My realization of the progression in journalism came after I read the book Digital Journalism: Emerging Media and the Changing Horizons of Journalism, edited by Kevin Kawamoto. This book is an informational collection of essays that defines digital journalism. Each essay, written by various professionals in the field of digital journalism, provides detailed information as well as real life experiences to discuss the future of journalism. Editor Kevin Kawamoto provides a detailed discussion of where digital journalism is going, what it is, and why it is important in present day society. Each chapter presents a different topic from the history of digital journalism to an actual look at the experiences of a photojournalist. The information is presented in an outline format that makes it easy to follow the content in the chapter. The descriptive diction and details used made me feel like I was actually on an internship and I did not even have to leave my desk. As a journalism student at Oklahoma State University, Kevin Kawamoto's book Digital Journalism: Emerging Media and the Changing Horizons of Journalism helped me identify what digital journalism was and how it is applied in specific careers. After reading many other books and articles on this subject this one is by far the best one for students.

'Changing Horizons' - the life story of Helge Amundsen - reads like a 'ripping yarn' which follows the author from his boyhood, day dreaming in the Artic Circle town of Hammerfest, through to his life as a sailor before and during the Second World War. It is a tale full of recollections of a rumbustuous, often violent lifestyle. On leaving Europe the author sailed to the Caribbean, then through the Panama Canal to San Francisco, and, for a while, he chanced life as a hobo. Soon back at sea, he sailed to South America, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Cape Town, ending up in Dakar when his ship was confined to port at the outbreak of the Second World War. He managed to escape, but was recaptured by the French, before successfully escaping a second time. Having retrained as a Radio Officer Helge Amundsen took part in the 'Battle of the Atlantic'. He survived this only to contract tuberculosis and it was during this time that he discovered a passion for books and literature. After the war he returned to his homeland, Norway, where he became a successful magazine photo journalist and also worked in television. He lived with the Lapps for a time, making several documentary programmes about their way of life. A successful business life has enabled him to spend a good part of his time sailing for pleasure in the Mediterranean.

This book reviews the current state of the theory of pattern formation by a liquid-solid interface during crystal growth. It gives a pedagogical introduction to the subject, including experimental results, mathematical modeling and linear stability analysis. After highlighting the success of the theory in resolving the selection problem of dendritic growth, various new directions of research are presented in which progress has been made recently. These are the formation of nondendritic seaweed-like structures, growth of lamellar eutectics and rapid solidification. The interplay between analytic methods on the one hand (scaling arguments, asymptotic analysis, similarity equation, Sivashinsky singular expansion) and numerical calculations on the other (Newton method, dynamical schemes) is emphasized.
