Book Description
Book Forward by Actor, Tom Arnold
For eight agonizing years, Rae and her two sisters endured unspeakable abuse which haunted their identity by sealing the truth. 15 years later, when Rae's daughter was sexually abused by her Godfather, Rae and her two sisters had to confront their own torturous past while Rae was fueding with family and friends who blatantly defended the molester. Finally Rae's anger festered too long and anyone who stood in her way for her fight for justice on behalf of her daughter Desiray, was excluded from their lives so she could teach her little girl how to become a survivor.
Then in 1992 little Desiray captured the hearts of survivors across the world when she became the first minor in the nation to go public, using her real name and face for the media. Brought camera's into the courtroom during the sentencing and then with the help of Attorney Gloria Allred won a unprecedented amount of over 2 Million Dollars against her attacker, as seen on 20/20. Book includes photo's and personal letters from children who wrote to Desiray Bartak about their own abuse.

Help yourself and those you love. Buy Inborn Justice!.......2005-03-27
My uncle came to my home last week. He brought me an newspaper article about Rae and Desiray in the Palmdale's Antelope Valley Press. The first thing I noticed was Rae's smile, then the picture and story of the Organization Rae and Desiray are opening here in the near future.
I am a mother of a child who must face her perp in court. I looked everywhere for this book and my uncle was able to track a used on down for me.
My daughter is now 14. She has nightmares, panic attacks and is terrified to testify. Even though their book is graghic (as I read and cried for hours) I gave it to my daughter to read.
I had heard and seen their case years past, but had no idea they were still advocating. Although this book is shattering, shocking and at ttimes you don't want to read it, then you cannot stop reading it because of the way Rae wrote her past. She endured abuse, yes, but in her words "I wake everyday and I make sure I am not Zola." Her struggles to raise her children as a young single mom and the strength of her father, who helped not only Rae, but the family when their case became national.
I was so impressed that Rae wrote this book before someone else did and continue to write and advocate with her daughter. Desiray, my lord, what a triumph! Both traveled for years to pass bills, won awards world wide for thier work and still had to go to court and face the man who hurt this young child.
Last night my daughter finished the book. She asked me two things when she woke up this morning.
"Can I call Desiray? When is my court date and how can I work with them?"
The samething happened me me, Rae (if you read these), the night she read your book, you gave me my daughter back. With tears of joy, i say this to each and every victim, past, present and sadly the future to come, buy Inborn Justice, your life will change. This is the most powerful and moving book I have ever read. May god watch over all the sweet victims and find this book to their door-step. Please, please, please, don't pass up the oppertunity to survive and have a move on. Rae and Desiray did, my daughter and I am now.
My sister left her abuser because of Inborn Justice.......2003-12-13
How many woman read a book and leave their partners when they feel they have no where to go? One victim that I know of personally and could be millions if they read Inborn Justice. Our family has been trying to help my sister who was a victim of domestic violence. The children endured the sounds and watched the horror of DV just like Rae and her two sisters in the non fiction book that has brought our family peace for the holiday in twelve-years. I would leave pamphlets, numbers and mail her letters (my sister) regarding domestic violence in hopes she would leave her partner. The family was so tired of the many times she hid from us until her battered body with bruises and cuts faded to scars. Then one day while I was at work, a frantic call from my sister came in. My co-worker over heard my conversation and the next day she brought me her copy of Inbor Justice that she purchased at amazon.com Before I read the book, I read the reviews. I was overwhelmed I had not heard of this case and was eager to read it the following weekend. I began Inborn Justice that evening (could not wait until Saturday) and could not put it down. I was mesmorized by Rae's words and how she described her childhood of abuse. How Rae wrote her inner childs pain, suffering and fear was gripping and hypnotic. Poetically perfect for anyone interested in reading the true life account of a child who was not just a victim, but was a part of a deep seed cover up. From her thoughts of suicide at 9 to her attempted suicide at 11 Rae did not want to die due to depression, she could not handle he world she had to live in. Abuse. Molestation. Watching her mother allow her step-father abuse her. Her sisters torture and then turn a blinds eye when he beat and battered her mother. I related to Rae line by line as I watched my family endure the same abuse. I cried for the first time for my sister and her children. I was angry at her for allowing her children to possibly walk the path of Rae and her daughter Desiray, another review of it's own, is the product of a mothers heart. A mothers true love. A mother who did not become a statistic. A mother that embraced instead of rejected. Rae took the chance by exposing her life after Desiray, 12, went public for print and media when she was molested by her God Father. Desiray would not have been embraced if Rae had not stood strong and survived the years of abuse and a witness to the DV of her mother. I have to also praise the fact that Rae did not allow Desiray become another national headline case to use for attention. This young woman who agreed, after months of saying no to Desiray. After she contacted Attorney Gloria Allred to have her day in court and face her perpetrator, on her own, Rae finally agreed that Desiray was much stronger than she was at her age and knew Desiray had to use whatever tool she needd to fight back and not be a victim as she has, at the same age. Mother and daughter are not the typical Talk Show Tale of abuse. Inborn Justice is a must read for anyone who wants to see the real deal of abuse and DV. They held nothing back and I have read hundreds of books regarding this subject to help my sister gain the power to leave on her own. I gave her the book the next day. She went to a theater with a small light so she would not endure more abuse when she got home. She read the book through 3 movies and called the family to pick up her belongings with the police and her children at school. Thank you Rae and Desiray. You said Gloria Allred gave you your little girl back. Our family thanks you for giving us our family back. It had been almost a year since Inborn Justice came into our lives and changed what we felt was the impossible task of seeing our family together on holidays. If you do not know what to buy your friend, family or someone you know who needs inspiration and help due to abuse, buy Inborn Justice. Who cares what shape the book is in. Old or new you will walk away with the courage to stand on your own and make a difference in your life and the life of your children. Thank you Amazon for carrying this book and selling new and used copies of Inborn Justice. I would only hope that this book could be advertised better so women and families can find this book for someone they love or someone who wants to learn the truth of abuse without glazing over the depth and reality of this aweful cycle. Inborn Justice, Rae and Desiray's true life story, is truly Gods work and shines a light on a dark and evil path of wickedness that has to stop. The angels came out in numbers in a battle that often ends in grief and pain. Now that our path is lit, so will yours. No matter what your pain is, Rae and Desiray will change your life in the first few pages. I would give it 10 stars, but it is not an option. Buy one for yourself and gift a few more to those who need a kick in the head!
If your abused, pack, get your kids and read Inborn Justice.......2003-02-21
There are many books and motion pictures about family members. From good, bad and the ugly readers and movie buffs have seen it all. Pearl Harbor, Ali, Not Without My Daughter, Erin Brochovich and more.
Inborn Justice is the first book I have read from beginning to end and when I got to "Good Bye Debbie" I called everyone I knew and promised to pass it on.
Not everyone is a survivor, but 3-5 are. My copy of Inborn Justice (i just got back) is so worn out now that I have to purchase another one.
Our readers "Rose Readers Club" would like to invite Rae and Desiray to a private party in their honor.
Cheers, laughters, sadness, anger and then I crawled to the most spectacular ending a book about the tiumph of mother and daughter endured. Put this book on Oprah!
I know millions of woman will see abuse, domestic violence and raising their children in a whole new light after you get this book in the mail. Mothers: Pack, get your kids, walk, buse or dive as far as possible without looking back. Leave that life behind. Buy it read it and pass it on to a women's shelter.
Inspiring Story because of Inspiring People.......2000-11-21
Read this book for the same reason you will listen to your favorite album, or root for your team, or look at a statue when on vacation...to see and admire what people are capable of. Rae is a hero, and I enjoyed reading about it. dominickolas@hotmail.com
Tears, laughter, anger and admiration. A book you must read.......2000-02-16
Never in my life have I ever read such a powerful story about two very strong minded girls who suffered abuse, became a survivor and then literally changed the world! Rae's writing is purely poetic and shattering. Filled with suspence and the characters are real. This is one story that will make a motion picture in years to come. I read this book in one sitting. It had such an impact on my own life as a survivor that I am ready to face my own abuser, and transform my anger into a incredible bond with my own children beginning today! Tom Arnold did a spectacular job writing about the hero's Rae and Desiray. I could not have written it better myself. Now I am going to write the authors and thank her for taking all the darkness in my life and transforming it into a rainbow of love. A love for myself and survivors across the nation.
Book Description
Leonard B. Meyer's writings on the theory, history, perception, and aesthetics of music have inspired and provoked generations of readers. The Spheres of Music makes available a selection of his most important essays (originally published between 1974 and 1998). Gathering them together in one volume not only enables the essays to "converse" with and illuminate each other, but also allows Meyer to revise, recant, and comment on the ideas they present.
With the same sensitive insight and searching intelligence he has exhibited throughout his career, Meyer transcends the boundaries that so often separate fields of inquiry. The Spheres of Music joins music theory to history, history to culture, culture to aesthetics, aesthetics to psychology, and psychology back to theory. In so doing, the book highlights the complex interrelationships at the heart of the creation, comprehension, and history of music. Diverse and adventurous, The Spheres of Music presents an intriguing and impressive collection of Meyer's work.
"Ever since the publication of his Emotion and Meaning in Music . . . I have considered Leonard B. Meyer one of the keenest thinkers about music among us."—Winthrop Sargeant, The New Yorker

A decent addition to the Planescape universe.......2006-06-01
Planescape was arguably the best dungeons and dragons campaign setting TSR ever produced. In terms of role-playing opportunities, depth of ideas, volume of content, and maturity level of the game, Planescape certainly took things to a whole new level entirely. "Blood Hostages" is the first in a trilogy of books based on the Planescape campaign setting. Blood Hostages tells the tale of Aereas and his cousin Nina, who are chasing after Nina's abducted father, Artus. Being mostly ignorant of the Planes, the cousins are swept up in power struggles they don't fully comprehend, and soon discover that Artus' kidnapping has something to do with the world-spanning Blood War between the lawfully evil Baatezu, and their chaotically evil rivals, the Tanar'ri.
In an effort to convey the mind bending nature of the Planes, the author (J. Robert King) occasionally shifts view points suddenly, or describes some seemingly unimportant back story during a tense scene, or will radically change writing style for a brief time. While this was certainly a commendable effort, it unfortunately wasn't executed as well it as could have been. Instead of a mind twisting, soul altering, jaw dropping tour-de-force of planar mayhem, the reader will get an overall competent, but occasionally forced or boring, fantasy read. Blood Hostages isn't entirely true to Planescape mythology (King occasionally seems confused as to which creatures are Baatezu and which are Tanar'ri), but it does have enough of the good stuff packed within to keep the reader turning the pages. When Nina and Aeareas, two Clueless prime worlders who don't know the Nine Hells from the Abyss, are thrust into the Outer Planes, they are fortunate enough to receive a guide in the form of the friendly gnome Boffo. This is where the story starts to pick up and the insanity of the Planes really starts to set in. The cousins receive a tour from Boffo of Sigil, the city which sits atop an infinitely tall spire at the center of the Mulitverse. King almost perfectly describes the city's look and feel, and how its various inhabitants and organizations could drive a prime worlder completely barmy.
Although Sigil is given its due, the rest of the multiverse isn't shown quite as much favor. After the first third of the book, the author seems to become bored with describing things in great depth, and starts glossing over things that really should be given more attention to. At one point in the story the characters are floating throughout the Astral Plane atop the body of a dead god - and the sky is raining demonic Tanar'ri intent on ripping everything to pieces. This scene had the potential to be both highly terrifying and extremely exciting, but it's dealt with in unfortunate "assembly line fantasy" style, with the minimum detail required to get the point across and move on to the next section.
Overall, Blood Hostages is a decent addition to the Planescape universe, but it could have been so much better if a little more time had been spent expanding the story into a larger novel.
To Call This One Mediocre is Being Nice.......2005-12-02
Like many weirdos and geeks, I love to read science fiction and fantasy novels. Especially those that come in a series. However, this particular dull gemstone reeks with the flair of...other sub-par fantasy fiction.
THE BLOOD WAR AWAITS!!!.......2004-08-08
Definitely a great fantasy epic and one of my personal favorites, The Blood Wars Trilogy-Blood Hostages, Abyssal Warriors, and Planar Powers, brings to life the story of Aereas and Nina, two cousins, and their adventures in the "multiverse" that is the World of Planescape. The books are so incredibly well written that the reader feels that they have been transported to another universe and are actually present among the characters, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, sensing what they sense.
The author has done a FANTASTIC job of both acquiring vast knowledge relevant to the Planes as well as presenting this material efficiently and successfully! His solid grasp of factual detail makes him very capable of providing the necessary background needed to carry out the very difficult task of writing Planescape novels, which is something often missing from the work of many Fantasy authors.
JR King has truly outdone himself and has presented us with a masterpiece of literature the likes of which we have seen only in JRR Tolkien's work and in authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends trilogies as well as RA Salvatore's Icewind Dale and Dark Elf Trilogies. Love, fiends, bravery, magic, swordfights and battles of epic proportion are all about. A great trilogy indeed and a "must read" along with Pages of Pain, sadly, the only other novel written in the Planescape setting.
good intro to wonderful series.......2002-08-17
I sincerely hope someone comes across this book either online or in some out-of-print book shop, and discovers the incredible imagery and thought JR. King put into these books. The books are short, but very well written. Even though the author is jumping through time and space, and heaven and hell, he manages to keep us interested in the characters.
Anyone who likes the idea of reading about a world that is as chaotic but strangely consistent as a dream will enjoy the ride that is the series.
As for the fact the book may not be true to canon Planescape, I can only say who cares? The books are still beautiful, and I highly recommend them to younger readers as a mind opening experience.
Good fun for the Clueless.......2001-01-18
Just as a warning, this is the first fiction book I've read in a while. I've played D&D and have a copy of the 1st edition Manual of the Planes, but I have never read the Planescape manual. I probably would have enjoyed the story more if I knew more about the creatures. The monsters and many of the settings were not given as much description as I would have liked, though the choice of settings and plot devices kept my interest throughout the book. (*Spoiler - another review in Amazon criticizes the author's treatment of the Lady of Pain, but she is in no scenes and is not mentioned very often. I haven't read the other books yet, so perhaps the reviewer was referring to the trilogy as a whole.)

Book Description
A president has been overthrown by a military coup in a nameless country in an unspecified era. The president's barber, chef, and portraitist are imprisoned, with many others, in a remote palace in the hills high above the city center. Before the coup, these three men worked with unquestioning loyalty, serving the president in seemingly benign jobs. Now, forced to serve the country's new leader, they begin to reconsider their role in the old regime.
In simple, elegant prose Blood Kin alternates between the voices of the barber, the chef, and the portraitist. Later in the book their wives, lovers, and daughters tell their own tales. As the old order falls, so does the veil that hides the truth about these men and women's secret passions. No one, it seems, is entirely immune to the many temptations of power.
Ceridwen Dovey's debut is a welcome addition to the important tradition of allegorical writing about political upheaval and personal guilt. Her clever, magnetic story will resonate with fans of J. M. Coetzee, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Gabriel García Márquez.

Binding: Spiral-bound
ASIN: 1423517954 |
Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A507424. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program was created in 1982 to stimulate research and development among small businesses while providing the government innovative technical and scientific solutions to challenging problems. In the SBIR Program, Phase I awards are made for research projects that evaluate the scientific and technical merit of an idea. Phase II awards are made to further develop selected Phase I projects that demonstrate the greatest potential. In Phase III, the small business or research institute is expected to obtain funding from the private sector and/or non-SBIR government sources to develop the prototype into a viable product or service for sale in the military or private-sector markets. This study identifies and measures the variables that shape the success of the Naval Air System Command's (NAVAIR) SBIR program from the stakeholders' point of view. As different stakeholders have different perspectives on how they perceive success in this program, the authors used a qualitative approach to identify the variables that shape the success of NAVAIR's SBIR program from the small firms' viewpoint. The analysis and results were generated based on the interviewees' perceptions and responses to questions asked in telephone interviews. The authors interviewed a representative sample of firms that had successfully reached Phase III in the SBIR Program. On completion of the interviews, the samples were transcribed and subjected to qualitative comparative analysis. The results were used to identify the variables that represent the main factors leading to program success.

TSR FANTASY SERIES
Book Description
The implementation of sound quantitative risk models is a vital concern for all financial institutions, and this trend has accelerated in recent years with regulatory processes such as Basel II. This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the theoretical concepts and modelling techniques of quantitative risk management and equips readers--whether financial risk analysts, actuaries, regulators, or students of quantitative finance--with practical tools to solve real-world problems. The authors cover methods for market, credit, and operational risk modelling; place standard industry approaches on a more formal footing; and describe recent developments that go beyond, and address main deficiencies of, current practice.
The book's methodology draws on diverse quantitative disciplines, from mathematical finance through statistics and econometrics to actuarial mathematics. Main concepts discussed include loss distributions, risk measures, and risk aggregation and allocation principles. A main theme is the need to satisfactorily address extreme outcomes and the dependence of key risk drivers. The techniques required derive from multivariate statistical analysis, financial time series modelling, copulas, and extreme value theory. A more technical chapter addresses credit derivatives. Based on courses taught to masters students and professionals, this book is a unique and fundamental reference that is set to become a standard in the field.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent for statisticians.......2007-08-03
This book is more like Mathematical Statistics for Risk Management. It covers some reviews of standard mathematical stat and some advanced and latest materials as well as applications in risk management. But as some other reviewers already mentioned, the focus is on the statistics and probability for risk management rather than the business context. And it is written in a rather formal theorem-proof format which, to some extent, could have been simplified for other audiences. It is excellent for someone with heavy stat background such as MS/PhD in statistics or PhD in Finance.
Another book that is a bit easier to read that covers Stat and Finance well with business context is: Statistics and Finance: An Introduction, which includes more than financial risk management.
Software implementation available for S-Plus and R.......2007-07-24
Although not obvious, there is software available to implement the functionality described mathematically in the book. Alexander McNeil provides S-Plus code on his personal website, and there is an R port of that code on CRAN called QRMlib. Most of the provided software is on fitting fat-tailed distributions. This is all very useful in practice, if you care to be statistically precise. Unfortunately, many practitioners would clearly prefer rules of thumb to quantitative methods only usable with statistical software that doesn't run in Excel. Excellent theoretical text with solid backing software.
Good for academia, bad for practice.......2007-06-08
This is a typical theoretical book. With all pros and cons around that statement. As a mathematician I found it well written in terms of math introduction to the subject. BUT I would never recommend that book for the practical learning. It is SO FAR away from the practical quants everyday job, that one would never use that book. 3 stars= 5/2(theory)+1/2(practice)
Very good.......2007-02-13
I found this book very interesting and well written, but not for all readers. It covers all quantitative risk management topics with a good mathematical approach: this could be a great textbook for general risk management courses, and it give importance to EVT technics, mulivariate models and copula-modelling. The treatment of market risk is complete and exhaustive, and a good actuarial approach for credit risk can be found too. The operational risk chapter is poor, it gives only an introductive section for it and for actuarial models.
It requires a good mathematical background to be well understand, but it is a great book to introduce the whole quantitative risk management theory.
very well written.......2006-02-16
It's a very well written self-contained yet compact "QUANTITATIVE" risk management book. Just as the title, it gives a comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the concepts, techniques and tools, applicable in modeling equity, credit, or operational risk. The writing style is clear and rigorous; it serves a good reference book.
