Book Description
Walter Byers, who served as NCAA executive director from 1951 to 1987, was charged with the dual mission of keeping intercollegiate sports clean while generating millions of dollars each year as income for the colleges. Here Byers exposes, as only he can, the history and present-day state of college athletics: monetary gifts, questionable academic standards, advertising endorsements, legal battles, and the political manipulation of college presidents.
Byers believes that modern-day college sports are no longer a student activity: they are a high-dollar commercial enter-prise, and college athletes should have the same access to the free market as their coaches and colleges. He favors no one as he cites individual cases of corruption in NCAA history. From Byers' first enforcement case, against the University of Kentucky in 1952, to the NCAA's 1987 "death penalty" levied against Southern Methodist University of Dallas, he shows the change in the athletic environment from simple rules and personally responsible officials to convoluted, cyclopedic regulations with high-priced legal firms defending college violators against a limited NCAA enforcement system. This book is a must for anyone involved in college sports--athletes, coaches, fans, college faculty, and administrators.
"There has been no other executive in the history of professional, college, or amateur sports who has had such an impact in his area." --Keith Jackson, ABC Sports
"Walter Byers has done more to shape intercollegiate athletics that any single person in history. He brought a combination of leadership, insight, and integrity to intercollegiate athletics that we will never again see equaled." --Bob Knight, Head Basketball Coach, Indiana University
As NCAA executive director, Byers started the an enforcement program, pioneered a national academic rule for athletes, and signed more than fifty television contracts with ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, and Turner Broadcasting. He oversaw the growth of the NCAA basketball tournament to one that, in 1988, grossed $68.2 million. As the one person who has been inside college athletics for forty years, Walter Byers is uniquely qualified to tell the story of the NCAA and today's exploitation of college athletes.

Great maps, good descriptions.......1999-11-06
This book covers every species of fern (and clubmoss and horsetail, that sort of thing) reported in New Jersey, with excellent maps showing exactly where. It also includes good pictures, brief descriptions of each species, range and habitat and lots of interesting comments. Great for finding out what might be in a given area, not as good for identifying a specific sample. Still, I really enjoyed it.

Shopping, hotels, restaurants, what to see and do ? a complete guidebook for the visitor.
Customer Reviews:
Easy to use and fun! A very good guide!.......2001-02-05
We had a wonderful vacation usiing this guide book. Unlike another one that starts with "F", the Alive guide is not full of upfront stuff that nobody reads. It gets right to the point in telling what hotels have to offer, the best places to eat (it arranges them by cuisine and gives sample dishes) and devotes many pages to shopping -- in the malls as well as downtown. We got some good bargains as a result. We'll go back again, maybe this time to Cozumel or some of the other places this guide has discovered.
There has got to be better books out there.......2000-10-22
While the theory behind a personalize book by a frequent visitor to Conzumel and Cancun is appealing, this book falls short (at least in its Cancun portion). We recently visited Cancun and found this book to be significantly lacking in detail and many of their comments, concerning resturants and activities, we strongly disagreed with. Stick with a Fodor's book!
This book delivers what is promises.......2000-01-28
(From Planeta.com Journal) This is a recommended title, by the Conords whose Adventure Guide to the Yucatan is a favorite. Descriptions are lively and the info first-rate.
Most in-depth, intelligent and helpful guide to Cancun.......1999-11-21
What a joy after reading some of the other guides to Cancun! This book covers almost everything, and is obviously written by someone with an intimate familiarity with the region. It offers helpful hints on each page, rather than just pointing out lists of places to visit (although it does this also). The Mexican to U.S. clothing size conversion chart is particularly helpful. The book dedicates 12 pages to shopping in Cancun, a topic restricted to 3/4 page in the other guidebook I purchased at the same time (and sent back). The coverage of places to stay, places to eat, and what to do is very objective and frank, unlike some of the guides which seem to be produced by the local chamber of commerce. As a lover of travel (and travel guides), I can't say enough about this one - it's as good a guide to a city as I have read.
A Great Guidebook!.......1999-10-07
I couldn't have asked for a more reliable guide to the hotels, restaurants, and sights in Cancun. The information helped make our vacation the best we've ever had -- and saved us money too. Next year, we're taking this book and trying Cozumel!

Book Description
Cancún is blessed with over 240 days of sunshine per year. Its glorious white beaches are picture-perfect. Isla Mujeres, a tiny offshore island like others found in the Caribbean, shares the same enviable climate, but offers a totally different vacation experience, with little of the hustle and bustle of Cancún. This guidebook gives you the low-down on where to go and what to do, no matter what your budget or lifestyle.

Plan Your Trip With This Book.......2005-01-09
CANCUN, COZUMEL, AND THE RIVIERA MAYA ALIVE! from Hunter Publishing Travel Guides, is a wonderfully readable, in-depth guide to everything you could ever want to know about this glorious Gulf Coast area of Mexico's "hitch-hiker thumb." Bruce and June Conord, who have traveled the world, chose this location for all their free time to relax, and their enthusiasm makes readers eager to go there also. The guide is organized in an easy to follow way, arranged by geography and popularity. Their own evaluations of hotels, restaurants, and attractions are listed up-front. I was particularly impressed that they flatly refuse to mention those places which have raped the environment. The tips and warnings in the book are worth the reading for any Mexican traveler, gleaned from their years of experience. History, conversion charts, temperature and climate guides, and shopping hints are all readably presented and easy to grasp at a glance. We recommend this book for anyone dreaming of the sun and surf! Plan your trip with it.
A must have guide!!!.......2004-05-21
If you read only one guide book this summer this should be the one!!! Unlike one of the other reviewers I found this book to be a great source of information. As I fumbled around the Yucatan this was a fantastic wealth of information. Yes it seems like the authors know people as you read the book, only making it more believable that they continue to visit the same establishments and "practice what they preach". To the unhappy traveler I offer a sympathetic ear and like all reviews take his / her opinion with a grain of salt! I prefer mine with tequila ... but others seem to have them in their tears. Have fun and enjoy!!!!
The authors have friends here!!.......2004-04-09
Even though this book has SOMEWHAT helped me with my travel to the Yucatan (ummmm... probably because it was the ONLY book I brought?? Stupid Me!!), I was very disturbed with some of the restaurant choices. "Tell the owners, "so-and-so" that Bruce and June says HELLO and that we sent you!!" Auuuuugh!!
Can we say that they probably get free food for mentioning their names?
I was also quite disturbed how they described the airport's bus stop to CanCun. There are Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 (totally separated). They said that if you are on a chartered flight, you're at the "main terminal and the bus stop is across the street from it". Well, I was on a Chartered flight and flew into Terminal One. Which one is MAIN? 1 or 2?? Assuming 1 is ALWAYS MAIN, I winded up walking more or less of a mile in the 90 degree heat to Terminal 2 to get to the bus stop. SCARY!!!
I backpacked there and was on a budget and they did not list not even 1/4 of the budget hotels. When I stayed @ a hostel, I browsed through a bunkmate's Lonely Planet book and it had WAY MORE INFORMATION than this book!!
This book may seem to be "somewhat big", but the fonts are large... thus taking up more space. I did find some wrong information and the book says to "Please e-mail them."
WHAT?? E-MAIL THEM FOR THE RIGHT INFORMATION SO THEY CAN PROFIT FROM A MORE UPDATED EDITION?? Ripley's!!!
Lonely Planet has the same info that they have... PLUS MORE! This book is very VAGUE for anyone.
Gets right to the point.......2002-06-06

Book Description
Research of the past ten years has made it increasingly clear that domestic animals and wild animals differ in their nutritional requirements. Nutritional management, beneficial to domestic animals, may actually be life-threatening to wild ones. This new edition of
Wildlife Feeding and Nutrition has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent insights, especially with regard to wildlife nutrition essential to successful management either in the wild or in captivity.
Zoological garden and laboratory personnel, wildlife biologists, ecologists, animal nutritionists, and veterinarians will benefit from this new edition.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent reference.......2000-06-26
Robbins' "Wildlife Feeding and Nutrition" is an excellent synthesis of ecological physiology as typically practiced by wildlife management professionals. As suggested by the title, the emphasis is on forage, nutrient requirements, energy demands, and production.
Robbins tackles the subject from a physiological, rather than strictly ecological, standpoint. Not surprisingly, ungulates (both wild and domestic) provide most of the resources, although Robbins takes pains to make his discussions as general as possible.
"Wildlife Feeding and Nutrition" is positively packed with literature, charts, figures, tables, and even a few photographs.
This is not a how-to manual for veterinarians and zookeepers, but instead a synthesis of physiological concepts.
All together, a well-written reference. I'm looking forward to the third edition -William Adair, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Utah State University

This digital document is a journal article from Chemical Engineering Journal, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This serialized paper, going on from an IMRET 6 paper [1], describes from a technical point of view further application progress of microreaction technology (MRT) in the field of azo-chemistry at Clariant. Reproducibility of MRT-lab data in the MRT-pilot plant, which includes a numbering-up concept, was confirmed for a second MRT-pigment. Screening tests of commercially available microdevices disclose a need of further improvement of them. Additionally, first experimental data of an on-line process-control prove that a so-called multi-scale approach [2], which means integration of microdevices in conventional equipment, is a promising and successful way for a broader application of MRT in industrial applications.

Book Description
The expertise of a professional mathmatician and a theoretical engineer provides a fresh perspective of stability and stable oscillations. The current state of affairs in stability theory, absolute stability of control systems, and stable oscillations of both periodic and almost periodic discrete systems is presented, including many applications in engineering such as stability of digital filters, digitally controlled thermal processes, neurodynamics, and chemical kinetics. This book will be an invaluable reference source for those whose work is in the area of discrete dynamical systems, difference equations, and control theory or applied areas that use discrete time models.
