Customer Reviews:
Cool sixth book!.......2007-07-25
Cecily Von Ziegesar really keeps her readers interested in the sixth book in her bestselling series Gossip Girl. In this book, college acceptance letters and being sent out, and things turn out the opposite of what everyone expected. Blair was waitlisted at Yale, and only accepted at Georgetown. Serena and Nate both make it into all of their choices, including Harvard and Yale. Blair gets mad at them for this because she has better grades, etc. Blair's mother has her baby girl, named Yale. Dan practically gets into all of his college choices to, but in the end he probably will choose NYU, because Vanessa is going there, and they both moved in. Serena helps Jenny get a modeling job, with turns out to spread lots of gossip. And Vanessa throws a birthday party, which turns into a diaster. Cecily did a great job, I only wished that Blair got into Yale.

i think it' s a great book, i recomend for other people!!!
Blah!!!.......2006-09-29
You're the one that I want, by Cecily von Ziegesar, is about preppy, rich kids who get to do whatever they want. They are very high class and are always talking about someone else. In this book, they are waiting for their college acceptance letters to come back and see which colleges they were accepted to. They are always complaining about something. They buy whatever they want and are always worried about what others will think of them. They try and find comfort in objects and or boys to calm their nerves while waiting for the letters. They won't be happy until they get their letters and get into all of the colleges that they applied to. Although this book is about a lot of wealthy and some what snobby teenagers, I really enjoy reading it. It's very interesting and funny to read. I think that some of the situations that they go through can relate to what I go through. They're teens in this book and regardless of how rich or poor you are, all teens go through some of the same situations. It's just funny to see how they would handle the different situations thrown at them. I think ultimately it's a good book because you can escape from reality while you're reading it. I can imagine the stress that they're going through while waiting for their letters so it's just interesting to read about it. It's funny because you don't think these types of things can actually take place so I enjoyed reading it. I've actually read a lot of the novels from the Gossip Girl series and they're all interesting, dramatic, and fun to read as well as hard to put down.

Book Description
Statistics: Concepts and Applications is an introductory textbook in statistics and probability intended principally for students in the behavioral and natural sciences who have completed a course in college-level algebra. The authors' aim is to bring mathematical, theoretical, and conceptual integrity to a body of topics standardly covered in a statistics course at this level. The authors employ an informal, conversational prose that delivers conceptual richness and mathematical rigor in an engaging way that makes statistical and mathematical principles accessible to students with limited mathematical preparation. Each topic is typically introduced in the context of lively narrative scenarios ranging from formal experimental research (e.g., research in animal intelligence) to scientific issues of broad popular appeal (e.g., the relationship of Neanderthals to modern humans). A single scenario is developed and elaborated throughout a chapter or topical section to provide a framework for concepts and principles, which are buttressed by worked-through examples and reinforced by both drill exercises and content problems drawn from a wide variety of areas, ranging from anthropology to zoology. The exercises require only a basic hand-held calculator to solve. Statistics: Concepts and Applications is supported by a package of ancillary materials: There is an instructor's manual (with full solutions to exercises rather than just answers) that is available complimentary to adopting professors. There is also a remarkably powerful and easy-to-use DOS-compatible computer software package (ASP) and workbook for the student.
Customer Reviews:
why aren't there more books like this one?.......2003-11-02
This is one of the best introductory stats books I've seen. The authors are serious and passionate about statistics, and are indeed good writers. There is no fluff and unenecessary color photos (that many current texts are full of) - just serious college algebra-based statistics. Theoretical derivations can easily be omitted by those who don't need them. All the major topics are here. By the way, the book is available from the Cambridge University Press web site; I don't know why amazon.com does not keep it in stok.
A readable intro to Statistics.......2001-06-25
I liked this better than "Elementary Statistics" by Triola or "Elementary Statistics" by Bluman. Those two have more human interest sidebars, more color, and more fluff. They also require additional software and study guides to get the best from the book.
Frank and Althoen are all business and their business is to get you to the point that you can do statistics and understand it. The authors do a nice job of presenting a mathematic subject. There are lots of examples, clearly worked out. The examples and student problems are with small enough data sets that you can work through them easily without getting lost in calculations.
This book is 850 pages. black and white. self contained. no photos, no side bars, and just enough graphs and charts. It's full of text that is well crafted and gently pulls you along through a lot of statistical "Concepts and Applications".
This book assumes you know algebra but not calculus.

Book Description
Advanced Topics in Control Systems Theory contains selected contributions written by lecturers at the second (annual) Formation d’Automatique de Paris (FAP) (Graduate Control School in Paris). It is addressed to graduate students and researchers in control theory with topics touching on a variety of areas of interest to the control community such as cascaded systems, flatness, optimal control, and Hamiltonian and infinite-dimensional systems. The reader is provided with a well-integrated synthesis of the latest thinking in these subjects without the need for an exhaustive literature review. The internationally known contributors to this volume represent many of the most reputable control centers in Europe.
Advanced Topics in Control Systems Theory can be used to support either a one-term general advanced course on nonlinear control theory, devoting a few lectures to each chapter, or for more focused and intensive courses at graduate level. The book’s concise but pedagogical manner will give an ideal start to researchers wishing to broaden their knowledge in aspects of modern control theory outside their own expertise.
