THe Foulkes have hit their stride with this marvelous and detailed guide to the beautiful Upstate New York area. Their rich narrative draws the reader right in, enticing you to visit the many sights. This book is a must read for travelers to the area.

I love this book.......2007-05-22

As an 8th grader, I found this series (and this book especially) to be a great read. The characters are great to relate to and I find it fun to imagine you are these people and you are living this amazing life. It is also showing that even though you may have money, you do not always have the perfect life. Even though there were inappropriate material in this book, I didn't think it was so inappropriate that I couldn't handle it. If you are feeling uncomfortable reading this book, it's not hard to skip those pages.

They Have Sex in Dressing Rooms.......2007-01-05

As a parent of a daughter, I was disappointed at the twisted values of the characters. Selfish, hedonistic, material, snobish, I could continue but I'm sure you get the drift. They are NOT the kind of characters I would want my daughter to emulate, and unfortunately many girls do. For those of us that grew up thinking that a Judy Blume novel was a little daring, these Gossip Girl books make Blume look like Blue's Clues in comparison.

I LOOOOOVE the gossip girl series! They are one of my favorite series out there. I actually have all of them and like them all. This is my favorite of them just because. They leave you at the end with so much suspense and it makes you want to go out and purchase #9. And that's just what I did! The BEST book EVER!!!

PARENTS BEWARE!!!!.......2006-06-30

Parents BEWARE!!! The author uses very strong profanity throughout her "trashy" (my opinion) books. Do we really want our young teens or even young adults reading stuff that is littered with the grand-daddy of all cuss words? I sure hope not, I'd like to think that we still have good morals and values to pass along to the next generation. Check it out for yourself...she uses "f" like it is nothing at all throughout the whole book. Go check it out at any bookstore! I have had her books removed from our school library as well as our local public library.

Nothing Can Keep us Together.......2006-06-25

Another fantastic novel by Cecily! I loved this book. I read til 1:00 every night because I just couldn't put it down! This was definitely one of my favorites because throughout (basicly) the whole book, Serena and Nate were together. Although they're not my favorite couple, it's much better than just having Nate put with some random girl. Truthfully, I would have loved to see more of Blair-less of Serena. I just like Blair the best. I'm actually going to be quite relieved if Jenny isn't in the books anymore. I'm not HER biggest fan! But I really did like this book. Except, the kiss at the end was kind of uncalled for...

Always looking for new and exciting cocktails to try, I purchased this book. Each page became more interesting, not only for the drinks presented but for the knowledge that Mr. Bondurant shares about Tahiti, it's culture, local accomodations, etc.

I have always wanted to go to the Tahitian islands but have never had the opportunity. Now, after reading "Cocktails in Tahiti", I am planning a trip to Tahiti for next Summer. I originally thought "Cocktails in Tahiti" would give me some good ideas for entertaining, but soon found out it contained many intersting nuggets about the islands and their history. To sum it up, I am packed and ready to go to these beautiful islands.

I have never been to Tahiti, but after reading the fun, informative facts about Tahiti, seeing the beautiful pictures, and sampling some of the excellent cocktail recipes, I am ready to go!

Mr. Bondurant's love and knowledge of Tahiti come through clearly in the book, which is very well laid out. It provides enough information and explains things in such a way that an amateur can make delicious Tahitian cocktails as well as the most experienced bartender. The fun facts about Tahiti, along with summaries of the total hotels and the gorgeous pictures, makes this book a must have.

Until I can take my first trip to Tahiti, this book will help bring a little Tahiti to my home.

Love me tender, love me true.......2001-02-24

I now have all 7 volumes - all 7 available currently. But I only got volume 5 about a month ago, much later than 6 and 7. And the biggest problem I am facing now - how am I going to make it last till they print the 8th?! I read one story per week - though I die to gulp them down and make a feast of reading this book. Each precious tender love story - only one a week. Once in a week I sit down and switch the world off and read about love - because that is what Sturgeon have been writing about all his life. He takes you by hand and shows you that somebody's Eden is always somebody's else Hell; and makes you walk beside a quiet girl - quietly.. Or sit and listen to a slow dialogue of two cowboys near the fire - and at the last words to burst out laughing only to smile sadly and tenderly a minute later... Theodore Sturgeon makes you love life - and that is the best compliment I could pay any writer.

A literary slap in the face.......1999-06-17

As a writer, Sturgeon provokes one of two reactions in me: either to just give up since I know I'll never be able to equal that much quality for as long as I live, or to sit back down and write even more in an redoubled effort to equal that quality. I tend to like the second myself and I think Ted would agree, reading one of his stories you get a sense of wonder and enchantment, much as he probably felt writing it and to me it's like a gaunlet being thrown down saying, "This is the best I can do, I know you can do just as good. Prove it." Ah but the quality here is not to be believed. Even if you discount the "undiscovered" story "Quietly" which is apparently a precursor somehow to More Than Human (it's a tenuous link, even the series editor admits it) there's stuff like the title story, one of the groundbreaking stories not only for science fiction telling but the short story genre in general, there's also a neat creepy jazz story and a Western story and so much that when you finish you sit back and think about all the good stuff you just read . . . and then realize that the five volumes that are to come are supposed to represent his very best work. Argh, Ted, you don't make the challenge easy but I think it's one I accept. You want no less. Read them all already, what are you waiting for?

Introduce yourself to science fiction's greatest writer........1999-01-17

The publication of the collected short works of Theodore Sturgeon is cause for rejoicing. Sturgeon is the Beethoven of Science Fiction, and this fact has not yet been recognized. The thing that makes Beethoven tower over all other classical composers is his compelling ability to communicate powerful emotion. His greatest works are more than technical masterpieces; they make the listener glad to be human. They uplift, magnificantly.

This is also exactly true of Theododre Sturgeon. Sturgeon's greatest works speak directly to the heart, as do the works of Beethoven. And they do so as powerfully, since they almost always speak of love. Human love, not any pale imitation.

For several decades, most people new to Sturgeon had to approach him through his novels, since publishers did not like to print short story collections. This is a shame, since approaching Sturgeon through his novels is very much like approaching Beethoven through his string quartets. Masterpieces they may be, but they're not terribly approachable. If you want to appreciate Beethoven, start with his symphonies. If you want to appreciate Sturgeon, start with his short stories.

And just as Beethoven's best work was done later in his life, so also were Sturgeon's best stories. In the time frame that "The Perfect Host" covers, Sturgeon was just beginning to hit his stride. His greatest work will show up in the volumes to come.

This book is chalked full of information - but some of it is a little outdated - though not all of it. There is a lot of great ideas, information, etc., - you just might need to apply a 90's spin, etc., to some of it. I was hoping to find some really great party games -- don't buy it for this necessarily. Overall, no regrets about buying the book.

This handbook is not only the most informative of all, but it is also a great guide to throwing parties. Its biggest section about making drinks is a fabulous 'word to the wise'. I encourage you to buy this book!
