1928. Illustrated from photographs and with facsimiles of the author's drawings and letters. Theodore Roosevelt was more than just the 26th president of the United States. He was a writer, historian, explorer, big-game hunter, soldier, conservationist, ranchman and Nobel Peace Prize winner. These are his complete diaries of the daily observations he made as a boy. They begin when the author was ten years of age on his first trip to Europe-in Italy, France, England-and continue later on his visits to the Adirondacks and New England and on a second trip abroad which included Egypt and the Holy Land. Book Description
From the moment her son was diagnosed with diabetes, author Karen Hargrave-Nykaza felt lost. Although there was plenty of medical information on the disease, she struggled to find ideas for managing typical, everyday activities. How would she keep her family's life normal while addressing one child's health issues? How much information did her son's school need? Play dates, birthday parties, and her son's developing independence also troubled her.
Faced with such challenges, and having no resource to turn to, Hargrave-Nykaza began her quest to uncover the answers. In a straightforward, supportive manner, My Child Has Diabetes shares Hargrave-Nykaza's knowledge to help other parents in similar situations cope with their child's disease. With checklists, tips, and reassurance, My Child Has Diabetes includes topics such as the following:
· Adjusting to life with diabetes
· Finding support for you and your child
· Supplying your child's school with the necessary information
· Gaining control without obsessing
If you're the parent of a diabetic child, put your mind at ease-learn to create a healthy, happy environment for your children and your family with My Child Has Diabetes. "Karen Hargrave-Nykaza's book is a welcome addition to diabetes literature. It accurately and helpfully brings the practical and emotional aspects of diabetes to light. A must have for anyone dealing with diabetes!"
-Renea Jo Zosel, author Diabetes: An Emotional Journey

Practical and helpful support.......2006-06-13
Karen Hargrave-Nykaza responded as you'd hope a mother of a child with a chronic illness would, by focusing all her energy on responding to her son's diagnosis of juvenile diabetes. She has collected her experiences into a book that helps parents in her situation get through the day without reinventing the wheel, giving examples of tip sheets, procedures, and her responses to the many crises that occur from the moment you receive a diagnosis. Karen now leads groups counseling new families with how to cope.

Easy to read.......2005-01-26
I found this book a very easy read, which is important in trying to explain epilepsy to children. To educate children of the disorder is something that might seem like an difficult task, something thats pushed off to the side for a later date. However, with this book, its a task that doesn't look so daunting. You can explain epilepsy to your children in language that they understand.

Many parents read this book to their children. I received a lot of positive feedback. This book teaches young children about epilepsy. It helps children understand what a seizure is and not to get scared if they see someone having a seizure.

I am a writer and I have published a book called "Epilepsy You're Not Alone." Epilepsy You're Not Alone is an inspirational self- help book that teaches people with epilepsy how to live a healthy and productive life. The book shares encouraging stories and gives readers a workable program for coping with their disorder enabling readers to overcome their disorder and get on with their lives.
I have a third book coming out this fall called "Epilepsy and Pregnancy: What Every Women Should Know", Co-authored by Dr. Blanca Vasques. Through my efforts, I have been able to show other women that it is not impossible to become a mother. I have given women and couples hope and a new look on life. Epilepsy is just a disorder. Your life does not end because you have epilepsy.
I have a forth book coming out in the fall of 2005, called "Eternal Love: Romantic Poetry That Comes Straight from the Heart". I have a fifth book coming out called, "Faith, Courage, Wisdom Strength and Hope: Inspirational Poetry that comes from the Heart".
Accomplishments: I am an H.O.P.E. Mentor, for the Epilepsy Foundation. I speak at different events for schools, organizations, political events and anywhere my help is needed to educate people about epilepsy. I have recently been on four talk shows. The interviews focused on the importance of understanding what epilepsy is, how to help someone having a seizure and giving people with epilepsy encouragement and hope for the future.
I have been on radio stations discussing epilepsy and I have recently appeared in many newspapers all over New Jersey such as, The Leader, Belleville Post and the Star Ledger. On June 26, 2002, I was honored an award by the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey for Outstanding Volunteer Award and I spoke in Washington in front of congress.

Book Description
This volume covers the full range of issues professionals must consider when caring for children with life-threatening conditions or severe illnesses. It provides information on how family members can be helped to cope with this tragic burden, balancing their need for emotional and spiritual
support with the child's need for technical and scientific medical care. The importance of good listening and communication is stressed, as is the role of caregiver and liaison. Examples of hospice, hospital, and community programs are included, and chapters on bereavement, parent self-help
groups, care for professional carers, education, and children with AIDS provide in-depth coverage of these vital issues. A concluding chapter sets forth suggestions on how existing services might be improved upon to provide a comprehensive, compassionate, and flexible network of care for families
and children afflicted by life-threatening disease.

Book Description
It's natural for parents to want great things for their kids! However, children with typical health and development are not reality for all families, meaning many of those aspirations will never be achieved. The dreams are gone, and the losses must be grieved. Rebeckah J. Ripley has written a book that chronicles her family's journey through the understanding of their son's special needs. She shares her intimate struggles and uses truth from God's word to bring hope and encouragement to moms of very special kids!
Customer Reviews:
For families with children with health issues.......2006-12-28
Subtitled: A Journey from Grief to Joy
Grief comes to us through many experiences. Bearing a child whose limited abilities or health conditions cut short our dreams and opportunities is one. Author Rebeckah Ripley's account of her son's crisis birth and ongoing health problems is intended as a guide for mothers whose babies are born less than perfect.
Each short, easy-to-read chapter ends with Points to Ponder for thought and journaling by the individual reader or as topics for group discussions. The issues are those that any parent of a special needs child faces as she lives through stages that parallel those in Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's On Death and Dying.
The author modifies those stages to Denial, Anger, Guilt and Acceptance by saying that these four are unique to the experience of mothering a special needs child. Ripley herself worked through counseling, journaling and prayer to get to acceptance. She poses thought questions tailored to each of her four steps:
1. "What did you anticipate for the life of your child?"
2. "Are you angry now or have you felt anger because of your child's needs?"
3. "Do you feel guilt over your child's special needs?" and, finally,
4. "What do you think it would require from you to find peace from the grief?"
Potentially, Ripley's work could help many parents who share her experience. However, it is clear from the introduction onward that the author's advice is so deeply informed by her Christian faith (the Ripleys are Christian missionaries) that she effectively denies her help to people with other religious faiths or none.
For example, Chapter 2 is entitled "Right with God" and begins: "Nothing in this book can be of any benefit to you without the power of God working within you."
The chapter comprises numerous Bible quotations and commentary focused on Christian conversion as a necessary prerequisite.
This book also is well-padded with material that is only marginally related to the author's advice. Chapter 12, a detailed chronology of fetal development and Chapter 6, a series of prayers for her son based on Bible verses, seem intended to stretch this thin volume to its scant 123 pages.
Armchair Interviews says: A book with good information but a very strong Christian focus.
What a blessing!.......2004-03-01
I read this book, and it was such a blessing to me! Rebeckah touches topics like how to respond to the things people say and how to love and accept your child. I thought the focus of the book was about how I, as a mother, can respond to life - a life I did not choose, but a life I must now live. Her book encouraged me to walk through the feelings of denial, anger, and guilt. It was an excellent book. She was very real in what she wrote about her own struggles, and that helped me realize I am not alone in what I am going through. I highly recommend this book!

Book Description
The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) is one of the seminal works of western literature. Its impact on modern culture has been enormous, nourishing a plethora of twentieth century authors from Joyce and Borges to Kenzaburo Oe. Although Dante's influence in the literary sphere is well documented, very little has been written on his equally determining role in the evolution of the visual media unique to our times, namely, cinema and television. Dante, Cinema, and Television corrects this oversight.
The essays, from a broad range of disciplines, cover the influence of the Divine Comedy from cinema's silent era on through to the era of sound and the advent of television, as well as its impact on specific directors, actors, and episodes, on national/regional cinema and television, and on genres. They also consider the different modes of appropriation by cinema and television. Dante, Cinema, and Television demonstrates the many subtle ways in which Dante's Divine Comedy has been given 'new life' by cinema and television, and underscores the tremendous extent of Dante's staying power in the modern world.

Customer Reviews:
Truly challenging reasoning puzzles.......2007-07-06
These puzzles push the limits of a puzzler's logic and reasoning capabilities. It's even more amazing when you remember that these are the same puzzles that are done under time constraints in a competitive setting. They're difficult enough being done at one's own leisure! I love these puzzles for keeping my reasoning skills sharp. All you need is logic to do these, no matter what your native language, nor how much trivia you know.
serious disappointment.......2002-01-11
I enjoy problems and puzzles that make you think. Most of the "problems" in this book can be solved by tedious trial and error. There is hardly any need to or opportunity to think rationally. If you like grunt work in solving problems you might like this book, but if you like challenging thought problems, this is the wrong book. I gave it a one star rating because zero stars is not an option.
A waste of money!
