Book Description
Many people list this as the most unusual book they have ever read. Millions say it changed their lives and introduced them to the solution to their problems. This is not a book about a prison with bars, but about a prison of circumstances-and how to be set free!
Customer Reviews:
Good information, but a little outdated.......2007-09-11
This book had some good points that my husband and I both took away from it; information that we still use to help us through the hard times. The negative side is just that it is outdated. I think they called the black man a "negro" which sounded a little odd, and the square nature of the text made the book a little corny. The book had some very good points, some good food for the soul, but you have to read through some less interesting text to find it.
Highly Reccomend!.......2007-09-04
This is an excellent book to encourage a person to praise in all circumstances and watch for the Lord to respond.
A heart change.......2007-07-23
In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul writes about the ways of God seeming foolish to man.
In Isa 55:9 God says through Isaiah : For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
In Prison to Praise, Merlin Carrothers shares with us something that sounds so foolish to my human ears. Unlike some other books, it doesn't have promises of great things like the Prayer of Jabez - only a heart change.
I was assigned this book as part of a Biblical Counselor program. I found others to read because this looked like a 'formula' book.
When my husband first starting reading this book, he was transformed - and encouraged me to read it....but still, my way was to put it off. One day I picked it up - and I was furious - "Praise God for the evil? Praise God for the bad?". I just couldn't line it up with my theology.
Then, I was in a crisis in my life - and anxious, fearful, and discouraged and in despair. When I prayed for God to hear my cry, the verse "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise" (Ps 100:4) came to me, with "be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" Phil 4:6.
I have spent a month listening to God open up this teaching to me, and show me "If this had not happened in your life, you would not have this blessing....If that had happened in your life, you would not have that blessing" as well as opening up stories in the Bible where the ugly looking things ended up being the path to glory. This book opened the door in my heart to a new relationship with the Father, only behind my salvation in 1969 and my Baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1977.
I don't know the deeper meanings of the words, I can't speak to whether we give thanks 'in' or 'for', but I know that as I embrace the principles illustrated in this book, my heart is changed, fear is chased off, and I am in the presence of the Lord more and more, and in His presence is fullness of joy(Ps 16:11).
I didn't get cars, houses, lands or money - but I have the peace that passes understanding that keeps my heart and mind in Christ Jesus - I am walking in the joy Jesus wanted me to live in - and that is of far greater worth than anything on this earth!
So if you are ready to give up fear for faith, despair for hope, and confusion for clarity in Christ, pick up this book. To me, that is worth trying something that seems foolish, and I encourage it, I challenge you to read this book, and open your heart to God.
Prison to Praise.......2007-01-29
This is a must have book. The stories are inspirational. I bought 7 and gave all away.
Must be a Spirit filled Christian to wholly understand this book........2006-09-28
Although I do not agree with every single teaching in this book, it is a great testimony of one man's journey to draw closer to Jesus. It is full of spiritual foundational building blocks that are essential for a successful and fulfilling walk with Christ. As a missionary with almost 40 years on the foreign mission field, I have lived by the same basic spiritual lessons taught in this book and can share many similar testimonies which prove that this is sound doctrine and firmly based in scripture and is the ultimate will of God for all Christians attain to. As I read through these reviews I found a negative review by, Ron "Truthdetective", that totally missed the whole point of this book. Ron felt that the book was saying that we should praise God for all the evil in the world. Obviously, Ron is not a spirit filled Christian and that is why he missed the point. Ron dismisses the miraculous personal testimonies of God's power working in people lives through praise because he does not believe God still does miracles today. This is evident in his statement when he says "modern testimonials" because he believes that God did do miracles in the past but has ceased to do them in modern times. People like Ron hate this book because it directly contradicts everything they believe and because the book offers real unquestionably testimonies to back up what the book is saying. The most irritating thing about this book, to people like Ron, is that, as Merlin clearly illustrates, even though he had been through bible school and seminary and had wholly devoted himself to understanding the bible, he understood nothing until he was filled with the Holy Spirit. In this book, Merlin, shows that he was a person exactly like Ron "Truthdetective", that was obsessed with searching scripture and understanding the truth. And just like Ron, he ridiculed and openly mocked spirit filled Christians as foolish and phony. But of course, this all changed when he himself was filled with Holy Spirit. After which he dismissed all of his former beliefs and let the Holy Spirit be his teacher. This is the true foundation of the Christian walk and is entirely based in scripture. Jesus said in John 14:25-26 " These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you. But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you."
If you are a Spirit filled Christian going through a trial and need encouragement, then you should read this book. If you are a lost person that has been ravaged by the consequences of your bad choices in life and are searching for truth and meaning, then you should read this book. If your are a hard-shell, bible thumping, religious person that has been indoctrinated to believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit and miracles are not for us today, then get down on your knees right now and ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and then read this book. Otherwise you are not going to understand it, just like Ron.

A glorious book, just like Prison to Praise, Power in Praise, and Praise Works.
I have read each at least 5 times, and want to read each again, because they are so good.
I have given away multiple copies of each, to my Christian church.
I recommend these very highly.

Book Description
From the beginning of time people have been incarcerated for many reasons. Praise Him in Prison relates stories from the Bible about people who were incarcerated for various reasons. Each person's story includes information about how that person used spiritual strength to cope with being locked away from society. Many have descriptions of prison life at their time of incarceration. The second part of Praise Him in Prison contains stories of other incarcerated people who used their own spiritual strength to endure the prison experience. The last part is the author's story of her own experience. Included in the book are Jonah, Peter, Paul, Joseph, Jeremiah, Corrie ten Boom, Joan of Arc, Saint Patrick, Dietrich Bonhoffer, and Viktor Frankl. Each story is unique to the individual's perspective of the prison system. These stories are useful for devotionals, spiritual discussions, sermons, and lessons for individuals or groups.

Book Description
As a parent you cannot prepare yourself; when something goes wrong during the birth of a child, the results are immediate, and the consequences ongoing. Mary Chan and her husband, Paul, were expecting their first child with delight and anxiety, and, when Sabrina was born, their dreams came true. Months later, Sabrina would be diagnosed as having a severe deformity in her heart, and their world would turn upside down.
Facing decisions that no parent is prepared to face, Mary began writing a journal, to chronicle her babys valiant fight and the questions that plagued her own heart. The journal turned into a book, the book into a powerful story about walking the fine line between human frailty and human strength.

My child has had 2 heart transplants.......2003-07-15
I have read the book and being a parent of a child who was borm with a SEVERE conginetal heart defect who had surgery at one day
old andlater at 18 months had a heart transplant then a year and a half ago at age 11hadANOTHER transplant.I am TRULY APPALLED and HORRIFIED by this book.I was given this book by the transplant team at the hospital we use to review as they
were considered giving the book to new patients waiting HOWEVER I would not recommend this book to ANYONE who's child is preparing for a transplant as it paints a very warped view of the whole process.
Having a child with a heart transplant is quiet chalenging at times and yes there are MANY clinic apointments and heart caths.
and ups and downs BUT things are not by any means the way they are portrayed in this book.I am sure ANY parent who's child is waiting for a transplant will do MUCH better by actually talking to other parents who's child has gone through the process than by reading this..In my opinion the author just had a "pity"party for them selves through out the whole book...

This book is a great tool for learning how to read........1998-09-12
This book was really cool. I especially liked the picture that went with the riddle for doll. The dolls hair reminded me a lot like playdough, which i used to play with when i was younger. My next door neighbor loved it.( although their baby, Marcy, started eating the cover.) I think it was awesome how all the drawings were done on your computer, and the riddles are very rhymy. Cool!

A Great Book for Fun and Education! (A review of "It Starts with A").......2005-07-25
This is just a wonderful book for young children. There are interesting pictures for the really young, a little bit of poetry for all, and a mind teasing game for older children.
Examples:
"You travel in this.
It begins with an A.
It starts on the ground,
then flies up, up, away!"
(airplane)
"This is a candy
that comes on a stick.
It starts with an L,
and it's fun to lick."
(lollipop)
My 5 year-old really likes this book, and I like that she has to think for a moment before coming up with the answer. My only recommendation would be to have a 3x5 card at hand. Each page, with it's riddle, has four pictures. The last picture shows the answer. We had more fun (and it was more educational) when we hid that last picture.
Four Stars. Its a cute alphabet book for toddlers, and a great fun, `thinking' book for kindergarteners.
My child loves this book!.......2000-04-21
We originally borrowed this book from the library or I should say my child borrowed the book--she picked it up from the shelves by herself. We bought the book the next day! My child is four years old and she loves this book! We read this book at bedtime at least four times a week.
The illustrations are colorful and fun, having no problem engaging my child visually. The rhymes accompanying each letter is fun to read and my child has memorized all of them. This is great book to have in your home library under the "learning the alphabet" category. Purchase it when you find it!

ABC book with rebuses - lots of fun.......2007-06-09
This is a very cute ABC book in which each letter is illustrated by a rhyme in rebus form, and with a border containing items that start with that letter. Some of the rebus-rhymes are pretty clever, too: "G was for Gr+(picture of an egg)+ory, a no+(picture of a bull) goose, who took (picture of a paintbox)+ing lessons from a (picture of a man) called 2+loose." Some of the rebus clues might be tricky for modern-day kids (and one or two were tricky for me!), but there's also an illustration of the completed rhyme that should provide extra hints if needed. Very amusing find, this!

Book Description
In 1947 the theologian and musicologist Friedrich Smend published a study which claimed that J. S. Bach regularly employed the natural-order number alphabet (A=1 to Z=24) in his works. Smend provided historical evidence and music examples to support his theory which demonstrated that by this means Bach incorporated significant words into his music, and provided himself with a symbolic compositional scheme. Since then many people have taken up Smend’s theory, interpreting numbers of bars and notes in Bach scores according to the natural-order alphabet. By presenting a thorough survey of different number alphabets and their uses in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Germany, Dr Tatlow investigates the plausibility of Smend’s claims. Her new evidence fundamentally challenges Smend’s conclusions and the book sounds a note of caution to all who continue to use his number-alphabet theory. Dr Tatlow’s painstaking research will fascinate all those with an interest in the music of J. S. Bach and German Baroque culture, and will be of particular importance for music historians and analysts.

Book Description
As the tides of all the trendy business initiatives from the last twenty years have all disappeared, one concept has remained in their wake and continues to thrive today: team strategies. When implemented correctly, the results are impressive. Organizationswhether they are corporations or ministrieshave successfully developed team strategies and are now experiencing significant increases in productivity and services.
Team resource expert Pat MacMillan discusses the characteristics of a high performance team and how to implement a new paradigm of leadership to bring any organization to greater efficiency.
Customer Reviews:
Teamwork. . . detailed.......2006-11-03
MacMillan's text helps readers see the benefits of working in a team oriented environment. The Performace Factor is nothing to write home about and doesn't really shed new light on the academic discussion of administration. If you are new to the concept, then maybe this text is for you, but if you are well read in the field, this will probably only be interesting as far as the story of the airplane crash is concerned.
Landmark Book and so current!.......2006-09-03
I came across this book in 2006, 5 years after its publication. Yet it is so current - the described characteristics of a high performance team help me apply immediately in a real world and global project environment. Using Flight 232 as a story line help us mentally linked to the principles and make the book an interesting read. The "Team Wheel", "Message to Team Leader", Figures and Diagrams are all very useful. Highly recommended for anyone who had or had not read "The Wisdom of Teams".
Great Book! Great Wisdom!.......2001-09-15
Pat MacMillan is one of the top consultants in the USA to Fortune 500 businesses and non-profit organizations. In this book he gave me, for under $20, thousands of dollars of help for my own personal "team building" challenges, and those of my own consulting clients.
Unlike some business books, this one is readable and helpful at the *personal* as well as the organizational level. There is, quite simply, a truck-load of wisdom and counsel in this book.
Joe B. Webb, President
Webb & Associates
No Other Book Like It!.......2001-05-03
This book on teams is the best I have ever seen on the subject. The author retells the story of United Flight 232 throughout the book to make his points. It brings the principles to life in a very real life way. The "team wheel" and the chapters on the qualities of a high performance team are worth the price of the book alone.
This book would be of real value to anyone leading a team. It would be an especially good resource for consultants as well. Lots of graphs and diagnostic tools make the book feel like a library of resources.
On a personal note, there is a lot you can apply to any set of relationships where you are on a team. I learned a lot about being a husband and dad just reading it!
Create Synergy.......2001-04-03
For the past 2 years, I have used Pat MacMillan's principles to impact organization's greatest assets, their people. The Performance Factor is the heart of these principles and I have watched as organizations applied them. Synergy was created, i.e. 1+1= 3,4,5. These principles work, regardless of what culture you are in, for I have taught them in North America, UK, Asia, South East Asia and Thailand. It is simply the best investment you will ever make for the success of your organization.
