Book Description
With The Nature of North Carolina's Southern Coast, Dirk Frankenberg's effort to provide a comprehensive field guide to the state's dynamic shoreline is complete. Picking up where his 1995 book The Nature of the Outer Banks left off, this book covers the coastal region from Ocracoke Inlet to the South Carolina border. Along the way, it provides a close-up look at the area's natural environment, highlighting the processes that have shaped, and continue to shape, North Carolina's southern coast.
The book guides the reader to more than fifty different natural areasincluding barrier islands, coastal waters, estuaries, wetlands, and foreststhat have been preserved along 180 miles of coastline. Drawings, maps, and photographs amplify the text, aid in identifying common plants, and illustrate the local natural communities. In a final section, the author explores the effects of human land use on coastal areas, calling attention to a number of current environmental threats and discussing ways in which these issues might be addressed. Informative and useful, this book will aid and encourage the responsible exploration and enjoyment of North Carolina's coastal environment.

AAA Book better.......2005-09-03
This book provided me no useful information that wasn't available somewhere else in a cheaper or better format. If you are not a member of AAA, it might be useful, but it adds nothing that I could tell to the free AAA book(s) covering the same areas. I just got back from a trip driving in Northern Arizona/Southern Utah/Northwestern New Mexico and out of 5 sources it was the only one I did not take with me. It's possible the one I had was just outdated, but I don't think that was the only problem. Previous to buying it I looked at some other Frommer's in the book store, which seemed good. However, this (which I had not seen) to me was totally worthless.
A must for anyone traveling the Southwest!.......1998-07-15
This book was our Bible for our recent road trip through the four states covered. Accurate listings, in-depth coverage and helpful tips abound in this guide. We would have been lost without it!

Book Description
irls on Film is the wickedly funny and risqu sequel to the bestselling A-List that takes readers behind the scenes of the intoxicating world of Hollywood glitterati. Seventeen year-old Upper East Side blueblood Anna ('pronounced Aaaanah') Percy has moved from posh Manhattan to the even more posh Beverly Hills, California, where she's living with her estranged dad for the rest of the school year while her mother travels to Europe with a friend. Girls on Film begins with Anna's feeling empowered after telling Ben to take a hike. He, however, continues to pursue her - refusing to go back to Princeton without a reconciliation. Anna's just not sure if she buys his New Year's cover story: that he was helping out a celebrity friend who nearly drank herself to death. In the meantime, Anna wonders if she and Adam have any chemistry. Anna also bonds with Sam, and after mentioning Ben's New Year's alibi, the girls try to guess the identity of the mysterious alcoholic celebrity. The list of suspects is a veritable who's who of A-List actresses. Sam invites Anna to a desert spa weekend where, in a climactic finish, we find out whether Dee is actually pregnant with Ben's baby, how Sam resolves her romantic feelings for Anna and, most importantly, whether Ben was acting with pure intentions when he left Anna alone on his boat. The fast times of Beverly Hills most beautiful and glamorous people drive the page-turning action of this irresistible, stylishly written novel.

Great Follow Up For The A- List.......2007-07-14
Girls on Film by Zoey Dean was another great novel. Zoey did a great job on the second novel in this series. In this novel Anna works with Sam Sharpe on a school project film on the Great Gatsby. During which so, Anna discovers her screen-writing talent. Susan, Anna's sister leaves rehab to come stay with her, but during her stay, Cammie convinces her to drink and she ends up going to a party drunk, but luckily Anna's new friend, Sam, helps her, by telling veryone it was for a movie. Anna also forgives Ben after what he did to her and they get back together. This was another great book by the bestselling author Zoey Dean
The most boring out of the series.......2007-02-01
this one was extremly boring. zoey dean kept reapeating what her characters thought in their head, and dont you get tired of reading the same thing over and over again throughout an entire book?!?!
besides that, she left out one of my favorite characters. which is her dads hired driver for anna. anna described him as a "sexy handsome guy" and i always wanted them to somehow become friends. but in the third book he wasnt even in it.
the first two books were fantastic..this one just repeated itself too much for my liking.
also you can predict whats going to happen.
# two is just as good!.......2006-08-22
Anna Percy is finally over Ben. (at least that's what she keeps telling herself...) Anna starts to really like Adam, a basketball star from Michigan. (Go blue!) She is just starting to let go of Ben and concentrate on her realshionship with Adam, when Ben makes a huge play to win her back. He puts balloons at her house, roses in her room, and even makes a surprise visit asking for her forgiveness. Anna keeps telling Ben (and herself!) that she is done with him, but she starts to wonder whether or not she really is. So, Anna decides to put her relashionship with Adam on hold to clear things up with Ben. After Ben tells her the truth about what happened on New Year's, Anna decides to forgive him. They finally, in the end, get back together again! Yay! Am I the only one that thinks they should be together?
Can't wait to read number three!
The A-List #2: Girls on Film .......2006-06-20
I liked this book just as much as the first one, and I was so happy with the ending I could just die. It reminded me of another sequel I've read, but I just can't think.
Anyways, Susan came to Beverly Hills from rehab and now Cammie is trying to get at Anna by being friends with Susan, and Sam is very confused about her sexuality. Things between Anna and Adam are heating up, but Ben still isn't completely out of the picture.
There are so many twists in one little book, but now that I have the third book in the series I will pick up again right away!
disappointed.......2006-06-16
Since the first book was sooooo good, I was excited to pick up the second one, only to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, just not as good as the rest. After her emotional night with Ben, Anna decides to go out with high school basketball star Adam. Their first date goes well, but Ben is still on Anna's mind, mainly because he's making a show of trying to get her back. The rest of the gang is along for all their problems.

excellent.......2004-01-07
my son likes anything but reading science books. However, I found he learns from this CD
Relative, everything is relative..........2003-03-10
If I had this CD-ROM at High School, I would have been happy. It covers many High School level Biology such as meiosis, DNA and cell organels almost as good as Microsoft's Encarta Encyclopedia (if not as good as Encarta.) However, this CD-ROM provides more animations than Encarta does. Therefore, I would rate this CD-ROM as a 4 star for highschool.
However, if you are interested in something more complex... biochemistry pathways, reaction mechanisms, etc. This CD-ROM is not exactly for you to learn new concepts... yet it would be a good product to review highschool biology; hence, it would be a 2 star for a college student.
If you try the quiz, it is somewhat dissapointing at first (the first question was: "Why are atomic number integers"); however, the last questions are good (topics on C4 photosynthesis.)
I give this CD-ROM a 3 star because is the average between hs perspective and college perspective. =)
Book Description
Because molecular and cellular biology is such an exciting and rapidly moving area of science, teaching it at the undergraduate level is a rewarding, yet challenging, task. The Cell: A Molecular Approach meets this challenge by providing students with not only the most current information, but also with an introduction to the experimental nature of contemporary research. Designed for use in introductory cell biology courses, The Cell presents current comprehensive science in a readable and cohesive text that students can master in the course of one semester.
The new Third Edition of The Cell retains the organization, themes, and special features of earlier editions, but is updated to reflect scientific advances since publication of the Second Edition in 2000, including:
* progress that has been made in genome sequencing
* advances in understanding transcriptional regulation and mRNA processing
* the use of DNA microarrays in global studies of gene expression and cancer diagnostics
* advances in nuclear transport and protein trafficking
* progress in understanding the regulation of programmed cell death
* potential medical applications of embryonic stem cells
* the development of oncogene-targeted cancer treatments
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE CELL
With a clear focus on cell biology as an integrative theme, topics such as developmental biology, plant biology, the immune system, the nervous system, and muscle physiology are covered in their broader biological context.
"Key Experiment" boxes in each chapter describe seminal experiments in modern cell biology, showing the details and background to give students a sense of doing science.
"Molecular Medicine" boxes relate basic science to clinical practice or potential and show the excitement of molecular discovery and solutions to disease.
Chapter summaries are organized in outline form corresponding to the major sections and subsections of each chapter. This section-by-section format is coupled with a list of the key terms introduced in each section, providing a succinct but comprehensive review of the material.
The full-color art program is both pedagogically and scientifically outstanding.
In addition, each chapter includes: a brief chapter outline, bold-faced key terms (also defined in the glossary), and chapter-end questions (15 per chapter) with answers in the back of the book. The deliberate and cumulative result of this pedagogy is a book that students can master.

fast shipping, recieved book just as described, good as new!
i'd do business with seller again thanks.
The cooper cell.......2000-08-30
This book contained very usefull text information especially for whom undertaking cell biology. It as also recommended by Lecturers in Victoria University of Technology, in Australia. It provides excellent details of cell functions and related items in both the general view and the molecular view. The older version is also a very good source, but I think it is a bit out dated. I would recommend this text to whom is studying cell biology.
New! Second Edition of Cooper text is available!.......2000-06-30
The field of cell biology is so vast and changing so rapidly that teaching it can be a daunting prospect. The First Edition of The Cell: A Molecular Approach, published in 1997, offered the perfect solution for teachers and their students--current, comprehensive science combined with the readability and cohesiveness of a single-authored text. Designed for one-semester introductory cell biology courses, this book enabled students to master the material in the entire book, not simply to sample a small fraction from a much larger text. The new Second Edition of The Cell retains the organization, themes, and special features of the original, but it has been completely updated in major areas of scientific progress, including: genome analysis; chromatin and transcription; nuclear transport; protein sorting and trafficking; signal transduction; the cell cycle; and programmed cell death.
The new Second Edition was published June 16, 2000.
Excellent basic book.......1999-10-04
I teach cellular biolgy in senior hihg school, and I found in this book an excellent tool, were my students can find the basic information that they need. The CD is also a great idea, because the students can see some proceses in motion.
Excellent introductory book.......1998-08-28
I am an engineer by training and I am interested in appling biological principles to solving engineering problems (I am also the author of a book entitled Intelligent Systems for Engineering: A Knowledge-based Approach). Prof. Cooper's book is an amazingly well written book. Anyone can easily understand the concepts presented. My only advice to the author is to make the CD-ROM more interactive and if possible add narration. Congratuations on writing such an excellent book.

Book Description
Homogeneous hydrogenation is one of the most thoroughly studied fields of homogeneous catalysis. The results of these studies have proved to be most important for an understanding of the underlying principles of the activation of small molecules by transition metal complexes. During the past three decades homogeneous hydrogenation has found widespread application in organic chemistry, including the production of important pharmaceuticals, especially where a sophisticated degree of selectivity is required. This volume presents a general account of the main principles and applications of homogeneous hydrogenation by transition metal complexes. Special attention is devoted to the mechanisms by which these processes occur, and the role of the recently discovered complexes of molecular hydrogen is described. Sources of hydrogen, other than H2, are also considered (transfer hydrogenation). The latest achievements in highly stereoselective hydrogenations have made possible many new applications in organic synthesis. These applications are documented by giving details of the reduction of important unsaturated substrates (alkenes, alkynes, aldehydes and ketones, nitrocompounds, etc.). Hydrogenation in biphasic and phase transfer catalyzed systems is also described. Finally, a discussion of the biochemical routes of H2 activation highlights the similarities and differences in performing hydrogenation in both natural and synthetic systems. For researchers working in the fields of homogeneous catalysis, especially in areas such as pharmaceuticals, plastics and fine chemicals.

A Taxonomy of Difference.......2004-11-27
in GIRLS WHO WORE BLACK Johnson and Grace provide an interesting taxonomy of "who's beat" that almost makes sense. The Knight and Peabody books were, of course, groundbreaking collections but their definitions of who was Beat and who wasn't were so different that a reader could wind up arguing that Simone De Beauvoir was the quintessential Beat woman author. In an illuminating intrroductory essay, the editors aregue that some of this confusion has been caused by the fact that there are actually three generations of Beat women writers. The first generation (chronologically) are those born around the time of William Burroughs, and who thus anticipate the Beate writing sof the 1940s and 1950s or who were writing contemporaneously to the first work of the three men most definitely tied into the Beats--Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg. Women of the first generation thus include Jane Bowles and Helen Adam. A second generation grew up, the same age as the younger Beats (such as Ginsberg, Lew Welch, McClure, Corso). These women include Lenore Kandel (b. 1932), the late Elise Cowen (1933-1962) and Joanne Kyger (b. 1934). Finally there are two women Beat writers of a following generation--the age of Bon Dylan. These are Anne Waldman and Janine Pommy Vega. This last generation seems oddly underpopulated, as though Waldman and Pommy Vega were playing some kind of version of "I Am Legend."
Kristin Prevallet, Tim Hunt, Barrett Watten, Tony Trigilio and Linda Russo have written first class essays for this book. It has a very high proportion of interesting work in it. Wouldn't you know it, the San Francisco Public Library does not own a copy of this book. You will have to buy it yourself, from Amazon or elsewhere.
