activity theory and Tharp's [Tharp, R. (1993). Institutional & social context of educational practice and reform. In E. Forman, N. Minick, C. A. Stone, & M. S. Forman (Eds.), Contexts for learning: Sociocultural dynamics in children's development (pp. 269-282). New York: Oxford University Press] contention as to the relationship between innovative educational practice and nested activity settings. Analysis of the way activities were structured over the four-year period, especially in regard to the role of scaffolding, serves to foreground the historically transformative nature of the learning process. As part of this analysis, the Grade 10 ''History of Theatre'' web site project is presented as a ''telling case'' [Mitchell, J.C. (1984). Case studies. In R.F. Ellen (Ed.), Ethnographic research: A guide to general conduct (pp. 237-241). San Diego, CA: Academic Press; Putney, L. G., Green, J., Dixon, C., Duran, R., & Yeager, B. (2000). Consequential progressions: Exploring collective-individual development in a bilingual classroom. In C. D. Lee & P. Smagorinsky (Eds.), Vygotskian perspectives on literacy research: Constructing meaning through collaborative inquiry (pp. 86-126). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press] to demonstrate how by this point enacting the writing process in an ICT-rich environment had become a highly self-regulated, routine cultural practice. Further evidence of appropriation is provided by the fact that, by Grade 10, students had begun on their own to transfer the use of the writing process to the completion of assignments in other school subjects, thus suggesting that this cultural tool had come to be valued as a means of helping them achieve the personal goal of producing a better written product and not merely fulfill a course requirement. The teacher's proleptic stance in terms of the way he viewed this developmental process is also discussed.

Description:
Increasingly, information and communication technology (ICT) is being used as a development tool. For example, a recent innovative experiment by the FIDAMERICA development cybernetwork (sponsored by IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development) in Latin America used an electronic network to collect, post and discuss rural women's life histories, intending to support gender mainstreaming in IFAD projects. However, cybernetworking processes can also reflect contradictory agendas and power relations that ultimately make them a site of contestation. In the FIDAMERICA case, the authors did not participate in the electronic conference, nor were there any subsequent efforts to connect them or to develop this process further. In this paper, I argue that the analysis of increasingly complex cybernetworked development efforts must incorporate a correspondingly sophisticated technique that can uncover the nuanced relations of transnational cyber communication; and I propose that an actor-network approach should be investigated as an analytical framework in these cases. I then apply this approach to the case study, using field research conducted with the participants of the FIDAMERICA electronic life history project in Central America. I conclude that an actor-network approach is a fruitful means by which these processes can be both understood and improved.

Book Description
This study guide is designed to prepare you to take the Natural Science CLEP examination. Everything you need is contained in this book. It has lesson plans, exercises and sample tests. Give yourself your best chance to pass the test and get credit when you go to college. This book is published by the company with over 30 years experience with the CLEP program.
Customer Reviews:
it's ok...............2002-03-28
i wouldn't be able to pass by using this book alone. i used the plato computer programs at the navy college, and a book which specifies in all the sciences. when my time was up, i had about 30 blanks. amazingly, i substantially passed w/ a 490. w/ the subject still fresh in my brain, i took the biology clep exam 4 days later, again scoring substantially high w/ a 51. it definitely helps to keep answers blank if you're not sure. i suggest looking at the outlines for both exams and getting your study material from there.
Disappointed.......2001-09-30
The practice exam was Ok but the text did not help answer the questions that were on the actual exam. I had to buy another book to find out about the more difficult questions. The illustrations were vague and their was minimal preparatory value.
Pathetic.......2001-02-18
I passed the test by a decent margin, no thanks to this book. I read through the book several times, took the practice questions and exams, and when I felt I knew the material well enough I took the CLEP. I was startled at how much material there was in the CLEP that was not even touched upon by the book. I was able to answer a handful of questions correctly because of the book, but the rest I had to rely on common sense and what I remember from high school science classes.
If you do get this book anyway (the other people who have reviewed the book seemed to have liked it), make sure you read EVERYTHING -- the practice tests contain material not covered in the rest of the book so every little bit helps. My kid can draw better than the artists who illustrated the book, so just ignore them. I don't remember a single instance where I needed to recall one of the illustrations.
Passed the test utilizing only this book for review.......2000-09-05
As the test is usually 'graded' on a Pass/Fail basis I can be confident giving a thumbs up for the book. Although I was not terribly confident I had passed the test (in fact I was somewhat skeptical) I did ultimately pass the test by a comfortable margin. I did leave approximately 20 to 25% of the questions blank. It is best, if you cannot rule out some of the answers, to leave the answer sheet blank as wrong answers are held against you in the scoring logic.
Note: One other thing that I believe is valuable is to key in on at least the answers you can rule out (I judiciosly mark the test booklet as this is allowed - unlike Dantes tests) thereby giving you a much better chance at 'quessing' the right answer
CLEP exam for the Natural Sciences.......2000-05-18
I found the test taking tips included very helpful. It prepared me very well for the actual exam. The content info. was moderately helpful. I did find the sample exams did not apply to the material covered in the reading section but ultimately this did help cover a broader area of study. There were actually areas on the exam not covered in the study guide as well as areas that were in fact on the exam.
Customer Reviews:
You need this, big time!!!.......2003-02-09
I took the CLEP for Biology 2 days ago and passed. I rule! This book helped me out a LOT. This is because the test is much more detailed than I expected. However, I made a 61 on the CLEP, and the day before got 26 of 30 right on a Rudman practice test, so don't get too cocky. Also, buy, or get from the library, a Biology text book and learn the sections that the CLEP prep book tells you you need. I have no interest in Biology, and even less of a background, but made a great score with the help of this book!
It Definitely Helped A Lot!.......2002-08-24
I would say this book was a VERY important factor in helping me pass the Bio Clep test. I took all my notes from the contents in all the different areas of study for the subject. I took the practice tests and when I got the questions wrong (and I started out getting almost all of them wrong) if I couldn't find the answer within this book, I checked one of two other resources: A book called "REA's Problem Solvers" in Biology, (ISBN: 0878915141) and I frequently referred to and reviewed an Online Biology Book at:
http://www.emc.maricopa.edu/faculty/farabee/BIOBK/BioBookTOC.html
These three things plus the grace of God are what took me from near total ignorance on the topic, to passing the Bio Clep test by 7 points. I wish you the same!
Not Complete Preparation- MUST use college book FIRST.......2002-07-11
The practice tests are great, but the book does not cover concepts like some CLEP books do. You MUST study a college biology textbook in order to pass this. This is ONLY a review, not a complete preparation text. Once you have studied- then this is good to practice taking the test.
Biology review.......2001-03-08
The Biology CLEP study guide is a great way to prepare for the CLEP test. The review questions cover a broad base of knowledge, and a summary of basic biology facts is available at the end of the book. I would highly recommend this for someone studying for the General Biology CLEP test.

Book Description
Topics in Random Polynomials presents a rigorous and comprehensive treatment of the mathematical behavior of different types of random polynomials. These polynomials-the subject of extensive recent research-have many applications in physics, economics, and statistics. The main results are presented in such a fashion that they can be understood and used by readers whose knowledge of probability incorporates little more than basic probability theory and stochastic processes.
Book Description
Founded by Mani (c. AD 216-276), a Syrian visionary of Judaeo-Christian ancestry from Persian Mesopotamia, Manichaeism spread rapidly into the Roman Empire in the third and fourth centuries AD and became one of the most persecuted heresies under Christian Roman emperors. This collection of sources draws from material mostly unknown to English-speaking scholars and students. The religion established missionary cells in Syria, Egypt, North Africa and Rome and included Augustine of Hippo as the most famous of its converts.
Customer Reviews:
Perfect!.......2005-07-12
There are 5 things in particular that I admire about this work:
(1) It has a superb introduction, which details historical, mythological, and various contextual aspects of Mani and his followers (it is nearly 50 pages).
(2) It is splendidly organized. Just check out the table of contents yourself.
(3) This book has a nice format. While the second point pertains to topical organization, this regards the aesthetic aspects of the work. In other words, it's a joy to read because...well, it's easy on the eyes.
(4) It's comprehensive. Not necessarily in length, although that is true, too. What I mean here is that it covers a lot without getting into pedantic concerns.
(5) There is a very helpful dictionary of mythico-theological terms near the bibliography, which I referred to repeatedly in my reading (and still do). If you keep getting confused over who the Maiden of Light is, the Five Sons of the Living Spirit, or the Third Ambassador, don't fret.
In conclusion, two renowned Manichaean scholars in the world today have provided an invaluable compass to steer one's way through the maze of Manichaean literature and scholarship. Recommended to be read with Lieu's 'Manichaeism in the Later Roman Empire and Medieval China' (another invaluable work).
